Yep. How long ago was it that I mentioned there were 13 people with COVID-19 in one of those hospitals? There are 72 now.
Two hospitals and a whole bunch of businesses are closed.

Joe got up just as I was going to bed. Patrolling before letting the dogs out he noted one of the concrete block/log corners around the garbage can had been disturbed. He looked a little closer and dashed back into the house “The bear is back” He yelled “get out of here!” but the bear budged not. Quickly fetched his pistol, shot into the air from across the parking area and the bear scampered away. Heart racing but thankful it was Mrs. Bear and not Mr. Big Kitty. Joe's outside now with the dogs, but keeping them within the fence. After daylight he'll take them over to sniff the ground around the garbage and "mark" it as their territory.

I was tired of waiting for the association to schedule tree trimming. The board is driving me nuts, but I do not want the job so I just deal with it.
Bought an extended tree trimmer and did it myself. I'll have to complete the job next weekend. My arms, abs, and back were really starting to feel it. The pole extends to 16 feet. I only needed 10. But must admit it is a workout.
First picture is of my new toy which is my Easter gift to myself and the second shows the results of my labor.

I love all the comments regarding TP brings back some memories! Items that have been in use here is the "sears and robuck catalogue", newspaper, mandarin orange wrappers, tissue paper from gifts. Yes I am speaking from experience Of course it is much softer when you rub it against itself. In those days we hadn't ever heard of recycling! **Note these items were in use when there was no indoor plumbing and our facilities consisted of an outhouse. Never flush anything but TP
Decided to roast a chicken today instead of a turkey since there will be only my Dad, sister and I. Mashed potatoes, shrimp salad, carrots and mashed turnips will round out the menu.
Happy Easter

@Heather that makes sense about the beaches being local. that must be awesome to have them to yourselves. are many people down in the summer houses? it sounded like you were not so unhappy to be staying at home. zoom can be wonderful when it works well. third eye huh? i guess you guys could do SOME of the things you would be doing on the cruise: have cocktails, even champagne, as if in a bar, playing it up a bit. i think i would do that if i were in a fun couple.
@SuziQ113 i actually saw the neighbors across the way w a ladder climbing onto 8th floor roof. i'm not sure they had anything to do up there really. i think they were just checking it out.
@Sharon, the video sounds fun.
@margaretturk i'm sorry about the ham. i think i would be upset in the same situation. it sounds like you are being wise about it and finding healthy solutions. maybe it will be funny in the future. i have found that to be true with time. a story to tell. i would probably make all the meats and give bit of each to each to make it a more sharing thing, with gravy etc, to make it more fun and stretch them as others have suggested.
@Michelle, i think if it's something really for health (like heart rate monitor, etc., to help maintain health in a way that can really help ; maybe a portable exercycle!) then the Y can offer a gift, if it's a surprise unknown gift then no. crocheted mask sounds fun but not hygenic: lots of thickness to catch virus. i think ideally one washes them after each usage so quick drying is good too. maybe it could be one's sunday mask.
@Anne that stinks about the ex, and no news from your daughter; especially at present. i hope that evolves somehow.
@Flea , nice masks.
@bwcetc wow only eating 4h a day long term! that is pretty serious. nice that you could find a way to worship at present.
@Rebecca, same, wow for eating only 4h a day!
@hippymamax12 Welcome! i think not losing quickly and easily at 50+ is common. how tall are you?
for me until about a year or two past menaupause i could stay stable or lose weight pretty quickly. my metabolism has been slow for a long time. all women in my family tend to be overweight and some are obese. my mom was very obese in the 1960s when that was quite unusual at least in our area. in the 70s she was maybe the 2nd heaviest woman in our town of 30,000. from age 33 to 53 or so i was pretty comfortable with my weight. eating and exercise seemed to balance out overall without much trouble at all. i started having food and knee issues at about age 53 or 54 and definitely can not run anymore. i go on the elliptical but it's not the same. before i could walk out the door, walk 5 minutes jog 25 minutes to park, walk 30-45 min back, and it was pleasant and easy. this made it really easy to drop a few pounds really quickly. now sometimes i have to take it easy with simple walking. PLUS metabolism has slowed just a bit more. i'm 5' 2". i don't think i could lose with 1400 c a day even with exercise. and so recently i've gained and the lockdown has not helped at all. so i think your experience is normal. i think if you are not losing and you feel you need to lose weight, you need to increase exercise or decrease calories. i know that's really low calories but if one is small, over 50 and has low metabolism, not everyone can consume the same amount of calories as is always recommended. i was on two "petites" support groups in the past and we shared about how we kept healthy balance but also the real need to eat a bit less than what is commonly recommended because of our size, age and metabolism. some are able to get 1.5 -2 or more of aerobic exercise daily and more. i really don't think my joints would take that but maybe yours will! i would find it hard time-wise too because i'm not a point in my life when i can easily cut back on other obligations --- even during lockdown. welcome welcome.
ABOUT HAIR
What about legs? i have not waxed legs in a couple of months. i don't REALLY need to since not in a couple and it hadn't been dress, free-leg season. and the virus doesn't make me feel like going bare legged 1st thing. but i would never in normal times, go too far since i did change at the gym in common changing room and didn't want to extremely long leg-haired. i'm not too worried about the hospital in case of emergency; if my long hair is enough to shock them i figure that things will be going very well. i do note the hairs on my calves which are not very thick are particularly long. it makes me laugh a little.
LAUNDRY: for about 1.5 years in my late 20s i had an apartment w no washer and i hand washed everything including sheets cause i hated going to the laundrimat. ah yes and also once for about 8 months in my 30s. i have never had a drier. i hang dry. i think clothes lasts longer that way too and it's ecological.

GRATEFUL:
- was able to be on balcony all morning with no allergy and no antihistamines
- mild, pleasant weather.
- new tiny rose, lavender, and geranium plants for balcony
- green tea in cast iron teapot.
- time to drink a pot of tea at home in the morning
- Reading "The Plague" in French. It's so beautifully written with thoughtful observations. The joy of reading a great novel.
- 1 h of meditation on balcony this morning
- relatively spacious inner feeling after meditating
- maybe sleep better when i turn off wifi at home
- health lunch with plenty of veggies
- dug up old unused curtain to cover foot rest cushion which is really ugly without cover. (not sewn-cause no sewing machine, but folded nicely around cushion and tucked under.
- next week is school vacation
- colleague finally vouched for us and (hopefully) got us back on the mailing list or at least got the direction to say we should be on the mailing list (after intentionally having taking us off). having an elected teacher not afraid to speak up vouching for us is major.
I called my younger friend for weekly call and i just cut in and spoke or asked a more pertinent question when she started going on long monologues. it worked and i felt more connected and she did too no doubt. i don't always have the wherewithal to jump in and redirect the conversation but it's more compassionate to both of us. we got into some more interesting subjects for both of us, and it was more reciprocal.
i'm going out for a walk soon. if i don't go for a walk i feel quite down and also i can feel it health-wise. as well-intentioned as i am i haven't gotten to online or home exercising. it's hard to do everything perfectly. walking outside makes me feel alive and even joyful much of the time. there's definitely guilt-tripping people for going out for walks, even though it's allowed and even if we wear masks, gloves and distance.
i prefer going out in the early morning or at least morning to have less chance of there being much virus in the air. but my favorite moment of the day at home also tends also to be the morning 1.5 h of sun on the balcony from about 8 to 9:30. and that stretched out today with drawing and meditation, then lunch then writing you guys.
wishing you health joy and courage today.

My legs are smoooooooth from my feet all the way up.
I'm in shorts or 3/4 tights just about every day with my cycling, walking and running ... or just sitting around the house feeling warm.
And I haven't had a dryer for the 11 years I've been in Australia. Dryers aren't that common in Australia. But it wasn't a big adjustment because I've been hanging most of my clothes since about 1991. I lived in an apartment with a laundry downstairs where they charged for washes and dries. I forget what the dryer charge was ... $1 maybe $2 ... but I figured that rather than dry a couple loads each week, I could save my money and just hang dry my stuff.

Friend's son who wrote the story about using chimes to calm himself down went to ER yesterday. This is his second trip to hospital. They have not tested him for COVID. All the signs says he has it. They told him to go home and just rest and do nothing at home so he can recover. His girlfriend has it as bad as he does so there is no one to take care of him or her at home. His mom my friend is 79 so she is not is a position to help him. She did tell me her son did go out sick to the store because he needed food. He has no mask. So if he did this I know others have too. I have worn my mask in a store for well over a month now and this story drove home to me how important that is to do.
I knew the numbers they throw at us about this illness is not accurate. This story explains why. They do not have enough tests just like they did not have enough masks for civilians to treat this illness properly.
When I went for a walk yesterday I wore a mask even being outside because I run into couples and groups who so not get the 6 foot distance. I still run into people who think it is funny that I insist on 6 feet. They still don't get how serious this illness is and how it is spread.
Another in my friend's building had a heart attack and his wife is not allowed to visit in the hospital because of the outbreak. If there ever was a time to try to stay healthy and develop good habits this is one of them.
Unfortunately my experience with my son taught me relying on the system to work in your best interest for your health is not always in your best interest. The system has things to offer you but it is really up to you to stand up for yourself do what you need to do to protect your own health. The system is still so full of red tape and rules that it can not always help you in the ways you need.
Because of all the stories we have shared I know many of you are already doing the best you can through this crisis and having this group is a tremendous help to me. So again thank you to all who are hear reading and sharing when they are able.

Bananas - nobody is meant to be sitting around on the seafront, so I guess the beach huts are shut up. They are discouraging sunbathing etc. Keep moving, or go home! And if you are not a local, go home!
We went out for my 5k today, but we kept away from the seafront and just ran down the main road , through a park I have never seen before and down some side streets. Then back again. It was HOT! There is no traffic, just a few empty buses going past. Streets deserted except for one or two kids on bikes. A few people in the park. I was pleased that I had got out and boosted my exercise calories. 950 total today.
DS sent a video of the kids opening their present from us - a light up globe that shows stars at night. Bea said it was "The best Easter ever!"
It would probably have been a formal night tonight on the cruise, but I'm not dressing up. Having Hairy Bikers, broccoli and a bottle of red. Bananas, we always have cocktail hour.
Glorious weather here, but it's set to change tomorrow and get much colder. Norway will be cold, windy, snowy and rainy. We were set to go on a trip to a pretty fishing village. Brrrr!

Morning Ladies
Watching TV with Alfie..
One of my dear friends just had to send her mom to the hospital. And she and her twin sister cant go..she is beside herself because she doesnt think her mom will be making it out.. I am praying hard.. Steffy had a stroke in her 50s and her daughter's have taken care of her since she could live on her own they live in a 3 family in Massachusetts..
So I'm keeping her in my thoughts..
This social isolation is getting a bit batty .but I will make it through..
Happy Easter and Passover to those who celebrate .. love ya all ladies xoxo9 -
@Machka you have warmer weather to be in shorts all year round! plus in a couple motivates one to get rid of body hair more often. (well it depends on the guy actually, sometimes). Dryers aren't that common here either.
@Margaretturk that's upsetting that he can't be tested for COVID19 after 2 trips to hospital and even more so that he's shopping with no mask (or cloth in front of face). i just read an upsetting article in nytimes (free) about a medic who says he dealt with a dozen COVID deaths in a day in nyc and none of them are even counted in the official count since the people were never tested.
this is also the case in France. Many Covid19 deaths are not counted in the tally. the final tally will be to compare the amount of deaths in a given month to an average for that month the past few years in a place.
people who don't get how serious it is now will get it eventually. probably pretty soon.
@Heather, ha ha for always cocktail hour. Jimmy kimmel suggested formal friday for folks but i couldn' be bothered. still i'd try to have a theme based cocktail or music or something to play w cruise. that said i'm not in a couple so i'm not doing that. easy to say!
I went out for my walk. i saw dark-ish (but not very dark) cloud in distance so i checked the weather and it said warm and sunny all day. less than 5 min after leaving home in light shirt (i've been over dressing these past warm days) it started to thunder then sprinkle, then rain.
after having got caught in 2 frightening thunderstorms during a 2-week hike about 3 years ago i dislike being out in thunderstorms. but it's such a bother to go in and out that i decided i would risk it and fortunately i did not get hit (it was not very loud and scary). it did rain though and most of my walk was in light to medium rain and light to medium gusty wind.
this meant much less people out - a good thing at present. but the gusty swirly wind made it so i didn't feel yet like taking off my mask out in the empty streets, the gusts could swirl up as well as down. and the little streets were TOO empty. i went back to the travelled streets. a person i know said she witnessed a woman getting mugged at end of day still in daylight (8pm, here people have dinner at 8 and sun sets around 8:30 or 9 pm) a few days ago. my neighborhood is very safe overall, but it's not a normal period. less people is risky and some people must be desperate for money, their usual sources drying up.
i bought a chocolate thing for easter but then realized the baker didn't have a mask and i felt uneasy.
i had some organic lemon sorbet at home: water, 27% lemon purée, sugar, glucose. granted that's a lot of sugar, but no gluten and no cream and lots of vitamin C for the occasional dessert.
Going out ALWAYS makes me feel tired afterwards now. i think it's psychological. the fear, the mask, the sanitizer, the distance, the shower and hair-washing once back home...
Fearful....
today with the shower it was less relaxing than usual.
i definitely prefer morning walks.
Happy Passover, Easter, and other holiday or Spring

On the hair debate - I don't do anything to down there, never have. If I am going to be wearing a swimming costume I snip the side bits that might stick out. Doesn't it itch? Or get a rash? I think DH likes me hairy. Nobody has ever complained!
For years in the 70s-80s I didn't remove underarm hair. Women's Lib. Some men like that too. However I have never been comfortable with letting my leg hair grow. I did try, but it made me miserable. I bought a 'ripper outer' and the consequence is that I have no hair on my legs at all now.
I am very easy maintenance. Do my own hair dye, do my own eyebrows, nails, toenails. I just need someone to trim three quarters of an inch off my hair every 10 weeks or so. No blow dry.
Lots of love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx5 -
Hospital underwear 🩲 theory- Yeah placental abruption everything was cut off or blood soak rotting in a bag so tossed it in the biohazard ☣️ bin. Doctor laughed at that nurse shocked, well who going to wash them? Why would I want that stinky shoes 👟 for a week in my room? I left the hospital hubby y MIL shielding me y yelling in Spanish at anyone who tried to look my way as I left in red fall caution socks y a hospital gown buns for the world to see y those period panties see through useless for hiding anything baby screaming in my arms boobs leaking. So yeah the clean 🧼 underwear idea useless. Plus Docs don’t care just as long as you bathe regularly.

It's the same here.
We can go to our local beaches ... those within our council area ... for exercise like walking or running, but that's it.
We have sat on a bench for a few minutes and no one has said anything. If someone did, I'd explain my husband's injury and that we need to take a short break before heading back.
The playground at our closest beach is closed. 2 of the 4 toilets are closed.
And only 2 people together. Unless it's a family group of family members who live together.
Police drive up and down and we saw a helicopter patrolling the other day.

The weather isn't particularly warm. We're heading into winter now so it's cooling off but I've still got a tank top and shorts at hand in case I go through a particularly hot, tingly, nauseating set of the things. And a sweat jacket for the 5 minutes after when I'm freezing.
I've also got a small USB fan which is on and off and on and off all day long.
It's so annoying but there isn't much I can do right now.
