Great race, @katharmonic!!!!
Totally skimmed. I hate when time is so limited that I have to do that.
@Tramboman it has been cold cold cold at 4am here. Usually low to mid 30sF, but the evenings are usually in the 40's and 50s, so I can still wear shorts and tank.
I keep wanting to shop for hot and cold weather gear because running stuff but I did laundry last night and I am pretty sure I do not need more running stuff. The running stuff pile was as tall as the kids' piles and my pile. Perspective is everything. Once you start stacking everything you have, you will realize that you were never really lacking.
Did a trail ultra Saturday. My best friend was with me for the first 20, was on my own the last 7.54. Apparently, it gets VERY dark on the trail at night. We didn't intend to stay out there so late and I was SURE I could see the eyes of a cougar because I wasn't wearing my glasses so not only could I not see, I REALLY couldn't see. It wasn't a cougar, Nick convinced me we were not about to die. It was just the lit windows of a locked trail bathroom. If I am every in a race where the requirement is to keep your eyes closed or be blindfolded, I'll probably be all right.
Didn't entirely avoid lightning and rain but I just kept pushing because I felt like I had more to give and I wasn't stopping until I had given it everything.
Did 5 yesterday early.
Weekly mileage: 61.5
I miss @PastorVincent
Also on Saturday, Nick told me that he and Sophie (his wife) will NOT be coming with me to do this 100 mile run in Indiana in December. So that's neat. After months of planning. Talked to my big brother about dropping it down to just 50 since we already know I can do that solo and he said, "You still have ME!" So we're doing this. I will still run the 100. Terrified? Eh. Mortified? Meh. Excited? HELL. YES.
Kogolla is out of the lighting system that I need for this venture for the next two weeks so I was thinking I might just have it sent to my brother's house. They're very expensive. I like that it has a battery back with 3 ports and the lights are 800 lumens that light up a whole area, not just the zone in front, and it goes around the waist, not the head. We'll see what I end up with. I don't know.
Also the race in TX this weekend went virtual but I already made all the arrangements to go down there and run this trail in terms of kids, work, dog. So I'm still going. I'm still running this particular race even if nobody else will be there. I already committed to it. I'm doing it. I just need to solidify where I am going to sleep Friday night, rotfl.
Schools went virtual as of today so I may be working from home very soon because I didn't do that last time and it didn't benefit my family really at all - just added stress. Now, i think if I have to sit with my teenager all day every day somebody might get slapped (just kidding), so I may actually WANT to come to work. I don't know. Play it by ear. I have the flexibility to not have to know right now.
My son's school has NOT gone virtual, which I find extremely odd.
Anyway. Same as it ever was.
How are all of YOU?6 -

Congratulations @katharmonic!!!! You did amazing! Well done!
2 -
@Camaramandy648 You are amazing with all you do. I'm sorry you lost part of your support for the 100 mile run in December, but sounds like your brother is stepping up. Yeah for family! Have fun with the virtual race this weekend.1
-
@katharmonic Fantastic race and time! And thanks on my "stuff" Still dealing.
To top it off, I sprained my foot on Friday - and not while running. It was quite funny if it didn't hurt so much. It's better, though still a bit painful - so no running but cycling seems ok. Yeah. 2020 needs to end.
Hugs and congrats to all the great running!7 -
skippygirlsmom wrote: »@brittanystebbins95 that harness for the leash is pretty intense looking.
It looks complicated but they're so nice. It evenly distributes load pretty easily, which is awesome if your dog pulls while you run with them. And I've managed my reactive dog for almost 8 years now without him ever escaping from me.2 -
@Camaramandy648 Ain't nothing but a thing...1

Morning guys!
I've been away for the weekend up north. Went up with a couple of ladies from work for a study day, and took an extended weekend. The study day was good, the break was even better. I ate all the food, did a lot of driving, and I ran! Yesterday my recovery plan called for a 20 minute run. The longest I've ran since the injury. And I wasn't going to miss it! And I did it, pain free! I could have kept going, I'm being good and following the plan.
Woo hoo!
For the break away I took one of the ladies over to the part of the country I used to live in. It was a 2hr drive from where the study day was. We stayed just down the road from my old house! We got there in time for sunset, and got up the next day to visit Tane Mahuta - the oldest tree in NZ. Then met a friend for lunch and drove back to the town the study day was in, and stayed in a Bach (holiday home) that the other lady owned. Yesterday we went for a big hike around the heads in the morning - including a skinny dip in the sea which was so warm! Then a kayak in the afternoon before heading home.
Has a blast!
Sunset on the west coast where I used to live.
Tane Mahuta one of the largest and oldest trees in NZ. Estimated to be 2000 years old. Its 50m high (165 feet) and 14m girth (46 feet)

@quilteryoyo thank you!
Funny you say that about family. Because. I have five siblings and haven't seen my oldest brother or my twin brother since our mother died in 2016. my friend that ran with me saturday was so surprised! He said, "Oh wow! I thought you must see them all the time!" Pfft. No, not at all. Like if I didn't go up there next month, I don't know when I would see my oldest brother again. If ever.
My three sisters, I haven't seen in as much time for one of them less a year, and the other two I haven't seen in a year.
@hamsterwheel6 Dangit about that foot! I hope you feel better soon! Also with the "stuff," yeah I get it. 2020 does need to end.
@Tramboman yep! Aint nothin but a thang. I'm gonna do it anyway. It'll just be different and harder than I anticipated, but that's the way of this life, isn't it?
@Avidkeo Gorgeous photos and YAY for RUNNING with NO PAIN!

Hi all, quick post and dash as it’s getting late. Got 4.3 miles in the dark this morning. Was aiming to do 5 but I got held up and left too late.
Great running from everyone and great racing @katharmonic! Good to see you @Camaramandy648 - still inspirational! I miss Pastor Vincent on here too. Think of him often when I run through a nice sunrise. Hope his wife and son are ok.
Got to sleep now but hugs and high fives to you all. X

11/2 Ran 3.0 miles – Walked 1.0 mile – Treadmill
11/3 Rest day – 11,626 steps
11/4 Ran 3.0 miles – Walked 1.0 mile – Treadmill
11/5 Helped saw wood – 11,266 steps
11/6 Ran 3.0 miles – Walked 1.50 miles – Field and Driveway laps
11/7 Roan Mountain 10K – According to Garmin, I actually did 6.33 miles
11/8 Rest day – 11,555 steps
11/9 Ran 3.0 miles – Walked 1.5 miles – Field and Driveway laps
11/10 No Run Day - Worked in the leaves
11/11 Rest day – 9,273 steps
11/12 Ran 3.5 miles – Walked 1.0 mile – Driveway laps
11/13 Rest day – 11,408 steps
11/14 Ran 3.6 miles – Walked 1.5 miles – Driveway laps and worked in the leaves again
11/15 Rest day – 11,484 steps
11/16 Ran 3.0 miles – Walked 0.75 miles – Treadmill and sawed wood
I decided to do a treadmill session today, simply because I wanted to control my speed and incline to keep it easy. I have a hard time doing that running driveway laps. I did my half mile warm up walk and was almost done with the 3 mile run when my dad called to say they would be up in about 15 minutes to saw wood. So, I cut the cool down walk short, did 0.25 miles, and walked down the driveway to help them. I heaved a log chain around a couple of big limbs so dad could use the tractor to pull them to where he could saw them up. Also helped load the wood and move the logs around. So, it does keep my HR up...I guess it's sort of like interval strength training. LOL

Thanks @Camaramandy648 and @quilteryoyo ...it’s not as swollen today. I twisted it inward so the side of the big toe and underneath (arch). Able to walk better now, so maybe another day or so.
Great pics @Avidkeo
@HonuNui Yes! Love that. Lol3 -
Thank you all so much for the kudos on my race. I am still feeling a bit of a post-race high, which helped ease the start of the work week.
@hamsterwheel6 sorry about the sprain - glad it's feeling a little better already.
@polskagirl01 nice job on the hills - looks like a very nice place to do them.
@Camaramandy648 hope all works out for your big plans for the 100 mile. I can't imagine, but you are one determined and tough runner so I know you'll get it done. Good luck with your virtual race on the actual course this weekend, and juggling everything with the working at home decision and kids at home and at school.
@Avidkeo oh, so lovely! Fully envious right now of being there.
@quilteryoyo - definitely some impressive interval training there. Sounds like a lot of work - good job!

I tried to leave work early enough to get the dog walked and maybe a run in before dark and before I went to the gym for strength training. I didn't quite get out early enough so I had to combine the dog and the run, which as always is a bit of trial. We managed about 22 minutes of running and maybe 20 more of walking. It got a little dark on the trail so I walked a bit more at the end so I wouldn't trip. I had a flashlight and Stella had her light up harness but I didn't have my headlamp or lighted vest for myself - I miscalculated on how long we'd be in the woods and the sunset time. I mean it was still just after 5! I can't get used to the early dark.
After we got home I changed and had a snack and then headed to the gym. I had time for a 5 minute treadmill warmup before strength training. I told my trainer my legs were not sore from the race but as soon as we started to do squats and lunges I revised that a bit.7 -
@Avidkeo beautiful pictures! I'm sure it's 1000x better in person, too.1
-
I didn’t run on Sunday due to multiple work calls/issues throughout the day. Garmin had a one mile time trial scheduled, so I moved it to last night. Although I was very pleased with my time, as it was a faster pace than usual, Garmin rated it as “room for improvement.” Grrr. 2.83 miles with warmup and cool down.
Busy day at work, and then I have my Pump class tonight.

So however your day is going, at least you’re not this guy we passed yesterday on the way back from our run.
This is only a couple miles down the road from the firehouse, and a big fire truck and fire marshal’s suv were already audible in the distance as we passed. I have no idea what happened, looks like the hood was already open when the fire started but the whole cab was just engulfed. Never saw a human being actually walking around pulling his hair except in a TV commercial, the guy just looked like he was in shock. Looks like it used to be a nice truck!5 -

@hamsterwheel6 Glad your ankle is feeling some better already. Hope it continues to heal quickly.
@katharmonic Being in the woods probably made it a little bit darker than if you hadn't been in the woods. I highly dislike the early dark days too. Great job on getting in your run/walk.
@marisap2010 Stupid Garmin. What does he know anyway?! I say Great job on a faster than normal time!
@rheddmobile Oh no! Hope he has good insurance.
Great timing on the rest day @Tramboman ! It's sunny here, but wind chill is supposed to be in the mid-30's today. I don't do well with a cold wind. Yeah for new shoes too!2 -
Didn't feel like bundling up for the cold this morning, so jumped on the treadmill for 5 miles. Not my favorite thing to do at 4am, but better than nothing.
7 -
That's commitment @Scott6255
Jealous of the new shoes @Tramboman as I have to wait until Christmas to get the ones I bought in September!
The little fire extinguisher in front of the lock up on the right looks like my dog if it ever saw a bear @rheddmobile full of enthusiasm but doesn't stand a chance!
Good to see you are on the mend @hamsterwheel6
It was supposed to be a run day today though I got caught up at home and was short on time so cycled to work I might run home if it is not too dark when I leave.6 -
@rheddmobile that is a bad day caught on photo for sure. Poor guy. @TheMrWobbly such a perfect analogy - I didn't catch the little fire extinguisher but that's exactly it - all attitude, but no hope.

It's snowing! Just a little bit but it's here. I think it's going back to rain and then maybe back to snow again tonight. I headed out of the house this morning intending to run outside and then change for yoga class. But I was halfway to the gym and realized I forgot my yoga mat, and due to covid they don't have any to borrow of course so I headed back and grabbed it. I decided the short time I had left was not worth the outside run so I peeled off a layer and ran a few minutes on the treadmill. Then did yoga and finished up with another 2 miles treadmill running. Not the original plan, but at least the run is checked off for today.

@Tramboman enjoy the rest day and then new shoes day!
@rheddmobile with a truck like that I can only hope he has decent insurance, but still, man...
Today was long run day and I took it slow - to the same forest I drove to yesterday, through the forest and then back, checking out a bunch of side paths, most of which turned out to be difficult to walk on, let alone run. It was slow, but my longest run this year (29k) and I'm not even sure why I'm going so long when I'm not training for anything. I did mostly enjoy it, though... and I've been in a deficit trying to lose a couple of pesky kg and now I can have fish & chips today and still stay on track.

sigh, covid scare. i had to quarantine after one of my students found out someone at his work had covid. and one of my students come in contact with someone who had it. so....
got my test, negative. but i have a cold.
one day, i'll make it to a group run. this morning was not that day.
weather has turned to winter weather. Speed Demon is not thrilled.
I still have Bob the doberman. My dogs are totally done with this foster. He's sweet, not smart, and an obstinate teenager. He's lucky he gives such good snuggles.7 -

@quilteryoyo yeah, definitely interval strength and cross training, lol.
@rheddmobile just. WOW. I have seen that one other time in my life. Mortifying.
@Tramboman you sound like me! Shoes and rest! hahahahaha yesterday was a rest day for me and the kids and I were so ridiculous after we got back from therapy that we put a shirt on our dog. He really does put up with a lot. Still did some foam rolling and stretching. Mid-30s this morning. I was so ready to go that I never felt as cold as I probably should have. My music went from lil wayne to Lorde to Queen and stayed on Queen. Because I get it from my mama. I was having a lot of fun with it. It always feels like dancing. Kinda hard to keep the head bobbing but with every step I can feel the beat in my bones. Anyway. It was a good run.
@katharmonic thank you so much! She did well yesterday and is so far doing well today - I hope it continues. I am at work because the project i am working on right now requires all three monitors. If I go home, I will only have 1. That's not going to work. 2020 has been very difficult in terms of managing the needs of everyone. After this project, though. maybe then I can go home and check in. Also, just booked a cheap stay in TX so I can go run this crazy course, rotfl. It's gonna be great and weird and a little crazy, but what else is there?
@Faebert yes! I think of him all the time. I haven't heard from Kristi in a bit - I will check in and see how they are doing and report back.
My big brother and his best friend (and thereby basically my other big brother) are going to track and crew me, now for the 100 miler. I'm just going to do it. I've invested everything, at no expense to anyone but me, into this and I am not going to let two people just being people stop me.
mama mia, let me go!
Anyway, I hope you all have a great day. I really do have to get back to work but I love you bunches and you are all my favorite people.
7 -
Nice run @polskagirl01 ! Don't we all run so we can eat what we want? Wish I had an area like that to run in.
@mbaker566 Glad your test came back negative. Bob is adorable. Poor Speed Demon. Tippy loves the colder weather.
@Camaramandy648 Glad you had a good run. You are awesome for all you do.
