Kylia - I'm with you. I find I do better if I'm not starving.
Machka - DH has a low BP anyway and round about once a year he forgets to drink enough and has this fainting thing in the night. When old men wee it sometimes causes a sudden drop in bp. It's only ever at night. Usually after a hot day. It's quite common in old men. The danger is from how he falls and if he hits anything. He seems totally fine now. It's called Post-Micturition Syncope.
It obviously knocks his confidence a bit.
Waiting for the results of the COBRA meeting today. It might affect what Saga do.

Eating in restaurants.....
If planning on eating out I usually search the menu online before I go and make a game plan. If I really want to enjoy I eat very light during the day. Anytime I eat out or have unplanned meals I take a picture of the plate before and after I eat. When taking the picture I make sure my hand is in it as a guide.
Speaking of our hand it is a good measuring tool when we are out. A fist is a cup, first digit of thumb is a tablespoon or an ounce of cheese, your palm is a serving of meat (3-4 ounces). I'm sure there is something online.Eating out- I try to check menus before going. When I don't, things surprise me! I find that if I eat my afternoon snack a little later, it helps me make better choices. Kind of like not going to grocery hungry. Water helps beforehand too. I don't generally drink much while eating.

On eating in restaurants ...
Like you two, I check the menus before I go.
If there are calories on the menu, great! I make my selection based on how many calories I have available.
If there are no calories on the menu, I look up my preferred choices on recipe sites to see approximately how many calories they might have. Then I'll choose something at the high end of the calorie choices I find.
I'll also do things like:
- starting with a garden salad without dressing
- not drinking my calories ... water, diet drinks, black coffee
- eating a bit lighter during the day
- getting some additional exercise ... in addition to whatever our usual exercise is, we'll often park a distance away from the restaurant and walk, or if we're travelling, we'll walk from where we're staying.

Good morning ladies!
Kylia - I have been stuck in the waiting mode too... thinking "he'll be ready to go in a couple more minutes" which start to stretch out. As long as I had something to entertain myself with, like you did, it wasn't a big deal. Being cold was another thing. Or having to use the restroom! Kinda the same thing sometimes, lol.
Machka - Happy Birthday!
Barbara AHMOD - it was me who posted the link to the gut microbiome interview. I went ahead and sprang for her on-line course, haven't had a chance to listen to her videos but this ancestral eating really got my attention. And resistant starch of course. Our microwave bit the dust (a week after the warranty expired! ) so I've been eating cold oatmeal and cold pizza, lol. So maybe it was meant to be. We need to get the electrician out before we get another microwave - DH has the one we brought from the farm 12 years ago in his shop if I get desperate. It's too heavy to lug into the house and will probably outlast any new one we get from here on out.
Older dog Sophie has a tummy upset - she had loose bowels yesterday afternoon and evening - outside thank goodness, so dosed her up with dog kaopectate. I got up early and she met me -- having to go outside again. So when she came in, I gave her a double dose of kao. And made up some white rice - she had a bit of that with a little boiled chicken for breakfast. I do have pumpkin but was too lazy to go out to the storage shelves in the garage to fetch it this morning. Nothing wrong with her appetite. Hopefully she'll be calmed down by this evening.
Speaking of dogs, time to get the little one up.
Have a good week, ladies!

Ginny in OH: Happy 1st Anniversary!!!
KJ: I love the pie chart. I use it to see whether I’m in a reasonable nutritional balance. I always try to have as close to equal thirds as possible. I feel best that way.
Heather: I am so sorry that your DH had a fainting spell in the night. It must have been stressful for you both. I hope that today is a better day. I looked it up on Web Med and learned a little bit. Evidently it is something that can affect men. They had some bullet points-*avoid excessive alcohol, *don’t get out of bed suddenly, *sit on the edge & then move your legs, *urinate sitting down, and *check with your doctor whether any of your medications could be causing the problem. I hope some of this is useful for you and DH. You may have already heard it.
Machka: Happy Birthday! :flowerforyou:
Lisa: Your DH appears to be an excellent grandpa!
SuziQ & Machka: Some of our local restaurants have calories posted on their menus. McDonalds is on that list, as is Subway. DH can’t eat gluten and that has shortened our list of places to go. Our local Thai Restaurant is excellent and an easy place to get gluten free food. We order rice noodles. This is not an issue for me but is a big issue for DH. I don’t recall seeing calories posted. :noway:
Lanette: Our dog has the occasional dietary upset and we also use white rice. We infuse it with chicken bouillon and add real chicken as his system improves. It has been quite a long time since he has had an upset tummy. These days he needs a seeing eye person. He has cataracts and doesn’t see as well as he did before. :flowerforyou:
.
Stay healthy out there. The world is having a big health challenge these days.

Machka- Happy birthday! Sounds like a great weekend. As for waiting in the truck, normally I have something to entertain myself. If it hadn't been cold and in heels I would have walked. The men in my life talk too much! A lot of them have cigars as well which I prefer to avoid. At least the radio was playing great songs!😉

Kylia C'mon, girl! If the circumstances were reversed, you would never have said "thank you" and without a backwards glance headed back into your house without either inviting your friend in or checking with her to be sure she preferred to wait outside for her husband. It's odd and not sociable, and an indication that something is out of order. Maybe hoarding or a stinky cat box or something. Whatever it is, it must have caused her anxiety if she thought you might invite yourself in. Maybe she'll confide in you at some point.
Lisa I adore that picture of your husband and grandchildren. It melts my heart.

My grandson had writing SOLs Thur/Fri last week. He was the first one out both days, always a worrisome sign. He said it was easy and he thought he did really well. All he has to do is pass to be able to advance to 9th grade in the fall. It is likely that he passed.

Lisa - AAAAAHHHHH!
No hand sanitizer left anywhere, but I did find one of the last boxes of paracetamol. I have a recipe for making the sanitizer, so I asked the pharmacy if they had any gel for mixing into it. No. None. That pharmacy is the worst one ever . Eventually found the gel at the healthy shop. Also bought lavender oil so it smells good. I already have a big bottle of rubbing alcohol for when I fiddle with my blackheads.
Kept my gloves on all round and washed my hands when I got home.
Katla - I have instructed DH in all those measures. I hope he will take care as I will probably be away in London on Thursday night. That trip is what I need the sanitizer for.

My best friend is a hospital respiratory therapist. She treated a guy who then tested positive for Covid 19. So we are all worried for her now.
Still have not heard from my DD about graduation. I suppose the whole event might get cancelled.
And I am worried about my trip to Tucson the end of March. Not sure whether it is safe to fly, or would I be bringing it home to my elderly parents? Too much fear and guessing.
Heather my dad fainted in the bathroom in the night once. They said it was a known side effect to one of his medicines. His med was changed and it never happened again. Hope for a remedy for your DH.

Happy International Women’s Day!!!!
Also, I read an article over the weekend about the Kirkland outbreak, and someone at/near the facility said that some residents went from mild symptoms to acute in an hour. Granted, they have compromised health conditions to start with, but still.
One of my husband's co-workers lives in the Seattle area and has been diagnosed. She wrote up her story, and it is truly an example of mismanaged health care.
Oh, and we have a case in our county now. Still no official word on where in the county exactly, so speculation is rampant. Our governor declared a state of emergency -- I know that's mostly a formality, but still.
Someone who called this in info-demic was correct. I don't understand the lack of information. I understand protecting personal health information, but I don't understand not telling us where in the county the infected person is -- I presume, now in hospital, since it is difficult to be tested in the US unless you are already acute.

Hubby and I were/are scheduled to go to Israel at the end of the month for his work. Watching that situation carefully. The medical people in Israel have suggested limiting/banning visitors from the US, but Netanyahu, according to the Israeli news article I was reading, wouldn't let them because he didn't want to tick off Trump. At the very least, another source I read said Israel wanted visitors to assure them that they have not been in crowds of over 100 people within 14 days of visiting. So beginning Wednesday, I will stay out of crowds, just in case we end up going, and so I can honestly respond that I have been careful.
Gracious. What a mess.
Much love to all.
Stay healthy, and wash those hands!
