@Machka does the specialist thinking your DH shouldn't return to work mean you will sooner than later be free to move around (no pressure for him to be available to respond to job offers or retrainings) or is that linked to something else. I think you were saying that that seemed to be the case but it may be disheartening to hear it as a prognosis.
@Suzi congratulations again. awesome success. You can definitely take college courses. My dad and his spouse started up college courses again in their retirement and it was an opening of a whole nother part of themselves i was delighted to discover and share. They lived in mass but a good hour fr boston, not in a college town but even the local college had interesting classes. my dad got into art history and did reports on warhol, and became member or city art museum, very very far from his career path or previously explored interests.
@Machka I agree with others that it would be great if you can relinquish responsabilities and be sure to avoid burnout.
@Kim i discovered some new little passages and streets in my neighborhood, i learned that in paris the earth smells more earthy at 8pm (in lockdown anyway) than at 7 am, with the moist, earthy smell rising from the ground, i (like many) learned how to give classes on zoom.
@Heather wow i love max's gratitude journal.
@Glenda, the tips i was giving were actually more for not close people who pressure to drink (rarely happens now with age, thank goodness everyone knows someone who has health issues or alcohol issues so pressure is rare for me at 56, as opposed to when i was 26), for friends i would expect them to quickly not pressure me, after 1 explaining maximum. i don't appreciate that kind of pressure.
@Lisa good point about the untested vaccine.
@Beuncommon, you don't have to read all the posts and can just jump in and skim and read when you can. I'm so sorry about your loss. it's such a hard time to lose someone.
@Sharon it's nice that your daughter can come watch a show with you. The lack of touch is hard for most people living alone. I have one friend alone, who, like Machka, is loving the confinement.

Good afternoon, all.
Work was really busy this week. I went in on four days. On Tuesday, I think, I am losing track of days, we recorded a "conferral ceremony" with just the president, provost, and the four deans -- then a skeleton media crew (3 people). It was amazing to see everyone, but I did giggle when before we recorded, the six of us were standing about 15-20 feet apart in the auditorium, waving and calling out to each other to see how we are doing. On stage, we sat 6 feet apart, and the crew wiped down the podium and mic before the next person went up to speak. They showed the ceremony yesterday morning on Facebook Live, and the editing was fabulous. I think the graduates and their families appreciated it. We will have actual commencement, Lord and Covid willing, in October.
I started feeling off on Thursday -- took a nap in the middle of the day. Rest a lot Friday evening after work. Sat on the couch and read/napped/played on my computer for most of the day on Saturday, with brief respites of pulling weeds in the garden between rain showers. This morning at about 3:00 a.m., I woke up sicker than a dog. I don't remember ever being this sick, although I am sure I have. All intestinal, severe intestinal, both endsand a very low grade fever. I am just hanging out in bed today -- eating ice chips, a little gatorade, flat coke, and dry gluten free toast. I can't imagine what/how I picked something up, but I definitely did.
Kylia -- so sorry for your loss.
Love the pictures!
Welcome to the newbies.

My husband and I are older than many of you. He has many health conditions that make him higher risk for the virus. Even though we live in a low density neighborhood, we are following the Governor's guidelines and staying home. I walk in my neighborhood where the roads are wide and there are few cars or walkers. I shop for essentials about every two weeks. My husband goes nowhere. I shop at Costco because the dogs eat their brand of food. I buy everything else at QFC except that I went to Walgeens for alcohol free mouthwash. We are fortunate that our stores seem well stocked. No haircuts or dog grooming
Today I made chicken with coconut milk and peanut butter sauce in the slow cooker. It made enough for four meals that I froze.

Flea- Sounds like you have what hubby just got over. Its the stomach flu that’s going around it’s terrible!

After running out for essentials, planting some starters, mulching, wiping down everything new and putting in away, showering and in to pjs.....
Karen, I was going to enjoy this outside but it was getting a little hot. And,, although not as breathtaking as some of the photos you've been posting this is the view from my kitchen counter.

SuziQ When I saw your post, I immediately thought of the 'View from my window' group!
I like that view of your courtyard from your kitchen counter very much!
>>>
Flea Ugh. GI stuff is miserable. Hope you rapidly recover. As careful as everyone is being, it's hard to imagine where you picked it up!

Barbie That chicken with coconut milk and peanut butter sauce sounds fabulous. Do you have a recipe you would share?

Hi Gals,
Lisa – thanks for the ideas… I did laugh out loud at open the windows and sing..my singing voice is so bad!! Levi even asks to go out or growls at me when I sing. If the neighbors heard I would be even more alone.
BeUncommon – we are a chatty group that will welcome you with open arms. So sad to hear about your Dad. The key we have all found is to find a combination of eating and activity that you can do long term and then be committed. But we are all human and opps happens, forgive yourself and start again.
Rita – the yellow plant is Scotch Broom and in CA it is a very invasive plant that pushes out many of our native plants, I have spent many hours digging it out of park land.
Kim from N. California

The "viral" study about running or cycling outside was mainly about being directly behind a runner or cyclist ... not beside. If you see a runner coming toward you, just step away and let them by.
https://www.wired.com/story/are-running-or-cycling-actually-risks-for-spreading-covid-19/
Meanwhile ... go outside and get as much exercise as you can!
Machka in Oz3 -
@Flea and @Amber STOMACH BUG AND COVID not to be alarmist but a "stomach flu" type symptom and low grade fever can be symptoms of COVID. I had what seemed like a 36 hour fever and stomach flu about 3 weeks ago and did an online consultation and the GP said that can be a symptom and to be aware, in case of great difficulty breathing that might arise over next 10 days. Like you guys i was baffled as to how i had gotten it, as careful and distant as we are. The GP said it could have come during food shopping, despite precautions.5

Oh my!! How did May get here already??? Thank you, Barbie, for keeping us going. I log in and am still in April and there are 8 pages of May! “Flexible” could not have been better chosen for this year!! Who would have thought back in January that we would be living this way in May?? I hope everyone is doing okay!! I will try to catch up soon.
Glenda I like your idea of dancing off the pounds! I am trying to do that with my granddaughter!
Amber Love the pictures…especially JR wrapped up like an infant. He looks so happy!
Margaret Nice you could get a safe cut from a professional. Our hair is getting too long to look okay. I will end up with a mullet soon from snipping away at around my face!
Sue Riley is so adorable in the picture! What a teeny little thing! Love it!
SuzyQ Love the cat on your keypad! Congratulations on reaching goal! I miss my 10s…got there and went back to 12s until I shed the Covid weight adjustment…
Heather Not gaining is definitely a WIN! I wish I were there. Still impressed with your interactions with the grands! I think all you and DH do for those children is so special! I am so tuned in to trying to make special memories with our grandbaby and feeling sad that I am not involved enough with the children in Florida!
Lanette Outdoor love making day?? I think those days are over unless we are off camping somewhere!
Tracey I hate that they through the quick opening at you. That just causes a lot of extra stress for everyone and so much confusion! Hopefully, people visiting will be careful knowing everyone is in the same danger!
Michele So glad you finally saw your little one! Even if only on Skype. I feel much closer to my FL grands when we skype…just helps feel a little closer than miles and miles!
Janet Oh…little Lydia Lucille…SO Precious!!
Please stay safe and healthy! Hugs to All! Luci in WNC3 -

Shocked and saddened Friday to learn one of our dance instructors died from a sudden, brutal, painful cancer. Had only known she was having some back pain back in January so asked another instructor to take the evening class while she continued with the morning. We’d been tentatively scheduled to zoom dance but no one’s heart was in it. Some of the gals are meeting at the park and dancing on the basketball courts where they can easily keep 6+ feet distance. None really like the zoom but it’s better than nothing, especially for those of us who are avoiding any non-family gatherings outside the home. Saturday it poured down rain all day, perfectly suiting my mood.
SuziQ “…and he promptly went back to bed.” Yes. While I’m sweeping up the glass from the door and sobbing with relief. Brothers from another mother. Con VERY grats on size 10. Hooray! Logistics and Physical Distribution Management=NOT boring!
Karen in VA thanks for the story. Great perspective shifter.
Janetr congratulations on lovely little Lydia Lucille!
Welcome back @AZTeri2016 what a harrowing experience, glad you made it home safely and are feeling better.
Welcome @bertiebassett127 and @DawnePhillips!
Karen in VA Josephina Ballerina in pink wig, golden slacks, lacy T and cartoon socks.
Kylia so grateful your husband and you were able to spend time with your MIL before she passed. ((hugs))
Amber your new “do” looks great!
Glenda Does your friend want your company or your enabling? If you choose to drink something AF, does she resent it? What Amber said. From 24 to 16 jeans, great job!
Kim I’m surprised at how much I was spending on gas going into town two and sometimes three times a day. When the dancing, exercise and dog group classes are able to meet, I’m going to be much stricter about one trip per day max. As for missing physical contact, even though I don’t live alone, Joe is not “huggy” and so I have to make do with a pillow.
Only through pg 7 but getting sleepy.
Lighter, lovelies!

Yesterday we went shopping for a fuchsia & found one that we like. We hung it in a good spot and are enjoying it. Today we finished setting up our drip water system. It takes care of fuchsias, & the parsley & chives that live in pots beside the walkway. I plan to plant bush beans soon. I also spent time riding my recumbent tryke in the garage. DH rode with me the other day but wasn’t feeling like riding trykes with me today. Stay healthy! ❤️⭐️❤️⭐️❤️2

SuziQ, the road less travelled - ROFLMAO!!
Rita, neat lizard! I was also thinking that the yellow flowers were scotch broom, thank you Kim for confirming that. It is very invasive here on Vancouver Island as well and there are usually "broom bashing" parties in the spring to try and get rid of it from some areas.
Rebecca, Athena enjoying her spaghett! lol
Tonya, so very sorry for the loss of your dad. Your daughter is beautiful! Stop by often, we are a chatty bunch! Please don't feel you need to comment on every post either, you would never get away from the computer! lol
Took my life in my hands today and went out in search of sustenance! Yup, that's right, went grocery shopping. Monday would have been two full weeks without setting foot in a store and that was originally the plan, but now some stuff is happening at home Monday morning and I didn't want to feel rushed, so......Things went well, both stores that I went to were fairly busy, but people really do seem to be respecting the social distancing, or at least making an honest effort. I bought most stuff at one store, but they don't really have meat the way I want it. The steaks they have are HUGE! and they just don't have the variety I apparently want. Anyway, that's why I went to two stores, the second one was primarily meat. I bought a couple steaks that I would normally never buy as they are just stupid expensive (rib eye steaks). They are SO tender, but everything comes with a price. As I said I would normally never buy them, but I decided that if I can't have a massage, see my chiropractor, get my nails or hair done, or get electrolysis done that I needed a treat, so pricey steaks it is! I also bought some black tiger prawns, so we had garlic prawns for dinner. Sauteed in garlic butter, with garlic bread and caesar salad. No vampires in our house tonite! lol I was also very excited to find the green salad lettuce that I like! Sounds silly I know, but I don't care for iceburg anymore but I had been able to buy some a few years ago billed as Artisan medley or something like that. Four different types of lettuce, usually two green and two red, at least one was always a frisee, (usually two, one in each color) and I'm not sure what they other two were, but once again usually one in each color. They kept well, even after cutting but while it was plentiful for a few years, lately it's been really hard to find. Today I found some! Only 3 heads, but very reasonably priced too, so that's all good! Looking forward to eating it! I cut some up earlier so it's ready to go for tomorrow. Will have to hard boil some eggs to have with it!
Sorry for the novel! Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Welcome Tonya condolences on the recent loss of your father, I lost mine in June last year, he had leukaemia, but at least he was at home and I could see him every day. I honestly don't know what it would be like if he was ill now. My heart goes out to all those who are unable to be with loved ones in their final hours. Glad you have found a plan that is working for you.
I tried to get an online delivery from Tesco but they are fully booked for the next few weeks. I feel as if I am pushing my luck if I keep going to the larger supermarkets. There have been 315 confirmed cases in York, and I don't want to be the one to add to that figure. Thankfully there are a few local shops so I won't starve
Time to get the washing started, it's a bit chilly here today, looks like rain too, so I'll have to put the clothes in the dryer. Mondays are a busy day for me, catching up on things, gone back to Fly Lady, this week is Zone 2, the Kitchen, but since the revamp I've managed to keep it under control and reasonably organised Now if only I could get the rest of the house as organised
Take care everyone

Viv and Tonya I'm sorry both of you have lost your dads - Tonya recently & Viv a year ago.
I miss my dad. We had a good relationship, and I have some special memories of time spent together in the mornings as the only two early risers in the family - breakfasts at the bakery with all the old codgers in town at 6am, a couple of glorious water-skiing ventures on a glassy lake shortly after sunrise, chitchats in the kitchen while everyone else slept in. He was a good dad to me. I feel fortunate. I know some others here had much more complicated - even abusive - relationships with their dads.
Rambling memories of Dad:My dad, a doctor, was a good role model to me for the most part, and he treated me well except for a period of a few weeks early in 1968 when he foolishly listened to untrue gossip in town that all the girls in my 8th grade class had loss their virginity. He went ballistic for awhile. It concerned him, as a doctor in our little town, whenever he had to do prenatal care on one of the town's teenagers. I suppose he was trying to figure out where he would send me for prenatal care if I became pregnant, because obviously it would be inappropriate for him to be my doctor, and he wouldn't have wanted his partner to do it, because he still might end up being on call for the delivery.
I didn't think of all of this at the time, of course, but as an adult I understand that he was driven by far more than having a pregnant teenage daughter, as one of only two doctors in a small town. (I would have had to drive at least 30 miles to another town for care.) After weeks of this nonsense, I (still a virgin), finally quit defending myself & my classmates, and told him he would simply have to decide who he was going to believe, and then self-righteously suggested that he do a pelvic exam on each of us to check to see if our hymens were intact. I was a bit of a smart-mouth. After awhile, when none of us turned up pregnant, he told me he had decided he believed me. He did not apologize, but it was okay, and life went on.
Later that spring, I was 8th-grade valedictorian, and I gave a very good speech that I wrote myself, and I think he was proud of me. It was hard to tell. I think he was a bit stunned by how womanly I looked that night. I know my mom was proud. Mom and I found a beautiful, pale green, very light-weight brocade dress, and she did my hair and make-up, and I looked spectacular. Very grown up. I got to wear slight high heels for the very first time, and some make-up, and I carried it off. I hate high heels and make-up now, but I felt amazing then. It was a very important rite of passage.
I did not lose my virginity until I was 17. Dad and I had a discussion about sex when I was 18, just before I married my high school sweetheart Rick (now ex-, and GrandPa to our 2 oldest grandchildren). It was very different from the ranting and raving of 4 years prior. It may seem an odd notion to discuss sex with your dad, especially to those whose fathers abused them, but it did not seem weird to me. Maybe a wee bit uncomfortable, but not enough to stop me from asking all kinds of questions. I was no longer a virgin, but not very experienced yet, and he was calm, factual, and forthcoming. He chose to be clinical with his answers, as if I were his patient, and it worked for me. Odd random fact: My dad delivered my ex-husband, who promptly peed in my dad's face.
We talked about lots of other things, too, through the years: school subjects (especially math and science), books, horses, 4-H, the Denver Stock Show, coronet- and baritone-playing, poverty, my allowance needs as a teenager ($5 a month wasn't cutting it any more), Handel's Messiah, Jazz, Souza Marches, and Opera, water skiing, my albino bunny rabbit's hutch, Siamese kitties, stray kitties, exercising, Santa Claus, and so much more. Not so much about college, careers, finance, cars and insurance, as he thought those topics were more appropriate for my brothers, and that my sister and I would marry some nice boy who would take care of that stuff.
Some other time I will tell you all about my teenage conversations with Dad about euthanasia and assisted suicide.
>>>
I got through my 3 super-long work days intact. I work just 4 hours today. I received my new earbud/microphone from Amazon yesterday, so I am anxious to try it out today. Sometimes I get annoying audio feedback, so we'll see if it eliminates that problem.

SuziQ: Losing weight has been much easier than it was when I was younger, and the increased health and fitness is a great inducement to keep it off.
@Machka9 So relieved time see you posting again. It’s understandable that you needed some time out, with all that you undertake. I empathise with your desire to retire, although I would imagine you would be just as busy! It’s just the way you are. And I’m in no hurry to get out of lockdown, but then I’m not dependant in working for an income. But as you say, it would be wonderful if people were able to work in a more conducive way. I know my family have found working from their respective homes much more pleasant.

Morning, afternoon and evening all, and a hope for a happy Monday in front or just behind you, whichever it may be.
Rebecca - oh my stars and whiskers, those pictures of Athena are the best ever! Love her little face all covered in spaghetti sauce, and playing with the noodles.
Kim - yeah, I figured those hints were a tad floofy! But, one never knows what will help, now do we.
Am getting into a pleasant routine, with the elliptical on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and the rower on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday - and Sunday a day of rest. I know routines are normal for other people, but I've never been particularly good at establishing them--I just wander around and poke at them, mostly, to see what falls out. It's interesting to develop them after all these years. I'll be interested to see how long this lasts.
Feel like I'm closing in on getting the calorie levels under control - just dropping my intake down each week until I get to where I need to be. I just tracked my calories the first week without changing my intake, and was somewhere in the 3,000 range each day. Last week, I just tried to be under that, and made it all but one day. This week, it will be 2,500 max, next week 2,000. Then I'll drop 100 daily calories each week until I'm down to 1,200 or so, which is sustainable, and it's where weight loss is steady and reasonable.
I have time, I don't want my body to jump into famine mode, where it's a constant struggle, just easing into it. I didn't put this on quickly, I don't have to take it off quickly. I've got time. Yeah, I'm talking to myself more than y'all. I have been so all or nothing all my life, it's hard not to just try to drop to the 1,200 without the lead-in. But I have time.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR6 -
