Barbara, I would also stay away from Samsung, we bought a fridge a few, well maybe several, years ago now and had nothing but problems with it. The 6th time (yes, you saw that correctly) the tech came out (and this was only over the course of a few months) he said he was going to suggest to Samsung that they replace it as he had pretty much rebuilt the fridge. They eventually did and we've been quite happy with the replacement, but we had such a hassle, their customer service really stinks. I have to admit, the smell of cooking cabbage isn't that great, but when mixed with all the other smells going on, it blends nicely! lol
Dishwashers and garbage disposals: I've never had a garbage disposal, but did clean some homes with them, they need something pleasant smelling ground up in them every once in awhile or what a stench! I have owned dishwashers for the last 30+ years and would not want to be without one. Having said that, I do do dishes by hand as I have some stuff that shouldn't go in and some stuff that just takes up too much space. It is just the two of us and it gets run every few days.
Hubby and I got our boosters yesterday, I have been feeling find today, hubby not so much. He spent a great deal of time in bed today, but seems to be recovering this evening. He felt quite flu-like and he did not like it!
That's all I got tonite.
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Mary I use our dishwasher for storage only but I find handwashing dishes meditative.
Lighter, lovelies!

2022: Be still and listen.
I've always hated washing dishes. Even when I lived alone, I hated washing dishes and considered getting a dishwasher ... but I really had nowhere to put one. The kitchen was so small.
I don't like getting my hands into anything wet, slimy, etc. I don't like hand lotions. I don't like hand sanitiser with aloe. I don't like dripping any sort of food on my hands. And the idea of putting my hands into a sink full of dirty dishes is just ... yuck!
I could just tolerate it with my dishes.
I thought I could tolerate it when my husband and I started living together about a year after we married but that situation started circling the drain right quick. He likes to use lots of dishes when he cooks and I'd have a kitchen full of sticky, slimy, dirty dishes to deal with every evening. It would take me a solid hour or more to get through it all. I talked him into using fewer dishes which helped a bit ...
Then a couple years later, we headed off for a round the world trip for 8 months and when we came back we housesat at a friend's place ... and she had a dishwasher. It was heavenly! And we vowed never to be without one.

Well, that's it. I have finished working at the place I've worked for the past 8.25 years.
In December 2020, I graduated with my Master's degree. I have been happy where I am, so I wasn't in a rush to try applying for jobs. However, I'm not getting any younger and I do have more education than when I was hired, so when a work colleague let me know about a job possibility, I thought I'd give it a go.
All of a sudden, in September/October, I had applied for 7 jobs!
Of those 7 jobs, I got 4 interviews.
Of those 4 interviews, I got 2 jobs.
That's right ... 2.
I'll be permanent at one, and seconded to the other for 6 months.
Interesting times ahead!!
But over the past few months, I have been very busy with applications and interviews ... they're like a collection of final exams!! Lots of research and study and practice!!
Mixed emotions!! Doesn't seem real yet.

Congratulations Machka...
I am in awww of you diligence...
Found out last night one of my neighbors who was only 68-69 passed away she has been hospitalized in intensive care for the past 4 months.. she was diabetic and heart issues had part of her foot amputated and had open heart surgery...but just couldnt fight it all... she was a real nice lady.. I feel bad for her husband as he us disabled and in a wheelchair, she was the one who drove, they have a wheelchair accessible van and he was taking a wheelchair accessible taxi to the hospital daily.. they have a 17 yr old pup that friends help take out for a walk...
Joe is diabetic too. People have been making meals for him since Cindy has been hospitalized..
Cold and icy here today.. but will try and get out and get Homer out7 -
Morning all! Happy Tuesday! Feeling a little better. I am probably at about 75%. Still dealing with congestion and cough; but I have been told that those will linger for days/weeks. So...back to work as usual, as of yesterday. Tim is still in the thick of it. Colin is getting better, but seems to be fighting fatigue more than anything.
Penny- Sorry to hear of your mom passing; but glad you were able to be there and spend time with family. Sending you virtual hugs and strength.
Mary- I have a dishwasher and run it twice a week. I could probably run it daily, but I hand wash the majority of our dishes. Like Lisa, lack of dishwasher would not be a deal-breaker for me. I find washing dishes by hand kind of soothing. An easy no-brainer chore, that allows me to think about other things as I clean. I do have an over the sink strainer, that I don't know how I lived without it. I also do not have a garbage disposal. I use these wonderful little screens to keep small food particles out of my pipes. I don't know about where you live, but around here, it is really hard to find apartments/homes. They are being bought so fast. And the sale/rental rates are double what they were a year ago. If you price your apartment at a reasonable rate, it will go; with or without the dishwasher.
So sorry to hear of all of the family/friends and neighbors who are passing due to covid/other health issues. There is a part of me that feels like two years of NOT being around germs has made us more susceptible to everything that is floating around out there.
Rebecca- BEautiful pics of your mom!
Well, more of you I wanted to reply to, but my brain is still foggy (need more coffee and my first dose of meds) and I have to get my trash to the corner. It is trash day! The kids will be so excited. Our garbage man has ROCKSTAR status. Well, I think it's the truck, more than the man. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)5 -
Allie - So sad for your friends. It's a reminder to us all that taking care of our health should be our first priority. We can do so much to help ourselves, but we all know it is not easy, especially if we have slipped into bad habits.
Got 320 words written this morning. It was a real achievement to get to the page. Oouuff! Pleased I did though.
Today is the birthday of my friend Ros, who died a few years ago. Her friends and I have posted on WhatsApp. Her presence is with us still.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx8 -
Thanks for all your words of condolence.
Mary - When we built our house on the island we put in a 3/4 width dishwasher. I'm really pleased with it. It's big enough to swallow the dishes from a three-course meal for 8, but small enough that if I'm out there all alone, it fills quickly enough that I can run it every 3-4 days. Just a thought. I don't know if you have have narrow dishwashers in the US.
We're in the grip of a big storm. Yesterday it threw down a good foot of snow on top of the 18 inches we already had, then added some more last night. Now it's pouring rain. I was all ready to go out shopping (which I do by foot on principle) but I took one look at all the raindrops spattering the pools the rain has carved out in the ice that was already on the road and decided I'd stay indoors and make myself a cappucino.

My books arrived yesterday.
A work colleague loaned me the one on the left and I have been reading it and enjoying it so much that I bought a copy for myself, and bought the first book the author wrote as well.

@Lagopus
So good to see your post.
I can empathise about your mother. We have gone through the same thing with my younger sister, and both sets of parents. It’s such a comfort when we can be with them at the end.
As for the *glitter*, there seems to be no rhyme or reason for who gets it. And there must be people with natural immunity. I hope your family members get over it without any lasting problems.2 -
Sure can tell what all y'all read on these posts. THANKS A LOT for all the comments regarding my mom... NOT!4

There is a part of me that feels like two years of NOT being around germs has made us more susceptible to everything that is floating around out there.
If we had all been masking and staying out of crowds, that might have something to do with it, but we all know that hasn't been happening. Even with my immune status, I haven't stayed out of crowds. I pick and choose what I do, to decrease my risk, but I am around the germs plenty. For instance, I met my class of 21 on Friday, and even though we were all masked, the room holds only 24, so we are crammed in there, and the windows don't open. Over the weekend, 3 of the 21 have been put in quarantine. One with Covid and two with suspected Covid (awaiting test results). We have free tests at work, so I have been testing every Friday, and I added a test on Monday for the last two weeks, especially after the students emailed me over the weekend.
This is just a really strong, transmissible virus. Not a lot we can do about it but be vaxxed, boosted, masked, and hope if (when) we get it, it will be mild. One of my colleagues has been in the hospital since November with it. He won't be coming back to work ever. His lungs have been permanently damaged.

Sorry about that. I read a lot on my phone, so don't comment on anything until I'm at my computer, and by then, pages have gone by.
That was scary for her and for you. My mil fell and broke something in her neck once, and I was surprised that all they had her do was wear the collar.

I’m catching up on posts this afternoon. I read your comment on Penny’s post. It’s must have been a shock when your Mom fell like that. I hope the collar does the trick and she recovers quickly.
Sending positive vibes to all those who have friends/family members affected by Covid. It’s running riot over here in Northern Ireland as well. Just have to keep ourselves right and hope for the best.
I had my follow up Gynae checkup yesterday. No sign of any nasties, but I will have another checkup in 3 months to be on the safe side.
Take care and stay safe.
