WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR JANUARY 2023

A new day, a new month, a new year---a host of clean slates to make a fresh start on a lingering plan. I have lots of good habits and behaviours in place and another that I'd like to make part of my life. This looks like a good time and place to make that change.
Growing and making these changes has worked best for me with the support and encouragement of others so I'm glad you are all here with me.
The name of the thread is "Women Ages 50+" but all women are welcome. We are a chatty bunch and welcome new input on the topics that are raised.
Be sure to bookmark the thread so you can find it again.
Please sign your post with a name or a nickname and a location, specific or general to make it easier for us to identify each other.
I choose a word for the year as a guide to help me grow. My word for 2022 was "continue" to remind me of all the good habits I've had in place and to urge me on when the going gets rough.
My word for 2023 will be "please" to remind me to be kind and do things that will please me and the others in my life, to remind me that politeness (saying "Please") will take me far in dealing with others, and to urge me make my environment as pleasing as possible (organizing and decluttering might fit in here).

45 minutes to midnight here.
Thank you Barbie for another year!
Just watched Mary Poppins. What a lot of longueurs!
Would like to go to bed, but will stay up for Big Ben. They always let off fireworks around here at midnight anyway.
Looking forward to a clean slate. Every day is a new day.
Edie has said she wants to come over as she is jealous of the other kids having one on one time with us. So she is coming tomorrow after lunch.

Looking forward to getting back on track with my walking, Zumba and tracking my eating.
Haven't done any of these things since my fall right before Thanksgiving.
Walking will be after this coming week when Ezie goes back to school.
Zumba will be first of Feb. I could go back a few weeks before that but want to give my body extra time to heal plus want to get the full month out of my fees. I may go back early, but will have to wait and see.
Need to reschedule the dentist appointments that I canceled(because I didn't want one the day before surgery) to fix the broken ones from my fall. Front two are still slightly tender but nothing like they were, thankfully.
Looking forward to some better sleep. Night before last was insomnia until about 3AM(and up at 6 for dr. appt.) then last night it was two asthma attacks. Slept on the couch because I didn't want to wake dh up with my coughing beings he had to be up at midnight to go to work and by that time, I was too tired and too comfy to go into the bed. Kind of getting used to sleeping in there now after two and a half weeks.
I am sure the neighbors will be setting off fireworks at midnight. Hoping that the storms will limit them to just a few at midnight and not for a few hours after and before.
Made pork chops in PF Changs sauce, chopped salad(from a kit), rice and fresh pineapple for dinner for MIL- DH will have that when he gets home. I think I will air fry a couple chicken sausage to go with the salad and pineapple for myself.
Happy New Years Ladies!

Barbie thank you for getting us off to a great stàrt!
I think my word for next year will be diligence. I need to apply myself with a firmer hand to make some progress. A few months back I was exercising six days a week and I'm down to about two. I need to kick it up a notch.

Barbie thank you for a new month.
Betsy, others have said what I would say. Very rude of the family members to try and bully you into doing something that they know you and your hubby were against.
Katla, hoping for the best possible outcome for your hubby.
Kelly, so sorry about Chappie.
Machka, your nose is healing very nicely! Loving the dry stream and having serious envy for your lovely garden! Hoping to get more done in mine this year.
Wishing you all, my dear MFP “sisters” a very happy and healthy 2023!
I will be starting the year off right by going for a walk with a friend. She is leaving for Mexico in a few days and will be there for two months. I will be hitting the gym at the Y very regularly. I have gained almost 20 pounds this year, it was a he11 of a shock when I realized that! Time to get my *kitten* in gear and get rid of it and some of its friends!
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Thank you Barbie!
After a day of gardening and a bicycle ride, we spent last evening chatting to our neighbours up the road, then eating pizza and watching Princess Bride. From there we switched to TransSiberian Orchestra music, and I headed to bed shortly after the new year arrived.
So far I've spent the new year doing some of my favourite activities: colouring, reading, listening to music, sleeping, and drinking coffee.

Night Night ladies.. Love you one and all!!6 -
🎉 Highlights of 2022 🎉
• I exercised 303 days of the year.
• We completed the longest bicycle ride since Rowan's accident and the fastest.
• I ran a 10K.
• I've had more sleep this year!
• Skin cancer spotted ... and dealt with.
• I found a new doctor and a great skin cancer surgeon.
• We've made progress on projects that have and will make garden care easier in the future and we've had the joy of seeing so many flowers and lots of fruit and veg.
• I've had 3 jobs this year! The tail end of one job, a 6-month term position and my new job. Big learning experience!! And these jobs have been an advancement upon the job I had at the beginning of the year.
• I had the opportunity to be on an interview panel for the very first time!
• We've started to build relationships and connections within the beekeeping community, and continue to do so within our cycling community and brain injury community.
• I have really enjoyed having about 3 weeks off work over this Christmas season. Granted, some of it was recovery from surgery, but it has been so nice to just rest.
• We've travelled to several areas in Tasmania.
• We were able to go to a couple plays in person.
• No university or other further education this year but lots of learning in new jobs, the garden and about bees.
• More reading for pleasure, rather than study.
• I've been reading the Bible every day.
And now to think ahead to 2023.

Thank you Barbie! I love the quote you started with. My word for 2023 is Progression. To keep moving in a direction that is better for my mental and physical health.
Went to a friends home for dinner tonight. Ate too much crap (but all the desserts looked wonderful) only had a couple of bites of each, but was way too much on top of regular white spaghetti noodles. Ugh....Was a lovely evening though.
Heading to man cave to watch a little TV with DH, but most likely won't make it to midnight here in Ohio.
Welcome Nene!
Prayers and hugs for ALL as we continue on our journeys with all the ups and downs.
Cheers to a safe, happy, and healthy New Year!

Happy New Year! May January 2023 become a wonderful new year for each if us. May this new year become an excellent year for each of us. ❤️6

Barbie, Thank you for the lifeline - another year of connecting with an amazing group of women who offer each other nurturing and empathy.
I procrastinated doing this quarter's continuing education, so spent today doing it. Good to get it behind me.
Very sleepy, will post more tomorrow .
Love,

Happy New Year everyone! Thank you for being such a great group!
We watched football all evening but by a hair GA came out on top!
My slogan for the year is to Accept Change with Grace! My main goal is to not get too tired! My second goal is to try and eat. I have lost my appetite and am living on protein bars and protein chips. I should try and eat a salad every day.
My third goal is to pray and have spiritual time. My 4th goal is to try and get out of the house at least once a week.
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia10 -
Worked then came home and started getting ready for tonight. I really don’t like waiting until the last minute. I cooked the noodles for the mac & cheese, washed the lettuce and tomatoes, breaded the pork, made the meringue and baked the pie. Lector at the church tonight and I’m hoping to leave early so I can get home to finish cooking. Also set the table
BK is open tomorrow. From 10 to something like 11. I honestly thought they’d be closed, but they’re not
kylia – I buy my honey from this guy down the street. You can see the bee hives in his backyard. Can’t get much more local than that!
I don’t know about any of you, but for NYE I just can’t decide if I should wear my red pajamas to the living room or my green one!
Barbara – do you have to take your recyclables to a recycling center? We’re fortunate, we can co-mingle, they recycle A LOT (even aluminum foil), but the bad thing is that they pick up recyclables only every other week. Well, on the weeks they don’t, I just don’t put out the garbage, we have so little. But I’ve had to borrow the neighbor’s recycling ours was so full!
Vince got Turbotax in the mail yesterday. That translates into “leave him alone when he’s working on taxes”
katla – oh no! What was the reason your hubby went to the hospital?
Carolhemma – welcome! My dh has the same medical issues you have !
KJ – so sorry about Chappie but glad you are there for them
M – happy new year to you!
Betsy – words escape me for what they’re doing to you! Is that what their religion is about? Bullying? Blackmail? I don’t think so. If it’ll help, let me know and I’ll ask Jess’ bf what his thoughts are. His family is very mormon, but he turned away when he was 13. I so agree with Lanette – “conditional” love isn’t love.
Well, I left church early. Usually Ken & Lynette come late. Like if I say “dinner is at 5”, they usually don’t get here until 5:10 or so. Well, I’d said “I have to lector, so let’s have dinner at 6”. I figured leaving church early, I’ll be able to get things done. And they came at 5:30. Thank goodness I had so much done ahead of time!
Usually, they leave around 10. Ken was talking to Vince and they stayed until shortly after the ball dropped. I don’t have a problem with them staying.
Happy New Years everyone! Jess called us right after 12. After Ken & Lynette left we called Denise and left a message (as usual)
Had pork chops. I was surprised at how little Lynette ate, ½ of one pork chop, some of the macaroni & cheese I made, and a little of the vegetable. I found out that she doesn’t like banana (wish she’d told me before, I wouldn’t have made a banana cream pie), didn’t have any cookies. I don’t know...I’m just a little sad that she ate so little. She didn’t eat any salad, said she doesn’t like salad (I could swear that she’s had it before). She said she’s “watching what she eats”. Really, I’m a bit tired of people saying that. Usually, nothing seems to come of it.
Debbie – CHICKEN SAUSAGE!!!! No, No, No….you MUST have pork on New Years, never ever fowl
Nene – welcome! Be sure to bookmark this site and come back often
Lanette – thanks for the first smile of the new year
Off to bed now.

Oh believe me, that has NEVER happened in our family. At least not to my knowledge unless someone snuck a bit of pork into something. I guess it's possible the salami on the pizza might have had a bit of pork.
I try to avoid pork as much as possible. Not even that keen on bacon.
I think you might have explained this in a previous year but it's not a tradition I'm familiar with.

Have another 45 min until midnight here but the neighbors have their Mariachi band going so I won't be getting to sleep until they are done.
Going to try sleeping in the bed tonight-first time in 2 1/2 weeks. I went in a bit ago and thankfully dh had put his c-pap on(it was off the other times I was in there). He went to sleep about 7:30.
Hopefully no asthma attacks tonight. Dh is off tomorrow and son is at his girlfriends house- hope to sleep in a bit tomorrow. Will have to wait and see.
Need to wake up my kitten so I can get my blankets and pillows and take all of into the bedroom.
Happy New Years3 -
Thanks Barbie
