@Camaramandy648 It's genetic. There's a gene for it. Not everyone that has the gene gets celiac disease though. A lot of nordic, Italian and Irish people have it. They have theories about what triggers the gene but nothing for sure. 🤷🏼♀️0

I walked outside for my run and thought it almost felt cool. Looked at my phone. 81! Wow! That is cooler!
I was crabby when I woke up (neighbors dog wss barking off and on all night) so I didn't even want to run. I went out and said I only have to do the 20 minutes my plan requires. I can skip the optional extra 15 minutes.
Well, as I was running I kept going back and forth. I should do the extra because I want to get better. I should just call it because I'm tired and annoyed. No, I should do it. Would GR Mom stop? (I was listening to the Golden Ratio podcast lol) No, this running thing sucks. I should stop.
Well, I ended up doing the extra 15 minutes. And am glad I did. 3.8 total today.
9.6/80 or something8 -
Good job @RunsOnEspresso. I have exactly those kinds of conversations with myself all the time. Great work and it always feels good when you are done.

Pretty low mileage again today - I'm calling this a recovery week. I passed on going an early morning run that I'd have to drive 30 minutes to get to the trail, and slept in a little more. I took Stella out and decided to try to run some during our walk. We hit the trails where I know there are few people and I can usually drop her leash and let her trot along on her own beside me (or behind, as she lags). It was slow going and tons of stopping and starting but we covered 4.5 miles total and 2.5 was "running". I let her choose direction most of the time when we got to trail intersections because she goes much more quickly if she thinks she's in charge

Another low stress run today. I need to add speed and tempo work soon. Possibly Tomorrow or it will have to wait for next week.6 -

Heh, that's interesting! We are portuguese and native american. The remainder is a mix. I just try to stay away from the doctor, so when I know something ails the women in my family and I start showing symptoms of the same, I do what they do until that stops working (and I need surgery), etc.
So far now troubles at work today. Here's to hoping this trend continues.
Really looking forward to tomorrow's run in the new shoes, but I'm sure when I wake up I'll feel much like you did this morning, @RunsOnEspresso
@katharmonic August is starting out low and slow for me too - I think that will change after the Vertigo challenge next week - I'll be exhausted and recovering again soon, convincing myself that I'm never running again
Good job, @deraffemikey06 ! You're killing it!2 -
8/1 17.17 miles (was that poison ivy?)
8/2 26.29 miles, 825 Days on the run (looks like poison ivy)
8/3 17.01 miles (wow! It was poison ivy!)
8/4 15.22 miles (God Help Me! It is poison ivy!)
8/5 13.37 miles (Poison ivy is trying to kill me)
8/6 13.49 miles (Poison ivy really itches and is painful!)
8/7 18.14 miles, 830 Days on the run (In case you did not notice, I came in contact with poison ivy, both legs, both arms, and my stomach)
Doing my best not to have a mental and emotional meltdown...12 -

Looking forward to your shoe review, they are a really good-looking shoe but several reviewers have said the narrow heel feels unstable. Which seems odd to me since when I am trail running on uneven ground I spend most of my time on my toes, the heels don’t really figure into stability for me I don’t think.1 -
@AlphaHowls Owie, hope your poison ivy clears up soon!
I got 5k again today. That makes 4 days of one day on, one day off, which is an improvement from last month when I was like, one day on, one day limping around the house, one day when I probably shouldn’t risk it, one day on. My knee does not feel perfect and I am having to work hard on my arm swing to keep my gait even. My husband keeps reminding me whenever he hears my feet start to hit unevenly. But so far knock on wood, much better.
Weather was a little cooler and drier, the last few days have been lovely. Tomorrow is supposed to be back to our usual sodden August heat. We saw a cicada emerging from the shell! I have seen grown cicadas and empty shells stuck to trees, but never managed to see one at the exact moment of emerging. Of course did not think to take a photo. This one had fallen out of a tree into the street, which was why we noticed him, thinking he was just a normal nymph. Picked him up and stuck him back on an oak tree. Husband says, “Is he hurt? He’s all goopy.” Looked closer and noticed he was splitting down the back and although his legs were still encased his head and eyes were moving around separately inside the shell. When we came by the tree on our way back, his shell was there and he was gone!7 -
@rheddmobile I have never seen a cicada emerge from his shell. I actually saw a dead cicada yesterday on the sidewalk during my run and was thinking about how often we used to find the empty shells when I was a kid and how even though I still see the occasional cicada (and hear them a lot) I can't remember the last time I saw an empty shell.
@AlphaHowls So sorry about the poison ivy. That does not sound fun. Hope it clears up soon.2 -
@rheddmobile I was thinking that too! One the phrases I post all the time in my instagram stories is "Running is dancing is running is dancing is running..." Especially on trails. That's part of why I love them. Just bouncing around from incline to descent to tree root to big rock to little rock to "Ohhh better not fall that way...." I've never really considered my heels... I guess I'll find out tomorrow!
@AlphaHowls I am so sorry! I have doctored both my kids through awful poison ivy! I've never gotten it. I'm convinced that I am immune. I've been right in it and never had it. But I'm sorry you are experiencing it! One thing I do for my kids - and you probably already know about these things - is basically give them a bath in food. Whole milk, oatmeal, baking soda, and honey. It seems to really help.
@rheddmobile that is awesome about the cicada!

@AlphaHowls Hopefully the poison ivy goes away quickly.
Great runs so far this month. Crazy to think you could run so many miles already this month. Great job!!1 -
Well I did it....bought a used Nordictrack treadmill from a guy off Facebook. It was in very good condition, and was a very good price, so I loaded it in my truck and now we'll see how much it gets used. With this August heat, I'm thinking quite a bit10

I understand they make a great place to hang laundry from.4 -

Way yuck. I spent an entire summer once covered in the stuff as I was battling to remove it from my backyard. Not pleasant!

I am behind, as usual and will come back to catch up but saw this article and thought of @katharmonic and nose breathing/running with a mouthful of water.0
-
Run felt good until nearing the end. Florida summer heat is no bueno when you're heat/sun sensitive.4 -
@AlphaHowls Hope you make a speedy recovery.1

@Tramboman
"Don't know if they actually hurt or if I dreamed they were hurting. Strange..." I have done similar things in the past. Often my dreams are so vivid, I'm sure they've actually happened when I first wake up, then I realize it had to be a dream.
@RunsOnEspresso
Way to hang in there and go for a longer run when you didn't really feel like it.
@katharmonic
Your dog sounds like mine. She'll do most anything if you let her think she is in charge. LOL
@AlphaHowls
Sorry about the poison ivy? It really does itch and is annoying. I hope you are able to get some sleep, since it sounds like you have a lot. Hope it goes away soon.
@rheddmobile
Glad your knee is doing better!
@Scott6255
Yeah for finding a treadmill at a good price. Hope it works out for you. I love having mine.
Mom, Dad, and I finished cleaning up the trees we cut yesterday and cut a couple more that were leaning onto my house. I didn't run this morning because, when doing the trees yesterday, the log chain's hook swung down and hit me on the shin, right below the knee. It hurt, but not too bad, and I had forgotten all about it happening until later in the day my leg started hurting and I was thinking I was getting shin splints and wondering why. Then I remembered the incident. Still couldn't see anything, but it hurt with every step I took the rest of the day. This morning, it mostly hurt when I put pressure on it when standing up. Anyway, I decided it would be prudent to take the day off. It's much better tonight, so think I made a good choice. I'm planning to get up early in the morning and go for a 6 mile run.5
