@polskagirl01 Hope it's nothing serious with your calf and you make a quick recovery.0

When it comes to shoe colours, we don't get a lot of choice if shopping locally - take for example the Ghost 14s D width I've just bought - one colour option only (dark blue) from the four made. The Ghost 13s D width had two colour choices (black or grey with purple), whereas in the US you get to choose from six different colours, or 14 different colours in regular width. On top of that, they've sold out of Ghost 13s in NZ. Bought my last pair from Australia, but the colour choices weren't any wider.
Fortunately I don't really care too much about running shoe colour, but definitely prefer a black/grey/blue shoe. And because of the limited range on offer, the store buyers tend to choose 'safe' colours, or one safe and one a little more adventurous, so often the choice is black anyway.
Interestingly, my coach lists colour as the third most important thing in shoe choice after comfort and suitability (right kind of tread for the terrain you're running). I will admit, one time the only colour available in my preferred shoe was lilac (one of my least favourite colours) and I barely wore them, preferring my worn out shoes in light grey - and it wasn't a conscious choice, just a gut level decision not to choose them.8 -
I am not as picky about my shoe color. It really depends. My favorite pair of ravenna was a pink to purple pair. But I love my black/white/green On Clouds. And I have a weird obsession with Brooks tie dye and Murica shoes. And Christmas shoes. Which I only wear from Black Friday to 12/31. LOL5
-
Shoe color - I only wear Topo Athletic shoes now and within that brand only 2 styles - ST-x and Magnafly - x so I am limited in colors to what they have for the current version. They tend to sell out but I can occasionally find then on sale. I like fun designs and colors though not necessarily bright. I love all the fun Brooks designs but alas they aren't right for my feet! I did have multiple pairs of Skora's a while back that were neon yellow/green that I loved. They actually did glow in the dark. The pair of Topo's I am eyeing for my free pair are a lovely teal. I also don't mind black - they don't show the dirt so much.
@polskagirl01 - I hope your calf is ok and feels better for your HM coming up!
No run today. Spent the day on paint colors, finalizing flooring and listing furniture for sale and responding to those interested. I also cleaned out a bunch of junk for charity (our friend loved gadgets, oh so many gadgets!).
Still supposed to be cool tomorrow but heating up again into the 90's... we also have another new fire. Not close to us but impacts the air quality for sure. The heat and dry winds also drive up the fire danger again.5 -

I hope you're feeling better today @polskagirl01
Yesterday was a rest day, I did Yoga for Runners via Yoga with Adrienne. Today I got a 1 mile walk and a 4 mile run in before settling into work.
I had a "duh" moment yesterday when I realized the reason my shoulders, back, and neck hurt so much when I run is because - in my pure state of social awkwardness and clumsiness- I stare at the ground for my entire run to avoid eye contact with strangers and to ensure I don't trip on anything. Today I was mindful of keeping my head lifted and looking forward and my back/neck/shoulders feel(s) SO MUCH BETTER. I also broke down and spent the $50 on the green feet inserts I was trying to see if I could do without (previously part of my fitting at the local running store), which arrived yesterday and I ran with today, and my hips and knees also feel better. So, the moral of the story is I should probably stop being socially awkward and cheap if I want to run and not hurt so much.
Edit: Forgot to include my total mileage.October mileage:
Total - W: 7/10, R: 24.5/40

Having a bit of a lupus flare following my booster, which isn’t surprising as I had a flare for about a week following dose 1&2. Just some vascular inflammation so far, lifted and ran anyway and didn’t die, but not 100%. I’m hoping it will go away instead of getting worse, you never know with lupus.
5k supposed to be a tempo run but took it easy because of the flare. Beautiful weather.10 -
@polskagirl01 ouch on your leg! Hope it is feeling better each day.
@quilteryoyo glad you are starting to feel better.
@mshawski great job on diagnosing your back/neck/shoulder pain. Hope it continues to work!
@rheddmobile hope your lupus flare doesn't last too long!1 -
Did a 90 minute aerobic run yesterday and felt good - no pain or discomfort, which was a relief after the day before's horrible mess of a run. However, my hip was really sore last night, even after rolling and yoga. I can feel it is out of alignment but osteos and physios aren't open in Auckland yet (yay, week 8 of lockdown). I'm just going to do what I can to look after it. I have an hour's run and an hour's yoga on the schedule for today - if I do the yoga first, it'll probably help (I will have to do more after but that happens while we watch TV so not an inconvenience). Rest day on Friday (with more yoga), so am hoping it comes right for the weekend.7
-
@rheddmobile oh no, I hope you feel better quickly.
@quilteryoyo I'm glad to hear you're feeling better enough to not take the medicine, but hope you get back to 100% very soon!
I tried to take it easy, walked my bike up the big hill for school drop-off/pickup, wore compression sleeve on and off, didn't run... but I did have to spend 45 minutes helping move 2 tons of coal (in 25kg bags) into the furnace room. I used a dolly for a good bit of the work, but it was still a lot of lifting. If it was my house, I'd seriously be looking into widening the door so we could get a loaded pallet through. My calf is in that sore kind of state where it's basically threatening to cramp up on you at any moment if you make the wrong move. But I really think it will be fine by the weekend. I can stop whining about it!
Let's all be careful!9 -
@ContraryMaryMary I have found that changing the height of my heels UP helps with hip pain. So when my shins hurt I wear flats and when my hips hurt I wear heels. Hope yours feels better soon.
@rheddmobile interesting about the lupus flare. For some reason it seems like the Covid vaccines (and covid itself) target any weak points we have in our body... hope it eases off quickly.

October Goal: 111 Miles
10/3: 10.30 miles
10/5: 5.51 miles
10/6: 5.11 miles
10/7: 7.10 miles
10/10: 10.51 miles
10/12: 5.52 miles
Q0/13: 5.20 miles
49.25/111 miles completed for October
Once again I didn't have time to post my run yesterday. I did run 5.5 miles. It was an OK run. I was slow at about an 11:00 min pace. But it was warm and windy and humid.
Today's run was one of those runs that just suck. When I got up at 4:30 this morning it was 81°F, feels like 84 with a dew point 70° , 86% humidity and 22 mph winds. I was very slow starting out running into the wind,, but it was a little better on the way home. Tomorrow the plan calls for 8 miles, but the forecast calls for rain so we'll have to see. I know a lot of you enjoy running in the rain, but I'm not a big fan of it especially when it is dark and windy.
This week had been really stressful and I still haven't had a chance to get caught up on the thread, but I have been working on it and giving likes and hugs.

@shanaber Glad the renovations are coming along nicely. Sad about the fire though.
That sounds like a really fun run this morning @Teresa502 . Those one year old's can be exhausting. LOL
Nice run @Tramboman ! All of the chickadees must have been at my house. Seems they are everywhere.
@mshawski "So, the moral of the story is I should probably stop being socially awkward and cheap if I want to run and not hurt so much." This made me laugh. Glad you figured out what to do to keep from hurting after every run.
@rheddmobile I hope you feel better soon!
@ContraryMaryMary Glad you were able to run pain free. I hope the yoga makes your hip feel better.
Thanks @polskagirl01 I'm glad your calf isn't too bad today. Hope it's okay for the weekend race.

I played tennis this morning and then went into work. I was supposed to get off at 3, but wound up needing to work until 3:30. I was there mostly during the nap time for the kids, so was an easy day for me. The worst part was trying to stay awake. Anyway, when I got really sleepy, I laid down in the floor and did my back exercises and stretches. Did that a couple of times today. That really seems to be working. I can still feel it, but it is much, much better today. I guess I need to be like @polskagirl01 and quit whining about it. LOL
I had planned to try to run 3 miles today, but, with having 30 minutes less time between work and going to church, I had to settle for walking one mile and running one mile. I did run the entire mile on the driveway, which meant I ran up the dreaded hill closest to my house. I wouldn't want to do that for a long run, but it was good to do it a couple of times for the mile. My mile pace was 12:51, which is really good for driveway runs for me.7 -
Liked and hugged my way through. Hope everyone is feeling better soon. And this is a safe space to whine as long as you need to

I went to HM/marathon group tonight and it was probably my best workout this year. I don't think it's entirely the new pink shoes. The workout was 5-6-4 minute intervals x 2 sets, with 2 minute recovery between for the first set and 90 seconds recovery for the second set. These long intervals are a hard workout and I was dreading this after not sleeping well last night and really dragging today. But the weather was certainly good, a little humid but nice 60 degree temp that cooled down a little as it got dark.
The track at the high school was being used so we headed over to a neighborhood where there is a loop that has very little traffic. The loop has a hill on one end, so this adds to the workout. We ran half the interval and then turned around and ran back, so never completing the loop - and we ran it in the direction that we were doing the uphill on the way out and downhill on the way back. I love the downhill part and I actually felt really good. I even pulled off an 8:53 minute mile - with the critical caveat that I stopped my watch during the recovery so that mile was not all run in one shot. Still. I'll take it as progress because I have been very slow this whole training season and that is an awesome time for me. The difference is likely that I have not been hiking nearly so much in the last few weeks and have had more time to recover.
Speaking of, my last hike #46 of 46 is now tentatively schedule for November 7. Fingers crossed for cooperative weather. It's likely to have snow, but a sunny day would be great

I lifted today and felt much better than yesterday, despite getting not enough sleep, so it seems like it might be fine. My mom’s doctor sent her an automated thing about a colonoscopy and now she is obsessed with getting a colonoscopy day before yesterday. I really wish her various doctors would stop sending her alerts on her phone. What with the military insurance plus Medicaid she is like a fountain of money and they would have her in the office literally every week if I let them - the last visit the doctor didn’t even do anything, took no tests, just sort of read her chart, waved his hand in blessing and that was it. But she gets obsessed with every tiny thing and they disturb her peace.

@katharmonic that's so exciting to have your hike #46 planned! And the whole challenge is impressive.
