Just got back from Food Lion. I had to sit thru video upon video upon video. I was there probably about 4 hours. I know that some of it was for the lawyers, things like workplace harassment, etc. I just blew thru the stuff that was covered in the Serv Safe course, some things were covered in the CPR course. But I also realize that they have to address the 17 and 18year olds who haven’t had CPR or the Serv Safe course. Came home and hurried up to get dinner ready. Went to WalMart and realized that I’d left my phone at home. Well, I want to make gazpacho so I’ll probably have to stop at the WalMart tomorrow to get the veges, I’ll also look for the bread flour. Hope they have it. I’ll check online to see if it’s in stock
Margaret – what a lovely thought, to have the quilt on top of the casket. I’d never have thought of something like that. Truly lovely. Yes, animals can sense our feelings and know exactly what to do to make us feel better
Katla – knowing Vince, we’ll be getting the Christmas decorations (at least for inside the house) out next month!
Faye – I don’t blame you one bit for moving. What a horrible experience! That shirt looks like it would be you to a “t”
Beth in Buffalo – WOW! I can totally understand how livid you must be about your son. And to top it off, not being able to be with him…that s***s There’s a special place in heaven for you
Carol GA – my left ear kept feeling blocked so I would clean it out thinking that it was ear wax buildup. Turns out it was a tumor. But it is slow growing and noncancerous, so that’s good. Hope you get a good answer and soon
Faye – I read where this year is the worst year for allergies. Why not? This year seems to have brought everything else.

Thanks ladies for the compliments on my salad. I made some refrigerator pickles and boy they're strong. A bit too much vinegar! I love the taste of beets though. I bought those. I think my taste buds love combinations. So biting a fork full of blue cheese, spinach, and a pickled beet. I just love it. Today I am going to use some homemade spaghetti sauce I made on my little pizzas. Then sauteed kielbasa sausage slices and sweet onions. Putting a spoonful of my olive brushcetta sauce because its just yummy. Maybe dice some spinach leaves too. Then mozzarella shredded cheese on top. Its just heaven on my firmed up street taco tortillas.💖
My last week's version:
I used diced tomatoes instead of spaghetti sauce though.
Well I have about 5 pen pals that need to be written to, but I have no gumption to write them just now. I do tend to let the letters I receive "marinate" on my desk a bit. I don't want to seem too desperate for communication. Never do I write the same day I get them. That's just ludicrous!😁to
NOST4A2 series on AMC channel is so darn exciting! Its scary, and so unsettling! Its on Sundays at 10 pm.... If you like scary stuff!
Card is up with the others from past birthdays. Looks nice.
The recent card is the top one, happy birthday written in sushi.💖

have you tried using seasoned rice vinegar and a splash of mirin in your pickles? I have been using that in my cucumbers(sometimes add a drizzle of sesame oil and furikake right before we eat). The rice vinegar is so much more mild. Regular white vinegar tends to be too strong for me, actually feels like a mild asthma attack after eating something with too much vinegar. I am surprised at how much my husband and mother in law like them this way- a little different than mom made but close(she only used white vinegar, once in a while red wine vinegar)
I will be making more tonight as the cucumbers are still producing nicely.
Love the idea of pen pals. I used to love writing real letters to friends and wait to hear back- long before emails were thought of
Debbie
I will try that next batch, thanks!

Beth You must be utterly depleted. ((Hugs)) Will your son have an aide at your house?
Margaret Everything at the gravesite is beautiful. The flowers/garden/quilt all so lovely. Your dog walk reminds me of the prairie I was raised on in Nebraska. I experienced a wave of nostalgia.

Katla - I really want to try making the starter from scratch. You know me, the person who likes to make things from scratch. Now if it doesn't work out the first time, I will definitely get the starter from BRMill. But first I think I want to try it on my own.

Oh my word.. we had a HOA meeting in the lobby,no social distancing and most of these people are in there 70s etc...
It was a Sh-t show....we each have to pay 800.00 to fix the elevator when they have over 100,000 in reserves ,they dont want use that in case the other elevator goes...oh and we will need a new roof in a few yrs and that will be 250,000...
I dont know if im all that happy with condo life..5 -
My birthday is on Friday and I received a gift from a close friend. She meant well, but doesn't know how serious my food sensitivities are. She managed to hit all of them with a fancy food gift. I guess she thought it would be a "fun cheat." So I sent my son off with the items I cannot eat to share with his girlfriend, who has a sweet tooth, and he kindly offered to find substitutes in the spirit of the original gift. So, things worked out as well as they could have. It is lucky for those of us with food sensitivities can even find such good substitutes these days! 🍬4

Okie Woman: You are right. I miss counted months. I’ll be bringing the tree into the garage just after Thanksgiving. It will acclimatize to the warmer environment of the garage for a week or more so that it will be able to adjust to the even warmer temperature in the living room. We’ll bring it inside the house and decorate it in December. By then we’ll already have put up many of our treasured holiday ornaments from years gone by.
Carol in GA: I hope you get good and helpful information from your MRI.
Pip: Nice bike stand. Are you going to get one, too? :flowerforyou:
Michele: Good luck with your sourdough experiment. Being creative and having fun are great things.
Allie: I hope things work out for you in the long run. We bought a home in a townhouse community and have homeowner fees that go into dedicated funds for maintenance of the roofs, exterior painting, landscaping, and so on. If we owned a single-family dwelling, we would have to pay the same or more to keep our house up. Here, if things need fixing inside our individual home, we pay for our own fixes. If we bought a single family house, we’d be paying for everything, inside and out. (PS: Most of our neighbors are in their 70’s, including DH and me. We have one family with young children in our community.) :flowerforyou:
I’ve been having fun in my tiny garden today. I picked beans and blueberries. I’m looking forward to a trail ride on Arrow this weekend. My riding helmet needed attention, and DH has if fixed well enough. I’ve also ordered a new one that hasn’t arrived yet. The Outdoor Store in Portland, where I’ve always shopped, is in covid lock down. They can’t get product and can’t be open to the public. This business has been in place since 1919. I will cry if they have to close forever, and so will others.

It amazes me when people are thinking and planning for Christmas in August! Especially this year when we have no idea what December will bring.
I'm one who starts to think about Christmas around November 25 or so.

I actually just got back from the thrift store, needed fabric to make Christmas ornaments and a tree that will hang on the wall for former mother in law who is in an assisted living home with dementia. I will put velcro on it so she can put the ornaments on and re-arrange when she wants. I also bought a fleece blanket there to make slippers with(one pair for her and some for others if they turn out- brand new pattern). I needed a project to work on so this is perfect. Small things that don't take a lot of time.
something along the lines of this, not as juvenile and not buttons.

The guys in her family(former hubby/my bff, FIL and BILs will all get home made fudge/other chocolates like I do for them each year) Mom and I spend a full three day weekend making all kinds of fudge(12 types this last year I think), caramel corn, toffee, etc to share with everyone. A fun weekend spent with her and everyone gets to enjoy what we make.

Nothing new here. I am keeping up with the zucchini harvest. I walked across the street this morning to ask my neighbor if she'd like some of the next batch that I'll pick and she started telling me about a lot of things including how it won't be long until she'll have to start working on craft projects for Christmas.
The blanket I'm knitting for Project Linus is about half finished but I have to wait for more yarn to come in order to finish it. I found a great site for ordering yarn in all the colors I want.
Machka, As it gets darker and cooler in the mornings, I think about how it will be getting gradually lighter and warmer for you.

Debbie: The felt Christmas Tree is wonderful!
Machka: I would likely have challenges with a Christmas in the middle of summer, and then adapt to the new weather patterns. I imagine Santa visiting your house wearing Bermuda shorts, sunglasses and carrying a bag full of summertime toys & treats. Somehow Hawaii sneaks into this fantasy and Santa brings leis, too.

It was challenging at first, but after 11 years, it's OK. And yes, in the stores, the pool stuff, outdoor patio stuff and other summer stuff is right next to the Christmas stuff.
I'm just so busy and have so many deadlines coming up sooner then Christmas that Christmas is off the radar. At some point we will have to figure out what to do about our Christmas trees. Rhody will consider them a personal challenge ... so we'll either figure out how to hang them from the ceiling or not bother. But that's a worry for another month!

Thank you! She doesn't have room for a actual tree but this will give her something to do/re-do when she wants. Last year I sent her a baby doll.
I have enough fabric for two trees(well a few more than that-depending on the size I make them)- I just need to figure out the pattern/size of the tree to figure out the size of ornaments to make- then the fun, creative part starts. It will help get me really ready for Christmas by the time it comes

This coming week ...
- Work 4 days.
- Uni on Thursday morning.
- Assignment 1 due on Friday (so I'm off that day). I'm hoping we can run what we've got so far by the tutor tomorrow (Monday) to ensure we're on the right track. I've been working on my part all weekend, but have yet to see anyone else's parts.
- Brain Injury Association Peer Group on Tuesday. I'm a committee member of the Association and my husband has a brain injury. These Peer Group meetings seem to be good for him.
- National Committee Meeting of my cycling group. I'm president and representative of my local state branch. We had our local planning meeting last week so we'll possibly discuss our state's progress with that.
- Medical appointment - there's at least one each week again! This time it's my husband's MRI.
- I'm working on another project which I hoped to have completed to a certain point by last Friday. It wasn't so I'm hoping to look at it on Monday evening again.
- Then, if all goes well, we might go to see our son and daughter-in-law play field hockey on Saturday.
I think that's pretty much everything at the moment. More usually crops up as the week progresses. I miss the shutdown time.

Making progress!
I'm glad I'm taking tomorrow (Friday) off to work on the assignment. We've been getting a lot of tips from the instructor and we weren't quite on the right track. So this evening and as much as I can tomorrow, I'll get us back on track! Hopefully my other group members will help too. It's due at 11:55 pm tomorrow night.
I have a personal project I'm also working on ... was hoping to get it done on Monday, but it looks like it will be this coming Monday. There's just not enough time in the day!
Meanwhile, I'm at work eating lunch right now and several things have come up that I need to do this afternoon.

Barbara - I would be avoiding the dance class as well. Not worth the risk.
Terri - is rubbers, erasers in Ireland? My daughter has been teaching her husband how to rinse dishcloths, it’s been an ongoing battle for her for years, she finally made him smell the cloths that he left behind. He is now rinsing.
Lanette - I am actually concerned about her mental health. She didn’t remember what a monthly invoice was for this week, even when I explained it to her she didn’t comprehend until I explained it in three different ways. This is an invoice that we have had monthly for years. That was actually scary to me and made me worried for her. I think she needs to retire.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen or used the purple potatoes and I grew up in potato country.
Lisa - Risqué picture indeed 😂
Heather - that must have been disappointing to have today cancel, but it will be nice to share a meal tomorrow.
Suzi - my Dad was an electrician and taught me this trick. If the bulb breaks in the socket, shut the power off to that appliance at the breaker if necessary. Cut a potato in half and shove it into the socket. It will connect, but may take some finagling. Turn to remove the metal base of the bulb. If it ever happens again you can save 50.00.
Margaret - I have no words and cannot fathom how you must be feeling. Please know you’re in my thoughts and prayers though. Drew must be a comfort to you.
Beth - how incredibly frightening for you and your son. I hope a thorough investigation is completed and lessons are learned.
Allie - I personally hated condo life. The only ones that got what they wanted were the older ones on the board. Myself and my neighbour joined in the hopes of changing things a bit, but we were always outvoted.
Machka - anyone that crafts or makes Christmas presents starts thinking about it mid summer. Lol this year I am wanting to do a major project for my girls and need to get at it.
Debbie - I love that tree, I should see about something like that for my Mom who is in a nursing home suffering from Alzheimer’s. Although truthfully I wonder if she suffers or if it’s just us that do.
Our daughter and grandchildren visited tonight and had supper with us. We hadn’t seen them in a couple of weeks.
We were hoping to have a talk with our daughter about keeping Jonah out of school and we would help with the homeschooling. Turns out they made the decision to have him do online classes for at least the first two months. The school district sent out what parents choices were and they are dividing the school year into 4 quarters. Each quarter the parents can decide whether to do the online school or in class. The online school will be during regular school hours with a teacher assigned to a specific number of students. We are so thankful they are going this route, one of their reasons is they are all much happier that they are able to visit us and we can help out with the kids. If Jonah was back in school that would limit our visits since I work in a nursing home. This keeps us all safer.
All of the talk of crocheted snowflakes made me think of mine. My sister in law’s Mom made a set for me one year for Christmas. They are treasured but I hate trying to keep their shape. Every two or three years I give them the sugar bath again. She also made a Christmas tree for my Mom and I brought it home with me when we cleaned our parents house.

Rebecca - while I was searching for the ornament pictures, I came across this picture of my Mom and my Grandson. This was taken in 2016, he was 4. We had arrived the night before at my brothers house. Jonah was amazed at all of the LEGO. He is really interested in the LEGO people and had found the body for Batman. He had my Mother helping him find the headpiece and mask. I don’t know how they did it, but they were successful. I thought you would appreciate this picture.

My former MIL has Alzheimer's/dementia along with suffering from being bi-polar for many years before I met her which has made it hard to regulate her meds for the newer diagnosis.
She is having a very hard time during this virus because she doesn't understand why her husband and sons can't come visit her. Former DH would go over daily and sit with her while she had breakfast. I wish they lived back here so I could see her but they live in Indiana (moved there when dh and I divorced)
I think your mom would like the tree. I made one years ago and still have it, for my daycare kids. It is fun to move the ornaments around. The picture shows using buttons but Velcro works easier. It can be as simple or as elaborate as you want. I plan on quilting the tree and embellish some of the ornaments for her but the other one for my little daycare girl will be more simple.

That's true. I've never been a craft person. My entire Christmas preparation is:
2 evenings to put up the decorations.
1 evening to figure out some travel options and send some emails to places that might have openings somewhere in the vicinity of Christmas. And then booking the best place(s) to allow us to cycle, hike, run etc.
1 evening to order the Amazon gift cards for family.
And if I'm feeling in the baking mood at all, I might spend a bit of time on a couple weekends making shortbread and/or a pavlova.
I love a quiet, peaceful Christmas that involves lots of outdoor activity like cycling, hiking, running etc.

Along the Velodyssee Route? If so, I'm jealous! We spent some time on the Velodyssee Route in 2012 ... cycled from Bordeaux to La Rochelle ... and loved it. My favourite part of France. Since then I've wanted to move to Royan where the language school is, and stay there for several months or a year or two ... whatever was possible. Cycling up and down the coast and improving my French.

we go a bit(well, a LOT crazy) decorating for Christmas. I used to say it was for the daycare kids and for my son when he was young but honestly, it was just as much for me. We start Thanksgiving weekend. The yard is totally decorated. I want lights back on the roof but unless I get my son to do it, it won't happen. The living room is done next- I have a TON of stuffed animals that all are battery operated that are holiday(I have every day ones out the rest of the year) that are on the back of the couch. They are fun and the kids love them.
Lots of baking plus candy making
I start shopping for gifts around this time of the year but really look all year long- if I see something I know someone will like I get it- makes it easier when we are closer to the holidays.

It did rain in the night, but just a light sprinkle. Our living room is still 82°. I did not sleep well. i spent some time looking at air conditioners . Quite a bit of reading. I'm reading The Danish Girl, the novel from which the film was made.
Usually my DDIL tells me in September what arrangements she has decided for Christmas. She tries to alternate the families. Last year was our turn. No idea what we will be doing this year, it entirely depends on the virus. We may have an alternative extra Christmas a few days before so the kids can open their presents. We did that one year. Right now I feel I can't imagine normal contact. Holding my breath.
