I can relate to both of you. I've been successful here before, but then lost my way. 2020 was especially hard on me as I'm sure it was on so many. It's great to know we aren't alone in our struggles. It seems we've come back to the right place!6 -
Wednesday weigh in
Highest weight: 435 (11/1/18)--lost 50 lbs. by the end of 2018 but got off track and gained back almost 31 lbs.
SW: 415.8 (4/17/19)
12/31: 175.6
1/6: 174.4
1/13: 175.4
1/20:

1/31:
Jan. GW: 172
GW: 160 (then reevaluate)
Weekly exercise goals:
- exercise bike 5 times per week: 5/5
- strength training 2 times per week: 2/2
- chair yoga 4 times per week: 3/4
- step ups on aerobic step platform twice a day at least 3 times per week: 2/3
- bonus: 2 hikes (just a bit less than an hour each)
I didn't hit all my exercise goals but came close plus I got to go for a couple short hikes for the first time since Covid hit my parents and I had to quarantine a couple times after taking them to the doctor/hospital. I enjoy winter hiking more than winter biking--less wind resistance when hiking compared to biking so I don't get as cold.
The scale didn't go in the right direction this week but I know I'm retaining a bit of water and that I didn't eat above maintenance. I did see 173.6 earlier in the week so hopefully the water weight will be gone next week.
My parents are continuing to improve so that's good news. It's slow going but at least it's improvement.
Today I hit another milestone: I've been eating at a deficit for 21 months now. During that time, I've lost (with the gain this week) just over 240 pounds and I've gained so much more mobility and improvement in my health. Looking back, it's hard to believe how much better and easier my life has become. A lot of things I can do now still don't seem real. I still have things to improve related to my physical fitness but I'm so grateful for the changes I've already seen. This journey, struggles and all, has been so, so worth it!
Hope you all are well and stay safe!13 -
@muttiNB Wow, just wow. The progress you've made in 21 months is phenomenal! It inspires me to be patient. It reminds me that if I take it slow and easy and just do the simple things like log in the foods and exercises, the weight will come off. And physically & mentally I will feel better. I really think these kinds of reminders are helpful for those of us who have more than 10 or 20 pounds to lose. We are in it for the long haul.
Hello to all the new people! We are going to crush this weight loss thing in 2021 !!!4 -
@GrammaLisaGetsMoving Yes, it takes a lot of patience, especially when the scale doesn't cooperate! And patience isn't necessarily my strong suit. I set a bunch of goals when I first started and one of them was to just log my food for 13 weeks. Then, when I added exercise, it was just log my food and exercise for 13 more weeks. And so on. As long as I logged my food (& exercise), I met my goal. It didn't matter what the scale said, I was creating a habit that I currently plan to have for the rest of my life. The scale results will follow eventually. We really are in it for the long haul!11

@AlexandraFindsHerself1971 - my cup size didn't really start to shrink until the last 10 pounds. And it was kind of sudden - like it was the only place I was losing weight. I'm sure that's not accurate, but that what it felt like when suddenly my 36 DD cups were half empty. I'm now in a 34 D. Anyway, I hope you get there and that you won't have to wait until the very end for it to happen.3
-
@MuttiNM That's incredible! How do you find the time to exercise this much? Or how did you fit it into your day and made it routine? I really hope your parents are doing okay.
@emmclean @RunLik3YouM3anIt @kaechelle1977 I am also here...again. I think many of us aren't new to this. We keep coming back and having a go though. I think that's something very positive already - we keep trying!
I've struggled quite a bit last week and never stayed under my calorie goal. I find it difficult to get below 2000kcal. I'm a fairly healthy eater and drink plenty of water and tea, but gosh do I love chocolate and wine! I also think I'm too low on protein and eat too much bread (convenience). My partner isn't a vegetarian (like me) and eats too little, so I'm always encouraging him to eat whilst I try not to. So I usually cook for him and end up not cooking for me, because I cannot be bothered after work. He will eat veggie meals too, but only once or twice a week. If I wasn't concerned about his health, I'd happily cook nice veggie meals every day and let him live on pot noodles and toast. Anyway, that's my weekly whinge over with!
On the upside - I started walking more and I still lost a little (I suppose eating 2000-2300kcal is still better than 3000kcal!).
SW: 238lbs
GW: below 190lbs
06/01/21 - 238lbs
13/01/21 - 236.25lbs
I hope everyone is safe and having a good week!

I have really appreciated all I have gained this month regarding patience . I am as well really inspired by all the success people have had in the long game.I can safely say I feel like my mindset has shifted too. Alot of that has been through reading your posts. So at your lowest moments please know others are reading your words and may be inspired and changed by them. Like I said in my profile I have had a long love hate relationship with my body ( first diet at 10 years old and am 60 in May).
I have always been someone who supported others, its actually my profession, I am a social worker and am now also a college professor teaching . The public self verses the private self. I have been doing some deeper work around where I got some of my own beliefs around my value based on size or number on the scale. They came from way way back. On Tuesday I taught my class and was speaking about self esteem and self worth . I noticed a shift in myself this time teaching it. I have always believed this for people I have I worked with and my students, I believe some of the negative messaging can be confronted and replaced with positive ones. The sum of who I am is NOT defined by the number on the scale.
Thanks for letting me share, this is so much more than the food I put into my mouth but the words that come out of it too.12 -

It’s the little things.
Also, a friend of mine suggested a devotional called, “Crave”. It helps you to rather than putting your attention of craving for food you put your attention to God. The whole point is craving God in your life rather than food. I have really enjoyed it. I thought someone here might want to check it out.
Great job with the carbs!! I really struggle with cutting those down.
Thanks for the “Crave” recommendation i am going to check it out for sure.

I hear ya! The struggle to find the right bra is awful. Not to mention so expensive! Ive found myself this past week realizing i need fo get some new ones too but i hate spending the money. I do really like the ones from Torrid. Not sure if you have one by where you live but they do have online shopping too.

I am back AGAIN. Can't use lockdown as an excuse as I have worked through all of them. I just got lazy and ate too much.
I want to gain my size 16 self again!
Stay fine and dandy everyone4 -

I've been using Amazon Prime Wardrobe to try on basically every bra I can find in my measured size, I'll probably remeasure every month or so and see where I'm at. I've found exactly one bra that fits - well, technically two, but they're the same model (Elomi Morgan, 44FF and 44G). Brastop and Bare Necessities are also good places to buy bras with good return policies. I've bought bras at places like Lane Bryant in the past, and Cacique is okay, but I've come to prefer unlined, seamed bras over molded-cup or padded bras.
Elomi is a brand that specializes in large-band, large-cup bras, and a lot of them are even pretty cute! As cute as an industrial-grade boulder holder can be, anyway. I so wish the Elomi Cate fit me better because I love the design on it, but alas, it's built for boobs of a different shape. Goddess is basically the other major big-bra company, and I find they tend to be very full-coverage - supportive and comfortable, sure, but also rather matronly, which isn't what I'm looking for personally. Wacoal also does make large-band-large-cup bras, but I've not found a Wacoal bra that I like. Most of their big bras are minimizers, which isn't what I want - it gives me a weird, unflattering shape, IMO. Nordstrom carries Wacoal, if you're able to go to a brick-and-mortar store where you are; it's been a while since I've gone bra shopping in-person, but last time I was at a Nordstrom Rack, the big-bra racks were chock full of Wacoal.
My breasts are slightly full on bottom (slightly more breast tissue below the nipple than above), with very wide roots (I have breast tissue wrapping around my sides). Morgan's wires are plenty wide enough to encapsulate those roots and sort of bring it all front and center, which is what I want. I could do with maybe a little bit more immediate projection, but my IMF is also just not shaped like a bra wire so it's never going to fit perfectly in there. This bra could probably accommodate someone a bit fuller on top than I am, as the top of the cup is a slightly-stretchy mesh. The whole thing is very pleasant to wear and soft to the touch, not scratchy at all. The gore (the middle part, between the cups) comes up a little higher than I'm used to, but it does lay flat against my sternum like it's supposed to, and I think improving my posture will prevent that from getting uncomfortable over the course of the day. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to buy a third one.3 -
@goal06082021 , @twosteplove , @AlexandraFindsHerself1971
I don't have the full bra description that goal06082021 had but I have had Vanity Fair from JCPenny's for years and really like them. Wider shoulders so they don't dig, the 4 hook back, wire free with molded cups and they are made well. I wear a 38DD and they are the most comfortable bra I have ever worn. I haven't bought any in a while but if I remember correctly they are fairly affordable.3 -
@TabulaRasaElisa I'm retired so I now have plenty of time to exercise. My county is still pretty much in lock down so I'm home a lot. I spread the different exercises throughout the day so I don't end up sitting around the house for too long at one time. However, last time I lost a bunch of weight (of course, there was a last time that I didn't keep it all off, lol) I was working. At that time, my exercise was the weights and treadmill. (The chair yoga and step platform are new this time around. The hikes are just for fun!) I forced myself to get up early and work out before work. Since I started slow, I only had to get up 10 minutes early at first. I gradually increased that until I was working out about an hour total each work day. It just became part of my routine to get up, exercise, and then get ready for work. My job was very stressful with long hours and I knew I wouldn't feel like working out after work so that's what worked for me when I was employed.4

The topic of mindfulness has come up a lot lately. How mindful am I, really? I wonder if I am really being mindful of this journey. I think I have a lot more work to do on that. I see things as a "task", eat better, plan healthy foods, eat this, don't eat that, allow myself this or that because "I've been good". I haven't really taken things to my heart and mind. I think there were times when I first started that I did have some of it coming into my heart but that part wears off. I need to stop and really assess myself when I have thought that are not how I want to live my life. Like night eating when I say "I can't stop", YES I CAN!!! I just have to determine what I really want most. Why do I feel the need to eat at the end of the day like it is a mission? What am I really feeling? What do I really need? It isn't food unless I am truely hungry. The complete and total mindlessness is what needs to go. I need to actually taste what I eat and focus on what I am actually eating. There are so many times that I finish eating something and think "wow, that went quick" like I didn't even know that I was putting it in my mouth. I need to "meditate" while I eat and actually taste the food and enjoy it, bite by bite.11

Ughhhh. I tripped coming up the stairs at work this morning (like, first thing this morning) and landed hard on my knee. I think I'll be okay - it's sore, for sure, and a little swollen, but I can still walk and have full range of motion. I just really don't want this to derail my progress. I can modify the workouts I have planned for tomorrow and the weekend, hopefully it feels better by Monday and I'll be able to complete that workout.8

Hello!
I weigh in daily, but will try to check in here weekly on Fridays.
Age: Almost 25
Height: 5'2"
SW: 325
CW: 321
I started this phase of my journey on January 7th 2021, so I've really just begun. This isn't my first rodeo, though. I lost around 60 pounds a few years back using MFP, and unfortunately gained it back and then some over time due to life being overwhelming + COVID/WFH/Quarantine.
Monthly Goals:
January: 315
February: 300
March: 285
April: 270
May: 255
I'll be dropping my monthly goal to around 10lbs around this point, as I know it's going to slow down once I get the extreme excess shaved off - it certainly did last time.
I've been using the Switch Ring Fit Adventure to get my body used to exercising again, and oh wow, it is lifechanging. It's really fun, and I've never found working out "fun" before.7 -
@Emheia - I'm told my husband is going to be receiving a Ring Fit for his birthday next week. What's it like, how does the game work? I'm so curious!
I had access to a Wii Fit for a while in college and I remember that being pretty fun (and also a lot of running in place, mostly).1 -
Hi everyone I hope it’s not to late to join your group.
I used to follow this group early last year but then I lost all motivation and gained everything I lost plus more. So new year, fresh start. I’m motivated and ready to make this year mine.
Started on the first of this year. So today is weigh in day.
Stats:
SW: 236.9lbs (107.5kg)
CW: 227.9lbs (103.4kg)
Total loss: 9lbs (4.1kg)
My goal weight by end of the month is 222.6lbs (101kg). Ultimate goal weight is 165lbs (75kg).
I haven’t taken any measurements so I think I might do that tomorrow so I can have something else to gauge my loss other than the scale.5 -

Writing all of this down for future reference. Thanks for all the tips! My 18 year old daughter struggles with this too. She is a very active senior in HS with just huge boobs poor girl and a small frame. We finally found a sports bra that she loves and i love it too. Shefit is the brand l. Pricy but WORTH.EVERY.SINGLE.PENNY. Especially to an athlete like her.2 -

So, things are going better this month. I am just having a lot of knee pain at night. I don't know exactly what is wrong now, but I do need knee surgery. Of course, I have to lose about 70 more lbs before they will consider it (I have other health issues which make it more difficult.) I think something keeps going out of place for one, and for another the doc said I seem to have bursitis there too. I don't know why it's okay in the day time, when my legs are upright, but when they are horizontal it really hurts when I bend my right knee. So I am not getting a lot of sleep some nights. I have just started taking ibuprofen before bed so we'll see if that helps, but I can't take it for too long (see previous mentioned other health issues!) Anyway, glad I am retired so I can sleep in if I need to!
The bra discussion has been interesting. I can't seem to find any front closure bras any more, though. Also I did sign up for a bra fitting at a chain store. Hah. Won't do that again. She did measure me but she said I was 38 (I forget the cup size). No way. Tried the one on she brought me, and way tight. She talked me into going with a 40DDD. Wish I had listened to my own instincts and insisted on a 42 because the one bra I was able to add my own extension to, but I didn't have enough to do the other. I will wear it in a pinch but it is a relief to take it off at the end of the day. (I really cannot afford to buy more right now, so here's hoping I lose quickly enough to make them comfortable soon!)

OK, New Year weekly goals:
Log my food every single day, good and bad and stick to my daily calories (1500).
I did a lot of estimating this week. I really didn't weigh all my food, but at least 50% of it I did.
Drink at least 64 oz of water daily.
I am still trying to get those 64 oz... a couple of days I made it, other times I got to about 48 oz.
Workout 5 times a week for 30 minutes each time.
I didn't workout at all this week. Just didn't feel like it.
Went to the doctor's this week and my A1C went down to NORMAL, so I'm happy. Doctor wants me to continue on my path of losing weight and exercising. She also gave me anxiety meds and wants me to go to therapy to help with that. Just thinking of making an appointment gives me anxiety. LOL!! I swear... smh.7 -

Aaa! I already passed my GW for this month! Can't get complacent now, let's keep it going!
My knee is still pretty sore from falling yesterday. I can walk, I have range of motion, it's just a little swollen and bruised. So instead of my normal Friday circuit, I found an upper-body/abs workout meant to be done sitting in a chair, which worked out well enough. I could have sworn I had a resistance band somewhere around here, but it's been stolen by the underwear gnomes or something, it was nowhere to be found this morning.
@twosteplove (and everyone else, tbh) feel free to DM me for more Bra Knowledge, LOL. Panache is another extended-size brand, though they don't cater as much to the large-band folks as Elomi and Goddess; their offerings taper off considerably above a 38 band, but they do have a ton of great options for sub-38-band, large-cup folks. They make a really great, supportive wired sports bra that Locks. Them. Gals. DOWN. without just smushing them flat (it also comes wireless, but I don't have experience with that one). Like, I hate running and I've decided never to do it again, but when I was trying to be a person that runs, this bra held my whole situation down like a champ. The straps have a J-hook, so it converts to and from a racerback style really quickly and easily - I can even switch it myself while wearing the bra. And it comes in fun colourways that are often discounted, if she likes bright colors. Panache uses UK sizes, which are FAR more consistent across brands than US sizes are once you get above DD, so anyone searching for big-cup bras is likely to have more success looking for their UK size.8 -

Weight is still within my maintenance goal, but just barely. I would feel more comfortable between 162-163, so I need to remain vigilant.
I managed to do my physical therapy/body weight exercises 3 days this week and run 5xs this week. I know I'm making progress with the exercises because I've been sore all week and I was able to perform them better yesterday than I could on Sunday.
Maintenance is a struggle - it requires the same discipline and vigilance as losing, but you don't get the positive reinforcement of watching pounds and inches drop. But I know it will get easier as time goes on. Right now, it's a critical time to be ensure my long term success and I need to keep my head in the game.

I had a rough week. My mother was in an accident so I was taking care of her after she was discharged from the hospital. I let the stress get the best of me and didn't make the best decisions on Tuesday and Wednesday. I am happy that I still lost 1 pound this week even with the laps of judgement. Just need to remember that I will make mistakes and have bad days but the good days will defiantly outweigh the bad.
12 -
What a bad end to the week. I ate way too much. (500 calories too much) and I am on an antibiotic which is making me retain water, so the scale doesn't move like I want. Tomorrow is a new day, and I will eat better. I have to! I am not giving up over one bad day.13

I would like to join this group. Our scale quit working about a month ago. We bought new one and I am at my highest weight ever. So need to start doing something about it. I have lost really well if I try. My dad passed 3 years ago and that is when I lost my motivation. I was in a prediabetic weight loss group and they have since disappeared. I am a Navy Veteran that has some physical issues with bad surgery when I was active. But I need to start exercising. I am 56 years old and work help training people that are Blind or low vision be independent.

Just started today. I'm really tired of eating so unhealthy and feeling low energy. I'm a mother of 3 kids and it's hard keeping up with them. I will be the first to admit that I eat too much fast food(about 4 times a week)and drink too much soft drinks(everyday) and eat too much candy/snack cakes(a few times a day).
My goal for January and February:
- Get to 190lbs
- No soda!
- Fast food only once a week
- Go on a walk after a meal
- NO boredom eating!6 -
Well, I've been having a bit of a difficult time between the national news and worrying about my brother in law who has cancer, and the stress of Boyfriend working through trauma, but I'm really happy with the fact that when I want something extra it's always about 150 calories, and I can usually stop at that 150 extra instead of going for a full out binge. I still count it as a binge because I have that pressured feeling, but I've definitely managed to reduce the harm it does, and I call that pretty good.
