Heather Congratulations on DH’s haircut! I used the quarantine to get my DH to let me cut it shorter. I love it. He doesn’t like that he is balding, but I think he looks great. I, too, color my own. I’ve been using Loreal Creme Excellence 38 years. So hard to have the time away from your grands! I only see my older son’s children a couple of times a year. This year I may not see them at all. I love video chatting and texting with them, but I miss their hugs and playing games together, etc.
Janet So glad you were able to get your daughter into her new house. Very sorry to hear your brother is not doing well! I hope he is negative on the test! Prayers for him and for you!
Allie Thinking of you in the difficult work situation!
Carey Welcome back! I joined after you were in the group, but I look forward to getting to know you.
Welcome kk!
Beth Glad your vertigo is better today!!
SuzyQ Where are you finding all of these hilarious cartoons??
Margaret Great painting!!

Well goodness the nuts come out from their rocks during stuff don’t they! Hearing Doctors to Grocery stores having to put up with rude customers who cough y spit at them. Cops 🚓 to bus drivers also. One driver died after being coughed at older Lady was positive. A Cop got infected when spat upon his coworkers caught it. Be kind to everyone still working that’s
The front lines now anyone out there during this mess with employers choosing whether they can wear a mask/gloves or not from home (many saying No until it’s too late). I’m waiting on a few grocery items still but another box arrived with a few I will not call to complain not time for that. I will patiently wait my turn. Ordered a month ago it will get here when I need it most I’m sure.

Stay safe everyone. I am using the ingredients I have on hand for meals. I do go for my walks. My oldest and youngest sons both have to work from home, The son near me (pharmacist) has to go in work every day. One day at a time. I just got two new cookbooks that I want to read through.
Be safe everyone.

Hi Gals,
Cheri – do your masks fog up your glasses? I am having to choose, breathing or seeing… and if I don’t see I run into things – so maybe die of covid 19 or death from a broken neck… hmmm
Kelly-a bit ago you asked about starting a garden… and I have been asked to write a blog post about starting a garden for my camp employer… so guess I need to do this – I’ll practice on you LOL and put it in a spoiler!Starting a veggie garden – for the beginner
First remember that every gardener started as a beginner, and every gardener even every farmer has a crop that doesn’t do well one year, a plant they just can’t get to grow .. So don’t take it personally.
Also NO ONE has a black thumb, gardens require attention, daily at some times, every other day other times of the growing season; most “black thumbs” are really a lifestyle that doesn’t include the attention time required to be a successful garden. So if you know it will be hard to commit the time, start small – even with just a pot.
Grow only things you like to eat, and eat in quantity. For example I love corn on the cob; I want corn 1-2 times a week, for the 3 months of summer so that is 12-24 ears, and corn takes a lot of space, a lot of water, full sun and often gets insects – not worth the resources of time/water – for just 18ish ears. I can eat tomatoes 2-3 meals a day every day of summer… that’s worth the resources! You need to grow what you love. Growing things that are happy in your climate makes it easier to have success.
For summer growing in the Grand Haven, MI area look at what the local farmers are growing – a quick “Google” showed me this list.
Vegetables:
• beets
• carrots
• celery
• sweet corn
• cucumber
• eggplant
• garlic
• green beans
• green onions
• hot peppers
• kale
• lettuce
• onions
• peas
• potatoes
• radishes
• salad greens
• salad mix
• shallots
• spinach
• summer squash
• sweet peppers
• tomatoes
• turnips
• zucchini
This is a great place to start. Kelly for you with the kids I would do something they could easily plant and then see come up and pick. Looking at this list I would recommend beans. Bean seeds are large enough for small fingers, they come in climbing ones or in a bush style.
You will need an area that the soil is dug up and loosened. Depending on your soil you might want to dig in a bag of soil.
If you go bush style the kids can plant in a paper egg carton (just the side with the egg spots) 3 seeds per carton on one side do one at each of the end egg spots on the other side do one seed in the center egg spot, fill the egg holes with soil, then plant the entire egg carton in the ground, dig a trench to set the carton in with top edge of the carton ¼ of an inch lower than the top of the ground cover with soil. Water every other day. You can do this inside if its still cold outside.

Lisa in AR, that picture of the baby is so endearing! I feel myself tearing up a little at the vulnerability there.
Allie! You GO, girl! You have skills and imagination to burn. Help someone younger figure out how to best set up their business. If you enjoy typing, offer your services to writers. Many hate to retype something for publication. Start an online advice column for women new to being single again. Many are left clueless when they first find themselves living on their own again. Men too.
Kim from CA, i remember how excited I got when we each planted a limabean in a paper cup in second grade! And when I brought it home, mom helped me plant it and set the hose at a gentle mist to keep it moist during our hot Ohio summers. When I’d got enough ripe pods, my mom taught me how to shuck them, and then simmer the fresh limabeans in a bit of water, a little salt and just a pinch of sugar. Then we added butter, and I served them to everyone with a teaspoon. (There really weren’t that many.) Mom made sure I got extra, and I’d never tasted anything quite so good!
I’m still feeling great, and got the weight loss free fall stopped at 137#, so I’ll continue to carefully keep my calories and protein up a bit. That story above re the Lima’s made me hunger for them, so perhaps I’ll look out for a SMALL package of the frozen baby limas, they’re the best!
I’m still dealing with some loneliness issues, but checking in here really does help! We are having next to no direct client contact right now at the tax office. Nearly everyone is dropping off their documents at the front desk and signing the necessary permission for me to do their return, then a few exchanges by email, and they come back in, sign the filing document, pay, and they’re out of there like a cat out of the fish pond.
Be well, be wise, and catch up on something fun for yourself!

Barbie: Your loaf of bread is very appealing. Your strategy for freezing slices so you can have one each day is brilliant.
Margaret: I love your painting. The colors are striking and horses are a favorite of mine.
Amber: I saw the story about the big cats at the Bronx Zoo on TV. I’m crazy about most animals and regularly watch zoo shows including the one at the Bronx Zoo. I hope they will all recover.
Sharon near Seattle: It is good to see your post.
I’ve been out shopping nearly every day. A neighbor gave me a great face mask & I feel a lot better about going in to get things, knowing the protection it provides.
Take care.

Amber - I was just told that a security guard in Quebec was run over because his job was to limit one customer per cart into a Walmart. He is in critical condition. The nuts sure do come out.
I stayed home all day an mostly stayed away from the news and took a break as mush as possible from the realities of the world. I also stayed away from looking out my window much as it snowed all day again.
Tonight I am enjoying the living room concert by the CMA.
Have a great day tomorrow everyone.

Good evening.
We had a beautiful day today. It was so wonderful to be outside and even a little warm. I mowed much of the back yard and pulled weeds. I also made potato salad this afternoon. It was really delicious. Online church this morning. A little jig saw puzzle working. Talked to my mom. Walked the dog. Just another day in quarantine, right?
For those wondering, the reason we are being asked to wear masks when we are out is that so many of us could be asymptomatic or shedding virus cells before we have symptoms. Wearing them is not to protect us, but to protect others around us. I do worry about fogging up my glasses -- that has been an issue, but I will figure it out.
Be safe and healthy.

Went for a nice walk at the beach and then foraging in our little local shop.
On the plus side, we came away with toilet paper and yeast!
On the negative side, there were more people there than I liked.
But they are the only place I've been to with an automatic hand sanitiser machine, and I like that!

It's so nice to see so many families out walking.
Quite a few people walk in our neighbourhood anyway, but since the shutdown, more have been out and about. Family groups or people in singles or pairs are allowed and encouraged to be active outside ... and they do!
We walked "with" a mom and little boy on part of our way to the beach. They were on one side of the road, and we were on the other, and the little boy was telling us that he was walking with his mommy.
And when we started our walk, we had to wait by our gate until people went by from different directions so that we could set off and maintain a decent distance.
Fortunately, it also seems as though there is less motor traffic which is really nice as well.
If you don't usually walk, I encourage you to get out for a walk around the block ... for as long as you're allowed. Explore your neighbourhoods. See what's out there. Wave to your neighbours as you go by.

Tracy- How scary glad they caught the person! I luckily didn’t take a break from the news my sister-in-law didn’t know her H-E-B store has over 10cases now from an infected person plus her neighborhood has over 16 cases (she gots kids to has been taking them to the stores with her as a widow woman). It also let my MIL know so they can figure out if they need to avoid each other a few weeks or not for safety. Also found info out for hubby buisness that effects him. Hubby y me take turns daily gleaming for the info we need so we know if they closed his job down to new rules for it (there’s new rules again..lol y a boat load of snitches the news lady said lol 😂 calling on Buisnesses even in compliance to try to get essentials closed down - got to know what’s required to pass y keep our workers safer as we learn so much more.) our city has past 3 months straight of having this virus.I isolated myself y JR over a month Doctors orders. We’re one of the major hotspots with the most cases for our state. Police now approach give warnings, close Buisnesses for too many complaints ,fines,y jail time. It’s a mess here now not only is a 1 item limit theirs arrows on the floors to x’s to stand on in the grocery stores if you don’t know where to stand you get issued a warning or fines. They even fined a family for being too close to each other at a park. Funniest part is young kids to babies can huddle under mommy in a gaggle like baby chicks cheep cheep* but Daddy has to stand 6ft away lol. Hello creepy stranger who eyes are on you walking as if a stalker lol...oops it’s just Daddy lol 😆. If not he gets a warning or fines. It’s that ridiculous now they exspensive Ect is to check websites know the new rules.
Katla- I’m surprised the Big cats at the zoo could catch it.I was assuming only pets left with a deceased body fluids could. Surprised me to see that.

Hello one and all.
I have found tragic and/or difficult situations bring out the best or the worst out in humans. There are those who are givers and those who are takers. Good versus evil; yin and yang, light versus dark. We can only hope and pray those who lean towards darkness will grow in to the light.
What am I grateful for this morning?- I am grateful to awaken to another new day.
- I am grateful for the slow, steady, overnight rain. We are in a drought situation in SFL and the rain is sorely needed.
- I am grateful for the full 8 hours of sleep I had gotten last night.
- I am grateful I will be logging in to work this morning and will continue to be employed through this time in history.
- I am grateful to work for an employer whose continuous goal has been to be cash heavy and sparingly uses loans/draws only when it makes sense, i.e. cash is earning more than the loan costs.
I am happy to report I am back at my ending February weight. As stated earlier in the month I am not going to let this thing derail everything I have been working towards. This period will end and I want to be healthier going out of it than I was going in.
Hugs and prayers to all.

And this is similar to our Gratitude Calendar that we've done in Novembers.
Coping Calendar: Keep Calm. Stay Wise. Be Kind.1. Make a plan to help you keep calm and stay in contact.
Part of my plan is to stay home more days each week. I'm getting stuff done, spending time with my husband, and avoiding the crowds.
Today I'm particularly happy because I've been able to spend the whole day at home getting a bit of extra rest, listening to classical music on ABC, and working on my uni homework while my husband has been busy doing stuff in the kitchen.
In a hour and a half or so, I'll go downstairs to exercise. We would go outside, but it has been a rainy day so we've been cozy inside.
2. Enjoy washing your hands. Remember all they do for you.
They do a lot of typing ...which reminds me that I should also wipe down my keyboard more regularly. But I do actually like washing my hands. With my hot flashes, and with exercise, my hands are often quite damp. Washing with soap dries them up a little.
Last weekend I also did my nails with 5 different pastel colours of gel nailpolish.
3. Write down 10 things you feel grateful for and why.
10 Things
1. My comfortable home with its garden and view of the bay.
2. My husband and the fact that, despite the severity of his brain injury, he has made a "remarkable recovery".
3. The support of my parents even over long distances.
4. University ... which is keeping me occupied.
5. Work ... which is keeping me occupied.
6. Cycling ... which keeps me fit.
7. Music ... which I've been listening to a lot.
8. Internet ... with which I keep connected.
9. New audio visual system which is keeping us entertained.
10. God ... who is still in control.
4. Stay hydrated, eat healthy food, and boost your immune system.
I have to drink a lot of water to keep my kidneys in good shape. I do try to eat a fairly healthy diet as well.
5. Get active. Even if you're stuck indoors, move and stretch.
Absolutely!! Every day! On that note, I'm up to 352 flights of stairs in March. Each flight is 20 stairs.
6. Contact a neighbour or friend and offer to help them.
We don't see much of our neighbours, but do kind of watch out for one.
And right now my work colleagues (and friends) and I are helping each other move home.
7. Share what you are feeling and be willing to ask for help.
What am I feeling. It's a real mix. I'm happy I'm working from home and taking uni online. But this week I've been fighting back tears from time to time. Moving home made it real.
Our lives have changed and the changes will keep coming for months ahead.
Also, the beginning of the week (Mar 22) was the 2-year anniversary of my husband's accident so ... memories.
8. Take 5 minutes to sit and breathe. Repeat regularly.
I'll do that tomorrow, I think.
It's Friday night and this week has been a little overwhelming. Last weekend I was madly working on an assignment. Submitted it on Monday + intense week at work.
A good night's sleep and I'll be able to breathe a little bit more in the morning.
9. Call a loved one to catch up and really listen to them.
I'm not good at calling people ... a little bit of a phone phobia. But I email lots!
March 30
10. Get good sleep. No screens?? Well some nights I read a paper book. I am working on getting more sleep and better sleep, but lately I've been tense at night again.
March 31
11. Notice 5 things that are beautiful in the world around me. That's easy!!- Rhody
- Roses ... and BTW, Rhody is the Greek word for Rose
- The beach
- The waves crashing against the rocks
- Green ... nature
April 1
12. Immerse yourself in a new book, TV show or podcast.
I don't do podcasts and the TV shows I watch are "old" ... but I have started a new-to-me book.
April 2
13. Respond positively to everyone you interact with.
Today has been a good day for that. We nipped out to get a few things this afternoon and talked pleasantly to the checkout people.
April 3
14. Play a game that you enjoyed when you were younger.
I haven't done this yet, but I think I will pause and play some majong shortly.
I did go cycling yesterday and that's been a game I've enjoyed for ages.
April 4
15. Make some progress on a project that matters to you.
I have done some of this, in a way. Today I've been tidying, organising and cleaning. My home office area (in the dining room) looks a lot better (not quite so cluttered) and I've cleared a spot so that Rhody can sit beside me.
I've been busy catching up on a lot of things so I can start my week a little more prepared.
April 5
16. Discover your favourite music that really lifts your spirits.
I have been listening to ABC Classic during the day most days and have been enjoying it. It's interesting, varied and relaxing.
April 6
17. Learn something new or do something creative.
Well ... my courses. I'll be working on one of them this evening.
BTW - now that I've found Mahjongg, I've been playing 2 or 3 games each evening.
Machka in Oz6 -
Good morning all. Getting ready to start my work week. Am following SuziQ's advice and trying to keep to the normal schedule. Even though my "getting dressed" is only putting on jeans and a shirt (or sometimes sweatpants), I am trying to wear something fresh everyday. I do have a bit more time (although my work commute is only about 12-15 minutes).
Enjoyed my walks over the weekend. Am getting in about an hour or so a day. A work out yesterday felt great and helped my mood. Noticed from not doing stretches etc. the muscles in the leg I worked so hard to rehab was starting to talk to me again, so that is motivation to get back to it. Happily weight is doing fine, I am sticking with my calorie counts and eating pretty nutritious meals but fitting in the snacks I like. My biggest splurge during this is diet pepsi. I had given it up for some time, but I guess it is my stay at home comfort. I only have a can every day or so but is proving to be a treat I look forward to. Since I don't drink alcohol it is my equivalent to the glass of wine or drink others enjoy.
I agree we will be at this for awhile. Masks will become our new fashion statement! I had ordered a couple of washable ones (basic black). Am wearing around the house to get used to them. Ordered a couple of cuter cloth ones on line last night. I have two staff at work who are sewers and wanted to make masks. Due to the conditions at work, and the nature of their jobs, we only have four hours a day for them of actual work, so they are making masks for staff in the other time. We deal with the public a lot (normally) and some staff go directly into homes. When we return to work each staff will be given at least one. May sound stupid, but the staff making them feel productive and it is a little way to help them with our new normal.
Off to fix breakfast and tidy some things up before starting work. Have two conference calls on the books for today and much sorting of papers--decluttering some of those work files I never seem to have the time to do.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio7 -
Good Morning
The sun is finally out after a wet start this morning, we got soaked walking the dog at 6:30 am, Leah loved it though, she was getting a bit sick of lead walking, so enjoyed a good run about.
Didn't get any gardening done yesterday, I'll try this week if the weather stays fine.
I ordered some ready meals on line for my mum, they have arrived this morning, they look okay and seem to be good nutritional value. I'm going to take them over to her and give her the brochure so if she likes them I will order some more. It's called Parsley Box, my mums friend recommended them when I called to thank her for the card. Might even try them myself
I didn't do the 'live' exercise with Joe this morning, but will watch him later.
I was watching an old episode of Miranda yesterday and it was so funny DD came downstairs to see what I was laughing at. Might try to find more episodes, I could do with a good laugh
Well better get the meals to mum and go pay her rent.
Take Care!
Love to all
Viv UK
PS My sister in law (with cancer) is feeling down, has anyone any ideas of things I could send her to help lighten her mood a little. I know she is really struggling at the moment, she had been advised to sign a DNR form in case she needs to go into hospital, but with the corona virus they are not sure they will even admit her. I'm sure this is a formality, but it has made her quite depressed. I wish I could go see her but this is not possible at the moment. Thanks in advance9 -

Nasal spray also sometimes helps with vertigo associated with sinus congestion.

His superlative declarations about your cooking, his grandparenting devotion & skills, his gameness to go along with dancing and other non-preferred activities because he loves you, his fiendish exercising, and his vulnerability…what’s not to love? Plus, he lets you cut his hair!!!
I physically ache for my grandchildren as well. It hurts my heart.

Major kudos to the Governor of Oregon for sending the ventilators to NYC. States CANNOT hoard supplies. They have to send them where they are needed and trust that other states will reciprocate. Right now the federal government is dangling essential medical supply carrots to motivate governors to grovel. It’s enraging. The states should not have to compete for essential medical supplies during a pandemic crisis.
Glad you mom is OK & hunkering down.

You have sewing skills, so maybe you could make a “nose dart” to make the top of your mask fit down on your nose better to prevent fogging. Our surgical masks have a metal strip in the top edge of the mask to make it conform to the nose. I see many people wearing surgical masks upside down, with the metal strip useless located over the chin. If you are making masks, any malleable metal strip will work. Others have mentioned paper clips and twist ties, both of which would work.

We are being rationed at work to one surgical mask which we will reuse. I will leave mine hanging in my car between work shifts. I have another one that I use for going into public that I keep in a paper bag in the car. I became enraged at Costco last week when I saw shoppers wearing N95 respirator masks. I had to rip my eyes away and self-calm. I cried when I got out to the car where my partner was waiting to help me wash off the groceries with soapy water before putting them in the car. I thought of Lisa’s post awhile back about crying when mad.
I started my new Telehealth job this week. It’s a steep learning curve, requiring up-to-date secure technology and figuring out how to document efficiently but I am learning quickly. I have fallen in love with an app called AText.

Hi Kim.
I am wondering what you would charge for two masks? I am using a bandanna right now and would like something a little more fancy/feminine. My preference would be cotton (any color) with one with dragonflies and the other with butterflies. I would also like to throw in the washer - air drying is fine.
I am not looking for a rush order, just when you can fit in and snail mail would be fine. Let me know here or you can PM me.
No pressure - if not interested just let me know. Will understand completely.1 -
