WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR MARCH 2020

First of all, this introvert is tickled that my girlfriends (both also over 60) decided we need to skip lunch today because of the possibility of picking up a bug. YES!! I can get my shopping done and be home at a decent time.
Update on doggie - doo. Some rant here....So yesterday Sophie continued the loose bowel stuff even with the doggie kao. I finally got the idea to take a fecal sample to the vet to have them check her for worms. I called the clinic, they said yes. Then they called back in a couple minutes saying they don't do that anymore, I'd have to bring her in. $50 to walk in the door. So I kind of griped and said nope, I'll worm her here and if that doesn't work will bring her in for further tests.Lisa - thanks for the appendix link. Our bodies are amazing, our own fecal transplant material. And surgeons so willing to yank out healthy ones if they are in the general area for another reason. Levi is a doll, loved the photo with the kids and Corey.
So I emailed the groomer who is up on everything - she said head to the Farm Store and get Nemex 2. It's cheap and it works on all but tapeworm. Will do that today and see if that helps my old gal. I found a can of pumpkin in the pantry so I've been making her nice meals of rice, pumpkin, a bit of kibble and some chicken breast which she gobbles right up. She was in a hurry to go outside this morning when I got up - I didn't follow her out to see how things looked. Grateful she was able to wait.
Ancestral eating.... I delved into it a little more yesterday, and it has to do with eating the foods our ancestors ate which were available to support the gut microbiome.
An African tribe was studied who still eats very close to the land and consumes 100 gm of fiber per day and has a very diverse micobiome and the folks are generally healthy. People in the more "advanced" countries like the USA don't eat very much fiber and microbiome is starving, literally. And our immune system and health suffers. Eat that fiber!! Resistant starch! Keep your microbes healthy, lol.
Corona virus - going to get a 12 pack of Corona at Walmart today for emergency purposes only. That and 3 months of TP on hand should keep us out of the woods.
OK ladies, make it a good day.

Michelle love Jiminy Cricket.
I do admit I am changing some habits right now because of DH. His vulnerablity makes it even more important that I take extra precautions. This is a wake up call for me in that I should make these changes to help prevent other illnesses like flu and colds from becoming a problem for him, too.
I did appreciate Amber alerting us early to this problem with her videos out of China. It did help me make some good decisions for our family.
I have always been one that does better when I have time to prepare rather than have surprises sprung on me.
Again I feel fortunate that I am healthy and have only had one minor cold this year.
With that said I do need to remind myelf that the media is out to sell a story, and unfortuantely I do think they play on bad news because it sells the story.
For me it a balance in knowing what is happening so I can take the actions I need to take that protect myself and others, but not over reacting so it causes me stress and worry.

Katla: Love the rice crackers for breading the chicken. I intend to try this soon.
Lanette: Yes, a gift shop was a dream. The retail market has changed so much that I needed to give that further consideration. Now people just go to their favorite online retailer and point and click or just give gift cards. Do you remember how wonderful it was to receive a card in the mail? Now everything is online! So once I get closer to retiring I'll take another look.
Heather: Sending hugs to you and DH. I love frittatas! Now it looks like I have an iodine allergy which is reacting to iondized salt, eggs, dairy in general, fish, ......
CANCELING TRIPS!: We were supposed to spend next week in Virginia Beach to celebrate DH’s birthday. We canceled last night because of the coronavirus report with the number affected in Virginia rising overnight. Virginia Beach is a tourist destination anchored by a military base. So we are just staying in town, going out to dinner and piddle around Richmond. We don’t know if that is any safer, but we are going to do the best we can. DH doesn't even want to invite friends to dinner at the restaurant. Major bummer – I had looked forward to a week vacation for the last 2 months!
Amber: JR looks like he is ready to tear up that cookie!
Katla: We had an accident in a shopping center two weeks ago. One of those F150 Monster Trucks tore the rear end of our car off. In our county the police do not issue faults for accidents in the shopping center. Whew is all I can say. DH is having a fit. The car had to be towed. He won’t get it back for another two weeks. He has a 2020 Charger as a rental. He hates it because it is not his beloved Cadillac. He has given the insurance company an earfull!
Machka: I am with you with the 8 hours of recreation! I’m on the 6 rest/17 work. I am trying to do better though. Happy Birthday!
Rebecca: Congratulations on the weight loss overall!

Tere and Katla ~ So sorry to hear about the car accidents and hope the insurance companies pay all in your favor. Tere, Did the truck stop after the damage?
Michele ~ Good luck with the crown! My dentist had the ability to replace my old crown the same day as her office had the needed equipment. I was glad it didn't have to be sent to the lab. I must say though, that I was in some pain for the next 1 1/1 wks but some of that was sinus problems.
Lanette ~ Hurting for Sophie! Our pups are our hearts.
Kylia ~ No advice about MnL! I think many people are so set in their ways that there is no changing them even though you encourage them to look at life activities in a different way.

Kylia, Changing one's attitude is the solution to almost everything. As long as I wait for people or things to change, I'll continue to be miserable. The only thing I can change is me.
Tere and Katla, sorry to hear about your car mishaps. At the very least, they are always a huge painful use of time that could be better spent in other ways.
Jake goes to the chiropractor today so I'll have about an hour alone at home--a rare treat.

The cookie 🍪 was gone in 1 day we all tore into it lol 😂.Luckily it was thin.
Today asked JR underwear 🩲 or diaper for today? He chose underwear 🩲.He hasn’t peed yet but when he does he will be in for a shock lol 😂. He’ll probably run back to the diaper for the day after will see.
Took latches off some cabinets but not the knife drawers! Or my precious glass ones!
Teaching JR step by step.
As for money in this we are paying on a new house 🏡 (we purchased not knowing this virus would hit of course) so we’re paycheck to paycheck. We stocked up in foods by changing what we normally buy but it’s the same amount. I bought pasta on sale to anything I saw .Any name brand stuff didn’t buy we went with the 98c Jug of bleach to cheapest thinnest TP. Some ramen noodles too. Big bag of rice 🍚 luckily hubby bought it months ago. They were saying stock up on meds but we can’t afford to do that at all. If it’s between JR y meds it will be JR.
Margaret- The young man from China 🇨🇳 real nice feel free to talk to him in his comment section he loves to answer back

Yes ... I'm mainly sticking with WHO and my Department. I can't avoid it ... we get emails every day now.
I'm also following what the university has to say ... waiting for the moment when they say, we're shutting our doors for a while.

I actually agree, as well. I had to keep up with what was happening in Israel because we were scheduled to travel there. I am also an administrator at a university, so we are forced to keep up with what is happening for the sake of our students. Aside from that, my husband and I (even though he's over 60 gasp!) are conducting life as usual. We have still been doing date night, going to the gym, kids are going to school and cello lessons. My university posted a meme to students, which has been going around, "Keep calm and wash your hands." We are basically living by that motto. As a family, we have assured each other that if we do catch the virus, chances are in our favor that it will be a very mild case. On the other hand, my mother is almost 80 and a little frail, so she is staying in, having groceries delivered, etc. But she is also about an hour from Seattle. I think that also makes a difference. She is closer to the US "epicenter" than she is comfortable being.
Sorry if my fretting about our Israel trip stressed people out.
On that front, the Israeli client wants to reschedule for May, so we may still get to go. Just not in two weeks. My husband's company gave them the option of an online version, but they want face to face.
ETA: Oh, and since we aren't going to Israel, and Alaska has advertised great flight prices, we have decided to fly to Utah over spring break and finish cleaning out my mil's house. So, definitely business as usual at my house. Lol
Much love,
Flea

Just got back from singing. We were about 10 fewer than normal, but still around 30. 9 stayed on for the classical. Lots of virus jokes.
Quite a few women were saying how moved they were by some of the songs we are practicing for the concert. Me too. They so remind me of what my mum told me about wartime, songs I heard her singing round the house, or ones we used to sing in the car on long journeys. One was "A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square ". My mother was not a good mother, but the best of her went into singing and all the musical productions she was in. Happy times. The war associations too. Vera Lynn singing to the troops. My mother was young then and beautiful. Her life was before her.
Another time I did have a lump in my throat, was when we were leaving Dover on our very first cruise, the one I met up with Penny. They asked us all to come up on deck for 'SailAway' champagne and then the orchestra started playing The White Cliffs of Dover. Then they said they had a surprise for us and a Spitfire came roaring out of the distance and kept flying round and round the ship. Even DH had a tear in his eye.
My friends have taken my absence from the meet up ok. My difficult friend is a bit cross, but understands that I don't want to be snuffling and coughing on the trains and underground. Theatre would be out for sure.
Saga still seems to think their ships will be sailing as normal. I'm not so sure.

Flea- Don’t worry about it we’re all in the same boat as a world wide issue. Just found out all of Italy is locked down I’m in disbelief of it all.I’ve never heard of a whole country being locked down.
So far JR peed twice in his underwear 🩲 doesn’t seem to bother him at all. Same kid the diaper can fall off wet he doesn’t want to stop playing. Going to keep trying got 6 pairs of underwear when I run out diaper y wash them all for tomorrow I guess. So far the rubbers trapping it well.
Coronovirus- Giliade pharmaceutical made a possible cure they couldn’t get approval for testing seeing airlines stopping China flights 1 by 1 they sent it without approval to be used there. Will see how it goes. If it works great if not oh well at least they tried.

With the clubhouse in my neighborhood closed, there is a different feel to my walks with Sasha in the morning. We used to meet and greet the ping pong players who gathered there at 8 AM six days a week and we stopped at the clubhouse to use the restroom so we could extend the walk longer. Today would have been the "Fit and Fall Proof" exercise class. Now we see only a few dog walkers and we have to come home earlier when it's time for me to use the restroom. Once I'm home, it's life as usual. Jake is fixing some special dish with a piece of pork he took out of the freezer yesterday.
Heather, I agree with you about staying home while coughing and snuffling. No need to feel uncomfortable at this time or make anyone else uncomfortable. Your singing group sounds like so much fun.
Flea, I hope things work out for you to go to Israel one of these days.

Husband got his stitches out from an arm area today. On February 27th they cut out a suspicious mole. Last week the dermatologist called and stated they had gotten it all.👍be
Today I plan on drinking 72 oz of water. Every 2 hours until 6pm. Sometimes it helps me think of water like a medicine.👍

I have been keeping husband home these days, due to his compromised immune system. He hasn't gone too squirrelly yet.

I am working on maintaining my weight. I worked hard the last 10 years to lose my weight and went through a divorce. It's a constant struggle to not overeat. I crave all the time. I am working on staying active every day. Every. Dang. Day. I will walk. I also attempt to workout every other day. Some days it's such an effort and other days I feel more peppy. Life is a struggle and weight is no different. I attempt to eat as healthy as I can. That's 80% of weight I feel is what you put in your mouth. Blessings to all!4

Barbie - I remember an argument when I was young between my mother and father when she said, "I don't know why you were so keen on Vera Lynn. She wasn't anything to look at!" My father had a tear in his eye when he replied, "You don't understand what she meant to us when we were far away and missing home. We soldiers were all in love with her as she represented our loved ones for us." My dad was in the Indian Army. Her voice was "home" for them.
DH's ex wife, a dancer, once was in a show with Vera Lynn. Apparently she was a right b...h.
I think she is still alive. Just. Just checked - 102.

Okie-I am hoping Rebecca meant that She would drink a total of 72 ounces. As I think 72 ounces every 2 hours would give her water poisoning7

Trucker- Sending hugs to your daughter to get well. I worked in public accounting for over 5 years. I completely forgot about the germs that spread during tax season. Don't let people borrow your pens.
Amber- The chocolate chip cookie looks great. Thank you for the information on the Heritage Diet. Its very interesting.
Last night I went to the ymca for my body pump class. I was able to keep up until the last 2 sessions. (chest and abs) Woke up this morning with sore legs.
Weather is gorgeous here.

I hope that’s what she meant. If you drink the water over a 16 hour period, that’s just a bit over a half cup every two hours. Easily doable I would think.
I thought of water poisoning as well when I thought she meant 72 oz every two hours.

I’m leaning toward this Corono Virus not being around too long….it was made in China. I bet Florida is worried. Wonder if this will make DisneyLand’s prices go down???
Carol – the temp crown is on. I didn’t take any anesthesia (again). Truthfully, they were a little surprised but they said they have a few patients who don’t take any novacaine. He also cleaned out the decay between another crown and a filling (I think it was). Anyway, it didn’t hurt at all. I was surprised when he said he was finished drilling down for the crown. I thought it would be more uncomfortable. I go back on April 7 for the permanent crown.
Debbie VA – Prayers
Rebecca – good idea keep dh home
Welcome everyone new!
Okie – that’s how I interpret Rebecca’s post. But if it was 72oz every hour, she’d float away. I bet she means 72oz in a day but drinking so many ounces every hour
After the dentist went and bought more yarn for the tree skirt that I need to finish. They asked this lady in front of me to punch her phone number into the keypad and she didn’t want to touch it. Never thought of that. They had no problem, the guy just punched it into his register. I tell you, Michael’s is much more expensive than ACMoore and not nearly as friendly. Anyway, then went to Hamrick’s and, natch, they didn’t have my size of shoes that I wanted. Supposedly, another store has my size, but what happens is that they send the wide size and I can’t use the wide. Then went to the mall here and got this body wash for Jess for free. I tell you, it seems that indoor malls are really going out of favor. Then went to the dollar store to get birthday cards for Jess and her bf and a new microwave food cover, then home.

Just watched an interview with someone who is directly involved with working on a vaccine for Covid-19. He was an American being interviewd by a British Journalist. He said we need to learn from the Chinese and those and Singapore and follow their lead in trying to slow this illness down. There was one case at the end of December now it is spread worldwide. He stressed this illness will not totally go away anytime soon. We need to buy time so a vaccine can be found.
Seeing how China shut down and now Italy. It does give us time to consider what we can do to prepare without panicing. In some ways it is like preparing for a natural disaster. You get yourself as prepared as you can and pray that disaster doesn't hit you. At least if it does and you are prepared you are in a better postion to do damage control.
If they find you have been exposed it is important to quarantine yourself for 14 days. Hence why it is important to have supplies ready.
The U.S. does not have the beds to take care of those who may be come serouily ill from this illness. We need to work together and do what we can do to stay healthly so we do not overburden the health care system.
Staying home when sick is important. So Heather you are doing the right thing in staying home.
Watch out for scammers that promise cures, vaccines, and supplies like masks. Right now their is no cure and no vaccine. Someone trying to sell you a mask on line is probably a scammer.
It is true for most it will be milder. Who that 15% that will get hit hard is still unknown. It is that 15% we all need to work together to protect. For those of us over 60 we are more vulnerable. It is recommended we try to avoid crowds.
They also interviewed a younger man who worked in the health system who was in ICU. He said it hit him fast just like the flu can. Younger people can also get hit hard, too.
Having survived the Swine Flu I do take this very serioulsly.
