@shanaber I love the puppy pics. They both seem to have such fun personalities.
@rheddmobile those ARE some ugly shoes. I'd wear them too, though, if they were comfortable. I also wouldn't call your afghan ugly, but it definitely clashes with the shoes, haha.1 -

Mostly cloudy, mid 30s F, with a strong west wind. Saw about 100 snow geese, some Canada geese, a few squirrels, and a pair of mallards.
@quilteryoyo You should know by now that wind's purpose is to blow the leaves from your yard into your neighbor's yard. Raking is unnecessary.
Won't be hard for me to figure out 2022 goals -- just renumber my failed goals from 2021.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)

@shanaber love the pics of Hobbes and Beaux. Hobbes will be so tired by the end of the 10 day sleepover. Or maybe he is adjusting and wants a permanent buddy
Ha, I did enjoy my vacation over-indulgence. I didn't overstuff myself at any one meal, but I certainly didn't take my chances on ever getting too hungry.4 -
Early morning fasted 12 mile trail run, average pace of 10:03 min per mile with 1,477 feet of elevation.
It was dry but very windy and cold up the top of the mountain. Felt good though and hope to do some speed work tomorrow/Wednesday.

I never posted my run yesterday. It was an OK run. It was chillier than I thought or would be and it was windy and cloudy. Just a gloomy day. I'm sure some of you heard about the school bus accident involving the high school band from Andrews, TX. Three people were killed including the band director. I grew up about 3 blocks from him and we started school in Kindergarten and graduated together. He was a really good man and the tragedy of his death was really on my mind. So my heart was really heavy as I ran thinking about Darin and his wife, Karen, who was seriously injured. And all those kids who were on the bus.

@marisap2010 - Happy race runniversary!
@Teresa502 - Love the shirt from your turkey trot. I also like the smaller races sometimes. It's nice to just line up and go instead of corrals and lots of waiting around. And people seem more friendly.
@rheddmobile Looks like a great find for used shoes. Altras are so ugly but I kind of love their ugliness. I gravitate towards shoes that just scream at you.
@scott6255 So glad you had a pain free run!
@polskagirl01 Hope you continue to feel better and the kidney stone doesn't give you any more issues.
@quilteryoyo Sorry to hear you had a set back after the leaf raking. Stupid leaves!
@kgirlhart I saw a news story about that accident this morning. So tragic and I hope his wife will be ok.2 -
5 miles this morning.
I suspect I overestimated how many runs my November schedule would allow when I set my mileage goal, so Unsure I'm hitting 60 miles this month, but my "normal" run is up to 4 or 5 miles instead of the 3 it was in September so progress is being made and that's all sorts of fun.

I knew I forgot to post my weekend run but apparently missed one before that too.
If I can get out in the morning, the weather is perfect right now. I also have absolutely nothing to complain about.
On Saturday, I got out later in the afternoon and it was a little bit warm, but still pretty nice. I noticed my legs were feeling the pounding a bit more than normal and my feet were tired on the back half. I chalked it up to the warmer temps, running later in the day, and having recently picked up some speed work so was running on slightly tired legs. However, when I got home and took my shoes off I realized I was wearing a really old worn-out pair of shoes that I keep around just for walking. They probably have 100s of miles on them. I honestly do not know why I grabbed those shoes since I have not run in them in over a year, but it made me feel better that my legs normally would probably have been fine on that distance if I were wearing decent shoes! My knees were sore for the rest of the day, and my legs were still feeling it a little bit this morning. Lesson learned, I definitely cannot run in old shoes! It's amazing to me that some of you keep shoes for so many miles.5 -
22 Nov. 138.42 out of 150 done. 145.9 left to go for 2021 miles. @kgirlhart I did not know that bus crash was in your area. How very sad. And yes the weather matched the mood I think. I have been thinking the weatherman has been totally off the past few days. I looked Sat night and it said lows in the 40's so I put a blanket on Bandit. It never got lower than 68. And then last night the weather said it was going to stay warm so I left him with just a light sheet on and it ended up in the 40's.... We must be right on the edge of some systems so they have no clue.

@shanaber I was noticing that collar on Beaux. He must be just starting his training as it looks like a very controlling one! I did not sign up for run the year again altho I liked filling out the passport it really is too many miles or Kms for my old legs....
@Orphia congrats on building up your stamina this month and meeting your goal!
@polskagirl01 HOLY SMOKES you go from being ill to having a kidney stone!! what a run of bad luck. I think you need to burn some incense or something. Hope this is a better week for you. wow.

So far behind on the posts as usual! We finished this part of our testing early so I have a week at home, well almost at home, I leave on Wed morning to meet Skip at the beach until Sunday. Yay! Mommy daughter time! Work was really killing me so my running last week suffered, that’s okay I don’t want to make running a chore so if I choose not to run I didn’t. I did manage to get my November half in. I’m really excited about this one, the others were with some walking or I did 10 miles and finished 3 at night something like that, this one was 13.1 all running, no splitting it up, no walking, I’m so happy. Still 50 minutes behind my PR but hey I’m good with that.
Medal for Nov
MFP just told me I’ve been here 8 years. Wow
Thanks everyone for the kind words on the 12K. I just signed up for a HM in February at Gulf Shores called We Run This Beach. It’s in the state park and it has full and half options. Skip is doing the full (or so she tells me), I’ll do the half.
I went through the posts I missed doing liking and hugging.
@katharmonic beautiful pictures from last week.
@rheddmobile I get very frustrated with people who don’t move or take up a whole trail. In the 12K Ansley’s Angels was there, they are an organization that runs with adults (mostly) in special race wheelchairs. I ran with them a bit and if that girl didn’t yell on your right over and over and over, if you can’t hear someone yelling at you because either you are rude or have earbuds in just think if she was a car or attacker. OMG I don’t know if I should laugh or cry about the couple with the dog. Maybe she had a plan to push him off the cliff!
@polskagirl01 sorry about the hospital trip

Great job on your November half @skippygirlsmom! I haven't unwrapped the November medal yet, I like it. And wow to 8 years on MFP! I've been on 6, it's kind of shocking how fast time goes by isn't it? And so great to have built an online community over those years.
@polskagirl01 hope you are feeling better and the stone is not painful now.

Warm-up before strength training, per usual a little shorter than planned. Way behind the mileage goal for the month but I knew it was too ambitious to set the usual 100 mile goal.

@skippygirlsmom - congratulations on your HM! You are making an amazing comeback! How is your ankle feeling? I have been here for 10 years and can't believe it has been that long!
@SummerSkier - Beaux is really young, just 8mos and the collar does help control him better. Just a tiny correction reminds him of where he needs to be, important because he wanders all over and I have tripped with him before. A lot of people don't like that type of collar but when used properly they work very well. His parents work with a trainer for him (he is a rescue so not a lot of early training) and the trainer recommended it and it is only used for going for walks. We also used one for Hobbes when he was younger. Now we only use it when we go to the dog beach, to get from the car to the beach where he can be in just a normal collar, because he gets just SO excited. I hear you on the tired old legs - I am pretty sure mine are even older and in a little over a week they will be even older yet!
@katharmonic - At times Hobbes seems to love having him here to play and hang out with and other times he just wants to escape to anywhere that Beaux isn't. 🤣 We leave the day after Beaux goes home, to drive to No CA and I expect that Hobbes will sleep the entire way!
@martaindale - I think the distances we get on our shoes are highly dependent on how much cushion they have and we are used to. I wear pretty minimal shoes so there isn't much cushion to get compressed/worn out and I can easily get more than 500 miles, as long as all the other parts hold up. My more cushioned shoes though I typically seem to get much less before they start to give me niggles or out right pain.
@rheddmobile - When I had the Altra Ones I always felt like they looked like clown shoes!
Another hot, dry and windy day today. Beaux had us up early so I went ahead and took the pups out while it was somewhat cooler (mid-70s). Beaux is at that age where pups become afraid of things and the wind made him really jumpy. The plan was to walk with the pups and then go out by myself for a run. I ended up just taking them for all of it. I didn't want to push Beaux to run too much so we did short bits of running mixed with walking, which also works into the training process - he doesn't just get to go full speed and pull us along, although my pace, even with the walking was a minute per mile faster than I have normally been running! Almost like interval speed work! It was nearing 90 again by the time we got home and the wind and low humidity (9%) had taken its toll on all three of us. I didn't take one but both pups crashed out for nice long naps!

Mostly sunny, upper 20s F, with a little breeze that shifted so it could be in my face for most of the run. Saw a nice buck on the way home from the chiropractor. Heard a lonely robin squawking; some nuthatches talking, and a bluejay foraging under a beech tree.

I haven't ran since Sunday morning due to getting my booster later that morning. I felt pretty crappy all day yesterday with body aches and fatigue so I didn't want to commit to running before work this morning. Woke up still feeling crappy but much better after a shower and Tylenol. Perhaps I will get back out there tomorrow. I like what @skippygirlsmom said about not wanting running to become a chore.6

23 Nov. 145 out of 150 done. 139.4 left to go for 2021 miles. Weather is supposed to start getting crappy tomorrow night so it is going to take ALL my strength to try to keep up the mileage in the cold rain. yuck.

Ah just when I thought I’d have a few days at home, someone sent upgrades to my servers at work and in order for them to boot back up you need to input a code…well they all went to sleep to not wake up until I went in to input the code…THEN I get home another guy says hey I’m going to send another update to your servers, WTF they can stay dead until Monday LOL. We don’t have anyone in the building so there’s no one to ask to do it for me. Have a nice 5 days of sleep.
Leaving in the morning to head to the beach and meet up with Skip. The condo is big enough for friends/boyfriend but I'm happy to report all those invited are going to see family instead...I love her friends and I like the boy well enough but it will be nice to spend time with just her.
@shanaber for the most part the ankle is good, it gets sore and swollen and sometimes gives me a sharp pain, but nothing big deal. The thing I don’t like is I can’t flex it nearly as much as the other and 2 of my toes are still numb. 10 years is a long time.
@Teresa502 sorry the booster had you not feeling so well. I think we need to give ourselves permission to not run/walk/exercise for a day or two or what we mentally need for ourselves.

@skippysmom it has been less than a year since your ankle surgery if I recall. When I had knee surgery one time the entire outside of my calf area up around my knee was numb for a long long time. Like years. I actually don't recall how long but the feeling did come back. I wonder if the numbness in your toes is due to swelling internally or the hardware or the surgery messing with some nerves. With my femor spiral fracture and titanium rod I had to have them remove the screws at my knee a year later as they started bothering me. I also had SHARP bone pangs with that particular recovery as the femor knitted. It drives me a little crazy to realize that some things will NEVER return to the full place they were (like flexibility for you) but I guess I learned that lesson a long time ago after ligament damages. sigh. I am just grateful that I can be as active as I can.5
-
So I've decided to remove myself from this challenge since I'm not quite up to running just yet. I'll be back, though.9
-
@skippygirlsmom happy 8th mfp-anniversary! Have fun at Gulf Shores! Our extended family has been going there for Summer vacation for many years.
@SummerSkier hope the weather isn't too too bad so you can get those final miles in.
@Teresa502 sorry you are having bad symptoms from the booster. I was hoping to get mine this week but think it's going to be pushed to next week.
@shanaber it looks like Hobbs and Beaux are becoming best friends! They are very cute together.
6 miles this evening. Felt pretty good after the first few minutes. Tried to take it fairly easy. Ended up just about like my normal 6 mile pace, if not a tad faster. Not bad at all.
