@martaindale "lotz and lotz of hot hands". I love those. Saved my life during the snowcalype in Feb 2021 and I use them whenever the temps are in the 30s inside my mittens.
It's still REALLY chilly here for this time of year but my 1500 goal for the year keeps me getting out there.5 -
7 miles this evening. About 0:30/mi slower than yesterday, and it felt easier, so that tracks 😏
Broke out my race day shoes from the closet that I have been saving. They are the same Speed shoes I have been wearing, just different color. Will only put a few miles on them until race day, but I wanted to make sure there weren't any surprises.

It was another cold morning. I did not want to get up and get out this morning. But I finally got out the door and had a decent run. It was really cold for me at 34°F, but there was no wind so that helped.
Beautiful pictures @martaindale 29°F is too cold for me to camp, but my husband loves camping when it is cold.
5 -
Good morning all.
Just about forced myself to go... Bleurgh.6 -
Thanks @martaindale . Great pictures from your camping trip. Glad you had fun!
Great job getting that HM in @eleanorhawkins !
@Scott6255 Great idea about doing a trial run in your race day shoes. Is your race coming up soon? I've forgotten.
Your run today doesn't sound pleasant at all @tarun_yadavA ! Great job getting out there anyway.
Yesterday my neighbors took mom and I to Dollywood for the day. It was cold, so wound up going into the shops and watching shows to warm up, but it was fun. I was glad that I had gotten up early enough to get in a mile walk before leaving.
Today, mom and I went to the assisted living to have Thanksgiving lunch with my cousin and then did some shopping and had a visit with a friend on the way home. I was beat, but went down and did a mile on the treadmill - should have walked this morning. LOL6 -
@martaindale you are doing really well with your marathon training, and your camping trip looks beautiful!
I got in another 7 miles this evening. Looking forward to a rest day tomorrow. Saturday is supposed to be another 20, but they are calling for snow, so it may get pushed to Sunday 😁

@Scott6255 Wow, snow!?! It’s early for that kind of winter weather!3

Recovery miles this evening. One of my favorite things about fall and winter is that I still get decent weather in the afternoons and evenings. It makes it easier to get my runs in around work.5 -
Good morning everyone! Happy Friday!
Got a 5 in!6 -
Still laughing... we have actually had some rain, which we desperately need, and I was literally the only person out running this morning, despite not setting out until 9 by which time the trail I ran is usually pretty busy. I do love a proper rainy run. I should probably have taken my rain jacket and leggings instead of shorts and a light windbreaker thing over my tshirt, because I was soaked within minutes and for the first half hour or so it was pretty windy and felt chilly. I admittedly considered turning the scheduled 90 minutes into 30 then home to do the other hour on the bike, but then I warmed up and the wind died down. I did jog home instead of doing my usual 10 minute cool down walk, then went straight into a hot shower before stretching. Now all the guys from our club who've looked at Strava are telling me I'm insane lol.
I ended up running more km than I probably should have done this week so that's me done running until Monday, must be nice to the legs or they complain.7 -
Great running in the rain @eleanorhawkins . So funny that your club guys think you are insane...I would say more hardcore and tough!
I worked all day at daycare today and was tired when I got home. I'm hoping to get up early for a longish run tomorrow, so opted for a mile walk on the treadmill again. That makes 32.6/70 mile goal.2 -

I didn't post yesterday, but I did run. It was very cold both days, but not windy so that helped. I ran 5 miles yesterday and 4 miles today. Both runs were uneventful, just cold. The dog who followed me home the other day did make it back home. I saw him both days at the park. He runs up to me and tries to get my attention by bonking me in the legs with his nose. He followed me a little, but not all the way home.
@scott6255 I haven't seen snow in our forecast yet, but we are supposed to get down to 27°F this weekend. I hope the snow stays north of me.

Morning everyone!
Me done! 😊7 -
Great running @kgirlhart ! I'm glad the dog made it home and it's funny that it remembers you and wants your attention.
Your post made me smile @tarun_yadavA . It was nice to see that you had such a great run.3 -

I did my second 16 miler yesterday. Overall, the run went pretty good. My overall pace was faster than the first 1 and I did not notice the achiness in my knees and hips in the last few miles. However, I was getting some pain in my right lower calf. When I finished running and examined it more closely it was actually my Achilles. So, it seems I have Achilles tendinitis. By the time I got home, showered and ate it was starting to really hurt. I took some NSAIDs and put an ice pack on it, but I was limping around pretty good for the rest of the day.
This morning it is almost completely resolved, luckily. If I press directly on it I can still feel some tenderness but I can walk normally without pain. So, I am taking an extra rest day today. I am hoping it will basically feel normal by Sunday, and I can try out a gentle run on the treadmill. I really hope this is short-lived and doesn't become a recurrent problem because I am getting into the point in training where too much lost time feels like it would be really detrimental to my overall fitness. I know it probably wouldn't, but these are the peak weeks that really build that endurance. Fingers crossed.9 -

Well done on a second 16M for the month @martaindale3 -
Nicely done @martaindale on your second 16 miler. You are definitely getting stronger 💪
@kgirlhart we never got any snow, but it was in the low 30s this morning. So I waited a while for it to warm up to do my 2nd 20 miler. Wasn't really sure how this one was going to go, I wasn't feeling too good last night. Didn't have a planned route in my head and just kinda winged it after the first 10 miles. But it turned out alright. Just 10 seconds/mi slower than BQ pace. Now just kinda cruise for the next 3 weeks 😁

38.6/70 mile goal
It was cold and windy today, so did my run on the treadmill. I walked a total of 1.0 mile for warm up and cool down and ran 5.0 miles. The run was a run/walk for 3/2 minutes at 3X(4.5-4.8/3.8mph), then 4.2/3.8mph for 4/1 minutes. Final average pace was 13:59 min/mile...slower than I would like, but I'm not worrying about pace right now. Hopefully, next year I can improve. Avg HR was 128 bpm, max was 145 bpm.
@martaindale You are doing so good with your training. I hope your Achilles tendon just needs a couple of days of rest. Fingers crossed for you.
Great running @Scott6255 ! You are going to do great come race day.4 -

I ran 5K today. It was cold and windy, but no snow. It's supposed to be 27°F in the morning. I always have a hard time knowing what to wear when it is cold. I usually end up over dressing.
@martaindale I hope the tendinitis heals quickly.

Good Morning all!
Back-to-back 7s for me.Will have to rethink running schedules a bit, as ⚽World cup starts from today +there are some big games with Morning kick-offs.
Have a nice Sunday!!! 😊4 -
Yesterday, I ran the YWCA Turkey Trot 5K. Although men are allowed to run, they are not eligible for placement. I think there was one young man in the field yesterday. When I first started running with the C25K program, this was my first 5k. My confidence wasn’t that high and I waited until the morning of the race to sign up. I signed up as a runner instead of a walker for the first time ever. The couple working the registration table were older and when she looked at my form she yelled “she’s a runner” at the man so that he would put me in the correct category. He said “what?” and she repeated “she’s a runner.” I remember feeling like such a fraud. I wanted to say “no, I’m really not.” Fast forward 10 years, and here I am still running it.
It was a cold start at 28F. There were a lot less runners this year than in prior years. When I first ran it in 2012, there were 112 participants and 88 participants last year. Yesterday, there were only 42 of us. I think COVID really took a hit on race participation in general or maybe there are just so many more races to choose from now. I finished in 32:41 and placed 17 out of the 42 (4th out of 11 in my age group) with a pace of 10:31. A slight improvement from 2012 when I finished at 33:35. I had a couple of friends text me last night. They had recognized me in the local news clip on tv.
@martaindale – Great job getting the 16 miler done but I hate you are dealing with tendinitis. I hope it’s doing better today.
Way to go on your 20-miler @Scott6255!! Let the taper begin?
5 -
@martaindale you are SO well going to plan. I think you are smart to do a little easing for the achilles and hope that it behaves itself!
@Teresa502 challenges ALWAYS help me as long as they are forgiving and not out of reach. My challenge to run 1500 (after doing RTY last year and 1600 in 2021) is helping me close out the year running in not so pleasant weather. Enjoy the vacay!
@AlphaHowls you ALWAYS have the most gorgeous photos. Sometimes I wish I ran with my phone or that my watch took photos. I also miss "riding the sun down" and sunset photos thru the ears.
@Scott6255 I am so impressed. To think I actually know someone who is going to qualify for Boston in just a few weeks. You have really been so ON TARGET with your plan also!
@eleanorhawkins so glad to hear that your recovery is going well! Did you ever figure out what the terrible pain was from a couple months ago?
@quilteryoyo looking forward to photos and a race report from FLA in a few weeks. I think you are in the taper stage also.
@tarun_yadavA I am laughing at your alliterative Sunday Sleasy run! Surely watching the world cup athletes will motivate you to get out there and train even harder. I know watching the pros play tennis I am usually psyched.
@polskagirl01 I hope all is going well with your strength and alternate training. perhaps Dec the energy will miraculously appear again and you will join us!
@shanaber I think we need some Hobbes porn. It's been a few pages...
Still grey and cold here in Tx but the good news is that it wasn't really actively raining on me today for my run altho I started to see drops toward the end. And by next week we will be back to 70 and sunny so patience is all it takes .... and layers!
I am up to 94.3 for the month out of 120 goal which I hope to exceed. 1368 for the year out of 1500 goal so on pace. I decided a few days ago to do 5 per day and then I got motivated and did 10K yesterday and 7 miles today. I think the cold weather must make my legs numb so I just keep going or something. 🤷♀️ I did see a great grey heron cruising in the sky yesterday but other than that it's been pretty quiet for animals with the weather in the 30's and rainy/drizzly.
I got a mani/pedi for the first time in about 5 months and was shocked to see that both my big toe nails had bruising on them. I remember quite well they both were very achy after my 8 mile run on 3 Nov but since I wear polish and the ache went away I never realized. I guess THAT pair of shoes (yeah - it was the shoes) is not suitable to longer runs. I have started putting gel polish on my toenails now and it seems to be helping with keeping them from getting vertical cracks like they like to do anymore.
3 -
@Teresa502 - well done on the 5K in the cold 🙌
@SummerSkier - you'll nail 1500 ! And hope your big toe[s?] heal soon1 -
Easy 6 mile recovery treadmill run this afternoon. Felt good.
3 -
41.60/70 mile goal
I had a little bit of extra time between church and lunch today, so decided to run two miles and walk one....on the treadmill. The run was a run/walk at 6.0/5.0/3.8 mph for 1.5/1.5/2 minutes. I haven't been running much lately, as you know, but I was surprised when trying for 6.0 mph for 3 minutes was too much. Oh well, not my current emphasis. The average pace for the run was 12:14 min/mile. Avg HR was 134 bpm with a max of 154 bpm.
Great job on your 5K on a cold Sunday morning @kgirlhart !
Nice 7 mile run @tarun_yadavA ! Hope you can figure out a schedule that allows you to watch the World Cup.
Great job on your Turkey Trot @Teresa502 ! Look how far you have come in 10 years!
Glad you are having some great runs @SummerSkier. You are doing great and am confident that you will make your goal for the year. I hope your toenails don't get worse and glad they aren't hurting.

It was 28°F when I got up this morning. We were going to my mother-in-law's for lunch, so I couldn't wait for it to warm up before I ran. I debated about what to wear. I always find it difficult to know what to wear when it is cold. DressMyRun.com said long tights, long sleeved shirt, a jacket and gloves. I almost always get too warm if I wear a jacket so I wore a t-shirt with 2 pairs of sleeves and long tights and gloves. It was about 36°F when I started out, but it didn't take long for me to realize that I was overdressed. It really makes a difference when the sun is shining. I ran to the cemetery and then to the park. I was about 2.5 miles into the run and decided that I was still close enough to home (about half a mile) so I ran back home and changed into shorts and a t-shirt. I was much more comfortable after that. I ended up with 9.35 miles. I was a little disappointed not to get 10 miles, but I figured that 15K was acceptable to my runner's ocd. Today was Hug a Runner day and the last day of the Hug a Runner challenge of at least 5K per day for 10 days. I ran at least 5K each day and further on some days so ended up with 16 5Ks.

@SummerSkier all the tests came back fine so in the end they said it was stress-induced gastritis. They put me on anti-acids first thing in the morning, which I should have weaned myself off by now but am still scared to stop taking, and a 'protective' diet and ordered me to get more sleep and avoid stress. Still waiting for useful advice on how to manage that!

Morning all... Mondays. Ugh.
Got my 9k in4 -
Happy Monday! At least it's a short work week for some of us in the U.S. My usual running partners are either off this week or off with injury but my hiking friend who ran the Turkey Trot with me on Saturday texted yesterday and said if I ran early any morning this week to let her know so she joined me this morning. It was 19F and we ran 5 miles total bringing my monthly mileage to 57.82. My pace was a little slower than normal but I was glad to have the company.
Congrats on completing your Hug a Runner challenge @kgirlhart!
