Morning all. What a difference a good night's rest makes! Feeling better, though my wrists hurt a bit still.
My sister and I are going to plan a gathering in June to celebrate a great number of milestones: 1 sibling retires, 1 sibling turns 60, my daughter graduates college, 1 niece graduates college, 1 niece graduates H.S.---if that isn't a reason to have a gathering nothing is! I am in charge of the cake and the invites, my DOS is in charge of finding a hall and a caterer, we both agreed it would be a joyful thing to put together.
Don't forget to spring forward for much of US tonight we set the clocks one hour forward, I am so grateful that Spring truly is around the corner.

Katla- hope you don’t have whiplash. Sometimes you don’t feel it awhile. Rest all you can.Doesnt sound like you can much tho. Hope your hubby gets better too.

Katla - So sorry for your crappy day, but it happens to the best of us. We ALL make mistakes. Very glad your DH is ok. Scary stuff. Do you know how it happened? We live and learn. Sort of.
Making green salmon curry. Bit of a riff. It tastes ok, I think.
Son texted me for Bea to come for a 1 to 1 tomorrow. 12 - 4 . She has been asking about it, so I'm very happy for her. Very fussy eater.

"Get to do"s and "chose well"sChose well: T’ai Chi, massage, bank, line dance.
Bonus: ROKJ practice x 1
Get to do: invest 10 mins cleaning Office, carry over 10 mins cleaning Master & Guest Bds, board meeting minutes, dog group, bake something for JoeFreddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, get Shingrix vaccine, follow up with Doug for iCloud for Win10. Reward: inventory seeds, plan garden, order replenishments.
Raining at last! Dare we hope to be able to burn some of the brush piles? Would be willing to sacrifice pack walk for that, especially since today they meet down my the “treatment plant”
Heather your bacon/sausage/cabbage does sound Yummo… hmm, have a cabbage and some ham… can I be inspired? 2 lbs in 2 weeks, leaving a bit more margin in CI/CO, yes. It’s having a productive effect here, but its early days so won’t post the results until they stick awhile “ate it with a spoon” nope have to have veggies or flat bread with mine. Now if you were talking lemon curd…
Viv self-service drive-in COVID19 test? SMH. Happy for you, for our broken healthcare system.
SuziQ when I worked in IT, re-keying was against my religion. It’s a constant battle with corporations to integrate/simplify/consolidate systems and streamline processes. Corporate thought they could use “the software right out of the box…and did not listen…” boy does that sound familiar. Reminds me of why I retired. Best o’ luck to you and your teams. your retirement travel plans. Can you do one a year until you retire? Thanks for the brown sugar recipe, will do when current stock is depleted. Organic dark brown sugar is so hard to find, and spendy when you do. Chatting with a friend yesterday about the news, and both said “Walter Cronkite” at the same time. Journalism used to be a noble profession, at least to some.
Kylia Hope you got DH out for that park walk!
Pip now that is a happy 453!
Karen in VA what a blessing that noise cancelling kennel could be for the shelters. Could save many terrified dogs’ lives.
Welcome back Kath in UK!
Margaret Love the ‘…scrub until there’s bubbles’ song, is the tune the Left, left, left right left military marching tune? Never thought of that downside to air driers, will put some paper towels in my pocket for those situations. Found the preparedness mama’s website with recipe for home made wipes, will try those too, and love her alternatives to paper towels for all but the wipes… gonna see if we can change our evil ways, even a little.
Amber thanks so much for the home made hand sanitizer link! Already have ingredients in stock. your hubby’s response to cabin fever. Give him a pat on the back from me!
Luci B I’ve heard that a little protein snack can tame those insane “everything I can’t have” craving. A half ounce of raw almonds before I go into Freddie’s keeps me from obsessing about those sweets… usually
Allie you’re right, that SHOULD tell the DDS something. Hope he’s able to change his ways with any new staff.
Michele “…stay an extra week next year” Great response! Fingers Xd for “even sooner”
Katla ((hugs)) what a rotten day! Glad its behind you. Hope something fun happens today to counteract.
Machka not depressing, a welcome reminder that COVD19 is about as close to being on the list as Pluto is to the earth.
Okie I wanted to see those Mickey ears on you!
Marianne what about sour cream and green onions onto your corn chowder? Hope your DIL’s hospital issue was easily fixed.
Samand your coffee cup jerked a laugh out from me!
Rita my jealousy of your lettuce and parsley just MIGHT get me out organizing seed starting stuff.
@GodMomKim r u ok?
DST know I’ve said it before, but I dislike the change intensely, takes me so long to adjust. Oregon has decided to “stick” with DST and not change back next fall, IF California and Washington do too, AND IF US congress allows it. I’d have preferred Standard Time (more light earlier in the morning) but will be thankful for the end of the semi annual adjustment.
This has been a lovely, leisurely breakfast time. Thankful for all you dear ladies and your tips, tricks and humor. Would miss you all if our internet went down for any significant time. Time to be up and about. Will we burn? Or pack walk? Changes from moment to moment.

Would love to hear the salmon curry recipe, a friend was telling me about it today, then I come on here and the talk is of salmon, must check the freezer I’m sure I have some.

Barbara - Don't forget the sauerkraut!
One of the reasons I moved out of the bedroom and into the spare room was not only feeling awake, but also the 'wind'.
Wouldn't want to be in the same room as me. I'm sure all that gut bacteria is good for me.
The green fish curry was pronounced 'absolutely delicious ' by DH. He can tolerate some heat, but not a lot. Pleased I judged it just right. I took a lot of trouble over it, but it was fabulous! I actually cooked it in the IP, but not under pressure. Salmon at the very last minute.

DST ~ What I dislike most about it is having to change the clock in my car. I can never remember how to do it and have to hunt for the manual.

I am so glad to find you folks. I live alone, and have put on forty pounds in the last 5 years... I can be active, and I can be disciplined, up until 8 at night - LOL! So glad to start fresh, and find you folks to make this journey with me SO my goals are...
Steps - 12,500 5 days of the week
Track every morsel every day...
Stay in the caloric green 4 days a week?
Rowing; Increase from 10-20 minutes 4 days a week
Drink 1.5 L per day (and log that too)
My real goal is not to binge after 8... that's the tough one for me, but I'll try...
I found I was really finding it difficult and lonely doing this on my own, so looking forward to this community to help me grow in a positive way metaphorically and in a negative way literally!6 -
Time Change- I got where I leave the car 🚘 click just remember it’s an hour ahead or behind. Hubby doesn’t know how to do it either.
Cellphone 📱 newer kind change in their own old kind turn off then back on to reset it.
The darn Thermostat!!! That’s my hardest clock besides the car. Stoves easy.
I still not sure why we don’t just meet in the middle stop having time changes. Even most farmers find it aggravating.

Barbara yes I believe it is the left, left right chant.
Here they are recommending starting if you are over 60 to reduce your exposure to big groups. We are singing a song I love at church tomorrow. I will go to sing that and then I think I will take a break from church. The church I attend has at least 200 who attend. I will wait until it clears out and not socialize after church and leave right away.
I will also go to paint tomorrow and then that will be it for that for a while, too. The painting class is at the Y and it is heavily used especially on Mondays. We do paint in a separate space and group is smaller. Still I think best to paint at home for now.
I also plan to shop at off times and carry my wipes.
I am being extra cautious not so much so me because I have no underlying health conditions but husband is on chemo and over 70, so it is more for him. I still not sure if he will heed these recommendations. When he first got sick he so short of breath he couldn't even walk across a room. So yes this virus scares me for him. He is not doing much better and even runs everyday.
This may change. I will have to see how things progress this week here.

Carol in GA: It has been a very long time since I heard from Sharon aka Trucker. I remember some talk about visiting her daughter. I wonder whether she is still there.
Kymarai: Thanks for messaging Trucker AKA Sharon.
Pip: My last experience with the colonoscopy procedure was awful. The facility I was sent was too far from here and getting there after taking the prep at home was a nightmare. DH had one a few months ago. We stayed in a hotel near the hospital where the procedure took place. The prep he used was as awful as I remember but getting to the facility was not difficult. I am not willing to go for the full-scale procedure until we know this virus is no longer a problem. I don’t want to be in a place where virus patients could be nearby. :noway:
Heather: DH had an insulin reaction in the night. I called the paramedics and they were able to stabilize him. He’s okay today. :flowerforyou:
Barbara: I also prefer year around daylight time. Moving clocks forward and back is an annoying chore. :ohwell:
Excitement abounded in my life yesterday, starting with the fender-bender at Safeway—I went from there directly to my insurance provider. The car will be fixed as soon as the repair place can get it in. It is drivable. Then DH had an insulin reaction in the night & I called the paramedics. They gave him intravenous sucrose and it solved the crisis. I am so grateful for our paramedics!
I’d prefer to have less excitement.

Let’s see, went to WalMart then Aldi. First made the crust for that girl’s birthday "cake". Then made chicken breasts in the IP (very tender, just need to brown them next time), soup in the IP, finished making the “cake” to take her, now making yogurt.
The Wii told me that since I left for FL, I lost 4 pounds. Watch how fast they come back. Our neighbor brought over papers she had for us.
For some reason, couldn’t sleep last night.
Katla – how scary!!! Good thing you were there
Anyone – do you know of a simple (meaning easy) casserole that I can make for these Newcomers? She’s going thru chemo for lung cancer. They are diabetic, not crazy about meat but love veges except for sweet potatoes. I was thinking of an egg casserole. This way they can have it for breakfast or for dinner. I have a cookbook called “I can’t believe it has no sugar”. The sweetener is mostly fruit juice. Is something like this good for a diabetic?
It’s funny in a way, Newcomers asked me to head this committee called “Members Helping Members”, I told them that I didn’t go to enough activities where people would be comfortable coming to me and that I thought Adra would be a good person since so many people in Newcomers know her. Well, they found someone else. Evidently, Adra sent out a notice to all the newcomers telling them about this diagnosis and with an address to send the card. Really, this should have been sent out by the person heading MHM. Well, lo and behold, that person is no longer doing it. I wouldn’t blame them. I know Adra is a great person who will go out of her way for anyone, but I also know that she’s somewhat of a control person. I wouldn’t want her doing my job. BTDT, I had that experience and didn’t like it one bit so she can have it. I suspect this might have happened with that other person, too.
Welcome everyone new
Michele who is off to church

Michele I think your idea of an egg-based casserole is perfect! Spinach, zucchini, broccoli, bell pepper, cheese, etc would all be fantastic. Here is one recipe I found you might like:

Not feeling the best this morning. I have a nasty headache. After the fender bender at the grocery store I had a serving of DH’s whisky after being alcohol free for months. Bad plan. Then I had to call the paramedics for him due to an extreme blood sugar low. They gave him intravenous sugar that brought his blood sugar up to normal levels. That was scary and stressful! Now I have a crabby tummy and headache. :ohwell: The good news is DH is doing fine this morning. As for me, I'm feeling a bit foolish this morning. I shouldn't violate my own best rules.

making comments by memory, (and we know how faulty that can be!), but here goes:
Katla, glad to hear hubby is feeling better today, sorry to hear you had such a day yesterday tho!
Korlandi1, welcome to a chatty, supportive group! Please make sure to sign a name and general location so that we can keep organized! The name can be your actual name, or nickname or..... and same with location, as general or specific as you are comfortable with. Please know that no one expects you to reply to every post, just jump in and comment when you feel like it!
Tracey, oh my heart! Your granddaughter and her "hooncorns"! Adorable!
Speaking of my heart, Rebecca, haven't seen photos of Athena yet this week! lol
Marianne, I always put chicken soup base in any cream soup that I make, it gives the salt and some extra flavours as well.
Allie, keeping my fingers crossed for you for a new job! I too hope that he figures out that the problem is him, but I wouldn't bet on that happening.
Michele, glad you made it back okay and that you were able to get someone to deal with the left behind fridge stuff. That would have been really yucky by next year!
Machka and Viv, Happy Birthday!
Coronavirus, while there are some confirmed cases in Canada, I don't think that every province has been hit, not yet anyway. I also feel that we do need to keep it in perspective and that more deaths are caused by "regular" flu every year. I always have enough stuff, foodwise, to last a few weeks. We would get low on milk, but I figure if I could get someone to go buy it and just leave it on our doorstep to collect it would be fine. And if this flu is anything like any other flu I've ever had, I didn't feel much like eating anyway, and for water all I need to do is turn on the tap. We don't spend a lot of time with large amounts of people either, so that should minimize our exposure. And as hubby pointed out last night, as I was reading the blurb in the paper talking about steps to take and whose most vulnerable, we are both in pretty good health. We both had the flu last year and only felt really crappy for a few days, and there was no question of "should we go out and do this?", we both were pretty firmly entrenched in the house. Not a happy few days, and nothing that I'm eager to repeat, but we did survive just fine.
That's all I can remember. Hugs to those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

So I woke up, with the plan to get my hair trimmed. Just put it up wet, and then husband dropped me off on his way to the book store. It was Super Cuts, and they do walk-ins, but not today apparently. I go in and she asked if I had called. "No", I reply. So she tells me they are really backed up. It was 10 ish and she wouldn't have any openings until 4:30 pm. Well I have husband's phone and he's on his way already to book store. So I walked home. I figured I would get there the same time as husband. Didn't call the house because #1 son was still sleeping, (he had to start at 3am for on base gate guard duty on Friday morning, still trying to catch up on his sleep) and #2 I knew husband wouldn't be there. I did stroll thru Walmart, hoping to find some photo boxes but no such luck. There was even a Bloodsource bus in the parking lot. If I wasn't fasting, I would've donated. My tank was empty😁! Its uphill all the way home, but I walked slow and steady. Only about 45 minutes of walking, but I was in the 20th hour of my fast. Came home and downed water! Put a salmon fillet in the oven. Gordons brand has some quick and easy ones called Simply Bake, with butter and garlic. They were $3.50 at the commissary, but they aren't as good as my $9 Safeway ones. The Safeway ones looked more like salmon with the skin on one side. The brand is C.Worthy salmon fillets. I had two Wasa crackers, avocado cup, diced tomatoes and 2 slices of havarti cheese on my plate. Then some fresh spinach to eat as well. This meal is kind of like playing with my food. Put some tomatoes in a spinach leaf and swab some avocado on it. Or I was wrapping a salmon bite in spinach. I had two strawberries too.
Its now 1:21 and I just finished. I know if I don't eat slowly I get quite the grumbling belly. So its working out. I love how my body feels in the morning. Lean!

I turned 76 yesterday and have been gradually gaining weight over the years. If I don't get ahold of it, I won't be able to fit into my Summer clothes and my Spring ones are pretty tight! I've heard about this site and thought I'd give it a try. Support from some other people age 70+ who have actually lost weight with this would be very helpful. I'm not sure it's possible but I know I need to believe I can do it.10

We have about 5 or 6 hairdressers within 150 yards of our house. What is it about hairdressers? They breed like rabbits! Also, with the huge gay population in Brighton, loads and loads of barbers, doing fancy styles. DH goes to one around the corner that is fairly traditional and doesn't charge a lot for his buzz cut, eyebrow and ear hair trim.

Margaret on Church- Dads older man of course my Aunt y Uncle in their 70’s y 80’s their still going to go to church ⛪️.Their not going to avoid crowds either at church. Think if it’s a real worry to you hands up say oh not shaking hands until the virus is gone. Most understand. As a Preachers Daughter could come in late leave early never disrupts anything even if folks glance they quickly forget go back to listening or drawing or googling their cell phone or unwrapping the noisy candy/cough drop wrapper .

Michelle,
I have been making Bisquick crustless casseroles for gatherings (remember them from the late 80s). I sometimes make in muffin tins for individual servings. They can be made with or without meat and for every type of meal.
The recipe only calls for 1/2 cup of Bisquick which is not too bad for diabetics and depending upon the vegetables used (more fiber) the net carbs per serving isn't too bad. When served with a salad it makes for a complete meal.

Michele You'd have to do the calculations with pineapple juice vs sugar. I'm guessing it won't make much difference, but angel food cake in general is not the worst dessert for diabetics, and most people will have a handle on what they are eating anyway.3

Just think, if everyone spent more time outside, how much healthier (or at the very least) less sick everyone would be!
This is just what I have been doing. The weather this week has been much milder and we have had lots of sunshine. Our clocks go forward in a couple of weeks time. But in the meantime I'm enjoying the extra daylight hours.
Also, I have been working on a better sleep routine to improve health, and making sure I get exercise and good nutrition routines in place.
All of which means I have less time to be on line, but I have been skim reading.
Tomorrow our family are celebrating my DYDs 50th birthday, so I won't have much time tomorrow. I will be back on next week as I am less busy than the last week.
Felicitations to all.
