It isn't happening. Just got an email from the RD, who had a phone call from the US Forest Service, and it is going to have to be postponed. The trails are open for all of us to run if we want, they just are not going to allow it to be an official event.4 -

@bearly63 Yeah. Dad is doing great at 88. It was kind of sad to see how quickly he got tired yesterday, but he is still going strong. They planted some garden (used the tiller) and mowed their lawn today. Mom's 84. I hope I have their good genes.

I mowed my lawn today. Good news is that all of my equipment worked, including the walk-behind DR. So, I didn't have to use the little push mower for all of it. That was almost 2 hours of cross training. I still had some energy left and it was really nice out - upper 70°Fs, but a nice cool breeze. So, I decided to go for a run. The plan called for a Recovery Run, I assume to recover from the Hill Repeats I did NOT do yesterday. But, that seemed like a more sane plan than hill repeats. I did laps on the driveway for 2.25 miles, easy pace, walking up the big hill every time. I called it recovering from the mowing I had just finished. LOL No intentional walking, as I was already warmed up and just strolled to cool down.

@rheddmobile - way to get that race done despite the heat and humidity! Your dinner from your favorite place sounds amazing! I am glad he is able to continue in business. Hopefully lots of people are supporting him with take out!
@T1DCarnivoreRunner - sorry your stomach is giving you fits, I hate when that happens. Hope you can still get some good running in even though the race was cancelled.
@quilteryoyo - mowing the lawn is a lot of work, push mower or not. Great workout and getting in a little run too!
I didn't run much this week but I still managed to blow past my low goal for the month. I am going to up it and go for 75 with a stretch goal of 80. We'll see next week if that will be realistic or not.

@quilteryoyo a recovery run is always a good choice, even if you think you don't have anything to recover from. Mowing is hard work though, so perfectly good justification.

I think I have whiplash from the sudden transition from winter to summer. Just yesterday I was saying how tired I was of being cold. Today I wanted to take that back. It was only about 75 degrees, but I'm definitely not used to it and it was pretty humid! Thunderstorms were coming in for the afternoon, so went to get a trail run in around 12:30 to hopefully beat that. Which we did, but I was kind of wishing it would rain. I haven't run on these trails before but have hiked and cross-country skied there. There was a lot of mud and a lot of hills. The main trail has a 10 mile loop which (fortunately) we didn't have time to do today, so we did a shortcut version and then a couple of loops of a 1-mile trail to finish up to 5.
During most of the run I felt like compared to the two people I was with that I was so slow and sucking wind, and I was fairly down and discouraged. Like I have no business being signed up for the really hard Spartan races I am signed up for this summer and fall (if they happen). Especially because the heat was killing me, but it was not THAT hot, how am I going to handle it? But despite all the self doubt, I finished all the same and actually felt more OK about my effort at the end. Each of the three times we came out of the trails back to the lodge area we went through an archway, so I couldn't resist giving it a kick for the last bit and through the finish line all three times. Which also include stomping through some major mud instead of carefully navigating around it. That part was fun and a good test of my newish Saloman Speedcross shoes that I was just saying I hadn't tried out much. I liked them.
So overall, it was hot, hard, discouraging, and yet fun. On the way home I felt like my efforts deserved a treat. As I passed by a little walk-up ice cream stand I saw by some miracle it wasn't very busy so I whipped into the lot and got in the social distancing line. I had a snickers flurry (like a Dairy Queen blizzard) and enjoyed the heck out of it. It felt even more like the first day of summer!
It hadn't started to rain yet so I took Stella out for a walk when I got home. Of course time ran out and we got POURED on for the last 1/2 mile. It was laughable how hard it started to rain and poor Stella and I broke into a jog and ran through what seemed like a river in the street. A neighbor on their porch sweetly offered an umbrella but it was truly beyond any efforts to not get soaked. Again, terrible but kind of fun.8 -

@katharmonic It was not the RD's decision. It sounds like everyone was good with it until someone in the national USFS got wind of it and put a stop to it.

Hey all.
Have just skimmed post. So tired.
I did 26k/16m today. It went really well! I was well fueled, I was dressed perfectly for the run - helps that it was temporate, so not too cold and not too warm. It wasn't too busy on my track, just perfect.pic taken at about the 4k mark - hence grin lol. Mountain really put on a show today!
My pace was all over the place. I ended up averaging 6:23 min/k so still a bit on the too fast side.
I definitely noticed an improvement, I didn't start feeling that "this is starting to hurt" point till around 22km (19 on my last run) so training is paying off. Oh and its been a few hrs and the legs definitely aren't as achey as last week! Yay gains.
Cutback week this week! Yay. Definitely can see why you don't build every week lol.
Afterwards we took the girls to that diner for lunch now all the restaurants are open. Had a WONDERFUL lunch - eggs benedict with a piece of southern fried chicken, and a chocolate milkshake. So so good. Now I'm so full I don't even want to see food lol.7 -

@Avidkeo - seems like you are in such a great groove with your running right now. You are smashing this marathon training! @bearly63 - I do that with my shoes! Have been trying to find models with reinforcement rather than just mesh/knit over the toe area. I will have to look up phalanges now!
@katharmonic - careful what you wish for with the rain, hey?! And I laughed when I read your question to @Tramboman because this very morning I noticed the 7k thing and wondered the same!!
A slightly longer run for me today but I’m pleased it was still under 11min mile average pace. I’m now well over my halfway target halfway through the month (how is it mid May already??)

My DD is gearing up for Anatomy class and I was showing her some resources I had, a virtual and interactive body map and was showing her head/face bones-including the zygomatic bone. she said "WHAT?, we have a bone called the zygomatic? that's nuts". Not running related, unless you face plant. I thought sphenoid was way more fun to say than zygomatic. or cuboid, talus, acromion and coracoid process, or xiphoid. silly bones.4 -
@katharmonic You really did splash through the mud, didn't you?! Sorry your run sort of sucked, but glad it was sort of fun too. Getting caught in the rain like that can be fun. Last time it happened to me I started singing and dancing. Might as well make the best of it.
@Avidkeo Yeah for the good, long run! That looks like a wonderful place to run. The mountain is gorgeous. And having a lunch with family is always nice. I heard they re-opened NZ. How's that going?

I really enjoy reading everybody's posts, and wanted to note that I think of tons of interesting things to post about during my runs. But by the time I get back, that information has evaporated.

Got in a run yesterday, but I’m having some metatarsal pain and arthritis in my left toes today, so I just did an easy walk this morning before it got too hot.
Right at 31 miles of my planned 50 for the month.7 -

Ohh-gle my new shoes. Dh entered me I a contest to purchase these “limited” On Cloud Cloudnova’s. I think they’ll make a fine running shoe in a year, or two. They’ve changed up the bottoms a bit, and these don’t have the pods. Also seem to be a stability shoe. Diggin’ ‘em. ETA.. oh they aren’t a running shoe... cool. Plan called for an easy 8 miles today. I have mastered running slow, but this run was NOT easy. It was hot (75 F) and humid when I started out. (80F when I finished) I had decided to run half in the neighbor's pasture field and the other half with laps on the driveway because I thought it would be shady and cooler than running on the road. The pasture was not as shady as expected, but I went ahead and did most of the first 4 miles there. I finished with driveway laps...stopping to get a drink and eat a gummy bear every two miles. The last 3 miles were brutal. I walked a lot. I was trying to keep my HR below 150, but that went out the window. So, I tried keeping it below 160. It would spike to 170 and above, even though I was running really slowly. When it did, I would walk until it slowed down. I was afraid I might be getting overheated and didn't want to have a heat stroke on my driveway. Anyway, it was slow (14:38/mile). It was hard. It wasn't pretty. But it's done!

Pretty nice day here, started cool and cloudy and then more sun this afternoon and stayed in the low 60s. Much cooler than yesterday's pre-storm heat, and the kind of spring day we have been waiting for. I started the day by doing stair repeats at the park with a weighted pack. About 42 minutes of that for 7 trips down and up. My legs were wobbly as usual when we finished. I got home and changed and refueled a little and took Stella out for a 4 mile hike. She really enjoyed the ideal pleasant weather and being allowed to wander a bit without me holding her leash.
I took the best nap and thoroughly enjoyed a rare day where I did no work and did not even open my email. I very much did not want to run, but I dragged myself out finally around 4 pm and headed to the parking lot near the YMCA and a grocery store. I used to be a member of the Y and we would do running groups in the parking lot around there, so I tooled around the old haunts to get in a shortish run before getting groceries. I sadly forgot my phone at home, which was a bummer for many reasons but meant I had only my own thoughts to occupy me. I don't even know what I thought about though, so there was not much going on up there other than I'd really like to be done now so I can get my groceries and go home. And eventually that is what I did.
I can't believe I've already topped 100 miles for the month.6 -
@katharmonic My driveway is actually a quarter of a mile long. The laps I do are only about half way, because the lower part is a huge hill. So, a lap is around 0.3 miles - just a tad over 3 laps makes a mile. There are hills on the part I do run. Today, my elevation gain was 1,526 feet. Sounds like you had another day where you make the rest of us look like slackers - well, me at least. That stair workout and then hike and run! You're a beast.
Shoe rant: Went to Brooks running to try to order some new Adrenaline's. The don't have my size in the GTS 20's! Boo. Found one pair of the GTS 19s in my size. And they were on sale - $50 off. Yeah! Go to order them and it won't take my credit information....says it is incorrect. I did get a new credit card that I hadn't activated yet, but I thought maybe that was it. So, I called to activate it and tried again, putting the new information in. Nope. It still won't take it. So, I try to call Brooks to see if they can help, as they say that is the only pair they have left and I don't want to lose them. The recording says "We are currently closed. Our hours are 8 - 5 PST." It's 7:10 at my house, which means it's only 4:10 PST! Geeze. Not my day. I just gave up, so probably will not get those shoes tomorrow. I'm bummed and frustrated!
