Logging 2 runs again. The weather here has been amazing this week. Upper 40's in the morning with highs in the mid 70's. It is my favorite weather! Got going a little too late for my run this morning, so I'll do it tomorrow after work.
There is a trail I run for easy runs and I see the same guy and 1 of his dogs when I do it in the morning. He has 2 - Hank and Maggie, both yellow labs. They are both really friendly and generally ignore me even though he has them off leash. He always says good morning because we are in TX and that's what we do here! Anyway, I ran into him yesterday out for the morning walk with Maggie and a woman I am assuming is his wife. I ended up passing them twice on my out-and-back and on the way back he says "We were just talking about how effortlessly you run." I told him thanks, but it doesn't feel very effortless! It made me feel good though. I often feel like I'm struggling and slow, but apparently to someone who doesn't run I appear effortless! I'll take it.9 -
@quilteryoyo I have had a few dreams about running. Usually it feels like running on the moon with supper long floaty strides and none of the pain. And I'm usually in the woods. Oddly enough, I don't dream about running when I'm actually running regularly. The dreams have always popped up when I stopped for some reason.
@polskagirl01 You always seem to run/ride in the prettiest places!
@62Rich Welcome!
@Avidkeo I'm so glad to see you back to running without pain! Awesome!2 -
@Teresa502 let me know there was a good picture of me from the Roan Mountain 10K. First picture I have seen of myself with both feet off the ground - barely. So, I bought it.

Awesome picture, I have that shirt @quilteryoyo1

Being in a chariot race is fine, as long as you're Ben Hur. It's not so good if you're Messala.
I've never seen a race picture of me smiling. There's always a grimace of pain on my face.3 -
-
@quilteryoyo great picture! No, I don't have running dreams. Most of mine are about school, and I never know my schedule. EVERY DREAM I am lost and have no idea what class I am supposed to go to next. Yeah, subliminal messages there for sure.
@skippygirlsmom Yay for good blood work and losing the 25 lbs.
@martaindale that is an AWESOME compliment! I sometimes feel like I am running effortlessly, but in reality I know I look like Jerry Lewis
Thanks for the shipping update @Camaramandy648!
@avidkeo so glad to hear you are doing so well on your recovery!

@Teresa502 I have the bathroom dreams, too! Like I need to use one but there is something wrong with it (co-ed, no doors, weird shapes or unstable when you try to sit on it, unclean in the grossest ways imaginable). Typically it happens when I really do need to get up and go, so I guess it's good that they aren't operational in the dream or I might go for real!
@skippygirlsmom it might be... but I seriously doubt anyone was hunting then, with the logging work going on, and the guys with chainsaws not far from the stand. Also hunting is not very popular here, and is highly regulated. But I did just go online and found all the dates and locations for all of the group hunting days for the rest of this season (they have to be approved in advance and published by the local government). It's at the most 2 days a month, spread across different locations, so avoiding it shouldn't be a problem. And I won't take the side paths anymore anyway because they aren't runnable. The main paths have enough people passing through that individual hunters are not likely to set up base near them.
@quilteryoyo the chariot race sounds awesome. Yes, I've had race dreams, too. My standard bad dreams have either tornadoes (started when I was a teenager, after a tornado destroyed a bunch of buildings in my boyfriend's town) and planes falling from the sky (you can guess when those started). Actually though, at this point either of those things now makes me realize I'm dreaming. When I'm stressed or in transition, I have more strange dreams. And sometimes I have really meaningful dreams, too.
@Camaramandy648 cool on the medals! I can't wait!
ETA @Scott6255 Oh man, I hate the school dreams. Usually I'm lost and realize I've missed a class all semester or something.5 -

THAT is a great race picture!1 -
@martaindale That is a great compliment.
@Tramboman Maybe that's why I wanted to watch the chariot race and not be in it.
@polskagirl01 @Teresa502 and @Scott6255 I have all of those dreams too - needing to pee and can't find a workable/open bathroom, and school dreams where I am either lost and can't find my locker or building and realizing that I've missed a class all semester. And yes, I think stress is a factor in weird dreams. I had some really meaningful and helpful dreams after my husband passed away, once I analyzed them.
5 -
@quilteryoyo I have the bathroom dream all the time
@polskagirl01 I'm glad no one will be shooting at you :-)
1 -
@quilteryoyo that is a fabulous picture. I love it. You should frame that one, you look so happy and you're flying!
Oh man, the school-related dreams. I am a professor so that probably contributes to an abundance of class related dreams but I especially get (and hate) the one where I forgot to go to a class all semester and have to take the final. Stress is a funny thing in the brain.
@martaindale looking effortless is a huge compliment, how nice!

Well, I set myself up for this, but I skipped out on run group tonight. I really didn't want to take the time when I have a lot to get ready for tomorrow at work. But more importantly my lower back is a bit twingey on top of my all over soreness from the workouts. I did not want to risk speedwork when I knew my gait and alignment are going to be off and my back is already tight. I've been there before and ended up in terrible pain. So taking the safe route I just took Stella out for 20 minutes of running the neighborhood after work with our lighted vests. My back felt perhaps slightly better after running than it had from sitting around all day. Hopefully it's all good in the next couple of days.

I ran 6 miles this morning. It was a good run. Not quite as chilly as yesterday, but still pretty cool. The sky was clear and there were lots of stars out. I'm glad I had a good run, because the rest of my day kind of sucked. Nothing specific, just lots of stresses. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. I haven't had a chance to read the thread today so I think I will try to get caught up and then go to bed.
2020 races:
11/7/20: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon5 -
Photos were uploaded from the race I did on Sunday. Here's a rare for 2020 finish line photo!10
-
Nice easy run in the forest today, 6k total, included a little turn through the abandoned military base
Then [since we found the missing weight selection pin and I have no excuse] I did my little routine on the weight machine. It's been a while, but the thing is sitting there taking up space, I might as well use it!
November Goal - 100 Miles
"40 weeks of 40" - 3 Weeks DONE! /49 weeks left to complete the challenge7 -
Wow, every time I check in here I'm like 100 posts behind! Saw a new face (sorry, I suck at names), welcome, we all started somewhere, don't be daunted by some of the huge and crazy numbers and feats you'll see round here, they're all nice even if they're not entirely human ;-)
@quilteryoyo that is such an excellent photo! Chariot racing in a triathlon sounds very cool :-) I went to school with Ben Cross's daughter Lauren for a while when I was about 11 or so. I vividly remember a sleepover at their house (no Ben, they were separated by then I think) out in the countryside. We walked down a dirt track to a nearby village to buy candy, put lemon juice on our elbows before sunbathing (wth?) and then I couldn't sleep because the house was a huge Spanish cortijo with a fountain in the central patio and the sound it made had me needing to pee ALL night. However, I can barely remember what I had for dinner last night. Guess I'm getting old.
Dad saw the oncology team yesterday. The tumour was grade 3, they're doing 6 weeks of daily radiotherapy followed by chemo. My little half sister told me by message. I want to phone him, but I'm *kitten* at this stuff and will just cry down the phone and that's not gonna help.
So I went out and ran my fastest mile and 2nd fastest 5k this morning instead. Apparently nasty emotions make me run fast(er). Guess if I want that elusive HM PR I need someone to upset me before the race. Funniest thing is yesterday's run was tough and super slow, and at one point I remember thinking maybe I'm just going to get slower and slower until I end up running backwards.

Thanks everyone who commented on my picture. I thought it was a good one too - love that I'm flying. I probably will frame it.
@katharmonic I hope your back is feeling better today. Sounds like you were smart to skip the group run. Love your finish line photo! It sure is a rare shot for 2020.
@kgirlhart Glad you had a good run. Hope today is a lot less sucky for you.
@polskagirl01 That looks like a great place for a horror movie. Yeah for the good run and weights workout.eleanorhawkins wrote: »Wow, every time I check in here I'm like 100 posts behind! Love your childhood memory. There are some things that just make such an impact on us that we remember. Last night's dinner was, apparently, not one of those things. Glad your dad has a plan in place and praying that all goes well. I understand the stress and not wanting to cry on the phone. I'm sure, when you can, he would love to hear your voice. Also, I'm sure if you really want us to, we could figure out a way to upset you on the day of your HM. Just let us know.

Ran 6 miles this morning. On paper it looked like an easy run, but it felt anything but. Probably just stress.

@eleanorhawkins I always get a PR on military press after fighting with my mom. It’s like “grr, I can think of fifteen things I should have said...” and whoops, there the weight is in the air!
@quilteryoyo That is a great pic! My mom doesn’t do it anymore but she has done chariot races and some of her friends still borrow her horse for them. They aren’t called that, I can’t remember what the technical name for them is right now. I grew up riding hunter/jumpers and driving is still mysterious to me, but my mom took up driving when she got too old to feel secure riding. The obstacle course is like barrel racing but driving instead of riding. You have a team of people including a driver and people who hang on and lean to keep the carriage wheels on the ground!
We did our 8 mile long run yesterday. It was chilly and we went out way too fast for an easy run - first 5k was 30:04 which is not right considering our recent long runs have been about 11 minute mile pace. Slowed down after that, kept going and finished with no problems. My legs feel a little beat up today though!7 -

Sunny, 40 degrees F, and breezy today. One of those tweeners where it's too warm for full winter gear and too windy for less than full winter gear. I always figure that sweating is better than shivering.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

That is a great race pic. You look like you're having a wonderful time.
I too get the school dreams. The last one involved me having to go back to high school because somehow I didn't actually get a high school diploma before I went to college. Dream logic. But, anyway I didn't know about it until I had already missed most of the semester. I'm wandering around this huge campus trying to find classes and worrying that I'm about to flunk out. It was super stressful.3 -
@rheddmobile That's so cool that your mom used to do "chariot races." Great job on the long run.
@Tramboman I'm with you...better to sweat than shiver.
@martaindale School dreams do always seem to be really stressful.2 -

Wow, small world (sort of). When I left school I actually worked in exactly that for a few years. We called it Marathon Driving here. I got into it after a few nasty falls put me off riding, but not horses. I was the idiot that tried to hang on the back and keep the wheels on the ground, not very successfully as I only weighed about 50 kilos back then (grooms were paid very little, I was 19 and pretty much lived on cereal and cheese sandwiches, and a takeaway pizza once a month on pay day!). On the other hand, I was a dab hand at flying through the air! Good times. I was also the only female on the competition circuits here in Spain in those days, which was, umm, interesting and is probably the reason I'm more confident that I should be when running alone. Enough said. Still good times. I really, really miss horses.

Marathon driving! That’s it.
I was too young to be a paid groom when I was really into horses, but I spent a summer as a working student, which mostly involved working out horses for rich people who only rode on weekends, letting out to pasture and feeding, mucking stalls, cleaning tack, and getting up before dawn on show days to braid manes and tails. We were slave labor but it was the best summer of my life!3 -
skippygirlsmom wrote: »@polskagirl01 I’d love to run through that old base
The Marathon Driving discussion is great! I had never even heard of that before. @eleanorhawkins do you have pictures of you doing that?3 -
@polskagirl01 I think I have a few in a box somewhere from dressage days, but none from the obstacles which is the fun part. The competitions were 3 day events, a version of horseback 3 day eventing adapted to carriage-driving: day 1 was dressage, day 2 was cross-country and obstacles and day 3 was basically another obstacle course in a ring, instead of jumps they set out cones and you have to pass between them in a particular order (and direction) without touching them. If you're interested go to YouTube and search for 'marathon driving obstacles' :-)

So I'm going to fall about 12 miles short of goal if I stick to my plan.
I can either:
Add additional run days (Fridays probably)
Add additional mileage to each day (1.34 per run)
Some combo of the above
I'll have to think on this. I can do more mileage next week (no work!) LOL6
