I have never had anyone with me for appointments and can't imagine wanting anyone there. I would have to think about them! I do much better by myself and enjoy it.
My friend Ros, who died a few years ago, was the exact opposite. She always took someone with her to appointments and had a rota of friends sit with her during chemo. I was one of them and delighted to do it. It was a privilege. But I can't think of anything worse for myself.
We are all different!
I have noticed that the US is much more likely to have people with them than we are in the UK in general. I don't think we do as much sitting with the person in hospital as you do. Just visiting hours. My brother and I did keep a vigil for my mother's last hours, but it was only a few hours.

I go to appointments with my husband because he wouldn't remember much of what happened in the appointment.
But he rarely goes to appointments with me.
And prior to his accident, if I had a surgical procedure, I would take the bus and walk to the hospital, then later he'd pick me up.
When he was in hospital for 100 days, I was only there during visiting hours.
I think it might be a different cultural perspective. My experience in Canada and Australia is that we expect the doctor or hospital will take care of us.
As for growing old alone ... I have never imagined anything else. Both my husbands have been/are quite a bit older than me so I have imagined I'll be one of those little old ladies in a cottage with cats ...

prayers and hugs for all that need them.
Allie- being there for your grandkids and daughter is huge-
Heather- lots of great comments that hit a bit too close to home. Lots for me to think about. Thank you
Finally we have a break in the rain for a few days. Hoping to have a long walk at the wetlands tomorrow and, if I fell up to it after a two hour dentist appointment, I will walk Wed. It will be a shorter walk if I do Wed as Ezie gets out of school 40 min. early every Wed.
It will be great to get out walking again.
Cooked the 12.5 lb ham last night- it was so salty. Soaked some overnight in cold water in the fridge- dh tried some and it is better. Have the bag of sliced(it was a spiral ham but only half was sliced) in water now. The big chunk with the bone will be for the little white Navy beans- will not add any salt to that so should turn out good.

Debbie - Big hugs.
We have an invitation to see the apartment! Yeah! Saturday afternoon, followed by a walk and ice cream at Marroccos.
Bea tomorrow. We'll have to give her early dinner as my son is picking her up at 5.10 when he gets back from London. He said she loves having dinner at our house, so I will get to it as soon as we get in from school.
Then i will have to ask him the apartment 's address and how to enter!

Worked, then went to bowling, then my walk around the block. I need to go to the vet’s so I’ll probably use that as my walk tomorrow. The plan for tomorrow is to do a body pump DVD
Lisa – when I volunteer at the Green Room or at the soup kitchen, many is the time when I have to go to the bathroom or if I can’t go in they don’t have a problem. Well, it’s volunteer. But it does get me out of the house and with people. Just an idea
empeywl – Happy Birthday and welcome! Awesome weight loss and even more awesome that you kept it off. Come back so we can get to know you. You CAN do this, I know.
Sue WA – what a way to celebrate your birthday! Wish I was there.
Allie – Tracey will see the light one day, just as you did with Tom. Just continue what you are doing. God made floors for a reason (having Carmine over). Get an air mattress. Good luck tomorrow
Betsy – HUG
Many times (unless it’s routine) I like Vince to go to the MD with me mainly so that I have a second set of ears to hear what the doc said. Also, sometimes he’ll ask a question that I would have thought of but only later
barbie – good luck to Jake

Good Evening!
((HUGS))
I have heard the phrase, Make plans and watch God laugh.....well, someone was laughing today and it wasn't me-hehe! It took me 3 hours to finish sorting the Gravely blades and write a few labels. I felt like I was busy fighting fires all day. I never did get to my invoices, but I did put away the echo parts spring order, got it put in the computer, got the upc codes back into computer for the echo stuffs, equipment inventory checked for Echo, and got the Echo spring equipment order put in with the district manager. So it was productive, just not in the way I needed/wanted it to be.
16 What made you smile today-Getting a text from oldest grandson and a call from oldest granddaughter!
Ladies, I carry you all in my pocket all day long.
Hugs!
Love!
Thankful!

Hospitals We have two major hospitals in our area. One will only let people in during visiting hours. They lost my DH in a hallway twice! when he was there for his original eye injury. The other actually encourages a (just one) family member to stay with patient. It helps the nurses and gives the patient someone to speak and interpret for them. That is the hospital that we tend to go to most often. Thankfully it has been several years since DH has had to stay in hospital and 30+ years for me. When I was in, my now ex had to stay home with our girls and I kicked my mom and her "boyfriend" out. I was getting no rest with them there.3

Jake's procedure was successful. He now has a new generator in his pacemaker/defibrillator that should last ten years. The medical staff awesome. Jake wants me with him so I stayed until they took him to surgery. Then I put in my earbuds to listen to a podcast while I walked 10,000 steps before returning to the waiting room to read A few minutes later the nurse came to get me so I could drive him home.

Barbie—Sending good thoughts for Jake’s surgery. It looks like good news. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Allie— We bought an inflatable bed/mattress when we first moved here. It was my temporary bed for awhile and I slept well enough.
Something like it could be a treat for an overnight for a grandchild. After the overnight, it is easy enough to deflate to use another day. Just a thought. . . Michele made a similar suggestion. 😘2 -
Allie, hugs friend. You have so much on your plate, *hands you a platter* there ya go.🤗💖. You are amazing and care so much for so many. Carmine and Myles and Tracy are so lucky to have you.
Same goes for me ladies. Rebecca Gossett and my photo is of an old lady (me). I have my mommas photo up presently on Facebook until her birthday in heaven passes.💖. Feel free to send me a friends request.

Rebecca—I have considered you a friend since you were living near Astoria, OR, and I was living in HalloweenTown, AKA St Helens, OR. Sorry for the loss of your mother, but I think she’s proud of you and smiling from heaven. 💖3

10 What is your favorite lyric from a song- hard to pick just one, but from Marty Haugen’s Holden Evening Prayer “…stay with us for it is evening, and the day is almost over…”
US HWY 101 closed from Monday til Friday afternoon, between Gold Beach and Port Orford.

76 station ran out of regular the next day. Most of our stuff comes down 101 from Coos Bay. The alternate is 199 from Medford, pretty twisty and even more frequent slides than 101.
Been slackin’ in more ways than one, steps way low, CI way high, staying away from the thread too long. Will do a little skimmin’ today and see what tomorrow brings.
Pip belated best birthday wishes to Yogi. Smoooch that pooch!
Michele you probably already know this but I’ve found this stretch helpful: While standing, cross one foot over the other at the ankle, then lean forward until you feel a stretch. Breathe one two three four five, then stand up straight and uncross feet. Cross the other foot over and repeat.
Allie please double check about that PT. If Medicare doesn’t approve something, afraid Plan B supplement won’t pay either. BUT if your MD ordered the PT, then Medicare should approve and pay (after you meet Medicare’s plan B deductible) and your Plan B supplement insurance should kick in too. My share of PT ended up costing me about $300 for 3 months of twice a week sessions, but I’d already met my deductible. Good luck! Chronicles of Narnia was a favorite that I didn’t discover until I worked in a children’s library. Also loved George MacDonald’s Princess books.
Kylia great mammo news!

Sue - that’s a great birthday gift.
Heather - it was a long day of waiting. Kaitlyn and I have flights booked for Friday. One advantage of working in a nursing home is the experience of the nurses and they helped us decide it needs to be soon. I just hope Friday is soon enough.
Rodger handles all the grass mowing and usually the garbage as well. I do it on occasion. It’s whichever of us is going out the door that usually takes it. He usually takes the bin to the curb and back though.
Machka - I haven’t heard about Newhart for years and saw something on TV referring to it just recently.
Betsy - hugs to you.
Ginny - thank you for that. It means a lot.
Beth- thank you as well.
I chuckled at your mom wanting a toaster lol
Vicki - my husband is with his father this evening. A very short time as his father was given a sleeping aid and DH didn’t get in until 1045 pm.
The hospital is 3348 kms from our house. That is 2080 miles (thanks Google).
My daughter and I are flying out on Friday.
Machka - I wouldn’t count on the hospitals here anymore. Our healthcare system is in crisis. My FIL is in the situation he is in because they just kept sending him home with no tests being done. They now figure he has had the cancer for 4-5 months. He has been to the hospital by ambulance 4 times, had the ambulance at the house 10 times and been to his doctor after waiting weeks for an appointment once. All of this and not one blood test was completed until Thursday. Now he probably won’t be here in a week. It is infuriating and incredibly sad.
I’m off to bed. Been a very long day.
