WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR JANUARY 2023

Long week.
Somewhat stressful week.
Worked 5 days.
One of the things I did was to complete a version of an 80 page project plan and distribute it.
Most of my work colleagues have made positive comments. One has been very rude about it with yelling and crying and today (her day off) she was busy trying to convince a couple of my work colleagues that I had greatly upset another one with this horrible, awful, no good, very bad plan. Only that wasn't true. She's the only one upset by it.
Thing is, it's a plan. It's not etched in stone.
Ah well. I just smiled at all the ranting and raving.

Tracey, {{{HUGS}}} for you and your family.
Lisa, yay for the iron numbers!
Did take our granddaughter to the playground today, baked cookies for hubby and muffins for the grands. Wasn’t thinking when I went to the playground that after a few days of rain the equipment might be wet. As the temp dropped below freezing last night, and didn’t get much higher all day, there was also ice. Didn’t slow down our little Rosalie tho, lol. She had a blast even tho she got pretty wet, I ended up throwing her jacket and pants into the washer and dryer. Fortunately it was all washed and dried before we had to leave to get her brother. Nice sunny day today, but as it never got much above freezing it wasn’t much of an outside day. Tomorrow is supposed to be rain, but at least it’s not snow!!
Must go to bed soon, so hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the new gals! This is a great group of supportive, caring folks and we look forward to getting to know you!

1 Sit in silence for three minutes... it's harder than you think. Does silently working in the garden count? Done! I sat silently for 7 minutes and prayed.
2 List 5 things using each of your senses. Right now? I can see my Christmas decorations, I can hear Christmas songs, I can taste my coffee, I can smell my coffee, and I can feel a comfortable temperature in the room.
3 Let go of at least 5 items in your house. I'm not in a downsizing or reducing mode so I've taken some lunch things to work, I will take an item to be mailed and another to be given to the people at work.
4 What was your favorite Christmas gift? (this year or ever). I can't tell you what my favourite Christmas gift this year is yet. It's a secret.
5 Move for at least 30 minutes today. Absolutely. It's a very rare day that I don't.
6 Share a goal you achieved last year. We completed the longest bicycle ride since my husband's accident and the fastest.
7 Slow down and savor one meal today. Mmmm ... pizza!
8 Who was your favorite teacher. My father. But I've had quite a few good teachers, in addition to him, over the years.
9 Create something today. I finished creating my first work-related project plan today.
10 What is your favorite lyric from a song. Difficult one given that I like so much music. But let's go with: "A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices"
11 Send a card/note to someone today. Do emails count?
12 What are you looking forward to in 2023? Can't tell you that! It's a secret ... same secret as my favourite Christmas gift.
13 Tell a random person they look "good" today. It's a bit late in the day to read this and didn't meet too many random people today ... or people in general. But I smiled at some horses and told Rhody he's gorgeous.
14 Tell us three amazing things that happened recently (you decide what "recently" means...lol)
One is a secret ... I should be able to tell you by the end of the month.
My skin cancer surgery went better than expected and all my margins are clear.
I've been able to hold my granddaughter.
15 Call or text someone you haven't talked to in at least a week. Well, I did email a couple people yesterday.
16 What made you smile today. Do you mean like evil laughter?? Or a happy smile?
Happy would be big fresh strawberries from our plants and my colouring book. I'm colouring little rainbows right now.
17 Take a photo of something you're grateful for
Our garden
18 What material comforts are you most thankful for? You can make your list as long as you like...
House
Bed
Comfy PJs
My Chair
Food
19 Write a positive review for a company for goods or services you've received recently.
I have been going to my optometrist and optical shop for several years now. I went there again today and again I was very happy with with their service.
20 Write down five things you like about yourself
In no particular order ...
My hair
My eyes
My legs
My hands
My brain21 Pay it forward in some way
22 What do you most desire in your life right now?
23 Go an entire day without complaining
24 What about you makes you special?
25 Spend time with a loved one
26 When was the last time you felt pure joy?
27 Hold the door for a stranger... or a friend
28 What fear have you overcome?
29 Engage in a random act of kindness of your own choice
30 When was the last time you laughed so hard you almost peed?
31 Now try to "meditate" (sit in silence) for ten minutes...

Machka, I love your list of things to do. Are they from a book, or is it something you make up? It seems to me this could help me to think about something different than 11th-grade school work or work. I need to start making a list like that to remind myself that there is more to life than work and
This list is a creation of minicooper but I have posted other lists I've found.minicooper452 wrote: »My three minutes turned into five and then almost ten... it was so relaxing. I've used that so many times in the last several years in all sorts of meaninful ways! LOL Think I need to add this to my daily prayers every morning again.

I really, REALLY like this gratitude thing, so I grabbed a boatload of these lists and I tweaked it big time! So I'm going to keep it going... myself. One day you're doing, or NOT doing... like the 1st, the next day you're thinking/reflecting.

Oh Tracey-so sorry so much is hitting your family at one time.
Machka-work place drama is something I will not miss!
Annieyou are a positive spark!
Lisa-good news about iron levels. I am working on increasing Vitamin D. Mine is up to 38 (which may be fine for some). For some reason with my thyroid suppression they say we function better with it closer to 50. Looking at test results over the years (those would be my memory box!) higher does work better for me in terms of energy and muscle/joint pain.
Work from home this am-go to Columbus early afternoon for two series of bone density tests-Appendicular (radius, wrist, heel) and Axial (hip, pelvis, spine). This will be reset of baseline-locations in home town can do all locations-decided to get things reset in Columbus since I have plans to move on and you are supposed to use same facility. Then one more set of blood work in the next week or so (giving myself a break). All ct scans are stable from last time so that's a good thing.
Take care all,

I'm not used to this level of workplace drama ... or really much workplace drama at all. For the most part I've worked in very quiet places where people barely talk to each other! That suits me just fine.
Where I am now, everyone is nice and reasonably quiet, but there is one person ...
Being yelled at every other day is tiresome, but in some ways it's amusing because it's so absurd. Twice now she's yelled at me, "Why didn't you tell us you were going to make a mess of everything before you came here?"
Happily, she was very rude to me in front of a high level manager who didn't take too kindly to it. One hopes she might settle down.

I have started several embroidery kits over the years and have never finished. The kits always had the picture pre-printed on the fabric.
Are you drawing a picture on the fabric before you embroider it?
Do you have a piece of fabric that says 2023?
I am rather interested in this idea. I am not sure I could have as many pictures as the piece you are showing, but I would try and design something using the quadrant format.
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia
Rosemarie, I started out doing freehand; used a picture taped onto the cloth for an African elephant on the day of the talk about Zimbabwe, but pulling the little paper bits out of the work was a bit tedious, although the elephant looks like a pro did it. The current one (of a roll of old movie film), I sketched a little picture on the cloth with paper, and I think it will turn out better than those that I did freehand.
I think that one tiny embroidery per week (instead of per day) would make a lovely end product, and would be eye-pleasing. The doodles I am embroidering are about the size of a dime. With a weekly project instead of a daily doodle, you’d have more time and could make them bigger. It would be fun and lovely. I am using a dinner napkin for the cloth and it’s working well.

Mammy We too woke up to spring winds and sunshine yesterday. I am thankful for big windows that I can see out of at work. Then afternoon came with high cold winds, dark clouds, rain, and lots of downed power lines. Winter is back. We made it home safely even though we had to take the long way home.
I slept hard last night! Not long enough, but didnt wake up at all.

Irish Terri,
At JoAnn’s fabric where I went for supplies and advice, there were two types of cloth that me and the 2 ladies helping me thought would work - but they said muslin, sackcloth, or the dinner napkin I chose would all work. I like the dinner napkin because it is sturdy, has a tight weave, and is already finished on the edges. But I am a rank amateur, so...

Tracey, the same for you and your Roger. I always hoped for swift resolutions, too, for me as well as those I love.
Machka - I know, on the binary thing for Egg's messaging! Not sure why the laptop keyboard only registered those two... she's not light on her feet, she's a very thumpy little kitty.
Karen - I love the embroidery journal! I haven't embroidered for 30 years, and now I don't have the patience, and can no longer see well enough to be able to embroider at that level. However, it makes me wonder whether I could sketch out and create my own quilt journal for my quilts. If you've ever seen an album quilt, that's kind of what I've got in mind, but quite a bit less detailed. I've got images of almost every quilt I ever made, and I think I could probably make a miniature version of each as a large quilt square, perhaps with a margin for information, when, for who, etc. I'll have to scribble that down for my design book. I do not need another project (I have six in progress already) but there's always inspiration out there.
Posting this, but will probably drop in later.
Love y'all,

Oh my goodness, I would love to learn to quilt...and the idea of a quilt journal literally gives me goose bumps. If you do this, and post it to a quilter’s group, your idea will go viral.

Embroidery and cross stitch- It has been years since I have done embroidery. I love to cross stitch though. Some of those have been just counted with a pattern already designed, some are printed on the fabric, and some I have designed. It is very relaxing for me. I remember the first time I was doing one and I miscounted one color in some clouds. I was taking those stitches out when a friend said that was silly. No one is ever going to know that it doesn't exactly match the pattern! They were clouds. Never thought about that as the perfectionist in me wanted it just right. I left the remaining stitches in place and that one still hangs in our guest room from 38 years ago. My youngest granddaughter does cross stitch with no pattern! She looks at a picture and just starts stitching. She started this after I had bought the kids some simple ones as a Christmas project two years ago. She is now 13.
19 Write a positive review for a company for goods or services you've received recently- I did for the UPS driver that went above and beyond to deliver a package to me. He got his steps in that day!
20 Write down five things you like about yourself-
My eyes
My smile
My legs
My listening ability
My determination to get things completed (could be both good and bad 😉)
I had a hard time with this one after my eyes and smile. The others took some thinking.
In my determination to loose a few pounds and logging my food choices has led to another half pound loss this week! Yay!
Work place drama Machka It is definitely tiring! Working with family and prima donna men doesn't help. I just keep trying to accept some of the things that I cannot change. Not sure it is working, but trying. My DH asked me what and why I was changing some prices in the computer yesterday at work. I started to give a long explanation, then stopped, and just said I am making it simple for those that don't think or pay attention to things.;)
My refrigerator is looking a little bare! Clean, but bare! I think I will get off here and do a list to be picked up. I really don't feel like shopping, but there are only 2 slices of bread, 4 eggs, and butter right now. No milk, no produce, no oatmeal... you get the picture.
Prayers!
Hugs!
Remember YOU are WORTH it!

Changed mind on online shopping already. I really like the produce and eggs at another store that doesn't offer pick up. Reckon I will head there either tonight or in the early morning. Plans to go to Kentucky this weekend. Other than better eating choices which helps my weight, I probably would be okay for a few more days. Just nothing fresh.

Karen - I adore your embroidery project.
Tracey - Continuing to hold you all in my thoughts.
MammySher - So glad that you are enjoying the book, and it is resurrecting your own writing itch. The actions of your ex and teacher were just cruel, and can scar badly. My kids used to laugh at my art efforts and it put me off trying anything for many years. Now I'm happily dabbling with my paints.
Any writer knows how much we appreciate a positive comment. Thank you. If you get to the end and feel you can give a good review, please put one on Amazon. If you don't like the book, you needn't bother! I hope you will be inspired to pursue your own writing. Writing my memoirs entirely changed my life. I am so much more at peace now.
I had a chat with G this morning, about my ex's intervention the other day, which I'm still processing. It helps to talk to her. It felt like a revival of our old turmoil in our marriage. He said some strange things. I take responsibility for not having told him about 'Where Am I?'. But he has been pretty incommunicado for some years now, not replying to messages, or Christmas cards.
I grieved the ending of our marriage intensely for years. It was my decision in the end, but it was the hardest thing I have ever done. I think he interprets my not directly writing about him (out of respect) as meaning I didn't really love him. I did. I've taken on the responsibility in my books for things going wrong when there were two of us in the equation. In Memory Boxes I have included the poems I wrote about him, as they seem at one remove somehow.
Oh well. This too shall pass.
I comfort myself with the thought that I'm not the first writer this has happened to. Pretty much par for the course.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx6 -
Friday --
Work was very quiet today. Thankfully, the one person has opposite weekends to me off so I work with her at most 4 days a week. Got work done and a few more complimentary comments on my "book" (project plan). The rest of the people are polite and professional, as they should be in an office setting.
Bought some more beekeeping stuff related to the honey aspect of beekeeping.
Started to take the Christmas decorations down!

You know I order groceries online and will get some produce that way.
But we get a lot of our produce from our own garden or from the fresh fruit and veg market. We like going there, it's a nice atmosphere. Much better than a grocery store.
So yes, a combination works.

I haven't seen or spoken to or communicated with my ex in about 20 years ... longer than we were married. I don't imagine we'll ever get in touch with each other again. Never say never, because strange things can happen, but I'm quite comfortable if we don't cross paths and it would be quite a surprise if we did. Some things I like to leave in the past. It happened. There were a few good times. I probably wouldn't be where I am now if I had gone a different route. But this is where I am now and I'm a different person than I was back then.

Good morning all!😁
I adore embroidery and quilts! Used to do embroidery years ago. I’m considering picking it up again, along with crocheting. My Mom taught me how to embroider on pillowcases.
I used to teach calligraphy and illumination, and kept a journal of all my original art by making color copies of the originals and storing them in a three-ring binder.
20 Five things I like about myself
🔹my eyes
🔹my smile
🔹I’m creative
🔹I’m a good listener
🔹I am brutally honest with myself
Goals for today:
🔸Since I ate McDonalds yesterday and everything in my body from my joints to my liver is screaming at me in pain, I’m starting an anti-inflammatory reset. Light, easy to digest foods and whole food meal replacement smoothies.
🔸Take everything out of my pantry, reorganize, and dispose of processed foods.
🔸Put away my laundry
🔸Clean my bathroom
🔸Deliver my donations to the Salvation Army Thrift Store
Have a great Friday everyone!

Good morning ladies!
Thank you for the encouragement on my exercise comments. It helps me to be proud of myself.
Tracey, ooh I guess there's never a good time for Covid, but what a complication! Hope the spread is limited.
Machka, what a drama queen at your office! Screaming and crying at work are signs that her problems extend well beyond work. Good for you for responding calmly. Maybe you can tip the office atmosphere back towards professionalism.
Today I take my mom to the podiatrist. It took me six months of pressure to get her to agree to go. Yay!
Okay ladies. Have a great day, and make good choices! Imagine how healthy we will be this summer if we make good choices now!

I was the person that got yelled at nearly every day from clients when I worked in my previous career. It was the main reason I left and swore never to go back unless I will be living on the street otherwise. Though I might prefer to swallow my pride and move in with my mom before I'd go back to that. It sucks the life out of you to be in such an environment every day. Hopefully, it gets better for you!

Morning, afternoon and evening, all...
Allie - glad you're feeling better!
Tracey - Hope the covid doesn't keep you from seeing your mama, and so glad Rodger's BIL survived the stroke. That's a lot piling up on you, many hugs headed your way, darlin'.
Something I've been thinking about a lot of late is my negative tapes:I have an awful lot of negative tapes bout myself, about food, and about a lot of other things as well. Many of these tapes are oriented around "should" or "shouldn't" and they can make my life miserable.- I should have exercised.
- I shouldn't have eaten that.
- I should have eaten something healthy.
- I should have dealt with that.
None of this, not one syllable, is helpful or changes anything. It simply makes us feel bad. I know this because I've done it most of my life.
Part of the reason I'm here with you amazing ladies is to stop using my own negative tapes. Recognizing my tendency toward that kind of self-torture has been helpful. I'm more likely to stop and tell myself I can't change that past action, but I can act differently right now and eat something healthy. Even though it's freezing outside, I can go get on the elliptical to get the exercise I need. The list goes on.
I'm tired of beating myself up about past actions, and looking forward to action that helps me reach my goals.
Love y'all,
