What nobody tells you about losing weight

The polarizing thinking is so sad yet funny. In my fat days when someone ignored me, i assumed it was always because I was fat. I refused to believe it was because they might just be having a bad day or are just shy. Now when I am thin, I feel someone only ignores me because they are having a bad day or are in a committed relationship or play for the other team. I refuse to believe that I might not just be their type lmao (delusional, I know).
Imagine walking around feeling like everyone is attracted to you at some level? How better would your day be? That’s a great reason by itself to lose the weight, I swear.16 -
That being active plays out in other areas of you life besides excercise like housework15
-
That you'll be able to wipe your *kitten* without contortions and fat cramps... 👀
Also, like someone above mentioned, you notice how people look at you differently;like you're more attractive9 -
this year's performance review feedback was a bit different from the previous ones. Throughout the years, it has always been about my work performance but this time I got "We love your smile. Never stop smiling, ok?" I definitely was smiling after that.14

How your body shape is totally different. It's completely changed from what it was at the same weight previously.
How you lose inches in random ways. One calf lost significantly more than the other...took 6 months for them to be almost the same size.
Loose skin is better than being overweight...shaper underwear can hide a lot!
Getting in and out, up and down much more easily.18 -

Interesting how people can disagree with someone else's experiences.🤫🙃🙄
I think there's an issue with the "disagree" button being touched accidentally, especially when people are using the app.
I wish there wasn't a disagree button but I'd love a "laughing" button!
People are weird. 🤷🏼♀️
Yes you are so right .. people are weird.. and they get weirder and more brazen when they have anonymity.5 -
Friends who are thinner than you will start competing against you. They don't want to be beaten by your weight loss. If you say you've lost 5 pounds, they say, "I've only lost 2 pounds. No FAIR!" They get all upset about your recent victories because they can't say the same. They don't really understand the concept of BMI. I can lose more weight than you, friend, because I have more to lose to get into my acceptable normal weight BMI range. Oh Boy, do I have a lot of weight to lose to get there. I have about 35 more pounds to go.12

I walked 5 miles a day for 6 months as well as doing weightlifting 3x a week for the same amount of time. I basically ate what I wanted and put on some muscle. After the 6 months I had lost a whopping 13 pounds.
A dear friend who met me 21 years ago when I was 80 pounds overweight commented on how "my cheeks sink in" and looked horrified. She never saw me anywhere near a normal weight for me. Now she has seen pictures and she sees that my face was very pudgy before the weight loss.5 -

In yoga I constantly hear,”you carry your emotions and stress in your hips”.
Maybe that’s why mine were so big. I had to have big ole saddlebags to carry all that.
I guess I carry mine in my belly, LOL.2 -
That kids clothing is a lot cheaper than adult clothing of the same size and often a lot more fun. A girls XL and women's medium are pretty close to the same size but the girls comes with WAY more unicorns, LOL26

I think I love you even more @wunderkindking
Target Cat and Jack. SEQUIN UNICORNS!!!!! And their girls jeans are embroidered with pandas and stuff. I must have ten of their sequin shirts and pair them with trucker jackets (or use them for Jammie’s because I like getting up all glittery and shiny).
People stop me in the street and ask “where did you find that?!” I’m not telling!
My daughter wants some Cat and Jack for the impending baby and wants to know if I’d “mind” having a look at Target. Um……..not at all, honey!!!14 -

Honestly a motivation for me 🤣 why are all the fun stuff kids only? I want fun outfits3 -

I lean into boys clothes myself. Robots are much more my style than unicorns! I love that the long sleeves are the right length. Who needs petite sizing, just get kids! Dressed today in a boy's white Oxford shirt paired with dark jeans.6 -

I never knew this. This is motivation for me to get my weight down. I'm already short enough to be in kids clothing. Maybe I won't have to hem them up when I buy pants. As it is I have to take off 5 inches off the bottom of my slacks. Funny story when I had knee replacement surgery the Physical Therapist had to order a pediatric walker for me!!!7 -
No one ever told me how much fun it is to shop at Goodwill. There are way more clothes in smaller sizes including from some of my favorite stores. Instead of spending $50 for a shirt, I'm spending $4. I have been collecting sizes down to 12's in pants. I'm in 16's now but hope to be in 12's by summer. Bring it on!!12

Agreed. And some people will be mean about it, when we are in our 60's and still fit and strong, telling us to act our age! Too bad for them, I'll keep having fun with a bounce in my step, active, and keeping the body fat DOWN!!!11 -

And then as you maintain for many years, it is incentive to not let the weight creep back up - that's expensive too! Double the cost, double the frustration, just keep planning for success and we get to keep our success! It can start to creep up extremely easily if we let it.5 -

How awesome it is to look at the promotional pictures at the gym and think "in a few months I could look like that".
How runny your poo gets if you eat loads of veggies

I have to say I was pretty mortified the time I walked out of the handicapped stall, and there was a person in a wheelchair waiting for the stall. Never again.6 -

You really don't have to be mortified. Handicapped stalls are not reserved facilites, unlike handicapped parking.18 -

Yes yes yes yes yes!!!!!!
I panicked after putting a few holiday pounds on, even though right brain said,”it’s water weight, silly!”
All I could think of was my beautiful drawer full of candy colored leggings. My Precioussses!!!!
Those’ll keep me in line, as if fear of GERD coming back wasn’t enough.

It's silly, but this is SO MOTIVATING! The last time we visited LegoLand, I was upset that all the Princess Unikitty shirts were in kids sizes. If we ever make it there again, I just might be able to get my own!
I've got a way to go before I'm in a women's medium.... But I really like this glittery, silly goal!11 -
- How it doesn't hurt just to reach down and pick up something that dropped on the floor.
- How it doesn't hurt each time you get up from sitting. I used to feel 30 yrs older than I was!
- How much confidence you'll feel just knowing that you CAN do what you put your mind to!20 -
How much you’ll spend buying cute new clothes…7

* the inability to sit still for long periods of time.
* no longer dreading asking for a seatbelt extension on an airplane
* being able to grocery shop and not need the cart for support

I am very territorial about sharing food now! I have logged it, and I get every single bite! My husband on 2 occasions stole a chip from my bag. He almost lost his hand. He knows better now, I hope. I am down 32 lbs by tracking. Every ounce of those chips are MINE!35 -
Visible veins and vascularity reminding you of your own mortality (Makes you wonder if you'd even survive a well placed paper cut)

- People will suddenly treat you better - the Halo Effect is a thing
- On that note you'll get a lot more attention and for some, that's very much unwanted and can cause a relapse into weight gain to feel safer
- Your head may take longer to catch up with your changing body than you expect
- Whether overtly or covertly, others may try to sabotage your efforts to change
- You'll thank yourself regularly for starting and not stopping26
