@Tramboman Yay ice beard! I was missing some of the guys who used to post their ice beards, glad you are here to keep up the tradition!
I’ve run twice since my last post, one was my usual 8 miler which for some reason really took it out of me, I felt fine at the time but stressed after, and my heart rate was a little higher than usual for about 24 hours. I think running at race pace twice in one week was just too much stress even when it was only 3k, and as the distances in the series get longer it’s not going to be sustainable.
With that in mind, we decided not to race race our 5k road run on Saturday, just do a nice brisk tempo and call it good. I know what my 5k road race time looks like right now anyway, if I want to compare it to the series times. And then we surprised ourselves because our “tempo” run turned out to be our 3rd fastest 5k. Well all right then! I guess running at that speed is getting easier. We are planning to practice run the 5k trail race course at Stanky Creek - brand new course this year - and see where we’re supposed to go so we don’t end up trying to figure out the course on the fly like we did last time we tried to duplicate the series race. Planned to run Monday but it looks like thunderstorms, so may have to postpone a day. I will run in rain but not lightning. Stanky Creek after two days of rain ought to be a mudfest!8 -

I ran 9 miles this morning. The temperature was 59°F which should have been perfect, but it was 92% humidity which made it not as pleasant. The first half of the run I was feeling pretty warm. I wore shorts and a t-shirt, but was kind of wishing I had worn a tank top. But when I turned to head home there was enough of a breeze that it felt really good. I did encounter one dog. I have seen him a couple of times and today he trotted out to meet me and followed me for about a quarter of a mile. He seemed friendly enough, but I was glad when he turned back towards home. Other than that it was an uneventful run, but I enjoyed it.
@AlphaHowls Congratulations on 1000 days on the run!

Well I finally got my wish! Some winterish weather has arrived. We have had some heavy rain with more on the way. It has been 'cold' for us. In the low 40's early and only getting into the low 50's during the day. Today when I went out at noon it was at the high of 51F with a cold wind blowing and colder in the shade or when the sun went behind the clouds. I didn't think I would be running much as my hamstring was complaining after my strength training yesterday. When I got to my turn around point I thought I would just take a walk back but there were so many people on the trail I felt it was better to just run past them. So I ran past groups until I had a clear area to walk and walked until another group came along. Kind of like a fartlek run. When I got home my hamstring was not happy but it has calmed down again and tomorrow will likely be a rest day because it is supposed to be pouring rain in the morning. If not I will get Hobbes out for a couple of miles of walking or maybe running...

@Scott6255 - hope you are able to get the plumbing issues resolved!
@skippygirlsmom - I was really surprised that there were incisions and stitches on both sides of your ankle! Yikes! When you do it you do it good! I am glad the iWalk is working out. I am surprised more people don't use them, they look so much more convenient.
@katharmonic - I am glad your skiing is going so well! Sounds like today was really fun. It is amazing what a workout it is though! Reading your exploits makes me miss going but I am sure I would fall flat and hurt myself!
@ContraryMaryMary - that looks like a challenging but beautiful place to run! I think I would have run down to the water though and gone for a swim!
@faebert - you are doing great! How are you feeling?
@SummerSkier - I definitely talk to myself and encourage myself to go further than planned or than I really should! Probably why I am struggling still with this dang hamstring!
@Tramboman - if an ice beard happens without a picture, did it really happen? 😂🥶
@quilteryoyo - it is good to see you getting back into regular activities even if those don't include running (yet)!
@AlphaHowls - WOW, just WOW!!
@rheddmobile - love seeing how you are improving and your times are getting so fast and you don't even realize it!

Cloudy, upper 20s F and very little wind this morning. Seemed colder than yesterday; think it was because the air was more damp. Song in my head today was "Old Yeller." Ran about the same as yesterday; saw some bluejays; two geese; and a black squirrel, along with some deer tracks from last night. Dreamed I was trapped on an island surrounded by a large pod of angry orcas who were throwing themselves onto the shore in an attempt to eat me.
@shanaber I'm not sure. Did it???????
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)6 -
@skippygirlsmom I had to look up the iwalk. That looks so cool and glad it is working for you. You'll probably get some looks if you get out and about any. LOL Being a runner seems to make recuperating from injuries/illnesses/surgeries a lot easier. Are you going to be able to use that to get outside and take some slow walks?
@Teresa502 Glad you got to have lunch with your parents and had in a nice run afterwards. Thanks. I decided to sleep on the couch last night, instead of in the recliner. I figured it is so narrow that I wouldn't be able to roll over on my side and might be more comfortable. I did sleep some better, but not the AWWWWW sleep I had hoped for. I'll take it though. So much better than the night before.
@RunsOnEspresso Some days are just hard. I think you did great to get those miles in.
@AlphaHowls Just WOW! 1000 days on the run and over 180 days of HMs. You are a beast!
@rheddmobile You and your DH are doing so good! Yeah for the unexpected great 5K pace.
Great running @kgirlhart !
@shanaber Hope your hamstring is better this morning. Enjoy your rest day.
@Tramboman Cool that you saw a black squirrel. Do you see them often? The dream sounds a little scary. Wonder what that was about?5 -

@rheddmobile Ice Lash's - not ice beards. A few photo's of some fellow runners at an un-official gathering/event.15 -
Just seen on Challenge Hound we suddenly raced through France and seem to currently be in northern Spain. Shame our route didn't allow us to come down to the south coast, I would have shared my coffee. However, I think we may have been running with the bulls in Pamplona instead. Little early in the year for it, but hey it's a very strange year! I haven't been to the area we're currently in, but we're headed for Portugal and I DO have a couple of snaps from when we did the Camino de Santiago in 2019, including one of my daughter with feet in different countries!16
-
Cool. Thanks for sharing @eleanorhawkins !

@eleanorhawkins - I've only been to the airport in Portugal for a connection but flying over it looked like a beautiful country. I had a friend and her husband who walked part of the Camino de Santiago in 2019 and now it's on my bucket list.2

Hey guys! I. Am. So. Behind. I have read and think caught up. You all are fabulous.
@quilteryoyo and @skippygirlsmom Happy to see you both on the mend!
Still following my routine on track for my goals so far. Did my 150 run this morning on the Peloton App!
Total of about 7.67 miles for the today.
Nothing really exciting been happening around here, no fun places to run, I also was getting tired of running the same neighborhood greenways. The app is helping with the distraction.
Had some teenage issues to deal with. UGH why is it so? I mean I know I had my moments, but in this world teenagers are so much different.....7 -
Darn it, I was hoping to stop off at a few vineyards in Bordeaux, home of some of the most expensive wine in the world from the tiny Petrus vineyard (I wasn't going there!)
As @eleanorhawkins said we head through Pamplona where they hold the running of the bulls, good luck if you fancy it though I tend to root for the bulls!!
We are now heading off to Burgos which is one of the most well preserved medieval cities in Europe9 -

The short reprieve from the hot weather we've had is now over and we're back to temps around 30°C this week. Run this morning was a bit of a slog. I seem to keep getting slower the more I run at the moment! I'll put it down to the hot weather...
I hit my 100km monthly goal a few days ago, obviously I way underestimated what was in my plan!
@katharmonic Sounds like a great day out on the ski fields
@quilteryoyo You're doing such a great job with your recovery
@AlphaHowls 1000 days on the run!!! You amaze me
@Tramboman Your dream reminds me of something my sister was telling me about - she's reading a book of a real life account of a family who were sailing around the world when their boat was attacked by a pod of orcas and they ended up in a life raft for about 2 months before being rescued
@juliet3455 You cold weather runners are crazy!!
@eleanorhawkins Thanks for the pics, I've never been to Spain or Portugal, but both are on my bucket list

ContraryMaryMary wrote: »@summerskier, the self talk thing is very common in runners. It’s almost inevitable if you’re doing any kind of distance by yourself. Excellent work on pushing yourself.
Oh, I carry on full conversations with myself when I run. I stopped listening to music/podcasts a while back so the self talk is now my only distraction.5 -
@AlphaHowls I just have to take an entire post and say 182 days of a >HM streak just boggles my mind. Can I ask what sort of pace you run? I think if I wasn't so friggin old and slow I could get more mileage in but wow. just WOW! YOU ARE TOTALLY AWESOME!4

It's been A day.I noticed last night that my heat pump wasn't working. It was running, but not keeping the temperature where it should have been. So, I used emergency heat last night and called the company this morning. Fortunately, they were able to make it out today, before noon, to look at it. Unfortunately, the coil they replaced in June has a hole in it and the Freon has all leaked out. They have to order a new coil. Again, fortunately, it isn't too cold because I will be on emergency heat until they get it fixed. Also good is that it is under warranty.
I had gotten a notice on Saturday that I had a registered letter I'd need to sign to get. I called early, hoping the get them to bring it back today and I'd have the gate opened. No such luck. I would need to go pick it up. Normally, that would not be a big deal, but not being able to drive makes everything harder than it needs to be. My neighbor graciously took me this afternoon. As suspected, it was a letter from the IRS stating that they are going to seize my property because I didn't pay my 2019 taxes. Note, I did pay them, have the cancelled check, talked to them in August, they found it and were supposed to take care of it. I got another notice in December and have called them 8 times since and haven't been able to get through. So, today, I called and punched incorrect numbers and was able to get to talk to an actual person. They found my account and said they didn't understand why it wasn't transferred over before. She said I need to send them a copy of the check with a letter stating the situation. She said she would put a note on my account so they wouldn't send any more notices (and I hope won't freeze my accounts). I will do that in the morning.
Then, I opened my mail and have been charged a late fee on a credit card account that I paid in plenty of time. Guess I'll call them tomorrow too.
I had considered taking today as a rest day, but decided I really needed to get some energy out. So, I did laps on the driveway for 32 minutes (1.75 miles), ranting to the universe and whoever else would listen the entire time. I do feel better for having done it.16 -

Anywhere from 5 mph to 6 mph, about 10+ minute miles most times. I turned 50 November 2020.6 -
@quilteryoyo Big hugs to you. I can’t imagine how frustrated you must be.
@AlphaHowls I can’t even imagine running those miles every day!
Someone in a local running group posted the other day that she ran on a cross country trail at one of the private schools. I had no idea it was there but went by on my way home from work to check it out. It is so nice and well marked! I haven’t been able to find a map, but the signs indicated a 2 mile trail and a 5k trail, but there seem to be some offshoots as well. I ran 2.35 miles but headed out before it got dark in the woods. I will definitely be adding this to my list of places.12
