Sunny, upper 50s F, with a south wind blowing 10 to 15 MPH with occasional higher gusts. Almost felt colder than yesterday. Saw a lot of squirrels that must be feeling the approaching strong cold front which is going to drop our temperatures into the 30s and 40s for the weekend.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

Warm-up run before strength training this morning - it was super windy but warmer than expected at about 60 degrees. During strength training I got really dizzy and felt terrible, which I'm pretty sure is a sign I have not been drinking enough water or eating well. My trainer gave me some gatorade and it helped some and I just half a bagel too and that is settling things. Ugh, need to take better care of myself when I'm busy.
@noblsheep I got the 645 with music. Very excited about it!
@TheMrWobbly best of luck with your interview.

Great run @Scott6255 – I wish my new Ghosts would get me that kind of pace! Lol!
@tramboman – Don’t you ever want to change it up and do 7.5k or maybe 6.8k?
@katharmonic – yes, take better care of that body! I know, easier said than done, when stressed out with work demands. Hugs!

Nice and cool this morning. I'm loving it!
October miles: 56.8 (43.2 to go)
Space Race: 245.61 (2.89 to go!)
I didn't finish my Space Race on purpose this morning. I'm hoping to finish off around the Space and Rocket Center here in Huntsville. Silly, I know, but since the race was to the International Space Station, I figured that was the nearest to a destination race end that I could get! LOL!5 -

Didn’t run yesterday, life got in the way. Delivered Skip back part way to school and her friend took her the rest of the way. We had a great visit. I traded Skip for her friend’s Mom who is one of my bestest friends so as we were driving the 3 hours home my tire pressure light came on. Didn’t worry about it since it happens sometimes when the temperature goes up and down, I figured I’d stop on the way to work and put air in the tires. Well went outside and she was flat. I put air in it with a bike pump, found the nail that was in it and went back in to call the girl I work with to see if she could drive me in. She goes in like an hour to 90 minutes before me so I didn’t have time to run since she was getting ready to leave for work. Then after work I took it to Firestone…after the filling up with the bike pump again enough to get me to the gas station ½ mile up the road to put air in it to get me there.
@Teresa502 the biggest thing I paid for this weekend for Skip was Boise noise canceling headphones. Her suitemate is partially deaf so doesn’t always realize how loud she is and the guy across the hall is a music production major ha ha so trying to do homework or zoom meeting with little ear buds wasn’t working. I had them on, love them! Followed a close second to food ha ha
@quilteryoyo my neighbor walks part way with her and then if I’m around I walk back with her. She’s just the sweetest, she brings a biscuit in case she sees us and I have Champ with me.
@kgirlhart the weather is the same here….winter in the morning, summer in the afternoon followed by fall in the evening.
@Avidkeo I’m sorry the calf is still talking to you.
@Rheddmobile I don’t know what those things are. I love flybys I’m always checking who is near me ha ha
@Camaramandy648 what do you use to track your runs, quite a few of us here are also on strava together. We just can’t get enough of each other. I agree on the healthcare system, I pay a ton in premiums and then get to pay more in high deductibles.
@WandaVaughn great job finishing the space run at the space and rocket center

I tried to do speed work today. I was supposed to run a pace run. I set my virtual pacer for 10:05 which is the goal HM pace I am shooting for. I ran 6 miles in 1:00:17 with an average pace of 10:01 so I think I did alright. That pace would have me finishing the HM in 2:11:13 which will be a PR for me. It was a good run. It was a little windy and it was warmish starting out, but got cooler and windier as I went. It was nice and clear and there were lots of stars out. There was only the tiniest sliver of moon. Now it is cloudy and the cold front is definitely coming in. I tried to run fast-ish and I think I did pretty good. I didn't run as fast as if I was racing a 5K or even a 10K, but I think I could hold that pace for a HM and possibly even go a little faster. Just a little over 3 weeks and I'll find out.
Today is my last day at my old job. My emotions have been all over the place this week. I'm sad to be leaving my job of 20 years, but also excited to start something new. I'll get a long weekend before starting the new job on Monday. I'm still trying to decide if I want to start getting up earlier to get my hour run plus yoga, or if I want to just get up at the same time I get up now and do the yoga at lunch or in the evening. My schedule will be changing from working 8:30-3:30 to 8-5 so even though it would work to just do the yoga later in the day, I'm afraid that with working later I might not get it done and I know that if I do it before work then it will be done. I just have to decide if I really want to get up at 4:15.
@katharmonic My sister was telling me that she's been ordering her groceries online and just going and picking them up. It sounds really nice, but the grocery store here doesn't do it and I'd have to drive 30 miles to go pick them up.
@TheMrWobbly Good luck with the interview!
2020 races:
11/7/20: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon5 -
Just stopping in to say hi and throw hugs and so on where appropriate. Not in a very chatty mood atm and trying to keep myself busy while we wait for my father's operation. Made it a bit easier because we just bought a caravan and are in the process of ripping it apart to revamp it. To those who say Ikea tests marriages.... try renovating caravans! lol.
I'm running, partly because Hal tells me to and I'm pretty good at doing what Hal tells me to do. I'm still following the plan for the HM I would have been running on the 25th if it hadn't been cancelled. Dad's operation is on the 28th. For some strange reason, I seem to think as long as I run that HM anyway, even if alone and as a LSR rather than a race, everything will be ok. So of course I'll be doing it. The little worrier on my left shoulder keeps muttering about what the consequences will be if I do it and then everything isn't ok. So I tell her to shut up and go smash a bit of caravan.
I can't stop stuffing my face with food, either. I've been carb loading for this non-race for like a month now. Back in the days when I chain smoked I always said I didn't understand why people eat too much when they get stressed. I would just smoke yet another cigarette. Now I totally understand it. Where are the cookies?
Oh, by the way, I made a discovery! This second wave of you-know-what is getting nasty again here and I was tired of old people shouting at me for running without a mask, so I've started wearing it and pulling it down when there's nobody about. And my husband has discovered that my headphones mean I can talk on the phone while I run as long as I hold the phone in my hand. So he keeps phoning me to discuss something about the caravan. Talking on the phone through a mask while running is a GREAT way to make sure your pace is nice and easy!

wanted to run 3mi for my birthday yesterday, but a late scheduled meeting and my mom wanting to do lunch left no time for a run at all. Today is a bit odd since we are having our furnace inspected for a permit, but I blocked off time to make sure I got a run in today. 1.5mi with my pup! I'm a little shy of halfway for my miles at the halfway point in the month, so I am going to make sure I am getting my runs in the rest of the month. It should be slowing down here and not as busy, so hopefully last minute things stop cropping up.
10/1 - 3.1mi
10/2 - 2mi
10/5 - 3mi
10/7 - 3.25mi
10/12 - 3.5mi
10/15 - 1.5mi

@kristinajeang Happy Belated birthday! Lunch dates with moms are more important than runs, imo. But glad you got a run in today.3
-
@TheMrWobbly keep grinding. You'll thank yourself later.
@Mari33a you're getting there!
@noblsheep yeah, I am not ready to lift six days a week. lol. no. not yet.
@scott6255 and @Tramboman and @hamsterwheel6 - it was a nice run here too, 59F and cloudy. Tank, sleeves, hat, in case of rain. Really nice.
I've missed a lot of you because I've just received yet another phone call requesting help from a coworker.
I didn't get out as early as I planned this morning because I watched a scary movie with the kids last night and didn't get to bed til after 9, which is now "late" for me if I want to be up and out by 4am. So I had to decide if I was going to use the time I did have or just call it. Well. I decided to go out for thirty minutes and then do the other thirty tonight. Easy enough, plus now, I have less work to do tonight.
Happy running, keep going - @eleanorhawkins rotfl I struggle so bad with easy pace. I should try to talk on the phone will I run more often. By that I mean at least once.2 -
@camaramandy648 - I get up at 4:00 am also to run and I try so very hard to be in bed and asleep at 9:00 pm! I need at least 7 hours sleep but would prefer more!
Happy Belated Birthday @kristinajeang!3 -

@Teresa502 the 4am thing is new to me - I decided that if I am going to follow the coach's plan, I'm just going to have to schedule out my days and make use of every hour so that my goals don't take away from what the kids need, which is a mom who works and can provide and is also present.
They say it takes 21 days to build a habit, right? So what am I at, 18 days left and this will feel normal? hahaha So far, it's really not that bad, I'm doing more than I thought I could but also I'd like a nap! And a mani-pedi!
And new shoes!
Speaking of shoes - the week @pastorvincent passed, I had ordered and received some new Nike Miler reacts. They're supposed to be pretty good for stability. They will hopefully be fine until I can get some new Mizuno's. I'm not super sure about them yet, but this morning they did not seem to cause any knee pain, so we shall see.5 -

Of course!!!
If I wasn't so lazy, I'd do an 11 k once a week. That's 3 laps plus a little tail around the condo development.
Plus, I'll do 6.9k in honor of my 69th birthday when it rolls around.9 -
Hey all. Have just skimmed.
Calf feels OK, but looks like I'll be having a rest day anyway because I'm so tired. I was in call last night and basically did another full 8 hours. Got called at 6pm, and worked till 245am. Then awake at 8 cause kids.
So trying to get more sleep. Supposed to be at work at 1145. Have asked for the afternoon off.
So no running now till Monday. Probably for the best really.5 -
@eleanorhawkins I don't even know what my main stress point is right now, probably just a combination of smaller things, but I totally hear you on the stress eating. It reminds me of something @MobyCarp said about not being able to outrun our forks. So true.
I went past the pet shop tonight and saw they had a whole bunch of guinea pigs. I almost wanted to buy one. But we have too many already, and these were overpriced. So cute though. I came home and hugged one of ours. One of our kids said that one thing you can do when feeling stressed, is pretend you are holding and petting a guinea pig. Probably any pet will do. It does help. Might keep us from overeating, because our hands will be occupied.4 -
Just read the most recent posts.
Coach sent over MORE exercises . The structure is good and is exactly what I wanted but lord, 4am. and MORE exercises. MORE!!!! WHAT?!
This is fine....
@Avidkeo I do not do well on such little sleep. You are a superhero.
@polskagirl01 reading your post made me want to hug my dog and eat a reese's cup. I can have both right?
@Tramboman 69! You are so fortunate! Was just talking to Nick last weekend about how the women in my family haven't made it past 62. I am 35... 6.9 seems a lot more reasonable than asking you to run 69 miles! But maybe I could run 69 for your birthday!4 -

21 days is *kitten*. Past summers I got up at 4 am to run before heat hit. After 2 months I was over it and would start making excuses. LOL2 -

Hahaha!
Maybe we can do a "Wheezing Geezer" run on 2-28-2021. Any distance that includes a 6 and a 9 -- from 69 feet to 69 miles.7 -
Two runs since last post - did my long run Wednesday - 7 miles plus a walk. Perfect weather, would have been a very nice run except for some reason I felt like dying the whole way! I think because I started deadlifting heavy again after three weeks off to let my finger heal, so I started with tired legs.
My finger is fine now, btw, I did end up losing part of the nail bed and now that it’s healed I can see why it bled so much when it happened. You know that vein that is visible through your fingernail that runs around the top just under the quick? Yeah I sliced part of that right off! Yikes! Anyway thanks to the magic of hydrocolloidal bandages it reattached itself just as nicely as if a doctor stitched it up.
Today was my weekly grocery trot, where I run past the open field behind Kroger while my husband does the shopping. How long my run is depends on how lazy the grocery pickers are, since we put in a grocery order, pick it up, and then he goes in to get the things they claimed the store was out of. Today out of 42 items they only bothered to find 19! And the missing items were things that take time, such as waiting for meat to be cut. So I had a longer than usual run, 50 minutes or so.
A couple runs ago I figured that if I was going to keep running the same snippet of road every Thursday I should make my own Strava segment so I can track my progress against myself. I usually do this run super easy because I don’t want to get sweaty and then have to deal with putting groceries up, driving them out to my mom’s to do chores, etc. Today I was feeling spry so I said, I will try to run this a little better, still easy but you know, actually pick my feet up, make some sort of effort to hold my core stable, push off behind me instead of just waving my feet around wherever they fall, and so on. Get a good nice run and use it as a baseline for the segment so I can compare other runs to it. And I ended up with a mile PR on Strava! It’s not a real PR for me, I’ve only been using Strava 3 months, but it’s the best mile I’ve run since coming back from being injured. 8:44! And I wasn’t even aware I was running fast! I would have guessed it was about a ten minute mile.
This happened the last time my long runs started to be about 8 miles. I just get a monumental bonus to my easy pace when I do slightly longer long runs. Needless to say I’m pleased.
Nothing but kudzu!
I have no idea what these are... crabapples of some kind?
My bling from Erace Racism got here! Also: new shirt. From Decathlon. I really like everything I’ve gotten from them.8 -
@polskagirl01 Stay safe! I find I have to jump into/over the ditch sometimes when I hear vehicles coming. Is that an option?
2 -
Good luck with the job search @TheMrWobbly !
@polskagirl01 Sorry about the restaurant.
@Scott6255 Yeah for the great run!
@WandaVaughn I think that is an excellent place to end your race!
@kgirlhart Great run! Change is hard. Hope you enjoy your new job as much as you did the old one!
@eleanorhawkins Praying your dad's surgery goes well. Totally understand stress eating. Hugs to you!
Happy belated birthday @kristinajeang !
@rheddmobile Nice pace for that mile!!!!
3 -
Surgery isn't scheduled yet. Doing great after the heart cath. Just have to take it easy until I talk to them on Monday. I hope to hear about the surgery soon. I'll keep you posted.6

Current cumulative 67, October goal 100 or more. Just got an effective promotion that will result in job growth, a little more than 5000 additional a year. Looking forward to a 9.5 mile cool sunrise run tomorrow morning, and celebrating the promotion with a modest glass of a favorite bordeaux to accompany dinner. Still need more growth that edges me back into my field of training (thus the research proposals), but it's still a move forward, regardless if in my area of expertise.
Good wishes @ all those trying to improve I don't know yet since I just started this group.

Well, my HM scheduled for January just went virtual. 😫 I should have expected it. It's a large race with tons of sponsors and it was a high likelihood of going virtual, but I was still holding out hope. Well, that's over. I don't get excited about virtual events, and am especially not excited about trying to race a HM around my neighborhood. So, I'm going to defer to next year.
Maybe I can find a smaller local race that month. I miss racing.7 -
Happy Birthday @kristinajeang!1

Re hugging pets and stuffing face... I could totally hug my daughter's pet rabbit while I ram chocolate in my mouth! But yeah, fluffy cuddles are always good :-)
Who can run on the 11th of November and would like to join me for this? Free virtual relay marathon! We should have at least one MFP team in honour of our departed marathoners...
ETA: I started to sign myself up for it but there are various options for teams so I'll wait and see who wants to join in. If anyone. It's set up for teams of 6: 2 x 10k legs, 3 x 5k legs and a final 7.whatever the last bit is leg. Let me know if you wanna join me!
