@Scott6255 thank you and hope your shins feel better with a little rest. Great job exceeding your mileage goal. Happy new year to you and may 2022 be your injury free year!
@shanaber well the wind and rain certainly doesn't help - it can feel much more miserable than colder temps. I hear you on the lower miles this year. I also have my 2nd lowest total since I started running. But yes, finishing the year healthy is an important accomplishment!
@kgirlhart nice job exceeding your monthly goal.
@summerskier and @quilteryoyo too bad about not being easier to upload previous miles or go back past October. But we certainly don't blame you for not wanting to spend all your time entering at a time. We've gone 24,306 miles as of this morning and that's pretty impressive!

Took another easy-paced run this morning and the back is holding up well. I have strength training tomorrow so will take a rest day from running (and take it easy in strength too) and then hopefully finish up the year with a longer run on Friday. I'm already pleased that I exceeded 100 miles for the month for only the 4th time this year. If I get to 110 that will be my highest mileage month of the whole year.
Massage tonight5 -
Short 3.6 mile run, with youngest Son and his friend riding along on their new bikes. Boys enjoyed and hopefully I can get them to do this more often.
December total:
67 miles & 6,255 feet of elevation5 -
@SummerSkier and @quilteryoyo - I don't know what you use to track your runs but you might try connecting to ChallengeHound and see if it will pick up your past runs. I have Strava set up and it synchs automatically so I don't have to go and enter it manually.
@polskagirl01 - That is so weird about the one person's comments... so you can only run if you are not healthy and want to get healthier? I would be really curious what their point was. We have friends in ND who ice fish and drive their pickup trucks out onto the ice. It would worry me too but I guess when you deal with it over time you know what to look for.
@Tramboman - that one live worm must have really been hearty to survive! Glad your foot is feeling stable!
Seeing you all running in 30F and below really makes me feel like a wimp. I honestly think yesterday's run felt colder than the one I did in early December on our trip when it was low 40's high 30's. I think because it was cold but the sun was out, maybe?
No run for me today. I will get the January thread set up.4 -

Whenever I run after work, I always forget to log it. It was another hot one yesterday. I had 45 mins at HM pace on my schedule. Wasn't sure how that would go with the heat. I wore my hydration pack again. It is really nice to have my hands free! Pretty quickly into my run, I started getting this crampy pain deep in my medial low calf on my right side. I stopped and stretched and noticed I could actually see a knot in area that was hurting. I massaged it a bit and started back running and it felt better. Whew! Then a mile later, same thing popped up. I massaged it a bit more and it wasn't an issue again. I used a massager on my calves last night and will do a good stretch session tonight. Hopefully it doesn't return. I think it's just a symptom of me being a little lazy with stretching and rolling lately. Race day is 2.5 weeks away. Can't be getting hurt now!
Anyway, because of the early stops, by first couple of miles were way off. But, the last 3 were close enough. A few seconds slower than I would really want but not surprising in the heat. Keeping my pace up in the heat is soooo hard. I am crossing my fingers for good conditions come race day.5 -
I set up the account. I added monthly run mileage but I cannot get my account to connect to the MFP challenge... It's way too awkward... Strange. You would think it would be simpler. Still asking me for a CODE to join the MFP challenge. ...0

The January 2022 thread is open so go and set your goal for January and for the year if you are inclined to!
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10852006/january-2022-monthly-running-challenge/p1?new=13 -
@SummerSkier - I didn't remember a code but I went back to the January 2021 thread and looks for a post from @TheMrWobbly, who originally set it up. The code to join is MFPRunners2021
Also I looked at what you can connect with to automatically synch your runs and these are the devices/apps:
Garmin, Fitbit, Strava, all the UnderArmour MapMy (Run, Walk, Ride, Hike, etc) and one I don't recognize called Coros3 -
When I followed the link to the Run the World group it looked like the same as 2021, and showing 2021 data. Is it just the same group rolling over into next year?
ETA - I won't have much mileage in 2022 but any I do get I am happy to add.2 -
OK seriously.... when I put the code in it tells me this now
Unfortunately this challenge does not have enough participant credits. Please contact Andrew Walkington Organization, the challenge administrator, and request that they add participant credits so that you can join.

That's a good idea @polskagirl01 . I'll work on that.
Nice running @katharmonic . Enjoy your massage.
@sweetdaisy13 That's great that your son and friend rode along with you. I hope they will continue to go.
Nice run @martaindale . Glad your calf quit cramping up.
Thanks for setting up January @shanaber. I have Garmin, but don't know how to sync it with anything. Plus, I wonder if it would put in my tennis and other activities or just running. I think I'll try @polskagirl01 's suggestion first.
That's weird @SummerSkier .2 -
@WhatMeRunning - I don't think anyone has set up a Run the World challenge for 2022 yet. @summeskier was trying to add her miles so we could wrap up 2021.
Maybe if @TheMrWobbly sees this he can add in some 'credits' or if anyone is friends with him could you send him a DM maybe?0 -

Actually it might only count your running, and for you we'd made an exception to count your walking. Hmm.
As for @SummerSkier 's issue, I guess we need to ask @TheMrWobbly for help with that!1 -

@quilteryoyo yay for tennis. Even the sides of our greenways are too lumpy for me to feel comfortable on grass.
Thanks @shanaber for setting us up for January

I just went into out Run The World Challenge and added all of my mileage that I had missed - running miles only. That added 238.02 miles. We're now 197 miles away. If you want me to add my walking miles (that are 3.5 mph or faster), that would add over 200 miles and we would make it. It's up to you all whether you want me to or not.4

It was raining when I got up this morning. But it was a light rain and not too cold. And it looked like it would be clearing soon so I decided to go for it. But by the time I got out it had stopped raining. I have to admit I was glad. I ran my usual 5 mile run. Today's run put me at 1301 miles for 2021 which hit my goal of 1300 running miles. (I counted all of my miles for Run the Year, not just running.) I'll have one more run this year. I can't believe it is almost 2022.

It does not feel like December with these temps. I have run in shorts for the last two nights. Last night was a short run after work, and tonight I ran with two women from my running group. It started to rain on us, and the warm rain felt so nice!
All this talk of hiking makes me want to go hiking this weekend. I’m too far from the mountains to do the kind of hike I’d like to do, but I might find a local trail if the weather is nice.
December total: 61.765 -
So the good news is I ran 5k without stopping for the first time since my heart did the thing, the bad news is my heart did the thing again. At least I know now it’s unlikely to kill me but it’s debilitating and I want it to stop. I’m reluctant to go on beta blockers because they cause weight gain and fatigue and really kill the ability to exercise hard.
Run the World team! We’re so close guys! If you upload manually and have runs you haven’t added, now is the time. If you have time for an extra long run today or tomorrow… we have three hundred twenty eight miles left to go, if everyone did an extra half marathon in the next two days, we would make it! If we don’t make it, well… New Year’s party with the Chinese coast guard, hopefully someone will rescue us off the coastline!

Cloudy, upper 30s F, and no wind at all. Time was exactly halfway between slow and easy, so it was a perfectly sleasy run. Saw a blue heron -- I cannot remember having ever seen one so late in the year.
Run the Year team: a big finish will put you over the top. Keep going!!!

Sleasy recovery run this morning. It was so foggy, it was like running through a haunted house! A so few cars and people leading up to the holiday weekend. I'm not going to quite make my goal but I did the mileage on my training plan, so gonna call it a success. One more run tomorrow to round out 2021!5 -
Nice running @kgirlhart ! Congrats on reaching your year's mileage goal!
@rheddmobile So sorry to hear that your heart did the thing again. That's crazy. Do they know why running is causing it to go whacky? I did count my rehab miles of walking when I first had the surgery. Once I was able to run, I just counting the running ones. I try to go back and add in the walking miles since I have been having back issues, since I was told by the chiropractor to not run there for a while. It should add up to close to 200 miles. We shall see.
@scott6255
Yeah for a sleasy run @Tramboman .

I didn’t run before work because rain was in the forecast so I took running clothes to work with me. For some reason it’s such a struggle for me to run after work. The weather didn’t help today. It was one of those gray winter days. I read some here before I left and you all motivated me to change clothes and get out there so I got 7 miles done. Passed my 100-mile monthly goal and met my 110-mile stretch goal. Going hiking tomorrow so that finishes me up for the month...the year!
Yikes @rheddmobile. Even though you know what you’re heart is doing, it has to still be scary when it happens. How is your husband feeling? Is he all recovered from his bug?

Did I miss a link for January?
Run the World - I'm with @Scott6255 as I may not run at all today. I'm planning to do a longer run on New Year's Day, even though doing it today would get me back into the 100-mile club for December and would bump me up a spot in the run the world rankings. Nope, not doing it.
I only got 2021 km if you count all of my various other activities. HOWEVER, I did have a great year elevation-wise, as Strava counted over 25,000 meters of elevation gain from running/trail running!
Here's my year. I cropped out a bunch of shorter activities like football, kayaking etc.
"Water sports" is actually the warmups from Polar Bear club, as I don't cover much distance in the pool.
I had an injury in April-May, then was at ZERO for most of November while recovering from covid. So I'm very happy with my response to this year, even though my distance was shorter. I also cycled a LOT less, and blame my 40 Weeks of running 40k Challenge, which was also a good thing. Maybe a cycling goal in 2022 is in order.
Ok, actually there is a number here that's bugging me enough to do something. Maybe I can convince the family to go for a bike ride of at least 26 minutes to get my total time to 300.8 -
Traditionally I don't run on 31 Dec so I am rested for a nice long run on the 1st. However lately I have been "streaking" so if my shin (which had sympathy for Scott yesterday) behaves perhaps I will end with a short one. I apologize for not being able to join the run the world challenge as I think I would have closed the gap but maybe that would not be fair to do at the end of it anyway.
Polskagirl01 that activity log is something to be REALLY proud of. I am hoping to diversify my activity a little bit more this next year so perhaps I will be more well rounded in my health quest. I did not see the link either but I haven't been searching the challenge group either. The dang Bboard changes are still not kind to my eyes for just scrolling around unless you have a specific group or thread you want to follow.
Happy 31st everyone~!!!!!5 -

Sunny, low 40s F, and no wind at all again today. Needed to make sure I could do more than 4k so I can start the new year out right. The thoughts bouncing around in my mind today coalesced into "Old Man River." Wonder how that is appropriate?
@rheddmobile Sorry to hear your heart has acted up again.
@polskagirl01 Great log!!! Enjoyed perusing it.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

For those of you who may have missed it.
Thanks @shanaber!4 -
@rheddmobile I missed that your heart was acting up again. I hope it gets straightened out soon.
Great job everyone on meeting goals and on accepting it when you don't. I think it is important to try, but also to know when to let go of a gol when you need to heal or otherwise take care of yourself.
Saturday is usually a rest day for me so I am not going to run today. 🙃 I just realized it is Friday. 🙃 It is a holiday and I don't have to work today. I usually take Friday and Saturday as rest days. So yesterday's 5 mile run was my last run of the year. I don't know if I will run tomorrow or not. I hate to not start the year with a run, but I usually don't run on Saturdays so we'll see.3
