Also the restrictions that were supposed to be lifted got pushed back and the road HM that was "definitely happening on the 22nd" got postponed to who-knows-when. I'm not sure anyone was really expecting that race to happen anyway.
Look on the bright side. At least you were able to get out of bed.5 -
@WhatMeRunning I feel you on the spiderwebs! I hate them too.
@polskagirl01 I can do that stretch but my problem right knee doesn't like it so I don't do it anymore. I have always been pretty flexible though.
@quilteryoyo I second the amazement at how well your recovery is going. Good job!2 -

Absolutely! And a few minutes ago I went up and down the stairs without taking one step at a time 🙂4 -
Hey all.
Was Mia the last couple of days as I enjoyed the last few days of my holiday. Yesterday I finished the pallet playhouse I was making for the kids. It's made entirely of wooden pallets and a tarpaulin roof. Cost less than $20usd to put together and a few hours. The kids love it!
Today is Saturday, so long run day then I'm out of town for work. Fun.11 -
WOW! Had to go back to page 5 to find my last posting. We are MOVING IT this month!
May 1 8.1 miles/8.1 cum goal 200
May 2 9.12 miles/ 17.22 cum
May 3 3.1 miles/ 20.32 cum
May 4 9.06 mils/29.38 cum of 200 goal
May 5 5.01 miles
May 6 rest day
May 7 8.09 miles 42.48 cum of 200 goal (first week done)
The weather really has been fab lately but now the days are starting to warm up so my 2 per and sprints at lunch will soon be a thing of the past. It was already 80 today. Happy to see so much activity and read all the updates.
Does anyone else get performance anxiety? Like always wanting the day's run to be at least as good or better than the day before? Sometimes I get stuck there which is why I set HR goals to make sure I don't overtrain.6 -
@SummerSkier - I am notorious for constantly "revising" things to improve and sometimes overdoing it by mistake when I assume I can take on that extra "little" load or put more effort somewhere and don't realize it is too much in addition to other stuff. That's why this time around the main driver in my training plan is forcing myself to calculate my training load on "time at effort (based on HR)", and that's it. Mileage and everything else I am just pretending that I don't care. Truth is, I care a lot. But I am not allowing myself to tweak anything and to trust that I will see the gains if I do the proper efforts as planned over the proper duration. So far, so good. I am trying to remember all the times I regretted changing from my initial plan to keep me from tweaking my plans this time around. I truly consider not gunning to join the 100 mile club this month and stick with the fair estimate of 95 miles this month as a big win in this approach. In the past I would have added those extra miles and would have made every effort to just suck it up. That's fine until the one time it bites you and you have to take a bunch of down time. I would rather slowly improve now than achieve arbitrary numbers quickly at the expense of being able to continue.10
-
@SummerSkier yes, me too. After 9 years of running, I still have to fight that mental dragon. But I just started REALLY trying to make myself go slow on easy days and remember that doing so will allow me to continue running (as opposed to sitting on the couch for months with an injury). Good for you for recognizing it!7

Working towards my 1st 100 miles in May challenge. I'm not to where I can run very far at once yet, but I'm excited!
May total: 18.81 miles
Today: 2.37 (longest continuous) 🥳10 -
@katharmonic Nice job on the bench press PR last week!
@abowersgirl That is awesome that you have gotten your family to agree to run with you!!!!
Sorry you still can't run @polskagirl01 and that your HM was postponed. Nice job on the stairs!
Thanks @martaindale !
Nice playhouse @Avidkeo !
Welcome @jjchristensen1993 !
I worked from 8 - 5 today. When I got home, I did one mile on the treadmill to keep my streak alive. I'm really tired. If I am going to have to get up early, I'm really going to have to figure out how to get to bed sooner. I'm not a teenager anymore.5 -

@martaindale - I promise you I want that sweet spot of not needing gloves/tights/long sleeves but not hot and humid.
Took my speed work to the track today. Five, four minute tempo intervals with recovery in between. Felt really good.

I took yesterday as a rest day from running, so today I ran 5.25 miles. I had a hard time getting out the door this morning, but once I did I had a really good run. The weather was really nice. It was dark when I started out ant the crescent moon was really pretty. And it was getting light when I got home. I really like when it isn't dark for the entire run.
I finally got caught up reading the thread. I can't believe that the Run the Year group was already here this week. I almost missed you. I guess I kind of did because I think we are at least an hour west of me now. But you all ran about 10 miles north of me. I am about 2 hours west of @scott6255. After you left the DFW area you all ran right over Possum Kingdom Lake (where @martaindale will be running a trail race in a couple of weeks. ) I live just west of PK in a small town of about 5000. Basicallyin the middle of nowhere. You won't see much out here but some cows and horses and some pumpjacks. But we have nice sunrises and sunsets and the bluebonnet are still blooming.
This pumpjack is in the parking lot at my office.

Rainy and low 40s F again this morning, so back to the treadmill. Didn't feel like playing with speed, so I played with incline instead - going up one notch each kilometer. Think my legs didn't realize what I was doing until the very end.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)

@kgirlhart Thanks for sharing pictures of your part of the country. The bluebonnets are really pretty. Glad you got yourself out the door and had a nice run.
@Tramboman Hope your legs don't rebel too much. Nice treadmill running for you lately. I hope your weather improves soon so you can get back outside.3 -
I gotta post more often so I don't have a hard time finding my last one to copy and update!

@Avidkeo I love the playhouse! We're thinking about building a compost bin out of old pallets. We have a plastic bin (old beat up garbage can) right now by our back door but it's a little small for us. There's actually a stack of pallets by a building I typically run past. Nobody seems to be using them, and I keep thinking "maybe I should call and see if they care if we take a few." I could buy a kit from the hardware store, but seems silly to do that if there's free wood that would otherwise just be thrown away, or sit there forever!7 -
Agree, that playhouse looks great, and very nice ingenuity @Avidkeo!
Surprised myself big time today. Had the worst sleep I've had in months last night. Just couldn't fall asleep, but when I did I woke up about every hour. Got up @ 3am with a bad headache so took some Tylenol. Laid back down for a couple hours but didn't really sleep. Got up and went through the motions of getting ready to run. Was just going to go for a slow, short 10 miles. But when I got going legs didn't hurt, and I was feeling better. Changed route and ended up doing 15 miles, and felt better than any of the runs during the week (and was the fastest run of the week). Longest run of the year so far too.
12 -
Well done your 15 mile run @Scott6255. That's what I often end up doing when I'm feeling good on a run - plan a route then depending on how I feel, change it about half way in and end up adding more mileage and elevation.
I love those runs as I feel more of a sense of achievement as I've done more than I set out to do.5 -
Monthly Question?
When you fall off the wagon, how do you recover?
Vacation plans this summer/season?
What is your favorite non-running related hobby?2 -
I thought about trying to get out for a walk today at my favorite running park. Surely I could walk 2 miles, right? eh I made it to the other side of the house and rethought my day. LOL! Hip surgeon consult 3 days. Run for me. or just walk, that'd be fine.7
