I am in. A complete newbie to running. Going to follow c25k program. I always get shin splints everytime I try to run. How can I avoid it? Also i am flat footed. Will i need something supportive for the foot while running?
Welcome! In addition to the excellent advice of getting your shoes fitted, also try varying the surfaces you run on if you can. If you are always on sidewalks, run a little in the dirt next to it, and so one. Many people find the variation to be helpful.8 -
After only 88 miles running and 100 miles speed walking in Feb I need at least 150 miles running in March including 5 long runs. Still not over my manfluenza so it could be a slow start to the month and I am taking my SO away for her 50th to a beach holiday - not going to be easy, but then again it shouldn't be.

@polskagirl01 Awwwwwww that little girl is a warrior and she deserves a medal and so much more. That is so sad... I love your reasons for running. I love them! You're a smart lady, thank you!
@ContraryMary Thank you! Your girls are blessed to have such an inspirational and insightful mother!
@quilteryoyo & @Camaramandy648 Thank you, you are some sweet, sweet ladies!
@bearly63 Thank you, so so sweet... And, I am 100% sure our messages here are being read elsewhere. I had that happen to me twice lately. It is super creepy and intrusive but of course, it's to better "enhance" our experience or, truthfully, their bank accounts. Yes it's so so creepy. I logged on to Facebook twice after having conversations here to find immediately in my news feed advertisements or pop-up ads, whatever they are called, to what I had been discussing here.
@7lenny7 @PastorVincent @autumnblade75 @Camaramandy648 Thanks for your opinions. I'm a little surprised, happily though. 75% trail, 25% road preference. Well I signed up for a trail Marathon days ago, no idea what I'm getting myself into but I'm looking forward to it nonetheless. I bought nice trail running shoes.
@T1DCarnivoreRunner I'm interpreting your response as I don't care what it is as long as I'm running it because you just love to run. Correct me if I am wrong, please.
84.9/81 miles, goal hit for this month but I have been slacking almost two weeks now. Oh well, on track tomorrow with new goals for a new month.2 -
March goal: 1206

After slogging my way through the New Orleans marathon at the beginning of February, I’ve been working (mostly resting) my way back from overtraining (wherein among a multitude of other things, my RHR which is normally 55-60, peaked at 84. Now down to about 70. Yikes.).
I am scheduled to run the Canyonlands half on 3/14. We’ll see. I may try a little jog today to see how it feels.
I don’t currently have a mileage (or anything) goal nor do I think it’s prudent to set one, but among the OTS issues I’m battling is a loss of mojo/interest. I’m hoping that being part of an active running community will help my running love return.

You will likely find that running trails is HARDER than running street, but recovery is faster and easier from trail running. Trail running seems to be gentler on your body in general.

It is a public forum with ties to Facebook and Google advertising. So yes.

My feb goal i think was 140 - i stopped thinking about it because i was injured but i did manage 111.84!!!
March goal - who knows, lol. I’ll go for 120. I SHOULD run 140 to stay on track with RTY8 -
Hey all.
Slept well last night. Got up this morning, did 4k, then took the kids to a bike bump track. First time ever and we all had a blast. Now I'm exhausted, and still have work at 3pm. Oh well. Fun was more important!

Thank you! I know you also said to add 2-3 minutes on per mile (if I remember correctly).0 -

Slowly working my way up there. I don't think I'll ever make it to a full marathon (I work far too much to make time for the training, I don't know how you all do it) but I would like to be able to run a half marathon by next spring.
I have one week left in my most recent Runbet. I find them really helpful in keeping me accountable but am careful to choose games that are below my planned mileage/time commitment. The one I am currently doing is 30 minutes 4 times per week.

I’m running my first half marathon in 2 years at the end of March so my goal is just to keep up with my training schedule (a modified Hal Higdon novice 2), avoid injury, and finish strong at my race on the 28th 😀

Welcome! C25k is a great program. As others have mentioned, being fitted at a running store for shoes can be very helpful. Also, don’t worry about running fast. Keep your pace very slow. You can work on your pace later after you’ve been running consistently for a few months. Too much too soon is the easiest way to get injured. Some of us learned this lesson the hard way...

After exceeding my conservative February goal and looking at my training plan, I’m setting my March goals at 60 miles and avoid injury. I’m still nursing my hamstring a bit. So if I see any sign of a problem my goal is to listen to my body and back off.
The Spring series of my Wednesday night running clinic started this past Wednesday night and I specifically requested to stay in the slower group so that I won’t be tempted to push the pace before I’m ready. My coaches offered good advice and recommended I continue to strength train and cross train. It looks like we will have a good season and it’s a lot of fun to run as a group on Wednesdays since I train alone the rest of the week.9 -
@Avidkeo What's a bike bump track?0

Happy March everyone. My goal for this month is simply to follow the plan my coach has given me. I have another half on the 15th, which is also my birthday and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate. It’s only a ‘b’ race though (i.e. run well but not looking for a PB) as my ‘a’ race is in early April where I’m hoping for great things!
1 Mar: 15.96km (30mins warm up, 40mins pace, 20mins cool down)8 -
Well.... having met my non goal-goal for February ... I think I may join the other reappearing soul, of @scott6255 in shooting for the 50 mile club.
It may be a bit ambitious for where I am at.... but if I hit it, then it’s awesome, and if I don’t, I’m back to my usual of not meeting my goal.... so it will work either way.
Other periphery goals include working lifting back in, and continuing Romwod regularly. And, it is also already clear I need to work back in the prehab/rehab time for the wonky ankle, if I want to maintain/increase the running. Oh, and figuring out how to do more with my garmin then start, stop, and charge it.... would be a good goal to pursue also.11 -

Ive never heard of it so I looked at the website. Sounds nice and scenic. I have to warn you about the downhill races though. They will tear your quads up! I’ve run The Scream in Jonas Ridge NC a couple of times and both times my quads were so sore for the entire week afterward! (Hence the race name!).3 -

@LoveyChar my one road marathon I ran in 4:09. My one trail marathon I ran in 7:00
That's an extreme example as the paved was super flat and the trail was super tough, but there can be quite a bit of difference.6 -
0301-10.3k, total-10.3k goal-100k
A very damp run to start the month. It rained yesterday, and was still super misty when I set out. The fog on my glasses never really dissipated! But a good 10k regardless.PastorVincent wrote: »@7lenny7 @PastorVincent @autumnblade75 @Camaramandy648 Thanks for your opinions. I think you'll find that pace on trail fluctuates wildly based on terrain. I once spent a good 30 minutes on one very hilly 1km, as a reference...10 -
Trail vs road: I like both, but trail is probably more fun for me. When I hit the 42.2 km mark in my trail 50k, I realized I had DOUBLED my average road marathon time.3

Brand new here and looking for accountability and friendship to get me back on track. I will try for 40 in March. I have a long history of running but due to "Life" my last few years have been almost nothing. I am hoping to change that this year.
Thank you17 -

I’m working towards the flying pig half the first weekend of May, so the training plan is calling for 65 miles this month. It’s mainly a three day a week plan (which is why I chose it so I could build the base without putting too much strain), but there’s longer than I’m used to mid week runs that start ramping up this month. Overall, I like the plan so I’m excited to see how it all turns out.7
