The Busier You Are, the More You Need Quiet Time

"Recent studies are showing that taking time for silence restores the nervous system, helps sustain energy, and conditions our minds to be more adaptive and responsive to the complex environments in which so many of us now live, work, and lead."
Interesting article!

Thank you all for your good wishes about my friend.
She appears in both volumes of my memoir.
When I was a child I adored her. She was the one who sparked my interest in German, as both her parents were German. Her father was a Jewish refugee.
We lost touch when our children were young. I'm not sure why. It hurt at the time.
I decided a couple of years ago to find her again, but there was no trace of her anywhere, quite unusual these days. I did know her husband's name and that he had been in the church, so it wasn't hard to find him and I emailed him through his organisation.
It was then I found out from him about this terrible disease. He let me know a few months later that she had died.
So, it was strange when his face popped up as a Friend suggestion on Facebook (I only have a few Friends) Must be from the email contacts. Out of interest I decided to see what he was up to. Then I saw the photos. Strangely, she hadn't changed much from when I knew her. The disease began to claim her in her 50s. She died in her late 60s. But, of course, you can see it in her eyes.
She was one of the most vibrant and beautiful people I have ever known. I was envious of her, (a theme here?) because the boys all flocked round her. But I truly loved her. When we moved to different counties at 8 years old we continued to go to stay with each other, all through our teenage years. We would get on the London train at age 9.
So, my friends, seize the day! Make the most of your every minute. Life is not a rehearsal.

Morning, afternoon and evening, all...
Quiet house, laundry whooshing, cat asleep on my lap, husband asleep in the bedroom, just a faint snore coming from that quarter occasionally. I can hear the ticking of the clock on the wall and the chuffle of the heater kicking in on this still dark morning, nearly freezing outside.
For the last five early mornings, I could hear a 14-month-old baby snuffling and burbling, tiny whimpers in his sleep as he turned and tossed in sleep in his portable crib just on the other side of my office wall... Levi was in motion 24-7, even in his sleep. He scattered destruction in his wake like a tiny little Godzilla...
I miss that already, while still being completely glad to have my own silence and solitude back! It's possible that this is the definition of adulthood--that two contradictory thoughts and feelings can both be true at the same moment.
Speaking of contradictory thoughts - I watched the scale go up scandalously over the last couple weeks, and it's definitely time to get my diet back into health-mode instead of whatever I want mode... My overall symptom set is as under control as I've gotten it in quite some time, so I'm really hoping that last set of antibiotics worked.
Considering one of the main symptoms at this time last year was an unexpected ten-pound weight loss in one month, gaining weight is actually reassuring. It means the bacterial overgrowth isn't vampiring the nutrition I put in my body and starving me again. Fingers crossed it worked. I'm OK with being chunky if it means I'm not sick. Contradictory thoughts again...
Anyway - I gave a bunch of advice here, and then deleted it again. It was just annoying and not useful. My friend called me twice yesterday, and while she wants me there, told me not to come--and I'm grateful for that. I will try to get up there this summer when they have the memorial for Peg, once I'm fully vaccinated.
Love y'all,

Well finally braved getting back on my push bike after 4years did 5 Miles feeling accomplished 😊4

I'm sorry Annie. It always hurts.
Today seems to have been busy, busy. DDIL sent me a link to a present she wanted and a code to get it 20% off. I went to buy it, but the code didn't work, so I bought it anyway. Just pleased to have a suggestion from her. Afterwards I emailed the company to see if they would apply it in retrospect. No harm in asking. It's a bright red gilet.
Then she asked if we wanted to meet up tomorrow morning. 8.30. The venue is 45 mins walk away, but I said yes because DH was very keen. We'll get our morning exercise! I will have to set the alarm.
Then I found the old photo of my friend Shirley and spent some time fiddling with it. Uploading it. Downloading it.
Then I texted my son about the meet up next weekend for DDIL'S birthday. It's complicated.
All this meant I didn't get my floor exercises done! Oh well.
I've made a Spinach and Feta pie for tonight and done my Duolingo. Now to row and watch Spiral.
I think we are going to watch Mamma Mia tonight and have a singalong. We so enjoyed Oliver last weekend.
Good day, but busy, busy.

For me, I used that one as a winter bike for snow wind, etc. because it is more sturdy, heavy, put fenders on it and a back rack for panniers. Here people would just use it for riding all year round. I will have my road bike for that.1 -
Allie: It sounds like your inner clock is confused. It seems like being in a hospital for weeks where people come in and out of your room night & day might get your inner clock mixed up. Do you have a bed time ritual? I’ve seen you mention drinking tea many times. Is this caffeinated tea? Perhaps you could switch to decaffeinated tea or herbal tea after breakfast or lunch. I like Peppermint tea and Sleepy Time tea from Celestial Seasonings. They also have a vanilla tea. We rarely have coffee after dinner and sleeping is not a problem. :flowerforyou:
Heather: Your friend Shirley was a beautiful girl. I remember those clothing styles from the past.
Annie: So sorry. Steven was not good enough for you. :noway:
I was so frustrated with the ants that I shifted from organic strategies to Raid Ant spray. I sprayed it outside on the siding and inside wherever I saw an ant. It worked. There are no ants in my house today.

Tom made it through his hernia surgery ,the meds have worn off so in a bit of pain. He has to get up and walk ,but also rest.. both the dogs know he isnt feeling well so they are laying low and just keeping him company
Did some dishes and gathered the garbage together..2 -
Annie, so sorry you are hurt, but clearly Stephen wasn't good enough for you and the universe is clearing the way for someone better in your life.
Friends are coming for a visit this afternoon. They are the ones who spend most of the year in California and I send them their mail. They are the ones who were the breeder for Brandy and Sasha. Jake has cleaned up the garage and will back the car out and place our patio chairs in wide spaced circle so we can visit even if it's raining. The last time they came months ago we stood in the driveway and talked.
This morning Jake got up early and took the dogs out for their before breakfast walk before my alarm went off. I got to lie in bed and enjoy the snooze function.

Welcome @cclark351! Would you let us know what you’d like to be called and your general locale? What is a “push bike”? Brava for 5 miles!
Debby in VA Stunning bloom, surprising snow :noway:
Lisa imho Poland is more appealing than anywhere in the middle east… what does he do in the service? Your meditations on contradictory thoughts/feelings gave me a gentle smile, especially about both missing your mini-Godzilla sounds and relishing the peace.
Terri WOW!
Heather “delighted” and “exhausted” well said and well done. ((hugs)) for the sudden, sad reminder of your loss. Love the pic of Shirley at 9 or 10, what a beautiful, young, fashionista she was. “gilet” Heather you continue to expand my British vocabulary. I’d call that a vest
Carol, I’ve been watching the Monterey Bay’s sea otter cam for peace and calm before taking my blood pressure. This morning there were at least 4 adults, and it looked like a baby on mama’s breast, being groomed, fed, and taught to swirl in the water. Lowest blood pressure reading yet
Fae ya gonna patent and market that bandeau/bralette combo?
Annie I hear ya’ about Teddie’s toes and mats. I’d slacked off grooming Tumble’s double coat, and it’s taken 2.5 hours to get her to a minimally matted stage, will take more hours to get her to where she should be. She does NOT look like this now! Does your father need you to support him with your mother, or can you withdraw to the sidelines? Steven’s loss :brokenheart: You’re better off.
Katla What Flea and Machka said. “…not actually aware of the emergency room visit” is so very worrisome. Hope you decide to discuss with your doctor soon. How about a pic of your Keeshond? I stopped taking Tumble to the groomer during the pandemic as we had to stand too close together. (Had some bad experiences in the past and will not leave her alone with any groomer.) To be honest, the groomer’s area was so chaotic and cluttered it made me anxious. Me, the clutter Queen?!?. Sorry your Chinese takeout was disappointing.
Vicki “… not letting the little things become big things…” wise words.
Rebecca wish you’d had the second guy the first blood draw. What a difference competence makes. When the company’s done with the branches at yours, send them on down to us.
Tracey good on you for monitoring those accounts closely. That is why I prefer to use a credit card, not a debit card, for online purchases. Gives me more leverage in case of “glitches”. OMG that was quite an injury. Grateful her eye missed the bolt.
Machka “New Zealand!” Bon voyage!
Barbie “enjoy the snooze function”? Now that’s being in the moment for sure
SuziQ has been on my mind lately, has anyone heard from her?

Good day to all.
The skies are really dark here on this first day of spring. It's also early and already windy. This winter has been very unusual. It's been cool, but also much more windy than ever, which makes it feel even colder.
Annie-Sorry to hear about Steven. There is someone more suited to you out there somewhere.
Allie-Your body just needs time to straighten itself out. It'll get there. Patience, Grasshopper (for those of you who weren't a child of the 80s, that is from the movie Karate Kid).
Lisa-I certainly understand the conflicted feelings. I get that way when I visit family. I love seeing them and spending time there, but it's exhausting. When I return home, I'm relieved and sad.
Trying to do very little today. For some reason, my body seems to hate me right now. My knee won't stop hurting. Now I can't stand for very long or my hips start aching, badly. My thumb seems to slightly improving, but last night I sliced some reasonable gashes in my other thumb and index finger with a kitchen tool. Ok, that was stupid, but I cannot figure out how I hurt my knee or why my hips are hurting. At this rate, I will never be able to try golf again. Ugh.
Start Rant - And why is it so hard to find good bandaids? The ones that stick are a pain to get on. All of the others fall off the moment a droplet of water hits them. And why do they insist on putting those little dot sized ones in the boxes. They are a total waste! If I cut myself, I do it well and the slice is far bigger than that dot will cover. Everyone should collect those little dot ones and give them to the vaccination centers to put over the injection sites. That little hole doesn't need a real one. A dot will do. - End Rant
Anyway, I'm headed to so more sitting. I'm sure my back side will start hurting soon too.

I love that last line!!
I tell people all the time, if you are thinking about someone, CALL THEM-you may not get another chance to do it.
I found out the hard way.
I had a best friend from the first day of 5th grade when we moved to a new school. Laurie and I were in school together, hung out all the time, went to college and took the same classes. Both of us taught pre-school at the same time(but not at the same place, as I had gotten married and moved away for a while. Then I started doing daycare at home and talked her into doing it too- just across town from me. We talked all the time but if her husband was home, he would listen in on the other phone. So annoying.
Anyways, one Sunday afternoon I kept thinking I needed to call her(by this time I had moved an hour away and was visiting my parents). I was going to call but didn't want to deal with her husband listening in. I said, "I will call Laurie tomorrow". Early the next morning I got a call from my other best friend, Laurie had passed away suddenly the night before. IF I had called her, I might have been able to talk her into going to the doctor sooner- She waited too long-blod clot to her heart is what her sister told me later(I was told it was a heart attack by my other friend)
SO, now, if I think about someone, I stop and call or email or text them right then. No putting it off anymore. It has been over 20 yrs since she passed away at the young age of 38, leaving three young kids and now five cute grandkids.
Same with my dad- so suddenly, they are gone for good.
Dont have regrets
Do not wait, You just never know.

Happy Spring!
Machka your post about silence was the first thing I saw just now. The funny thing is I just had told my husband that I am going in to SIT for a few! No radio, no tv, just the sounds of my small wind chimes chiming from the ceiling fan and the sounds of the laundry going. Peaceful.....
Lisa I loved your statement about two contradictions at the same time. It is so true!
Annie Hugs!
We are back to spring like days and winter nights in Ohio. Layering is the only way to go. No change for my husband's eyes. We made it there and back safely in spite of icy rain. Was at work early on Tuesday to try to get some things done-haha. After work took husband to his massage, waited for him at work doing stuffs, drove him home, and went back to work until midnight. I love the ability to email folks with both estimates and to let them know their equipment is ready for pick up. That was a time saver on Wednesday. Those who's email I didn't have finally got called late Wednesday afternoon. I cooked easy dinner Wednesday night and hit the bed early. Overslept Thursday-oops. Still to work on time, just not much get done time in the morning. Thursday night made white chicken chili and cleaned kitchen. Friday, again tried to get things done early at work, but husband had other ideas-grumble. I did throw a tantrum or two Friday at work. They were minor, but included some foot stomping. I can only do so many things at the same time, just saying......and your stuff isn't always more important than what I am currently doing-huff. Last night we went to the local burger place for supper after work. I brought husband home and went back to work. I only worked until 10. Most of the folks I emailed last night picked up their mowers today-yay! I worked for about 90 minutes this morning on project for work. Then I made my SIL call the deliveries and other repairs this morning. We were slow then slammed. Kind of like traveling in rush hour traffic, breeze along then slam on the brakes. Maybe I need to realize that I really am the boss and act accordingly. Most of our customers think I am Got laundry going this morning and sheets changed. As crazy as last weekend was I never got that done-no judging-lol! More laundry to do, need to do bills, deposits, more work paperwork, pick up a trailer (borrowing from friend)for taking things to farmhouse tomorrow. Tomorrow is cleaning farmhouse and putting away stuffs we took out. We are taking some furniture we have back down. Have to measure for replacement furniture for living room. My oldest daughter is meeting us there to help. Would love to be home at a decent time but about 2 hour drive away. It will be interesting to see if SIL makes it down.....supposedly her ex is bringing her down. While I stay out of other's relationships, that one is just strange to me.
I reckon I have sat long enough. Love you ladies!

Anne DE – I’m so very sorry
Tina – I think giving the vaccination sites those dot bandaids is a great idea – especially if they have a pattern on them and not just those boring old beige ones they have.
Debbie – that is so very sad about your friend. That’s why every time I’d leave my father’s (when he was older) I always said “I love you”. Then one time I couldn’t but I was so glad that the time before I had.
Went to church twice while we were in FL. Today I think I’ll go to church here. First time in a year. But now that I’ve had the vaccine, I feel a LITTLE bit better. I guess we shall see…..
Now I’m thinking about Easter, not sure what we’re going to do. Just got an email saying that they’re having a bilingual mass (I don’t like them) at 10 unless there’s inclement weather, then it’ll be at 9. What do they call inclement weather? Probably any precipitation. Now to me, inclement weather would include cold temps or high winds because I have no desire to sit in either. And what happens if they meet the max. number of people allowed in the church? I have a feeling that our pastor wouldn’t bother, but I don’t know about the pastor at the only other Catholic church around here. So what to do? Well….I guess time will just have to tell.
