Cheri and Karen – Lantana is a perennial here in SFL. It grows so quickly it gets very leggy. I usually plant in the summer because it is very draught resistant and provides a lot of color with very little maintenance.
Hugs to all.
SuziQ – SFL
Is that this plant?

Yes, that is the plant. I grow it in pots so it does not spread. People call them flowers, but I have always called it a weed.1 -

Hi Allie.
It does not matter if he is still working and you want to collect on his benefits. There are so many rules with SSI it's best to set an appointment to discuss with a specialist.
For me, I can collect survivor benefits starting at 60 (if rules hold true until then). But, I must collect as "restricted" benefits or I would mess up my donation over the years. Based upon my salary and Charlie's salary when he passed more than likely when I officially retire my benefit would be more than his.
I still have time to plan and gather facts. It has been a process. I helped one of my co-workers out.....through my research I found out about the restricted benefits. She did not believe me until I forced her to make an appointment. She ended up losing out on collecting his benefits for 5 years but was able to do so for the past three. It is helping her hold out on collecting her own benefits at 70 which is the maximum payout for us. And, she is still working so it is helping her save more.1 -
I just got great news!!! I can order anything I want within the point range for the watch. The company makes us make three selections just in case something is out of stock. I selected 2 HPs and one Dell. Oh, I am so very excited!! And, it is something I will use every day which makes me even happier!9

Katla- glad to hear about your poocher1

Great news SuziQ!
I won the National Lottery again! £30 !!!!! I won the same amount in May, so this year hasn't been too bad. Of course, I've spent more than I've won, but that's gambling for you. At least it goes to a good cause.
Rain, wind. DH has shifted all the ceramics and I've done the pictures. We have our big batik to get down, which is a two person job. The painter can take down the curtain rail. I could never understand why the previous people had curtains there until my son said it could have been so they could use the living room as a spare bedroom. That made sense. The previous owners were curtain and blinds mad. They are everywhere, even on windows not overlooked. I hate them. In my other houses I've only had curtains in the bedrooms.
Much love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Debbie - My coworkers husband works at Safeway part time due to the benefits and such. He has been there for over 20 years.
They were bought out here in Canada by Sobey’s but I think they have still kept Safeway rules.
Karen - I made my flower bed a mess this year quite inadvertently. We usually are given annual plants for free from the City that are leftovers from their beds but since we didn’t have that this year I decided to plant some wildflower seeds. Most of them were weeds and now I need to figure out what is good and what isn’t in my beds. I did buy two bleeding hearts because they reminded me of my grandmother I need to move them to the end before it gets cold I think.
I am not a gardener and don’t enjoy it, but do it because the yard needs something.
Katla - what kind of cushion is your husband looking for? I love this frame, it’s actually a shadow frame depth so I could put items in it if I wanted.
Happy that Schooner is doing well.
Heather - Thank you, genetics are so funny I have been told both that I look like my Mom and look like my Dad I’m pretty sure I’ve been told both by the same people at different times in my life. 🙂
I love peeking in peoples windows when the lights are on. I don’t know why, but I love seeing how others decorate and such.
I can’t wait to see pics of your freshly painted room.
Our clocks go back the same weekend as yours. It’s already dark when I wake up though and I was sorely disappointed coming out of my bath last night to darkness.
Terri - I have seen the mask gadgets that are knitted with buttons in each end as well. We have been allowing them at work as long as they aren’t used in isolation rooms.
Faye - you make me laugh out loud and spit a drink across the room so often. Your mind must be a fun place to be at times.
What state are you in that isn’t having a time change next year?
It has been talked about here but I don’t think any province has announced a stop yet.
Suzi - Excited for you to get the laptop! It makes sense to allow employees to choose their own gift.
My daughter sent me photos of her little Fall display that had me so it this weekend. I used to do it regularly but hadn’t for a few years.
I cleaned some yesterday and should do more today. I am not feeling 100% though so may just be lazy.
I really want to start thinking about writing the books for my girls but I don’t know where to start so keep putting it off.

Machka: We have a mostly cloudy day today. No rain in today’s forecast. As to daylight time vs standard time. When daylight time first came in Salem was standard and Portland was daylight. The little towns in between went half way. It is a good memory now. I won’t mind having year around time again. Regarding lantana, not a problem around here but Scotch Broom is another matter. It is invasive & has toxic properties for wildlife. Oregon has been working on getting rid of it for a since 2009. I see less and less and hope it will soon be a thing of the past. :grumble:
Pip: Schooner is doing very well. Thank you for thinking of him. He’s had his morning pain pills and that will continue twice a day until they’re gone. He seems comfortable and is not in pain. We are hoping our old dog will get to become a much older boy. He is 11 now and could get to be 14 or 15 according to breed information.
Heather: Congrats on winning the national lottery. How will you spend your loot?
Snowflake: DH wants another cushion just like the one he already has. The ones I brought home and returned were too soft. He wants another for use in the house and also in our cars. His “sit-bones” are not well padded by nature & he wants them to have a comfortable place when he sits. Ideally, there will be cushion under his sit-bones & an empty spot for his tailbone.
Today is mostly cloudy and a bit misty in low elevations like ours, but it isn’t raining. I have one item on my todo list. DH shut off the water to our outdoor potted plants and my chocolate mint plant is a mess. I hope to rescue it. He turned the water back on but the damage is significant for that plant.

So far, so good with the IF 16:8. I kinda wish I had weighed myself at the start, but that's awkward in this house. I'm hoping for results with my clothing by the end of October. Then my shorts that I put away for the winter might fit!
Annie in Delaware2 -
I've ordered some tulip bulbs and a bag of compost to plant in a neglected pot outside our window. With any luck they should grow tall enough for us to be able to enjoy them from the inside. It was a very expensive, self watering, pot when I bought it at our last house, but I am a very lazy gardener. Not a gardener at all recently. I hope this will look after itself over the winter. Our garden is lovely in the spring anyway. (Nothing to do with us)
Our curry was heaven.

Tracey I am in Oregon. Oregon, Washington, and California all voted to stay on daylight time year around. The OR governor signed it in June 2019, but it depended on Ca. and Wa. following suit. They did, but now we are waiting for our national congress to sign off on it. It was supposed to be law Jan. 2020 and now nearing 2021, we are still waiting for Congress to act, so we will change back to a regular time soon and then back to daylight time in March. Hopefully next fall we will stay on it year-round. I would just like to stay on one time year around for the rest of my life. Being retired this time game doesn't affect me except for things like doctors' appointments. What is going to be interesting is the bordering states on mountain time that stay on the yearly switch er roo, will be 2 hours different than us during the winter.
I really do want to make you smile, laugh, chuckle, etc., but please swallow before reading my post. I am never sure what others will find funny and I hate to tacky up my post with a disclaimer, so be advised that mask-wearing may prevent cleaning up splattered beverages and a straw can be used so your mask can stay in place.
Heather Congrats on the lotto win. I quit playing years ago as I won a couple of bucks every $100 spend. I have never been a gambler or lucky.
SuzieQ I haven't worn or had a watch in years. I can't believe they still give watches as rewards. A laptop certainly makes more sense. I still have a clock in the box it came as my 10-year reward and a travel nail kit also still in the box I got for my 15-year reward. When I retired due to health at 18 years, the company gave me nothing but grief. The guys got together and got me a gift certificate for 3 nights at a coastal resort. I was so touched it made me cry. That crew was all guys and they were a bit surprised that I had such a soft side. I was the shop steward and known for scathing reviews of management, and never backing down, so for the first time, they saw me in a skirt, fitted sleeveless top, pushup bra that made me 2 sizes larger, semi heels, with eye makeup and hair styled. The tears were genuine and really shocked them.
Katla Glad the pup is doing so well and they got it removed. Will they do a scan to see if they got it all or can they tell from the tumor biopsy?

Faye - I am definitely in deficit over the years, but I live in hope! This year has been better than average. I never gamble on anything else. DH tells me it would be a disaster if I won big. He is probably right. At least this lottery is a fund raiser for good causes.
I wear a watch all the time and would be lost without it. I'm a compulsive time checker. LOVE my Mondaine Swiss station clock watch. I run my life by the clock. Most people know I am a stickler for timing and always let me know if they are going to be a few minutes late. All my meals are served on time. I do not tolerate slackers well.

For the record I weigh 176.3 wearing jeans and a tee shirt, at five p.m. Not the best weighing technique, but it is a starting point for this leg of my journey.

Heather I, too, am a stickler for time and promptness but I took off my watch in 2004 when I retired and now I carry a pedometer in one pocket and smartphone in the other and they both have clocks so I always know the time.0

Pip: Thank you for your good thoughts for our dog. He is doing very well today.
Snowflake: DH is looking for a seat cushion that will give him a bit of extra support, in the house, occasionally, but mostly in the car. He has one that he takes back and forth between the house & the car but would rather get a second one that will stay in the car. This is a work in progress.
Faye: The vet said that the cancer is gone and the margins are clear. We won’t have to worry about again. YAY!!!! There was a biopsy and those results are in the doctor’s records. I am not planning to ask for details at this point.
DH shut off the watering system early and I have a withered chocolate mint plant. I plan to do what I can to resuscitate it. The weather is clear & dry for October in NW Oregon.

Sounds great Annie just keep going until you reach the weight and size you feel motivated to maintain.
Rebecca Cool photos for our biker chicks.
Heather I wore a watch for many years when I delivered packages until they got us the electronic pads that kept our time to the 1/100 th of a minute. I have never worn one since. I also have an intolerance for slackers that can't be on time. In the 35 years I worked on jobs, I was never late once. I have never been late to a party. When I used to go to holiday parties with Zek, he always wanted to be "fashionably" late. I always told him he best find another date then, because late was not my style or fashion.

WATCHES: When I retired, I was given a watch (probably a cheap one) and I immediately gave it away! My FnL was given a Rolex when he retired from Coca Cola USA in the late 70's. We still have it and will give it to our son some day.
My Old Lady favorite movie is: The Wedding Date. It is free on Peacock at the moment. I get such a smile looking at the charisma between those two actors at that time. Now they are so much older! Ugh! But, I loved it anyway.

Katla - I got this seat cushion a year ago. I actually put it on my recliner to give a bit more of a "boost" as the seat was too squishy. Has held up very well. I haven't tried it in the car- from Amazon:

And even if your mint doesn't rejuvenate, perhaps if you cut it back and let it overwinter, it will be vigorous next spring now that it's been watered. I've done similar with forgetting to water mine and nature made lemonade for me, lol. Here's hoping. And great news about Schooner!!

Did Leslie Sansone’s Walk Away the Pounds DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a body pump video
Made zucchini pumpkin muffins for me to have another day. Need to make some icing so I’ll have it to decorate these cupcakes for a friend.
Karen – yes, I’ve seen others twisting the ear loops. I’m going to try that the next time I have to wear that mask
Heather – I don’t know about you, but I certainly can do without an extra hour of 2020! From the people who have had the double dose of the flu shot for elderly people, most of them seemed to have a reaction. Maybe those were the only people who talked about it
Trying making another loaf of sourdough today. If Vince doesn’t like that no-salt one, I’ll probably just throw it out. This time I only used a little salt and less water since I usually had to add flour
Heather – your light wood floors – with mine I can see the water spots. Do you do something special to yours or did the guys who redid them do something special? Congrats on your winnings
Faye – will you be going to the same time all year? Which time, DST or Standard?
Pensions: so glad that Vince is getting his! I don’t think it’s offered any more
SuziQ – YEAA for being able to pick out your own gift
I, too, wear a watch all the time. Now Vince uses his phone for his watch. I don’t always have some place to put my phone, my pockets aren’t deep enough
Sadness in NC …. We brought in the ceramics from around the pool. I just know what’s next. Well…until March
Went to a neighborhood HOA meeting. The first one we’ve had in YEARS, and I do mean years. One thing they were talking about was having some sort of neighborhood get together. I just had to laugh. I called one lady who was quite involved when they had them previously and she told me that she just wants to come and enjoy herself. All I was asking was that she help out the day of the pool party. She felt that I could do it myself. From the other pool parties we’ve had, I know that I need at least one other person. They also mentioned how we should have a directory. Again, I just laughed. I tried to get one together, got the information, gave it to the president who gave it to the vice-president and there it ended. Nothing was done. Oh well…I’m not going to worry about it.

Watches --- I stopped wearing one in October 1997. I'm not sure why exactly, it just seemed like it was time.
Metal bothers my skin so that was one factor.
And I discovered that we are surrounded by time ... we don't actually need to carry it with us.
Plus letting time have control stresses me out. By that I mean that if I can turn up to something somewhere between 6:30 and 7 pm, I'm so much more relaxed than if I have to be there at the stroke of 6:30. And these days I don't need the extra stress.
Daylight Savings Time --- IMO it should be year round. I wish Tasmania would vote for that and I keep sending emails about it.
If BC votes in favour of DST year round, that will definitely be a point in its favour for moving there!
