Holy heck, I'm so far behind!!!
01/10 7km
08/10 8km
10/10 10km
Total 25km of 70km for October
The beginning of the month is always a bit hell for me, work-wise - I got out on the 1st then too many late nights happened and I didn't get out for a week. I smashed it on Saturday though - thought I'd do an easy run, felt good at the 5km mark so peeled on to the longer route, and got back, having completed 10km, in another PB (by another 5 seconds). Best of all, though, I've finally achieved a sub-6min 1km. All I have to do is string 10 of them together now and I've got my sub-60 minute 10km! I'm starting to believe this is truly possible!
Goals for the year:
1. Get back down to a decent running weight (currently set at 160lb) - achieved!
2. Run a sub-60 minute 10K
3. Run a race this year (this is looking so doubtful now!)
Races planned. None, but I've signed up for a "I beat 2020" challenge in December. It has bling!
Yeah we talk a lot!
Congrats on the goal weight and the sub 6 minute 1km!
Doing a sub 1 hr 10k in an actual race is still one of my goals. I did it in training twice last spring then blew out my Achilles’ tendon ten days before the race and never did get back to my previous level! At least I’m back to sub 30 minute 5k, now if I can just do two of those in a row....6 -
@quilteryoyo hope you have a good sleep tonight and thinking of you for tomorrow! You've got this!

Worked all this beautiful day, but managed a run around 5 pm - which actually felt pretty good. Then I treated myself to take-out food and took Stella out for her walk. We had to put our lights on as it got dark pretty quickly but it was a nice cool evening. I was super happy I put a jacket on over my sweatshirt and grabbed a pair of gloves though.5 -
I'm behind on all the conversations but I know there is lots of good running going on. We had a cool few days which were glorious but the heat is back tomorrow and pretty much for the entire week again. I did enjoy the falling leaves and smell of fall.

I have my heart catheterization today. It's scheduled for noon. I'm getting a tad bit nervous. I know it will be okay, but I'm used to being the caregiver, not the patient. I'll check back in when I can.15

@quilteryoyo Will say a prayer or three for you! I bookmarked your caringbridge page. Just know we all care for you!
@skippygirlsmom - are you doing the run to Gatlinburg challenge? Not sure if my body will forgive me if I sign up. LOL
@ANONYMOUS - thank you for your kind generosity to honor a kind and generous running friend.
I tried to run yesterday in my old running shoes. My Achilles started bothering me by mile 3, so I called it finished. This morning I was back out there with my new running shoes and everything was good! I hate giving up on shoes that outwardly still look good, but yesterday cinched it for me. I really can wear out a pair of shoes!
Saturday was fishing tournament day. Rainy but wonderful! I missed "big fish" by 2 oz. but we won 1st place for the day!

Forgot to say:
October miles: 41.5
Space Race: 230.32 (just 18.18 to go!)
Also, was driving back from the tournament and noticed they've put a 3.7 mile paved path along Lake Guntersville. Would love to run along that stretch of water!3 -
Whew, Okay - good morning, all!
I just have a couple of additions to make and I believe I will have captured everyone that emailed me or pm'd me. I know of two additions I need to make which will bring the total to 28 - sound right?
I'm just about to send the last sheet over. I saw where I was typing too fast last week: My actual email:
camara.mandy@gmail.com
If that doesn't work, PM me
Or text me! But PM me first before i post my phone number here, rotfl.
Ran 20 miles almost all trails Saturday with a friend who had never run more than a half or something like that. Still love my friend, still don't love running with people.
He'll drop off when the coach starts drilling me this week, I'm sure. Nick said running with me is like therapy for him, which is great, except I'm not really in the business of saving people and I worked really hard to not be codependent anymore. Plus, running is therapy for me. I'll get it worked out. First a soft no thank you. I'm sure he will respect that boundary.
In any event. love ya bunches.
@Tramboman - golf sounds like torture to me.4 -

@quilteryoyo all the positive vibes are headed your way 🖤1

@shanaber good call on making sure the sales person is a runner! I probably would have just assumed they were, but that's not always the case!
@skippygirlsmom I'm hoping to find a place like that! There is a family chain that has about 4-5 stores in the metro-DET area that I am planning on checking out. Everyone who runs around here shops there or runs at their events, so it seems like a safe bet!
welcome @tracydvt !
@quilteryoyo thinking of you today and saying a prayer!
With @Avidkeo 's blessing (and because the kids were hands-on this weekend), I took a 4-day rest from running. I think the longer break was what I needed because my body felt AMAZING on my run today. I didn't stop at the running store (because of the kids and whatnot), but I'm going to do that this week. First order of business though is a dentist appointment. I think a piece of my filling in one of my molars fell out. Bleh.
10/1 - 3.1mi
10/2 - 2mi
10/5 - 3mi
10/7 - 3.25mi
10/12 - 3.5mi
14.85/35 for October7 -
@quilteryoyo Praying that the cath goes well.1
-
No running, but cross-training day for me. At lunch I scored on not one, but two new pairs of Brooks Ghosts for my reserve spot in the closet. A local shoe store was having a sale with an additional 30% off during the hours of 10 -2 today. I hesitated to go but it wasn't too crowded and everyone had masks on. I went straight to my shoes, found my size, paid and exited the building with a smile!
Thinking of you @quilteryoyo!9 -
Just had my post typed out, went to check something in another app, came back and it's gone.
So basically I drank coffee today, went for a long run, had to go off-trail in the forest and then packed a bunch of stuff up in my house (likely moving to another city in near-ish future). Now I'm still feeling the coffee and regretting it.
Pictures from the reroute, plus bonus points if you can identify what's piled up in the field:
Also guinea pigs. Why a tissue box worked at keeping the males and females separate, I have no idea. Apparently they later figured it out, and were promptly sent back to their separate cages.6 -
@polskagirl01 Potatoes is my official guess.0
-
@quilteryoyo thinking of you today!
@polskagirl I agree with @Camaramandy648 looks like potatoes.
@Teresa502 yay for shoes!
@kristinajeang yay for rest days! Glad your run felt good.
@WandaVaughn I love running by water, so calm and peaceful. Well unless you run by the sea on a stormy day lol. Congrats on first prize in the fishing!!
2 -
Cross training day for me. Was on call last night so go into work at 1030am. Just waiting for the kids to go to school and I'll get on my bike. Already have a few YouTube videos lined up to watch.
Calf was niggly again last night. Same situation, fine at rest, a few niggles when I walk that quickly eases. It does seem to be getting better I guess, but alwaysakes me fearful.
And I'm going to have to keep an eye out for a new pair of shoes. One pair is from January so with marathon training, they are probably on the way out. I wore them yesterday so wonder if they are contributing to niggles, since I wore a newer pair before that and was fine.
Or its just the way injuries heal. You have good days and bad days lol.
4 -
@polskagirl my guess is potatoes too...but why would they all be piled up in a field. Harvesting?
@quilteryoyo thoughts and prayers with you today.
Didn't do my normal Monday run today. Saw it was going to drop to the 50's tonight, and I am playing golf on Saturday, so I shifted my running schedule by a day this week. Maybe that will cure my streak of Monday running blahs.4 -
"What's 'taters, Precious?"7
-
Ugh I also hit done instead of post.n
Cliff notes:
Potatoes
7.5 treadmill miles (5K pr!)
Place 1st overall female out of 4 haha on last virtual 10K
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving
Love you all.
Hoping the blahs go away6 -
@polskagirl01 - Initially I was going to say potatoes too because we had piles of them like that in Idaho when I was a kid as well as sugar beets. But I am thinking turnips because the shape isn't really potato like?0
-
Thanks everyone. The heart cath went well. No blockages! I feel great. It was easier than I expected.
@WandaVaughn Congratulations on the fishing win. So close to the "big fish."
@Camaramandy648 Maybe you could just run with your friend once a month or something, instead of every week. That way you both get what you need.
@kristinajeang Yeah for the great run. Hope you were able to get the tooth fixed.
Yeah for the shoe score @Teresa502 !
@polskagirl01 Nice place to run. Are those sweet potatoes?
@Avidkeo Hope the calf continues to behave. Sounds like the shoes could be a contributing factor.
@hamsterwheel6 Yeah for the PR and win!5 -
Since I have been struggling a bit lately (one run great then two or three struggle runs) I decided to change my focus from pushing to get in more miles. My focus this week is to keep right around 4 including warmup and cool down. I am hoping this will improve the quality of my runs and help me be able to run more with fewer breaks or walks. Also maybe it will help the PM understand what my cardiovascular requirements are. Today's run was great. Leaves are changing, the trail is beautiful and it smells like fall. I did end up going a bit further than intended though to use the bathroom before we headed home.
It is also getting hot here, again... 95F so far today and expected to get hotter each day this week. I am so ready for fall weather to really kick in. Last week's teaser of a few cool days was just cruel.

I left work early to get both a short dog walk and a run in before strength training. Now I feel panicky about not getting enough done today but it was much needed time away from the computer.
I had an annual eye exam this morning and I decided to try contact lenses for the first time because I'm so frustrated with the whole glasses/face mask situation at work. Day 1 of contacts was not so successful. I gave myself a nice little hemorrhage//broken blood vessels immediately. And then somehow when I went to take them out after wearing them for several hours I realized there wasn't even one in my left eye. Which probably explains why I felt like I couldn't see very well all morning. So fresh start tomorrow I guess. I'm hopeful that I'll end up liking not having to take glasses on and off all the time which was really annoying me.5
