@PastorVincent Wow, good for you! What progress! Boston, you're on your way!1

Wow, this is a busy group!
Did anyone watch the US marathon trials on Saturday? I was able to watch the whole thing -- some amazing racing. It looked like quite a difficult course.

My goal for the month is a very conservative 100km but mostly to finish my HM on the 22nd, which I'm (as usual) feeling overwhelmingly unprepared for although I am no less prepared than for my other 2. Silly brain.
I think the month always starts out with more people than it ends with Some of you can take that as a challenge to stick with this!
Your preparation doesn't look too bad to me. You've had some long runs over the past several weeks, and I'm guessing you're planning at least one more between now and then... you're doing active things and running regularly. You've done this distance before and know what to expect and what mistakes to avoid. You should be fine

Just focus on the bananas at the finish line!3 -
@janejellyroll I did not but my dad was telling me about it. He was impressed by the 43 year-old American (not native born, however, which really does not matter but pretty great that he'll represent America) man to qualify for the Olympics for the first time and the 25 year-old female to qualify. I was reading about her this morning how she really didn't realize what she was doing, how fast she was in comparison to others or that she was even that great and how she works two jobs, part time, and runs before and after work. She qualified for the Olympic trials at the Half Marathon in San Antonio in December.4

@LoveyChar Yes, that was Abdi Abdirahman - as a 40-year-old, it was awesome to see him run such a great race!3

For the past couple of months, I have been running the hilly harder route at home for my coach's training plan. Mostly because of the showers at the gym at work are typically crowded.
Well today I have a stupid 9 am to 5 pm meeting. Normally I work 6 am to 2 or 3 pm, and run after work. So with this stupid...err... highly valuable meeting meaning I would be working when I should be running, I decided to run before work. That meant running a route I have not run in several months, and
Seems I have gotten a little faster after all
Keep it up!!!1 -
Welcome to all the newbies! We are a crazy but fun and supportive group. Don't be shy, jump into the conversations and ask lots of questions!
@pastorvincent - I replied to you regarding the posting issue in the February thread. @katharmonic - also replied in the February thread but regarding the Topo's, they are 5mm instead of 0 drop like my other Topo's. I still love them!
@Camaramandy648 - like @Duck_Puddle , I love my oofos sandals. I typically only wear them after a race or long run when my feet are feeling really tired and sore. Otherwise I go barefoot and yes that is what my ortho and PT have recommended. It helps to strengthen all those little muscles in your feet and ankles.
@SassyBelle070707 - for your first HM I would just recommend going out and having fun, enjoy the camaraderie of all the other runners and the spectators cheering you on.
@Elise4270 and @juliet3455 - man I miss @LoneWolfRunner! I am pretty sure he had a different name the last time he joined us but I only remember this one. He had such great stories and was so funny!
@polskagirl01 - nice race and a great picture!
@enaliba - I worry about the Coronavirus too. My daughter is a pediatrician in Seattle and works frequently at SCH as well as in a clinic for underserved, mostly homeless youth. The hospital where the 1st death occurred is across the street from the pediatric office where she works. Scary but you just have to take the best precautions you can day to day. Our own @noblsheep knows all about it too, being stuck inside in China for weeks now.
No run for me to start out the month, yesterday was a scheduled rest day. I will be heading out shortly to get in an easy short run and get some numbers on my tracker. It is a beautiful 56F out but supposed to get hot and windy again as the week goes on (near 80 again tomorrow!).

3/1: 10 miles
3/2: 3 mile early morning run with this goofball:
16 -
March Goal: 90 Miles
3/1: 7.62 miles
3/2: 5.05 miles
12.67/90 miles completed for March
211.75/1000 miles for Run the Year Team Pavement Pounders
I ran 5 miles this morning. It was a really good run! The forecast is calling for rain possibly tomorrow morning and probably Wednesday morning, so I decided to run this morning since the weather was supposed to be nice. I am so glad I did! It was perfect running weather. It wasn't too hot or too cold. It wasn't too windy and it wasn't humid. I wore shorts and a tank top again today. I just love it when I don't have to worry about what I am going to wear. It was supposed to be an easy run and I felt like I took it easy. My pace was about 10:45/mi again. If I go by percieved effort then it was easy. But looking at my HR on garmin and strava is confusing. The zones are not the same and I don't know which one is right, or what they are supposed to be. Garmin says I spent 59% in zone 5 and 36% in zone 4 and strava says 52% in zone 3 and 46.5% in zone 2. I'm not really sure how they should be set up, or what I should be aiming for.
I usually try to get out the door between 5:45 and 6:00 on weekday mornings. The last time I checked there is a 10% - 20% chance of rain in the morning when I normally run and on Wednesday a 90% chance at the time I usually run. So I am hoping to be able to run in the morning and take my rest day on Wednesday. Then Thursday calls for a 30 minute tempo run. I'm still not 100% sure how to do a tempo run, but I'll give it my best shot.

Hello, all! Near-constant lurker, but inconsistent runner - March is the month that changes I am going for 20 miles this month (my runs are neither fast nor far but they are quite enjoyable... lol). Happy to be here with you rock stars!18

@mandabeth34 What an absolutely adorable running companion!4
-
Today I ran too fast for the distance. Also I learned a combination of clothing that chafes. I completed 10 miles.

@PastorVincent You're doing so well! Keep going!
@LoveyChar YASSS! I was watching it too and I was floored at Abdi's abilities as well as the 25 year old female. I am just in awe and so inspired.
@autumnblade75 Body Glide. Saves me every time.
Recovery sandals: I need to find something I can wear to work. Probably nothing will work - we can't wear flip flops. That's okay - this is really more about me buying into marketing schemes and I need to STOP
My son was SO SORE this morning, lol. He even asked if he could stay home from school! I described the hill I ran up and down on Saturday, and that I was also very, very sore, but I don't get the day off work. He sprinted for an entire mile though, with maybe one minute of rest between intervals. And I'll betcha he runs all the way home today, too. I really, REALLY enjoyed getting out with him and I hope the soreness doesn't cause him to quit.
He also has a little bench and a bar and some weights so I spotted him for some chest presses. My little mister - the next Rocky Balboa.13 -

2020 races:
5/16/20: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon
Garmin reports based on either the max heart rate you yourself entered, or your default heart rate based on 220 minus your age.
My Garmin thought I spent almost my whole runs in Zone 5 until I entered my Max heart rate from one of my 5k races last year. Now it seems a bit more realistic, with most of my time in zones 3 and 4.
If I were serious about heart rate training, I'd get a chest strap. But for now, the estimate off my watch is good enough for me.5 -
Lots and lots of chatter here..love it. Welcome to the new folks! It's a great place to be.
So remember the impromptu 5K I signed up for on Sunday and didn't think I would do great considering I had run 10 miles the day before and the 5K course is a natural trail hilly course?
Race started at 10. I got there at about 9:20 in time to get my timing chip, eat a banana and do some warm ups. I
It was chilly, and yes windy. But I thought at the least I'm here and will get points for the series.
So we all gathered at the start and off we went. This one race in particular had a number of kids, in fact there was a kids running group I think - they all had the same shirts so yeah lol.
The start to this course is a fast downhill which I always tell myself to take it slow because after that it's really nothing but rolling hills and one long almost 400M hill which we do twice (once at the finish).
But I didn't take it slow, I mean all these kids around me had me like oh man have to keep up!
They were having the time of their lives and at one point I almost bumped into one as he stopped so his friend could catch up to him.
Slowed down on the hills (I really need to do more hill repeats) and as fast as I could manage on the short downhill parts. The wind though! Almost better to walk it then fight it, but I carried on.
When I made the final turn to start the uphill to the finish, about half way I looked at my watch and I was at 28:20 - I was very surprised! At that point I really wanted to try and come in under 29 for a PR, and went as hard as I could at the end, but that hill did me in. I finished in 29:23 which was good for 1st in my AG! So so surprised!
13 out of 71 all females, so very pleased. And I moved up to 2nd in AG for the series standings.
One thing to note - of the two ladies I'm always chasing (who am I kidding, I won't catch them they are almost always 2-3 min faster than me) one did the 8K and one didn't race at all.
But either way I will take the win!
The first pic is me crossing after that long uphill finish. I tried to smile but that's what I got. LOL
I have now done 5K, 8K, 10K. Still have HM and 15K/10 Miler to complete my goal. Any additional races will be bonus!
Today much needed rest day.14 -

@Tramboman I'll have to look into that and see how they are set. Strava seems to have me mostly in zones 3 and 4 which are about the same as what garmin has for zones 4 and 5. I probably set one of them once but not the other.
@hamsterwheel6 Congrats on the AG win! I've always heard not to go out too fast in a race, but there is a 5K that I have done a few times and there is a pretty good hill about 2.5 miles in. I find if I go out fast then I do better than if I wait until later in the race to try to pick up the speed.0 -
@hamsterwheel6 Congratulations and nice pictures!!!0

I am behind in posting!
200 miles for March
3/1 14.13 miles, 671 days on the run
3/2 14.55 miles8 -
Saw the eye dr today for my yearly -
The doctor recommends contact lenses instead of my glasses and prescription sunglasses.
So I got new lenses for the frames I have and they're fitting me for contacts next week. It'll be an interesting experience. I don't like feeling like I have something in my eye...3 -

Once you get used to wearing the contacts you won't feel them in your eyes.2 -

I've always heard this, but I've never been able to get to this point (I am a giant baby).0 -

I've heard of it. I think I just won't wear the underwear that come up to *just under* that lower waistband seam inside those shorts. I have some that cover more of my butt. They show more "VPL" but I'm not vain enough to care. If I didn't notice until after mile 9, it's probably fine for most runs, anyway. Just something to avoid on race day.

@kgirlhart @LoveyChar Thank you!
I think it was a good thing I started fast too, lol. THE HILL starts at 1 mile and then because of the course, again at about 2.6 ish so basically till the finish. Not to mention the hills in between. So the fast 1st mile helped my overall time!3
