Wanted to share that there are things the medical community is noting regarding the virus. They suspect the CDC will update, but the earlier you know the more likely you can take care of yourself. Low grade fever 99.2-99.8F and diarrhea appear to be early signs.
Not a joke. Although it would be a good one with the tp situation.
Well I tried to post a link to the case... But it's a medical community and tight on sharing, HIPPA.6 -
She has now declared she wants to be a pilot, so I informed her she needs to concentrate on maths, reading a writing if she wants to be, and she wants to learn more. So good when they are this age!
Definitely not the type of parent to push them into anything, but if the opportunity arises to remind them how important school is, I'm not one to let it pass by haha
I think that is a fab career choice! Im a "Hybrid", American on my dad's side, and his brother, my uncle Bob was a pilot, and on my mum's side I'm English, with my cousins in South Africa. My cousin Sean (who is now in Australia) is a pilot (used to fly Princes William & Harry around when they were there) and my other cousin Karen's son is also a pilot!
If you allow her to look at Instagram, there is a lady who I follow who posts some really cool pictures, "PilotMaria". She is a legit pilot from Sweden and is really inspiring. At times, makes me kinda wish I would have chosen to be a pilot, too!4 -

Today's run was a tempo run. I ran 5 miles over all with mile 2 and 3 at 10K race pace. It was a good run. It was already pretty warm when I got out, but it wasn't too bad. I am just enjoying being able to get out while I can.
I love all the quilts. Y'all are really good. I have quilted a little, but mostly t-shirt quilts and so far one baby quilt for my niece. I just found out my nephew is expecting now so I guess I need to make another one. I have never machine quilted, just hand quilted. I can sew a little, but my daughter is really good. She can make patterns and makes a lot of her own clothes.
2020 races:
5/16/20: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon 🤞4 -
Lovely quilts, everyone! I do not sew but I love the creativity and art in quilts. I used to knit but I haven't for a couple of years. I need to spend my money on shoes and gear more than yarn. Plus I don't have the attention span these days.

Today I was enjoying some of the positives of work from home life. No commute time, no shower required, only have to look presentable from the waist up (but be careful there - like the lady who used the restroom while on a zoom call), can do laundry while working, can take the dog for a walk in the 60 degree weather between classes, and then decide you still have time for a quick run before the next class, can shower and be ready to teach in 15 minutes.
But then my laptop decided to act like it was going to burst into flames and it lost internet and froze up, so I had to reboot and ended up late to my session and without any of my files loaded and ready. Fortunately it all seemed to right itself and I got back on track but I had visions of online teaching disaster for a few minutes. Instead it was just boring.
I can't tell you how much I would love to go out for a beer right now. With people, at a bar.

@polskagirl01 I love your flowers, the colors just pop off that white background and the quilting itself is fantastic. How long did it take you? Also it is amazing that you can take UFOs and finish them like that!6

Dang I wasn't fast enough! Thanks Elise
You can have May. Run on my friend.
Is that from Harry Potter - "Wizzard On!"
Nope. There’s a store in Texas we use to shop at, RunOn! So I think between that and “carry on”.. and the “stay thirsty my friend”, it just where my brain went.
I tried a walk today. Wow 92F! Then ate brownies.
ETA @katharmonic we could set up a Zoom meeting and all have a beer for you if ya want, make some nachos and sliders? ZoomBar. It’s bound to be a thing soon.6 -

Oh for sure. Virtual happy hours are all the rage. I'm having one tomorrow night with some friends (one of whom is in Brisbane, Australia and we haven't talked in years, but this global situation is bringing us back together, another positive). I'll take some of those nachos though. That would be awesome.2 -
@quilteryoyo and @bearly63 - I have a planter in the back of our house that had nothing planted in it so I decided it would be my succulent garden. They really much hardier than I realized and very drought resistant. I was actually worried that all the rain we have been having might kill them. I tend to overwater them in the house and the die. The cool thing is you can pop a 'leaf' off and stick in the dirt and it will root and grow. I am pretty sure the one with the pink daisy like flowers is sending out new growths. BTW I had no idea about those flowers until I saw them in the garden or the yellow ones tipped in red. I was pretty excited though when I saw them!
I am doing the 'un-canceled project' challenge too!
@polskagirl01 - I would enjoy the design work and drawing it all out and even the appliqués but someone else would need to do the quilting. I do cross stitch and often design my own patterns for that. I designed and stitched and tablecloth years ago for my MIL. That was probably the biggest project I have done.
My mom was very creative and designed and made pretty much all my clothes until I was in HS. She wanted to be a designer and made all of her own clothes too. She had a doll that she would sew for first to see how it looked and then made the patterns to fit. She helped me to make my 1st very simple basic dress but I was such a perfectionist, ripping out seams, etc. if they weren't perfect to me, that she took it away from me and wouldn't let me finish it. I still have it (still unfinished) as a reminder to myself that everything, especially hand made things don't have to be perfect. I enjoy small craft projects but I know a quilt would be too much for me.3 -
@Elise4270 - I think you are on to something with your ZoomBar! We could even do ZoomWineTasting!
I posted this on FB and @7lenny7 said they were actually going to do this with different wines in each room (with snacks). The wines would be in paper bags so you don't know what you are tasting until it is all finished.

Glad I took my running clothes to work with me. It was a beautiful day. I ran 3.26 miles. It was 74F and unfortunately I only had long pants. I got hot but I survived! Most people I saw were social distancing except a large group of teens playing basketball in a local park. I bet there were at least 30 of them on the court and several others hanging close by. What are their parents thinking???5

It was 70F out! I am like dead. Its March in Pittsburgh. 70F does not compute. SHeesh! I did get out though.5

Me too! But no way I can afford that till my son is out of school and supporting himself. But a pilot's license is in my future. Or so goes my hopes currently.

y'all getting earlier and early each month LOL. Plan to set up May next week then?3 -
dreamer12151 wrote: »What a difference a day makes! I know it's not much for some, but for me it is, so I'll share. I was able to run the first 1.1 miles total, no walking. The 2nd 1.1, I only took 2 1 min walk breaks. I haven't felt that good in a long time. Next run scheduled for Sat morning.
Wow!!! Great job!!1 -
This is the only jelly roll I know:

@shanaber is that your garden? So pretty. Our yard is basically xeriscaped....lots of deer, not so much water in the summer. So I added some pots to get some color. And feed the deer
Yeah, we have about 1/2 dozen deer that claim our yard so not much in the way of plants here either.1 -
@avidkeo the first time I was in Washington, D.C. it was for work and I was just out of college, I didn’t have much time for being a tourist, but I made it to the part of the Smithsonian air and space museum that’s is on the national mall. They were offering some sort of an IMAX that had something to do with fighter pilots. Now, it was also one of the first, if not THE first IMAX I ever saw (small town, sheltered ranch kid), so that may have also made an impression. But I remember coming out of there and calling my dad and asking if “I could be a fighter pilot when I grow up?” - and I was 21-22, out of college and employed.... they are apparently pretty good at what they do!
@Elise4270, @katharmonic, @shanaber, Andy anyone else, I am totally game for virtual wine tour or virtual happy hour or other shenanigans. Dad is trying to establish daily Skype or similar dates with me and my sis, which is an indicator of how stir crazy he isn’t going.
No run today... or other fitness, even... today blew up in my face in such unexpected ways... I just didn’t have anything left... and I also lost my one and only day off tomorrow, all because people are dumb, so likely nothing tomorrow, either...... and and off topic vent on *that* issue in the spoiler, but I gotta put it out there....open at your own risk....No matter what you personally think of current events, or how exaggerated you think it may be..... no matter what your opinions are on isolation policies....or how minor/major you think this really is...Or anything else in this situation.
PLEASE do NOT come to work if you are sick!!! Even if you *KNOW* it is “just a cold” or “ just a sinus infection.” Just, don’t do it! Just stay the F home!
It first of all freaks the F out of a ton of people. Which then means a lot of people spend their entire day very unproductively and trying to put out fires and calm people down. Only to still have things blow up in their faces. As well as spending even more time on disinfecting junk. It also leads to the people who are on rotation the next day logically not feeling comfortable/safe coming in. Especially if those folks can’t even risk getting a cold right now due to auxiliary caregiver responsibilities. And that reluctance then has a total snowball effect of further freaked out people. And I honestly can’t blame them for their anxiety. And then you have people like me, who suck at personal interactions, emotions, and empathy, and stuff, trying to handle very emotional and freaked out people... which is never going to end well.
And also, I would totally LOVE to know how a person can *know* they have “just” anything right now.
And this is coming from the person who is normally the poster child for working when I’m sick, and normally would have no grounds for calling anyone else out on the topic... but now ain’t normal.
And yes... this is just the tip of the hot mess of a day.

I finally made it out for a run after work today. I hadn’t run since last Tues as lost a little bit of motivation. I started up a cross training program on Sunday and was pretty good this week with getting that in at least. The run tonight was a bit rough and took a while to get settled in. I’m sure it was due to the weights and stuff this week, but I’m hoping to stick to the XT during this “off season.” I started working from home this week on Tues, so today I went for a walk with my daughter and our dog. I’m going to try and make an effort to do that each day as it was nice. We got a chance to chat and stretch our legs. There were quite a few people out enjoying their midday and afternoon walks today.
Yesterday, I started asking the team at work a positive thing that had happened in the last 24 hours. I really enjoyed hearing their responses and looking forward to hearing what they come up with each day.
March

3/7 - 7 miles

3/17 - 4.5 miles
3/26 - 3 miles
Total 32 miles/ 65 miles6 -
So many posts to catch up on!
I went to the running store today. They are doing curbside. I got mizuno’s.
And ordered a shirt that says “running not cancelled 2020.”
I’m trying to heal my IT band - the people at the running store said i need to focus on my glutes.
I’ve been getting out every day this week on the trail with Buzz because I’m certain that soon I won’t be able to.
I might be losing my mind from all the ten and twelve hour days but i am BEYOND grateful for the work and to be considered “essential.”
I plan to do some gardening and running and playing with the kids this weekend.
The more I see this virus spread the more I feel in shock and awe. I am concerned. I am taking precautions. I am trying to maintain and hang onto peace with every bit of my being. I believe this is the calm before the storm and it isn’t calm.
They are only letting us buy 1 of some things and only 2 of others.... i understand and respect why but it is so eery.... how far will this go....
I am worried about how the isolation is affecting my kids.
*sigh* we are taken care of. I have work and er have food and shelter and sunshine. We are going to get through this7 -
I love that @hanlonsk put her thoughts on the current ‘situation’ in a spoiler. It would be great to be able to keep this thread mostly about running as it’s such a great topic, and if we want to talk about the 'situation’ we can, but if we don’t, it’s easy to avoid.
I vote all discussion of the virus that is not directly related to our personal running experience be henceforth be put in a spoiler.
Agreed?
For those who don’t know how, preface you text with the word spoiler in square brackets and the same at the end but with the addition of a slash - like this: /spoiler (but in square brackets: [ ] )

@ContraryMaryMary I think that is a wonderful idea.3

I have a question about all the parents with kids having to stay at home. Do you allow them to do FaceTime or something similar with their friends? I would think doing something like a group FT would be fun for them to talk and be goofy or just interact a bit the way they do at school or when playing together.
I also love the virtual tours that @Avidkeo did with her kids. What a great idea - so many places have put up fun virtual tours. Heck I enjoy them!
No run today but I did make myself do 90 minutes of strength training with 3 sets of 10 different exercises. I pulled out my adjustable weight set and discovered that while it should theoretically have 40lbs of weights as advertised, it doesn't - spread into 2 dumbbells each only have 18.6lbs which oddly bugs me to no end. But I got enough done that I am sure to be a bit sore tomorrow.5 -
Spent my day buying supplies - got mostly everything except cleaning products.
Mini quilts! I like minis because they allow me to explore the history of quilting and the fun of design without the time and expense. You can make a lot of minis from someone else’s scraps. I’ve done about a billion of these, most are on a dollhouse bed somewhere. The one thing I can’t figure out how to do well in miniature is a pieced wedding ring - I’m thinking I may cheat and print the wedding rings then piece them together.8 -
@PastorVincent @janejellyroll we Brits call that a Swiss Roll! Don’t know why. And being fans of stodgy desserts we also make a lard pastry version called quite charmingly a Jam Roly-Poly. It’s very old fashioned though so you don’t see it much.
Very impressed by the crafty and creative folk on here. I do loads with my classes at school then come home and can’t be bothered. Guess my outlet is playing the piano but my garden really needs me to develop some green fingers because we have definitely gone beyond shabby chic into just shabby now.
Sun is still shining - almost like it’s taunting us in these times- but it was chilly this morning. Got around 6K done and shortly going to go and wake the kids up.
Hang in there everyone - and again, big thanks to any medics. In the UK we had a national round of applause for our NHS workers last night at 8pm. Everyone came to their doors and windows for it and there was cheering, banging, even fireworks. Such a moving and special gesture. Stay safe all x

That is a great link @quilteryoyo and I will join you there.
A few days burying my head and doing a house clean up so I apologise I have not read the all 347 posts though I hope you are all striding boldly forward where you can.Well there are some unexpected bonuses to mini-quarantine in the UK. Spring cleaning found a box with over £1k got from selling a car and was going to use to buy a new one but never did. Old £10 notes so I have to wait until the banks re-open to swap them. Using all the foods we bought in an adventerous moment and didn't try and even going to bake to use the best before January flour. The 2015 ryvitas had to go - though I'm pretty sure they would have tasted exactly the same as when they were in date!
Happy Friday, stay safe 😊

Oooh and chocolate ones too! I admit I made a pumpkin roll a couple days ago and it was a fail. Tasted great, but my pan was too small for the amount of batter and the resulting cake was thick and broke when I tried to roll it.
I biked today. Felt better than last time, also wasn't windy like the other day. So I went a little farther, almost 12k. I'd like to build up my bike rides to double that, but will have to do so over time as it's not exactly flat around my house.5 -

Sounds like you just have to make another one! And keep at it until it is just right, then make more to give out3 -
If we are telling people what the can and cannot post here or how to post I will be out. This is absolutely *kitten* ridiculous. This is affecting everyone and we can't just pretend it's not happening. I keep seeing runners and triathletes saying they tested positive. It's real. It's here. And people need to *kitten* accept it and stay the *kitten* home.
Guess what? My state is *kitten* hiding/manipulating numbers and saying don't test anymore. I just received word that two people have it that work in the same areas as some of my employees. My DH has a coworker who came to work after his MIL supposedly tested positive. Coworker won't go home and won't tell management. So others told for him. DH has to go to work today and if that coworker is there he will be leaving. After he lets management know his thoughts on this.
Here's a *kitten* spoiler for you*kitten* OFF. DONT LIKE IT? *kitten* BLOCK ME6
