Little pace work today. It was lovely outside. The run was hard but felt great.
Now my watch is not working. Hopefully I can get it up and running asap. It hasn't ever given me any real issues.4 -
Iβll never catch up. Iβm sorry.
120 posts behind.
Ran an ultra Sunday. Got to push my my friend to his first ultra distance! Yay! What a moment! What my legs really needed after that was the two hour drive to get the kids! π
Still going. Still grinding.
Signed up for the Indiana Trail 100 in Oct 2021. The dream was never for naught. It just wasnβt going to be the way we thought. My brother is all the way in.
We are quarantined again. Working from home. 2 very sick kids. Lots of tests today.
Good thing i got into the 4am habit when i did. Itβs really working out to everybodyβs advantage!10 -
if you already have a blister on the back of your heel, how do you protect the area when you run again?
a rock got in my shoe and now i've got a broken blister.

@polskagirl01 Hahaha about the guy being shocked that you were running on purpose. But, I guess it was nice of him to make sure you were okay and didn't need anything. Way to run in the cold.
@katharmonic So sorry that the hamstring is acting up again. I hope the message helps.
@martaindale I hope you were able to get your watch working again.
@Camaramandy648 Hope your kids start feeling better soon! You are doing awesome with your runs.
Mom, dad, and I are still doing good today. Mom is feeling like she has a cold. Our neighbor is going by the pharmacy to get all of the OTC drugs the doctor's said to take. In case you are interested, the most prevalent items mentioned are Vitamin C and Zinc. We had already been taking both of these, so hoping it is helping to keep the symptoms at bay. Otherwise, it is medicines to treat potential symptoms like fever, cough, and congestion.6 -
@quilteryoyo I am so sorry both parents are positive Like everyone, hope the symptoms are mild and you ALL can get through this quickly. Really, really bad timing. Hope the surgery can get re-scheduled soon.
Didn't run yesterday because I was so dejected that my truck repair didn't go well (also wanted my blister to heal a bit). This morning I took off work and re-did the repair that didn't work on Sunday. I think I got it right this time. So I finished up and went for a short run before heading out to work. I have to say, running in the afternoon feels a lot easier than 4:30am π Who knew? I think my joints and muscles got warmed up and stretched while doing the truck repair. Will probably switch to running after work now anyway since it is getting too cold (for me) to run in the mornings.

Yesterdayβs run was a trail run, since my heel is still sore we ran on the near side of the river where the trails are dirt instead of gravel. Nice run but my clothing choices just didnβt work - bitter freezing wind while walking then overheated while running. Also my headband which is necessary to keep my ears from freezing in the wind got wet with sweat then made my ears cold. It was a very pretty day to look at, just not so comfortable to run in!
I did have one little victory. Since we have been running the far side of the river where there arenβt really any technical parts, my footwork has gotten sloppy and my feet started dragging when it came to hopping over exposed roots, especially towards the end when I was tired. The lugs on my trail shoes are really big and it seemed like they wanted to grab onto every root and stick! I nearly tripped a couple times, my husband did trip and he said, be extra careful, we are both tired. Yep, yep, trying - and about then, I really did catch my sole on a hidden root and felt that old familiar sensation of being catapulted face first into the ground! You know the feeling, when itβs too late to do anything but just enjoy the ride as the dirt rushes up at your face. But then! I shouted out loud and leaped forward with my other foot, managed to free my stuck foot, stumbled six steps like a mad person, and then straightened out and kept running! YEAH! I felt like an Olympic gymnast when they come flying off the uneven bars and nearly overrotate and fall, but then manage to pull it out and stick the landing! And I am very happy not to be spending Christmas with an odd patchwork of purple bruises all over my body, which is what usually happens when I fall on a trail!10 -
@rheddmobile great way to "save face"!
@Scott6255 I'm glad you got the truck repair figured out!
@quilteryoyo great advice about things to take. Don't forget good hydration and lots of rest!3 -
@Scott6255 Glad you finally got your truck repaired and found out that running in the afternoon isn't too bad.
@rheddmobile Yeah for those gymnastic moves. You deserve a gold medal! Great run in the cold.
Oh yes, @polskagirl01 ! Rest and lots of liquids.2 -

@rheddmobile I never trip on the trail when itβs hard I trip on the flats, I get all stupid and stop paying as much attention and wham Iβm down.
Skip and I went out for 6 tonight but she needed to use the bathroom so we stopped at my friendβs house, of course that became a talk talk talk and then we left to finish and I had cooled down and was sweaty so now freezing so we did the mile home from her house and called it a night ha ha

Still no run for me. My hip is improving, but still not 100%. I am trying to be patient and let it get better. I've been doing some gentle yoga and it helps, at least it helps my frame of mind.11

Morning update on the family situation below. Not at all running related.Dad's oxygen level was low this morning and he felt lousy. He hasn't been sleeping much either. I called and talked to the VA nurse triage line, just to see if I should bring him to the VA or call 911. Turns out neither was warranted. I had been told by a nurse friend that if his oxygen got below 90 to call 911 so they could start treatment right away. The VA nurse, whom I feel may be a little more versed in CoVID, at least the VA protocol, said that if it is consistently 85 or below for 2 hours (never in that time gets above 85) to call back and they would set him up with an appointment with his doctor (not the one that gave this to us). She said major issues don't start until it is consistently 81 or below for like 5 hours.
I had called mom and dad on my cell phone to help get information for the triage, while talking to the nurse on my landline. That was interesting - trying to get mom to understand what I was doing and get straight answers. Anyway, while we were talking, they checked his oxygen level again and it was 91%. So, I think he is going to be ok. He isn't convinced though. When he thought he was going to the hospital, he told mom "I probably won't be back." Made mom cry. Makes me cry too. I wish I could transfer a positive attitude to him, but I can't. Just praying that he is okay. This is day 5. Half way to being all better, I hope.
Mom and I are doing good today.13 -

@quilteryoyo thatβs good information you received from the VA nurse. Itβs gotta be especially scary for our elderly when they get sick. So my bossβ dad (in his 80s) with all kinds of heart issues, like has 50% function of his heart got COVID, he came home last week and is doing quite well. We have a local WWII vet, just turned 104 this weekend who tested positive was in the hospital and recovered to celebrate 104. Tell him itβs definitely survivable in our elderly or more mature family members.
@kgirlhart glad the hip is feeling better

@quilteryoyo my heart goes out to you all, I can relate so much to how you're feeling. The information you were given sounds sound though.
My dad started radiotherapy yesterday. He's now convinced, having survived brain surgery (though he claims they cut half his brain out and he's stupid now), that they're going to fry him. He's upset because they told him he will probably never be allowed to drive again, certainly not for a few years, and he's fretting about getting rid of his car because he doesn't want it to just sit in the driveway.
Man, this year sucks.
You'll all be pleased to hear that the run-up to Christmas has officially started now... I just had my annual meltdown over an attempt to make veggie sausage rolls to stick in the freezer. EVERY YEAR the same thing happens, EVERY YEAR I say never again. This year I'm writing a note on the recipe to my future self: "Don't bother!"
Facebook reminded me it's 2 years today since I ran my first half. I was amused to see, when I looked on there after my run, that I was wearing the same leggings and socks I ran in this morning. Yet my husband still claims I spend too much on running stuff.10 -
