Rest day today - maybe just walk. Want to go easy before Sunday attempt at HM.
Our stay at home order begins today at 5, but green ways will be open as long as you follow social distancing. All other things will be closed - playgrounds, athletic courts, bathrooms, etc.
And all non-essential business.
Hoping that I can still manage on Sunday somehow without worry of "breaking" rules.
Heading to work today to see what they expect from us. I work at the state Dental Board, so not sure if we are considered essential or not.
Looking forward to the warmer weather! Oh, and I love swiss rolls! The chocolate kind.7 -

well. nothing i have is running related so I guess I've been censored out of this group too. Enjoy your COVID peeps. My perspective on the spoiler proposal: Outside the virus situation, I've seen stuff on this thread not directly related to running that is either upsetting (because it is a sad or unfortunate personal circumstance) or that I've disagreed with. We're runners, but we've got whole lives outside running that sometimes come up and I'm not sure why COVID would be an exception.
That said, if the rule becomes no uncensored mentions of COVID-19 outside of personal running impacts, I'll respect that. But for most of us, how we're running is interwoven with how we're working, what we're eating, what's going on with our family, and COVID-19 is influencing all of that.8 -

@Elise4270 We can discuss whatever we want in the fat kid thread. I think I'll stick over there since this thread keeps trying to censor my thoughts.3 -

I ask that we not let this divide us or drive people off. We all have faced many things together. We can continue.
Sadly I know of more than one young and healthy person that has died form this in my networks. It is at times like this we need to circle the wagons and come together against the night. The sun will rise again, we will get to the other side of this virus, and other others that come, but while we go through let's commit to uplift each other and be even more mindful than normal of what each of us is facing.
That as always be the core of this thread. Let's hold on to that and keep on keeping on.17 -
Now for something REALLY controversial...My lunch!10
-
I don't think this is actually quilted - but a little running related quilt design idea:
Edited - I did not read the recent posts before posting this, so I was not aware of the spoiler discussion.
I don't think we need to censor what we can talk about here. Of course running is our focus and what brings us together, but things impact us all that we want to talk about. I hope that people will not leave the thread. We are all in this together.
Also, @PastorVincent, now you're starting something. LOL. I'm an equal opportunity condimentist but I only eat hot dogs at a ball game and they kind of gross me out any other time. But yeah, at a game with beer it seems right.

They are Stax actually, Pringles are NOT GF. And they are original flavor.2 -
@katharmonic Love that quilt!

Is it against the law to have all 3 on one plate?..lol4
-
Since there are so many things in our lives that impact if, when, where and how we run and feel while we run, both good and bad so I don't think anything should be censored. We need to be able to talk about what is stressing us out and maybe keeping us from being able to get out that door. We are experiencing similar situations with the virus lockdown all over the world and it affects us all differently. Being able to talk about it, work out our stress and knowing that so many others are going through what we are is so helpful. As @PastorVincent said 'The sun will rise again, we will get to the other side of this virus, and other others that come, but while we go through let's commit to uplift each other and be even more mindful than normal of what each of us is facing.'
Also if you think a post is something you don't want to read (about any subject that could be TMI) don't read it.
Now about those hot dogs...
@katharmonic - I think we may need to have some as snacks for our ZoomBar beer and wine fest meetup. But with mustard and onions, hold the ketchup!
@rheddmobile - those mini quilts are beautiful! The detail is incredible. You guys with the quilting skills are just amazing!

well I did not know that. I like original flavor... pass 'em over. And don't get any ketchup on 'em.

These are all beef GF ones. So that makes them okay (and expensive)1 -

You took too long to ask, they have been eaten.1 -
Well. I did it! I KILLED the 9.5 mile run this morning. It was a slow, agonizing death, but I killed it! I got up early and drove to the paved trail where I ran my 10K in July. I knew it was tough this time, so was better prepared. Here are a couple of pictures when I started.
Nice sunrise over the mountain.
The clouds came in. I'ts not real obvious in the picture, but I love seeing the sun shining down in "streams."
I was doing pretty good until about 2.5 miles in when my nice paved trail turned into a muddy, wet mess. It has rained a lot this past week and the small creek running along the trail had gotten out of banks. I wasn't prepared for that. I tried to walk around and keep my shoes clean (yes I am one of those), but it didn't work. I really wouldn't have cared too much had I planned on it, but I didn't have extra shoes and I had an appointment after my run.
Not what I was expecting when I started out this morning.
So much for keeping my shoes clean and dry.
I felt pretty good until about mile 7. This trail is pretty hilly, so I was trying to run by feel more than anything else. I ran/walked 3/1 minutes when I could but allowed myself to change that to whatever I could do on the hills. I walked a lot of them, but also ran longer on the flat and downhill areas. This is an out and back trail that is about 7.5 miles total. There's a little park at the start/end that has a track that's about 0.3 miles. I ran/walked on that a couple of times and then decided to run back partway down the trail and then turn around to complete the run. A quarter mile into that, I realized I had made a mistake. I should have stopped at the car and got something to drink, as I didn't carry anything with me. I was beginning to feel a little faint, so I turned around and ran/walked back. I did stop for a drink and then finished the last 1.5 miles on the little track. I ran/walked this part for 1/1 minute each. It showed in the splits, obviously. The first 5 miles were around 12 min/mile. Mile 6 was a hilly part, so it was 13:05. Mile 7 was 12:26. The last 2.5 were 13:38, 13:49, and 6:39 (for half a mile).
Did I mention that I KILLED IT?! Here I am at the end, after getting some Gatorade in me.
Things I learned:
Seven or 8 miles is my max without nutrition or hydration.
I need to learn how to slow down on the long runs.
I need to repeat the last couple of weeks in the training plan until 9.5 miles gets a little easier. I don't think I'll be ready for 11 miles in two weeks.
Always take a backup pair of shoes and socks.
Don't go for a long run right before getting a hair cut. I was still sweaty and probably grossed out my hairdresser.

@quilteryoyo Great job! You did kill it and loved the pictures! So impressed!
@katharmonic Me too! I crave a hot dog with mustard and sauerkraut and cold beer but only at a baseball game.
@PastorVincent Good reminder. Thank you.
The only running happening for me is with my mouth, according to my introvert office mates ( dear spouse and daughter )so I'll keep my lips zipped and relish (no pun intended) my effort on the bike for now cuz that's all I got. Cheers and happy weekend.🤘🍸

On the subject of spoilering posts, I know I was part of the argument which inspired the request, and I apologize. I appreciate that this is a space where people come to escape the stresses of current events. Certain posts have made me think hard about blocking people, and that’s not a thing I normally do. But I realized I do care about them and wish them well. Even when I think they are wrong-headed. I just sincerely hope everyone, even those who don’t “believe” in what’s happening, realizes how important it is to be kind and help everyone else.
I felt like the request for spoilering off-topic conversation about the virus was a reasonable compromise which made it easier for people wanting to avoid the subject to do so, without trying to police what everyone is allowed to say. It’s unfortunate that it offended more people.
Anyway on that subject a running friend of mine, who has cerebral palsy and races with a pusher, has tested positive, along with his mother who is one of my mother’s close friends. It’s been 14 days, they are about to be released from quarantine, and as I understand it both are asymptomatic - I don’t know all the circumstances but presumably they were tested because it could be extremely dangerous for him. And it looks like both have been very lucky! So that’s good news. And my mom hadn’t seen them for a while which is also good news.15 -
I'm sorry guys. I didn't mean to blow things up. I just couldn't keep quiet any longer with some of the comments made by ONE person - note I've only noticed one person really making those comments. I have now done the sensible thing and will no longer respond to those kind of comments because I can see that the overwhelming majority, 99% of you from my count, agree about taking this serious.
Can I say how much I appreciate you all. For being here to listen, support, encourage and even occasionally remind me of the facts. I see support as encouragement and also bringing back to earth when needed, and you have done that to me a few times! Been the voice of reason when I've gone off on a tangent. Support isn't always saying yes, we have enough of those in government. Support is being a voice of reason.
So I will no longer respond to any detractors. My opinion is clear, as is the general consensus of the group. I will still be talking covid, without spoilers, because it is my life!10 -
@quilteryoyo Beautiful pictures and great job!
@rheddmobile I'm so glad that your friend is doing well! It's great to hear positive news about people coming through this.4 -
Ok so my husband has suggested that I live somewhere else for the duration of the crisis. Because I am front line health, I am at huge risk of contracting it, in fact we all feel its a case of when, not if. He doesn't want to get it, and doesn't want the kids to get it. My 6yr old gets asthma, and it always kicks off worse when she's got a cold/flu. So we aren't keen on her getting it.
I admit to resisting. For a few reasons.
1: Id feel guilty about him caring for the kids 24/7 for 3 weeks, potentially longer.
2: I'm not that worried about the kids getting it, they will be miserable for a few days but it seems to be sparing kids. But then that guilt/stress? And if they have it, I have no choice but to stay home from work anyway
3: and maybe this should be no one, the idea of not being with my family for that length of time, or even longer, rips out my heart.
So wise world of the MFP monthly running challenge group. Advice, suggestions?
I've emailed my manager asking what work has in place atm, work are supposed to provide accommodation for those who want to stay away from family. But won't hear until Monday.

It would rip my heart out too. But you haven’t mentioned your husband’s health - and younger, healthy men have been ending up on respirators a lot. Considering that non-symptomatic transmission in family groups appears to be a major driver, it might be an important thing to think about.1 -

Ok, I put a suggestion up for vote. Some people like the idea. Some people didn’t. Some people need to go for a run.4
