Glad that you're cancer free @CarsonSurfs and that is a good pace for 10 miles.0

His two daughter's (in their early 30's, maybe) came to help too, as did me and mom. We helped manipulate the log chain and loaded most of the blocks of wood - all that we could lift. Some were too big for us. He also sawed down two other dead trees that were at risk of falling into my driveway and we cut part of them up. Still have some to go. We worked from 9 - 11 took an hour for lunch, and then worked from about 12 - 2. Once they all went home, I went back up and cleaned up some of the mess from off of the driveway and cut a couple of little limbs that the trees had torn off. I wound up with 2 Gator loads that I dumped.
My neighbor's goal is to fill this shed with wood for mom to burn by the end of October. Next job is to split all of the wood that is piled against the wall of the shed and outside of it.
Better picture of the biggest pieces, just to see how big they were
When I got done with all of that, I did my mile walk to keep the streak going. Didn't have energy for a run.

I remember the days when I would cut wood all day Saturday and then split it all day Sunday.
Then, I would cut wood on Saturday morning and split it Sunday afternoon.
Then, I would cut wood on Saturday and split it the following weekend.
Than, I moved to a condo and don't cut or split wood at all.13 -

Sunny, upper 40s F, and no wind this morning. One of those quiet days when you can hear everything going on around you. Had probably my best run in a couple of months.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)

@Tramboman Love the evolution of your wood cutting/splitting over the years. I'm trying to talk mom into another form of heat, which we may do next year. Maybe replace one of the heaters for an oil heater and keep the other for back up, in case the power goes out. We'll see. Glad you had a great run this morning.

Got an email from virtualrunner.com saying I haven't uploaded my 10K run for the Guinness World record attempt. But I did it that same day and it shows up in my portal. Tried to do it again today and it says No valid runs available??? WTF?
13.1 miles this morning. Didn't look at my watch once (actually just couldn't bear to see how slow I was going). Just ran by effort. Tried to make it an easy long run. Goal mostly accomplished

@quilteryoyo I love how you still did your walk after all of that work. I'd be ready for a nap!4 -

Have you considered pellet stoves? We had one when we lived in PA and it worked well. And if you get a battery back up system for it, you never have to worry about power outages.2 -
Easy 3.4 through the woods. Late morning run today as it was my step-daughter's 8th birthday.
31.1 for the week.
93.4 for the month out of 100.9 -
5 mile run wearing my Barefoot shoes, no knee problems at all and ran a faster pace than usual. Average pace of 8:57 per min with 265 feet of elevation.
I just love the way I run in them as I really concentrate on form, I'm a lot lighter and no heel striking. I think I need to do more runs in them as I feel I get more out of my running session and put more effort in.
I may not reach my milage goal this month, but will try and get close to it.
September:
74.2/100 miles
9,531/10,000 feet of elevation7 -
Oh no @Scott6255 hope you're able to sort it so that your run gets uploaded and counts towards the challenge.0

10 miles with the threat of rain. Of course it starts sprinkling at mile 9.5 (and barely even a sprinkle). Then we go to the grocery store and it's actual rain. Sigh.

Today's run was supposed to be 9 miles in 1 hr 29 min average pace 9:54. I ran 9.5 miles in 1 hr 50 minutes average pace 11:35. So much slower and a little longer than the plan. Hal still gave me 90%. I feel like the paces the app is giving me are off. 9:54 is pretty close to race pace for me and that was supposed to be a base run. And the notes warned against running the long runs too fast. I felt like the run was good though. The weather was nice and I didn't have any hip pain. I do think that I am holding back some because I am afraid to go all out and injure myself before the race. But I have always run my long runs slower than race pace.
I have a question. I know @shanaber mentioned the Apple watch with fall detection and I thought maybe @rheddmobile had one for her mom. My sisters and I are thinking about getting one for our Mom after her fall a couple of weeks ago. She does have an iPhone. On my Garmin the fall detection feature only works during a GPS activity if I have my phone with me. Is there an apple watch that works all the time, not just during exercise and do you have to have your phone with you for it to work? My mom is 77 years old and she's fairly tech savvy, but when it comes to a smart watch I think that simpler would be better. So do any of y'all have a good watch for your parent that has fall detection?

Oh and I forgot to mention that I did see Sunny the Donkey today in his yard. I hadn't seen him the last two weeks and thought they might have been moved him, so I was happy to see him again.9

According to my husband if you have a cellular capable Apple Watch with the account set up, you don’t need the phone with you for fall detection.
I found it didn’t work well for my mother because she was constantly doing things to the watch which somehow messed up fall detection - failing to charge it (Apple Watch has about a ten second battery life), storing her pen under her watch band, and so on. But if your mom’s cognition is up to speed but her balance isn’t, it may work better for her.3 -
Nice running @Scott6255 . I'm not to the point where I can say, "Oh. I went out for a nice, easy, 13.1 miles today." You and @AlphaHowls inspire me. Maybe I can at some point. Sorry you're having trouble entering your 10K. Is there someway to message the organizers?
@Tramboman and @polskagirl01 You are so funny. @Tramboman I didn't realize you could get a battery back up for them. I'll check into that. Thank you!
@CarsonSurfs Nice run and Happy Birthday to your step-daughter!
Nice run @sweetdaisy13 . Glad there was no knee pain and your barefoot shoes help you. I don't think I could run in them. If I don't have the right support, my knees kill me.
@RunsOnEspresso Sorry you didn't get to run in the rain. Nice running though.
@kgirlhart You are doing great. I agree that Hal seems to be asking you to run pretty fast. I tend to feel that long training runs should be slower, but maybe that's because I love the 80/20 method. I can't help you with the watch, but am interested to see what others say. I hadn't really thought about it, but may be something we need to get to mom at some point. I'm so happy to see that you saw Sunny today!

Mom and I went to early church this morning. They aren't having Sunday School currently, due to CoVID restrictions, so we got home before 9:30. It was foggy, so I decided to wait until around 11:00 to get out for a run, so that the fog would be lifted, I could end my moms, have lunch with her, and then walk home.
It has been such a beautiful fall day. When I headed out the temp was still only 64°F. I ran 3 miles at an easy pace, by feel today. My HR was mostly in zones 2 and 3, so I'll take that. I had negative splits with an average of 12:11 min/mile.
While running past mom's, I saw a pretty bunch of Aster's. After finishing my cool down walk, I stopped to take a few pictures. I noticed the bees were busy collecting pollen and loved to see how much pollen they had on their legs. I guess they're getting ready for winter.

I did email the virtualrunners.org and they said to email them the screenshot. The reply I got back after sending it was "due to the currently very high volume of service requests, answers can unfortunately take up to 72 hours".
So I guess I'll just wait and see.3 -
But I have always run my long runs slower than race pace.
This is the right way to do a long run. Race pace is for races. ...and for shorter segments of training runs. For the long run, the occasional fast finish long run is a good training tool. Run the last 1/3 to 1/4 of the long run at your projected race pace. This is a great way to get used to running fast on tired legs and helps with the long run adaptations that take place when you go over 90 minutes, like using fat for energy instead of glycogen.7
