85lb bench used to scare me... Today... On set 5, I did 10 reps! 🕺 🕺
This is a great lift. Your strength has clearly improved over the last couple months. Impressive.
It’s been a rough couple of weeks for me. My step dad passed away (he really was my dad just not formally) and having to help the family and my mom has kept me out of the gym and also meant a lot of takeout, and little to no sleep, not to mention the emotional side of all of it.
I’ve been to the gym once for a real workout and I could definitely feel the accumulation of all of those stressors when I was there.
I’ve finally been able to sleep(more at least) and try to bring my life back to some form of normal (still a long road to go there) and a new mindset today and it all added up.
There is 455 on that bar. I about stalled out but I told myself I was going to hit that number or die trying before walking into that gym today. Happy to say I didn’t die. Also helped that I had planned for a later day session, and my daughters basketball team (I help Coach) won and showed a lot of improvement which resulted in some happy thoughts.
I followed this up with 2 sets of 405X3 and then the rest of my workout.
Also shout out to @KickassAmazon76 for her deadlift post yesterday. That post and Alan Thrall was really on my mind and gave me some solid motivation!
Heart goes out to brother. I’ve been through the same in last year and half. The gym can be a nice release for some of that emotion. Great strength man.2 -
I'm gonna break the rules, because I was too involved with lifting to video (sorry!). But today I did a "mock" powerlifting meet. (Bodyweight ~184 lbs., age 62) Squat attempts were: 225, 245, 275, Bench was: 210, 225, 235, Deadlift was: 275, 315 & 335. I went 9 for 9 and I'm very sure they were all legal according to the rules (USPA, USPL, etc.). I had some "left in the tank". This was at the end of my hypertrophy/accumulation phases (mesocycles). Next comes the strength/power phases at 5 and 3 reps per set. So I should be doing significantly more when meet comes around near the end of May. I'll include a .gif when next I post.
Amazing job! I have to get to have 9 white lights at a meet.... and having some left in the tank is sort of awesome because you know for your next your scores will be higher 😁👏🏻0 -

I’m so sorry for your loss, sending 🙏🏻 to you and your family. The pause is awesome, I always think so anyway, to me it shows me how hard I’m grinding ❤️1 -
No GIF today
I was feeling a little like jello. Didn't fuel my workouts properly. I have 1 more lifting day before taking a week off. I'm thinking I should just keep the weights as is and maybe try to eek out another set of 5 reps at 100 for my bench????🤔3 -

Sometimes you need to listen to your body. If you're taking a week off then either repeat the weight if you feel you've got it (it's so close), or consider dropping and adding reps so that you leave the lifting on a high note. ❤️
Either way, you'll come back rested and ready to nail it!
And awesome workout!0 -

I did about 45 million variations of a squat today, so tomorrow should be interesting. I must say I completely despise front squats, but my coach wants them to be my new primary leg day focus, to build on my explosiveness out of the hole. Also, I realized my squat depth when I do singles is several inches lower than when I squat for reps.... not sure if that’s mental or what but helpful, cause at least I can build on it.5

Great work! Does this mean you'll be gravity falling onto the couch in two days? haha!
Your form looks fabulous. You're killing it, J!0 -

What’s the difference in your working weight in front squats compared to regular squats?0 -

Not where it should be 🤣🤣 he wants my front squats at 135 for 5x5 but 95 is kicking my *kitten*, so I know I’m not ready to go up yet. My working weight for back squats is like 165 for 5x5, maybe more but with strongman we aren’t pushing back squats all front squats focused.1 -
For all of you in this thread -5

*Looks over both shoulders and thinks to self: DAMN I'm going to have to step up my game because she's going to to beat me in deadlift*
Seriously though strong lift, looked easy, and I think what I like most is that your knees and hips lock out in sync which saves so much energy and makes heavier weights so much more attainable in the future! Awesome work!2 -
No GIF today. Honestly I don't think I could have even worked my camera this morning let alone it seems that 5 AM is the time to be at the gym. I've never seen that many people at the gym ever. I'm not even sure why I thought a 5 AM workout was a good thing either but there I was so why not. Not my best lifts but it was a solid session.
Then I took the dog for a walk for some slow cardio. Dog was happy, I'm Happy, just need some caffeine.

Haha I wish! I only dream of lifts that big!! Seriously though, thank you for the encouragement! It means a lot!!
Your lifts... At 5am... Man, I can't even manage my coffee cup at that time!
You're a beast! #seriouslyimpressed!1 -
I was so not pumped for this workout. I just told myself to squeeze tight, push, and don't die. I really thought my legs would give out first, but nope, it was my chest. My pecs are done! I failed my last set of bench and my friend bailed me out.

Looks like a great workout and you literally gave it all you had! Sounds like a win to me!!
Sucks to fail and need help, but I really am starting to appreciate the growth that comes in that last few reps. ❤️
Now you're off for a week?0 -
Out of the gym/off work for next week, but will workout at home with cardio and light weight.3

Can see the brachial pulse. Med students love me. ER Dr once said “You have beautiful anatomy” lmao. After being hit by a car, my response was “Yeah, even when it’s broken “ 😉.

This is cool!
My abdomen moves with my heartbeat. It kind of freaks some people out because it's really strong, but I love it. The human body is pretty amazing!2 -
I'm considering a slight bulk after spring break...if I can still go to the weight room regularly. What are your opinions on this? I'm not sure what my goals should be, but look forward to more energy for my lifts!1
-
Completely unnecessary to bulk.

I think a good lean bulk you may enjoy. I wouldn’t really call it a bulk. It would be more upping your 3 macros a bit to fuel your workouts and feed your muscles the building blocks they need to repair and be stronger for the lifts your body is asking them to do.4 -

I didn't say don't do it, just that it was unnecessary. Kinetixtrainer2 gave a better way to do it. I will say from personal experience that bulking has never worked for me. Changing my macro and maintaining a healthy cal count has worked, though it can be an incredibly slow process. I've been lifting for a hand full of years now and have gotten my best results by running a recomp macro and working my butt off.2
