So I'm going to start training, and see what happens. Have till June to actually decide.
Am I going to run an accidental marathon?
Sounds very wise. And remember, if you decide that’s you’re not ready to run a full, there’s no shame in running a half instead - better than getting an injury too.
Don’t you have unfinished business with the Wellington Half?4 -
@mbaker566 I'm so sorry to hear all your news as well. Take your time and take care of yourself.
Thanks all for the comments. I can't find who posted about wishing there were places to work out in airports, but I had actually looked into it before I left and there apparently is a gym at the Hilton at O'Hare that you can pay for a day pass. It sounded pretty nice too. But I don't think I would have had the time to get over there and take advantage. Something to keep in mind though!

64 degrees and still light outside for most of group tonight! It's spring! At least for today. The workout tonight was a 20-minute tempo run. We did 10 minutes of warmup, 20 minute tempo, 4 sprints and then 10 minutes cooldown. Not a bad night but it took me until a ways into the tempo run to feel warmed up. Such a treat to run in short sleeves and capri pants though.
And even after it got dark, there was a beautiful huge full moon, which I just learned is the Full Worm Moon, because this time of year the ground thaws and worms come out, and the birds come back to feed on them.7 -

Yep! Wellington was my first ever half I did back in 2011, that was hell. I would have quit at 15k except my ride home was at the finish line haha. I was completely unprepared. It was wet, cold and windy. It took me 3hrs 7 mins... So I would like to do it again and slay that demon haha. But slaying it with a marathon would be amazing. I've always said I wouldnt do one because of the time commitment, but looking at that novice plan, the time isn't THAT bad. My kids are older and I feel less guilty being away from them, and my husband is more supportive as well. The hardest one would be that 30k run a few weeks before hand, but I'm also happy to go out at 7am to start the run, or earlier. It's just the idea of running for 4.5hrs...4 -
Today was a not so awesome run. I nearly gave up on it... repeatedly.... both contemplating just a walk, and considering total abort mission. However... boyfriend and I discussed and confirmed two different adventure plans plans that involve my fluffy butt needing to be in a swimsuit..... and somehow that convinced me to restart the run interval, even if it was at a slower speed. I think I got a total of 16ish minutes of the 20 run minutes I was slotted for....we will try that one again a different day, before I up the run interval length....
2 miles today = 9.3/509 -
@PastorVincent and everyone talking about all the salt!
I am today years old when I learned that my face is gritty and my legs had white “sand,” (so i thought) all over them yesterday
Bahahahaha3 -
3.1 miles tonight. Leg is feeling strong. I took a couple 30 second walk breaks for sheer laziness a couple miles in. I didn’t really need to walk. I just felt like walking for a short bit. So I did.7
-
Well, I went out and did 2.35 miles. So far I have 4.20 for March. It's a start!12

0310-10.3k, total-28.6k goal-100k
Was thinking about an 8km run this morning, but had some stuff on my mind that were 10km problems. Hence.
Spring is certainly in the air - the peach blossoms are starting to bloom and the willows are turning very slightly green. It would've been too warm for my winter running clothes if it hadn't been so darn windy today. Still, I ended up taking off hat and gloves in the second half of the run.
I think the virus situation is basically under control. 0 new cases outside Hubei for 3 days in a row (besides people who were infected in other countries). Now for things to go slowly back to normal. I'm starting to get worried about you guys in the US and Europe instead.
Have given up on reading the thread. Sorry. Hugs and likes all around since this thread is so awesome.18 -
@noblsheep hey! Glad to hear you're ok and things are getting under control. Yeah, it's starting to get worrying round here... Italy just went into lockdown, and Spain is starting to close schools in some areas. Pffft.
@Avidkeo sorry, not sorry :-p I won't be joining you this year though, my legs aren't up to that much mileage yet. I DID say 2028 LOL!

Bahaha lol yeah you did. Your comment came at the same time that I ran 14k for fun and realised that I'd quite happily go further. And 14k is just over 1/3 of the way through a full.... I honestly think I'll be sensible and just do the half, but it's fun to toy with the idea of a full and no reason I can't work towards it and drop to a half so makes sense4 -
Great that you are getting back in the swing of it @emmamcgarity
Well done on sticking to it @hanlonsk and running the last sessions
You really do inspire me @quilteryoyo
I am pretty sure even though I am starting something called a 'marathon' it will still be an accidental marathon if I get there @Avidkeo and that is certainly what happen for my HM. I couldn't find a 15k race so entered a half that looped and I could stop at 15k near the finish - just ended up going "Why not?" and finishing.
Stay healthy @Camaramandy648 and I hope your son has a speedy recovery.
Having just come back from 2 weeks of pretty much sitting in bed it is amazing how quickly I lost any sort of form and energy. I just can't run a long run at the moment. I guess it is because I came from no exercise to get to15-16 miles and there was no longevity in building up muscles. I am going to try a couple of 8 milers during the week and try again for a long run on Saturday. To be honest I might not be totally over the bug as I had mild night sweats after my latest attempt at running but I need to get back or I will never be ready for April.6 -

Great news from @noblsheep though! Hopefully the rest of the world will quickly follow suit, and everyone can get back to normal.7 -

I was thinking the same thing about the Marathon in May. USA is still on the early side of the infection curve. By May we might be in the height of it.2 -

@polskagirl01 have your race organisers announced anything one way or the other? I'm obsessively checking the website and facebook for mine. If they cancel either of them, you and I can still race each other from a distance so we've done our training for SOMETHING. You can beat me with your eyes closed mind lol4 -
@noblsheep Glad things are slowly getting back to normal. I hope the rest of the world can avoid having as big of a crisis, even though that isn't looking promising.
Sorry that it looks like your HM will be canceled @polskagirl01 . That stinks. Maybe you can do a virtual one instead.
@TheMrWobbly II never thought that I would ever inspire anyone with my running "ability." That made my day. Thanks.3 -

Race organizers haven't said anything, I'm just going by the government press conference that happened a couple hours ago. We'll have to see how it works out in the details and who knows, *maybe* this event is small enough to not count.
But if it's really canceled, I'll definitely be timing my run to coincide with yours.5 -

Rainy and 52 degrees F today. A good day for a rest day, 'cause I'm not @Avidkeo and do not enjoy running in the rain. I've participated in way too many activities where the inclement weather plan was, "We get wet."
Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs
Run at least 4 5k races
Get a 5k PR
Average at least 138k per month, to meet my Run the Year pledge of 1,020 miles
Stretch goal: If I can average 169k per month, I can run 2020K in 2020
Run the Year Team: Pavement Pounders
2020 races:
4-25 Shine the Light 5k, Twinsburg, OH
5-23 Race for the Parks 5k, Hudson OH
6-20 Freedom Run 5k, Aurora, OH7 -
@Tramboman you would fit in great here... everyone in southern Spain truly believes they will melt if they get rained on! When we went to Galicia (opposite end of the country, where the weather is a lot wetter) last Easter, my husband was amazed to see people working in the rain (you know, construction workers, road works, street cleaners... anyone working outdoors) and he asked the taxi driver how come they were working. Guy replied "well we'd never get anything done otherwise, would we!" His face was a picture.7

That is pretty much how it is here in Pittsburgh, PA, USA too.4 -

Ugh, we're now in a similar place... Spanish athletics federation just announced that the government has warned them they're putting a series of measures into place which are going to affect all sporting events.
So far 4 regions have decided to close schools for a fortnight as of tomorrow.
This is going to sound self-centred as hell, but I have a race on the 22nd and a holiday at Easter and both are looked pretty *kitten* right now.
