Ouooffff! So many people with troubles! Let's put this very bad day behind us and have a restart! Love you all.
Went out for my 5k. Beautiful day. Sunny, but a cool breeze. My kind of weather. Just as I was coming back through the door my brother rang me with the latest news about my nephew. He has decided to go to Southampton University, and see if his first choice, Warwick, will take him next year. I think it’s a good decision as he is coeliac and would be isolating anyway. Southampton is his home town. My brother is baby sitting his great grand daughter on Wednesdays.
Just found out today that our next door neighbour 's daughter had covid a while ago. I noticed the other day, when I was looking out of the upstairs window, that she had lost a lot of weight. She used to be big. Apparently she is still not at all well and for quite a while needed a wheelchair. She must be in her early thirties. She doesn't live with them, but visits.
Raining now, so I caught the right moment.

Michele: I’m glad you have a link to sourdough starter and hope all works out just right. If not, let’s chat and find a way to get some there. Poor Pete. I hope he is doing okay. :flowerforyou:
Pip: Great doggy cookie cutters!!!
(((Machka))): Stress is a part of most of our lives, but you’ve had a triple dose of it for too long. I hope you’ll find ways to relax from the worries and have a little fun again. Having fun is a good health practice.
Dr. Katie: I’m happy that your friend and her coworker were able to get the ipad unlocked. YAY!!!
(((Lisa))): I’m glad you contacted the VA. I hope they provide the help you need to restore your health. You have certainly earned it.
Margaret & Pip: Our 13 year old dog has been diagnosed with colon cancer. He gets Purina Beneful dogfood, including dry kibble and canned food. He has to take rimidyl for pain twice daily. He also gets CBD oil on a cookie as needed to reduce pain. So far, things are going well enough and his quality of life is good.
My new riding helmet has never arrived. Promised & delayed over and over. DH has cancelled the order for me and we’ll look elsewhere to buy. Luckily, DH did a great job repairing my old helmet, so I am not without. Stateline is a possability.

Feeling off today with no sleep and nor hungry, Faith says she is feeling blah too, going to check her sugar .
I was looking at pictures of Gone with the Wind and I figured out something... I am Melanie Wilks and Jean is Scarlett O Hara ...2 -
Karen: It seems to be food at all that triggers me, so mornings are generally good because I don't eat until 11 a.m. or noon. As soon as the body's gas production ramps up, the whole system gets haywire. It appears that everything I eat causes the same reaction, and I have to eat. Feels like that's an eating disorder in the making, so I try not to think about it much.
Yesterday in particular was, I think, the backlash from to trying two weeks of low-dose fiber, which I quit taking Sunday morning. I realized, as careful as I'd been to ramp the dosage up slowly, it was stopping things up rather than helping things through.
I'm just exhausted, fed up with a body that will not work right.
Sorry to be so whiny, guys.

You’re not whiny. You’re tired and fed up.
I’m sure you’ve thought about the condition Katla’s husband has - intolerance to fermentable foods.
I just wish I could think of something to help you.
When my son was a toddler, we finally had to put him on a diet consisting of just 4 foods, and every few days we added back another food or food group - it was crystal clear what his food intolerances were by the time we had tried (and eliminated) many foods. It took weeks to accomplish, but it “cured” him until he outgrew most of the intolerances, and made him a much happier little fellow. (One of the symptoms he experienced was irritability.)
I know you’ve already tried everything… xoxo

Lisa Have you had your microbiome tested? I seem to remember you are taking a low dose antibiotic for UTI. That would successfully kill off all your good gut bacteria which are essential to digestion and a healthy life. You may have already stopped it though. You can get a poo transplant if all else fails! We are our bacteria!

Karen, thank you, I have tried most things that I can think of, which has gotten weirdly creative. Yesterday just got to me. As you said, tired and fed up.
Rita - My suspicions are some form of IBD, and the run up to actually getting a diagnosis always seems to involve a lengthy number of visits to doctors without results.
Heather - I'll look into it, can't see the VA paying for it. But you never know...
For all of you, my apologies - all the jokes that come to mind include the fact that this day has been "circling the drain," to "flush this one down the tubes." Didn't mean to set us all on tilt. For all our sakes, I'm drawing a line under my tail (pun intended) of woe and we'll drop this subject.
LIne
Do love y'all, don't know what I'd do without you.
Edit to add: And today is genuinely a better day than yesterday, by leaps and bounds. Thank y'all for caring so much.5 -
Lisa glad today is a better day!2

So I've tried MFP for years...with roller coaster results. Trying again - ran into a friend in her mid fifties who had lost 40 pounds over a year...gave me renewed hope that it would be possible with my 52 year old metabolism. I had pretty much given up and was trying to learn to just live with my weight gain. I would like to lose five pounds a month - for 12 months. Seems like a reasonable goal...but haven't been able to accomplish it yet! I KNOW that the secret to MY success is logging my food. So that is what I'm back to trying. Finding friends to be accountable with will definitely help. So...here's to September! And then october, November, December...

Lisa ... First of all, thank you for getting on your soap box for me. Absolutely spot on! Amazing how we can let a word or a phrase set us back. I knew better. I know better. I believe we can go through life handling really big things, serious things ... and then fall apart over a cup of spilt milk. I know that I have been under a lot of stress ... those words were the cup of spilt milk. Then, I'm sorry about that situation you just drew a line under ... hoping you get answers and feel better soon!
SuziQ ... I started about 125 pounds overweight (I stopped weighing at my highest). I was within 40 pounds of my goal (which is not some crazy number but a healthy BMI) but didn't maintain it.
And about that BMI number ... it was created in the 1830s?? Seriously?

Gave Drew some last night and she is one who will eat as much as you are willing to give. Since new to her just gave her a few small chunks. She also like squash and cukes from our garden and blueberries. If I am not sure I check on the web.
I don't know why grapes are so bad but I have heard that too. Along with onions, avocado, and mushrooms.
My biggest problem in walking her are the chicken bones people fail to throw into the trash in our area! Arghh!
It’s dark chocolate that is dangerous for dogs specifically2 -
started the day with dog throwing up on my bed. Had to wash blanket, sheets, and mattress cover. I am so grateful for my washer and dryer. Bed is now ready for use again
Lunch prepared by hubby made with garlic, zucchini, tomatoes, and parsley we grew ourselves and potatoes and onions donated by a neighbor .

Kristen: It’s definitely possible! In 2015 at the age of 69, I managed to lose 48lbs (4 per month) after a lifetime of yo yo dieting. Kept going and am currently down 77lbs and have maintained for about 9 months so far. I have embraced my permanent lifestyle change, and have no inclination to revert to my old ways.2

I did talk to my brother for a few minutes through a friend and told him about not going to the cottage and he asked why.. said shane going to the lake and knew that Jean would be there too..
He said he wouldnt be leaving the cottage until he gets what he needs to done..
Im just going to do stuff around here which is fine..2 -
Beth: They have now developed a smart BMI calculator which takes age, height, and build into account. I don’t know why the medical profession still persist in using that outdated calculation.1

I have been binge watching 'Yellowstone '. Its on par with 'Longmeire'. I am in season 2 and emotionally invested.👍
Husband's birthday was quiet, but nice. We are having leftover lasagna tonight.
Its in the 40/50's at night, so I got out the throw blankets for the bed. Summer is officially over. It was about 1 week long here.
Hugs to y'all!

Kristen in WA: Welcome to a great group of supportive women. Post often & get to know us.
Barbie: Your lunch is visually appealing. I’ll bet every bite is delicious.
Lisa: Look up Low Fodmap Food Chart. Look on the Monash University site in Austraila. It is a list of foods that are good for you on one side, and likely to upset your digestive system on the other side. Good is green, & Red is likely to cause upset. Look at www.monash.edu Low FODMAP Diet App | Monash University
It is a starting place to begin learning about the system. If you’re interested I downloaded loads of recipes that are friendly for DH. The FODMAP Diet has made a huge difference for him. (((HUGS)))

Today is World Coconut Day!
"World Coconut Day is all about coconuts. It’s a celebration for those with coconut know-how and hopefully enlightening to those yet to discover this magical fruit (not nut!). Please take this opportunity to consider coconuts for a second – with the knowledge that other people around the world are doing the same."
drkatiebug - Sending you a virtual hug! That situation sounds frustrating all around. Your friend probably locked herself out of it and then gave it back since she'd rendered it useless. Would have been nice of her to just pull on her big girl panties and say so, but at least she managed to make it right.
Katla - I'm so sorry about your old dog. At least you have a heads-up so you can treasure every day you have with him. It's so hard to say goodbye!
We finally got some rain and, along with it, a break in the heat. Not sure how long it'll last but I'm happy for it right now. Sadly, all I want to do lately is sit around pondering coconuts and other equally useless stuff. I was in SUCH a good place earlier in the year, but this whole pandemic thing has thrown a giant wrench in the works. Right now my only goals are to stay on top of my work and log in here every day.

Did a DVD for the bosu today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Cathe Muscle Max DVD.
Worked today. It was interesting, to say the least. Unbeknownst to us, the download of the prices of things on sale didn’t for whatever reason get to our store. So we had to override A LOT. Boy, did I get good at overrides! And, of course, we didn’t know all the items that were on sale. I feel bad for the people who didn’t realize that they weren’t getting the sale price, but there’s nothing I can do about it. Came home, fed my starter (there’s A LITTLE and I do mean LITTLE) activity, exercised, went in the pool, had dinner, now here. I’m thinking that early tomorrow I’ll go to Aldi’s
At the end of the day I do have to say that I enjoy working. It gets me talking to people. So many different people, you can learn so much and help so much. Like today this person was asking me what building was going at the end of the strip mall. I told him it was a new vet (the one we use, right across the street from where they’re building a new building) office. He was saying how he was unhappy with the vet he has now, so I told him that I highly recommended our vet. The man said that he might go back to them. Now was he being nice to me? I don’t know. But I did feel good about recommending the vet. I'm really not looking for a whole lot of hours or to make a lot of money, I just want to feel good. And I feel I do.
Pip – I make a homemade dog biscuit for my friends who have dogs. The recipe says to cut them in bone shapes but I don’t. I figure the dog doesn’t care the shape….lol Am I lazy or what?
Drkatie – I don’t think you’re being insensitive at all. What your “friend” did was inexcusable. What your friend should (but probably won’t) do is buy a new tablet since she “broke” yours in making it unusable. Update: how wonderful that they got the PW fixed!!!!
Allie – what did Faith do that has you so upset?
SuziQ – To me, this phase 2.5 is a bit of a joke. Like the gyms are now allowed to be open. Really, they’ve been open. I guess the only big thing is that the number of people who can gather has increased. But you know what? There have been gatherings of over 10 So I really don’t see much of what’s changing. So you’re in phase 1.5, huh?
Faye – great poem
Tonight I’m trying putting the starter in the oven on “proof”. While I was at the pool, I needed to refill the WHY (wasp, hornet and yellowjacket) trap with apple juice and realized that if I don’t change it about every other day, the apple juice starts to ferment. I’m thinking from the heat. So I’ll try giving the starter some heat. Sure hope this helps because I’m getting frustrated. King Arthur you just might see me.
Katla – I’m sorry you haven’t gotten your helmet.
I, too, HATE this medicare stuff. I’d like a supplement that is not an Advantage plan but that includes Silver Sneakers. I haven’t found anyone. One that I called to ask if they had what I’m looking for asked me for my address. What in the world does that have to do with them looking up whether or not they can provide it? I told him so. I just didn’t want them sending me all sorts of mail. It was just a simple “yes” or “no” answer that I was looking for. Unfortunately, I got the answer and it was a “no”.
Kristen – welcome! Your goal is absolutely doable

Yvonne: Our old dog is a wonderful pet and still enjoying life, in good part because of a good veterinarian who has set us on a path to help keep him comfortable and a good groomer who noticed a problem in the first place, months and months ago. He has pain pills twice a day & uses a hydrocortisone cream for humans to keep a lesion on his backside from becoming painful. He loves to take walks in the neighborhood and is active and happy. So far, so good. We treasure every day with him.
Michele: DH finally got through to someone and the helmet is on the way. I hope. Luckily DH did a good job fixing up my old helmet, so I will be able to ride when I get the opportunity.

September 2020 Resolutions
1. Log every bite and swallow.
2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on strength and stamina.
3. Have fun every day.
4. Drink at least 3 glasses of water a day.
5. Monitor sleep. Average 7 or more hours nightly.
6. Abstain from alcohol.
Halt Stress:
1. Am I hungry?
2. Am I angry?
3. Am I lonely?
4: Am I tired?
For any yes answer, I have a practical way to help myself. If I am hungry, I eat. If I am angry I can find a way to address the problem that caused anger. If I’m lonely, I can chat with this wonderful group, or DH, or call a friend. If I’m tired I can rest or sleep. It doesn’t make life perfect, but it sure helps smooth out some bumps.
