Nice that you got 2.5 miles in, but that's a long time to wait for your grocery pickup 😜
38 minutes! Believe it or not that’s fast for them, once it was an hour and a half from pickup time. This way instead of cursing them I enjoy myself.3 -
I have been getting up early this week to get my runs in before it gets too hot and before going to work. But, I keep getting later and later. Today, it was 8:05 before I got myself out the door. It was 73°F and 89% humidity. It really didn't feel horrible.
Today's plan called for hill repeats....10 minutes easy pace, 6 x (1 min sprint uphill/2 min recovery), 5 min easy pace. The hill I ran was not quite long enough to last the entire minute - more like 50 seconds, but I continued to sprint on the more level section for the remainder of the time. The last time I did hill repeats, I only had to run for 30 seconds. I learned that, when sprinting uphill, one minute takes a lot more out of you than 30 seconds does. (Felt like a lot more than double the effort.) The fifth repeat was the worst and slowest - at about 11:30 min/mile pace. The first 4 were around 10:00-10:30/mile and the last was around 11:00/mile. I was pretty happy with that, but boy was it brutal. Ran 2.5 miles and walked 1.
I used my religious playlist for the run today, in honor of @PastorVincent . One of the songs is "I'm Going to Hit the Ground Running" by the Kingdom Heirs. It basically has a line in the chorus that says the "man" in the song is going to hit the ground running when he gets to heaven. Made me smile through tears to think that is what @PastorVincent did on Monday. Here's a link to the song, if you are so inclined to listen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3veGbbU1bE
Also 16.25/20 walking.11 -
@Camaramandy648 thank you for that lovely message on behalf of all of us.
@quilteryoyo - how appropriate for PastorVincent - hitting the ground running. I had a little laugh/cry moment today wondering if he was relieved to not have to follow his PastorVincent vs. Boston marathon training program anymore (I always got a kick out of seeing him seemingly not do his training plan, switching it all around so he still got the miles in somewhere). Or maybe he will be training for it on the other side with @MobyCarp and @fatboyrunning. It's not really my thing, but I'll allow for that image of heaven.8 -

I didn't post yesterday's miles, not having the heart after hearing about PastorVincent, but I went to run group last night and the workout was hill repeats. I had a stressful day (week) at work and I didn't want to go but as always was glad to have it done. Compared to the hill repeats I've been doing most of the summer with my personal trainer, these were way shorter in by distance and time so I felt like it was not that bad. Of course I could have pushed a lot harder then and made it more challenging. But I was tired.
This morning I had strength training. I woke up to thunderstorms around 4:30 am but was fortunate to get a short run in before the session. During our outdoor training under the tent, it started to rain again a bit. I made it home without getting too wet and then the sky let loose with a very heavy rain. It did this on and off all day. I was very relieved to have gotten my little run in to save my streak because I was not prepared to be drenched and had no time later. It turned out I had a flat tire when I got out of work, so any plan to run then would not have happened. I still have to deal with that tire situation in the morning and I'm not happy about it. This week has been exhausting, but week 1 of teaching down and no major technology glitches for me today at least.7 -
I got in 3 miles last night, plus 2 miles that included speed work. I thought about @PastorVincent and @MobyCarp and the positivity and motivation they had here every day. I didn’t want to run because it was hot, but I did it for them.7

Small correction on case @fatboyrunning wonders why he keeps getting commented on, it was @KeepRunningFatboy who passed 2 years ago.
I don't believe in heven, but like the idea of them running on the Boston Marathon track up there.4 -
Just saw the news. Thinking about his family... ugggh.
Yeah, I ran today, too. Doesn't really matter in light of whatever happened. I'm gonna go listen to @quilteryoyo 's song now. Hugs to everyone.4 -
I haven't run since June but like to dip in to see how everyone is getting on. I was floored yesterday when I read @PastorVincent had passed. I didn't believe it at first until I saw his obituary. I think I'm going to have to dust of my runners and do a few miles in his memory. Take care everyone.7

Thank you - I doubted it when I wrote it but didn't double check. Sorry to the person who I tagged if you see this! Keep running, anyway!2 -
@katharmonic Hope the tire issue is an easy one to fix and glad there are no major issues with school so far. Good for you for getting your run in.

Morning, everyone.
I think @PastorVincent 's wife did get our message, though she hasn't responded directly to me yet. I would really like to keep up with her and their son so I requested to be added as a friend. Their son is @PastorVincent 's legacy. As well, she is a single mom now. A struggle I know all to well. I just want to have the option to be present if they ever need anything. She is carrying so much right now and I'm sure she is overwhelmed by all that there is to do and arrangements to make and people calling in and writing. I remember how stressful it was to feel like I had to be a face for the show - exhausting. Be kind and accept all of the compassion coming your way when you really, really just want to crawl into a hole. All that is to say. She may or may not ever get back to us and that is perfectly fine. I hope she and her son can find peace and healing. Simultaneously, I know it's way too soon to even say that. It sounds like total garbage at this stage.
I posted the link to the funeral on the fB page but when I try to copy and paste it here, it won't copy the whole thing.
So I'm going to type it here:
https://www.facebook.com/LivingFaithFombell/<https://www.facebook.com/LivingFaithFombell/" \t "_blank
I hope it works. It appears that the funeral will be live streamed at 11AM eastern time, USA
I did my Aravaipa Sinister challenge 18k last night. My new shoes also came - Nike React Miler's. They are fine. I was excited to show them to @PastorVincent . The run was in memory and more importantly in honor of @PastorVincent , of course. It was hard. The distance wasn't the problem. It was that I don't generally feel like the bottom is falling out from under me when I run. That feeling in your stomach you get when you're refusing to cry. While running. Like when your eyes start leaking and you can't stop them but you're in the middle of a run and it's all messing everything up and you're so *kitten* mad that you can't stand it. It was like that.
But I did see the most beautiful sunset. And I saw this enormous rainbow. When I passed by that, I had the idea...
I wonder if @PastorVincent is talking to my Mom and my Dad about me. Or about himself. They'd love him!
That bit felt like it could kill me.
I also saw an entire family of deer and they were not afraid of me at all. Also beautiful.
I have to work today because per the usual, I am the only one who is here. I wish I had the option to call in when I have a legitimate reason but by the same token, I have living, tiny people depending on me to earn a wage that supports them. May as well work.
Tomorrow will be my third ultra in about a month and a half. It does not feel nearly as exciting now.
I'll do it anyway, in memory and honor of @PastorVincent and his family.
Also, here is the song I am listening to now:
https://youtu.be/rnrG7M69emY
And here is the one I listened to a lot of while runnning:

And here is a snippet of that sunset.
And here is the rainbow:

I went out for 4 miles today. 38/80 (hah!)
As he was a Pastor, I am thinking this is his way of saying goodbye. Letting his light shine through the darkness.
