@quilteryoyo I decided to go ahead and write to his wife. I hope this is all okay with everyone. Here is what I wrote:
Hi, Kristi!
You donβt know me at all. I am writing on behalf of the entire My Fitness Pal Monthly Runninga Challenge group. Vincent ismy friend on Facebook and I saw your post, so I was able to share the news of his passing with them.
We all wanted to let you know what a light he is to us. He still is. He was a friend, Coach, mentor, counselor, comedian, and pastor. We all love him so much.
As well, we are so deeply sorry for your loss. Everyone is concerned for you and your son. He loved you two so deeply. I am sure you know that. We are so, so, so very sorry for what you are carrying now, as well as the grief. I know that I am not alone when I say that there is almost nothing we wouldnβt do for you and your son. Should you have a need, please do let me know. There are so many of us and we are all over the world- we can make something happen.
Your husband was my friend. So much my friend and so much my mentor. I cannot imagine how you must be feeling and I, personally, am so sorry. My heart is breaking for you and your son. Even my kids know about Vincent and they keep coming to give me hugs while I am bawling over packing their lunches. That is to say - I truly cannot imagine how you must feel if this is how I feel. I hope that makes sense.
My runs for the coming weeks will be in memory of Vincent and in honor of you and your son.
With so much love,
Mandy and the My Fitness Pal Monthly Running Challenge group
Thank you @Camaramandy648 - I have a leg issue but screw it, 5k for @PastorVincent coming up
Amen to that @TheMrWobbly . Thought about not finishing the challenge Iβm in the middle of Or next monthβs, but then I realized the best way to honor @PastorVincent and truly value what he meant to all of us is to actually listen to him. Keep going.3 -
You know what.
I have new shoes arriving today.
I didn't get fitted for this pair, but I read a lot about them and their stability and reviews etc.
They're not my normal brand(s).
I was really looking forward to the shoe porn posts and @PastorVincent 's response to my reckless purchase. The banter. Man.6 -
I keep thinking he will pop in amd post. It's just surreal not seeing posts from him after all these years.
Sunday will be hard. No Sunday Boston update. π5 -
@Camaramandy648 Thank you for sharing your beautiful letter.1

I have 11.81 for tonightβs portion of the sinister challenge. Iβm working on my playlist for @PastorVincent . I donβt want to do it but I think if i were writing about how I donβt want to run because I am crushed way deep down in my
Bones, he would tell me that running and doing it anyway will strengthen and heal those bones.6 -
I still cannot comprehend this.5

I'm very sorry to hear of @PastorVincent passing. My heart is now heavier than my legs.4

I am just now seeing the news about @PastorVincent and I am heartbroken. He was such a big part of this group and I just can't believe he is gone. I know he had posted that he ran because he had underlying heart issues. I just don't know what to say. I would have dedicated today's run to him if I had seen this first, but I will dedicate my long run on Sunday to him for sure. I also think that we will need to do a group tribute run and I will definitely take part in that.5

Still wondering what happened. Unbelievably heartbreaking.4 -

Today's run was better than I expected. I was tired when I got up and my feet were pretty achy yesterday after my run. So I told myself that I would run 5 miles and that would be good enough. But when I got out there it felt better than expected. The temperature was about the same as yesterday at ~72Β°F, but the humidity was higher at 91% and the dew point was higher too. So it should have been worse, but for some reason it felt better today and I ran an average pace of 10:39 compared to 11:12 yesterday. I wasn't really trying to run faster, I just didn't feel as slow as I did yesterday. I ended up running 6 miles instead of the 5 miles I had planned on. I was just enjoying my run and the feeling of being lost in my own thoughts. I saw a deer near the park. Then when I got to the park I saw the high school cross country team running there. And yes, I did speed up and try to catch some girls who were ahead of me on the path and it made me feel really good to pass them. So mile 6 ended up being my fastest mile. I now have 488 miles on my shoes so I really need to do some shoe shopping.
I would have dedicated my run to @PastorVincent if I had seen the news before I ran. So I will plan to dedicate my run on Sunday to him. I still can't believe he is gone.

Oh my goodness. I've been busy at work and just had a chance to log on and saw this sad, sad news. My heart goes out to his family. He will be greatly missed here in our group and I'm sure in many other places here on this Earth.3 -
In the immortal words of another greatly beloved lost member of our group, Keep Running! Even when things go south, especially when things go south, running is good for the body and the spirit.
My new friend and running partner from the ERace Racism challenge finally got swapped over to the 100 mile distance after deciding the 50 mile went too fast - and promptly finished the challenge the same day. We could probably have done 200 miles easy in the time allotted but she is doing a variety of challenges of different types, and neither one of us wanted to commit to the longer distance. We still got to meet each other which was the point of the challenge! She also challenged me to a push-up challenge, 22 pushups for 22 days, to raise awareness of the high rate of suicide among veterans.
I got in 4.5 miles on roads Wednesday plus a few miles walking, including one mile run at more or less tempo pace, and my knee today feels fine. Hoping it stays good as I gradually increase my distances back to pre-injury levels. I also took a long walk today in the fields behind the Kroger while waiting for grocery pickup, and it really is a vast improvement over sitting in my car the whole time. I managed to get in two and a half miles!8 -

Nice that you got 2.5 miles in, but that's a long time to wait for your grocery pickup π0 -
@Camaramandy648 Thank you so much for reaching out to @PastorVincent s wife. That was a really sweet message. I hope it helps the family to know how much he was loved by so many people.
@kgirlhart Glad you had such a good run. I would have felt good passing those high school girls too, especially since you were in your sixth mile!
@rheddmobile Glad your knee is doing better. Hope you'll be back to normal soon. Great job on getting out and walking instead of waiting in the car!

Oh no, not @PastorVincent! I don't participate here frequently but he made a big impact on my experience when I did.
He was always one of the regulars one could count on being here to make this running community feel warm and inviting.
I'll do a 10K in his memory tomorrow morning.7
