The mobile groomer came yesterday afternoon and Bessie is clean, sweet smelling, and happy. It's a stressful time for her but not nearly as bad as driving to the last place that was noisy and crowded.
Tracey, glad you are home safely from that very stressful trip.

Machka— I love this message from you, “I wouldn’t want to trade him for any other man I have encountered or heard about.”. Congratulations! I feel the same way about my DH. ❤️5

About husbands. One day I heard that my friend's husband detailed her car regularly for her and I was so envious until I realized that her husband had so many qualities that were unpleasant and mine was perfect in so many ways that I wouldn't trade him for anyone. If I want my car detailed, I can hire someone8

Good morning ladies!
Rain here. I'm feeling lazy already.
Annie in Delaware3 -
Good morning all!
It is rainy and gray here in New York today but we are going to reach a high of 50 degrees! Crazy to think this is winter for us.
Just wanted to stop in and say hi. I am new to the community although I have used MFP on and off through the years. Hoping I will stick with it this time and hoping to form a sense of community through these boards.
I work from home and find myself sitting a lot. I am trying to incorporate movement in my days by going to the gym, walking the dog, and running up and down the stairs to do laundry.
Carrie from Rochester7 -
Carol - Most days I do nothing much at all! I consider my life very calm. Yesterday was a rare exception. I actually hate being busy.
My priorities are 1. Exercise 2, Writing (something) 3.Grandchildren.
Exercise I try to do no matter what. Writing could be finishing a poem, like this morning, or writing an email for publicity, and grandchildren.... as it comes.
Otherwise I spend a lot of time alone, recharging, or napping.
I did manage to paint a Valentines Day card for DH. I made a design mistake, but it's OK. Relieved I rescued it.
Now I'm having a cup of tea, before a 20 minute row and then a lovely nap. Bliss.
I will have to hang up some laundry at some point. I find these days I often forget, because the washing machine switches itself off and doesn't sound an alarm like the old one.
Tracey - Glad you are back safely. Wishing you good recharging and recovery time. It will take a while.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx3 -
I peeked into DH’s room this morning & found him sleeping. I stopped by the nurse’s station & found good news. He went to breakfast this morning and is doing okay. I am pleased. 😊6

Feb 9 Identify a role model who embodies perseverance and two ways to emulate them.
Pastors wife: 1=show up, 2=smile.
Joe has ultra sound and cat? CT? scan this morning for deviated septum, also low dose CT scan of lungs as former smoker. He’s seems to be positive about the tests, looking forward to treatment to ease his breathing and dry mouth issues. I’m not doing so well concealing my worry.
At the movies I was true to myself, had a buttered popcorn AND a small root beer. Still managed to keep CI below CO, get 59 g protein and 15 veggies, thanks to Spicy v8. Today will get some healthier protein and veggies in a Caesar salad to have with zoom happy hour with C.
Welcome @carrieneary71 Carrie from Rochester!
Annie yes those all count, as do the less than aerobic strolling with Teddy
Heather thanks for my vocabulary word of the day: “murmuration.” Think you’ve used it before, but this time I looked it up. ;} Envy all your Hove opportunities, Brava for taking advantage of them.
Rebecca blood glucose @ 450? Yikes! Could your Chief have accidentally not fasted?
Katla your tummy has been bothering you more often lately. Do you think it’s a bug or something in the food or???
Tracey glad you’re both home safe, wish you had more time to rest and re-acclimate before having to return to work.
Kylia you inspire me to start on our taxes, soon as I do the board meeting minutes… Sending good thoughts for tomorrow’s heart Dr. appointment.
Machka yours to Rosemarie about all foods being processed. Truth that. Believe the concern is for “ultra” processed, but not sure how that’s defined. I’d agree that veggie/fake meat and dairy products qualify as ultra processed, just as canned foods and most frozen meals, due to their salt and preservatives. When we’re told to eat mostly plants I think the Drs mean whole, leafy greens, brassicas, curcibits, fruits, nightshades, nuts, legumes, tubers, even whole grains, not so much soy/corn/grain/nuts masquerading as meat and cheese. I feel the same way about cauliflower "bread/rice/pizza crust." But that takes planning, time and work When is a database not relational? When there are no links between tables? Or???
Machka, Katla, and especially Barbie’s “…if I want my car detailed, I can hire someone” Ditto. Despite the occasional frustration I am so grateful for Joe, his attitude, his protection, his care. No trade-ins here!

Barbara—I am in a situation where I am not able to cook for myself. I wish I was in my own home. That is not possible for now. DH is in a facility that is helping him get healthier. I have the good luck of being nearby him. I miss Oregon and my friends there—good neighbors, long time teaching friends, connections with yoga friends & horse friends. Bottom line, I’m homesick.

Word of the year: APPRECIATE; today I appreciate not being homeless.#2 Practice fairness today by putting yourself in someone else’s shoes: I did this with a camper who I received complaints about. I put myself in his shoes when speaking with him. He was a very lonely man who only had his dogs (one barking, one loose) and the people he meets at campgrounds. Made me more compassionate when talking to him about the dogs.#7 Consider a current struggle. Write down 2 thoughts that give you comfort. My dog Brownie’s heart trouble. Her spells are getting worse and there is nothing the vet can do. Comforting thoughts—She lived a good life with us. She brought us many days of comfort and enjoyment with her loving attitude.
#3 Watch a movie that reminds you of kindness. I watched the Adam Project.
#4 Take a picture of 3 things that make you happy. Send them to a friend. Done!
#5 Be kind to yourself. Self-compassion is equally important. Will do today.
#6 Start a conversation with someone new. I do this every day with the campers!
#8. Consider and celebrate diversity today. I am a white girl living among darker Mexicans and native Americans. Campers come from around the world and love to hear the accents and learn about the different cultures i come into contact with. Do this every day!
#9. Identify a role model who embodies perseverance. Can you find two ways to emulate them? My 30 year old autistic nephew. He never gives up no matter what health challenge he faces. I can emulate him by not complaining about every little ache and pain, and by doing what needs to be done to get through any health issues that may come up.#10. Check an item off your to-do list this weekend.
#11. Make twice as much for dinner and either invite guests or deliver the meal to a friend.
#12. Make a list for the week ahead so you stay focused.
#13. Consider a recent disagreement. Did you extend forgiveness?
#14. Express creativity by making art or cooking a new meal.
#15. If you are waiting in line today, let someone get in front of you.
#16. The next time someone does something you appreciate, be sure to let them know.
#17. Offer a helping hand to someone, such as holding a door for a stranger.
#18. Share about a recent book you read and what you learned.
#19. Show sincere appreciation when someone serves you food or drink.
#20. Complement someone today. Ideas include recognizing a great smile or earrings.
#21. When you recognize someone is struggling, offer words of support.
#22. Ask for help. That’s a simple way to express bravery.
#23. Encourage your teammates to utilize their unique strengths.
#24. Reflect on the steps you have taken to achieve your past goals.
#25. Express gratitude today by thanking someone.
#26. Think about the upcoming work week. How can you apply teamwork?
#27. Send or leave a handwritten thank you note to someone.
#28. Giving constructive feedback is one way to ignite honesty.

My priorities:
*healthy eating that's simple to prepare
*exercise
*spending time with my husband
*essential housework
*spiritual practices and reflection
I've heard from so many professionals that having a morning routine is a healthy way to start the day. I get up at the same time, dress and walk Bessie, eat the same breakfast while reading something from my spiritual practice and reading this thread, walking with Bessie and my friend and walking alone for close to two hours, spending time with Jake, showering and dressing for the day. That covers almost all the priorities I have listed above. I fit in the housework during the day mixed in with spending time with hubby, exercising, and connecting with a spiritual group I meet with online. We eat lunch and supper at the same time every day and go to bed at the same time. I am fortunate that I am retired but when I was working, I had a morning routine that got my day off to good start.

Hmm. Little Teddy just came in from outside and ran upstairs to hide in my bedroom. I called him downstairs and he came, but he was trembling at first. This is not like him. I wonder if he hurt himself outside, but I can't find anything.
He has been barking a lot the last few days, making me wonder if he is anxious. He just started a new Flea/tick/heartworm medicine on Sunday. Has anyone tried Simparica Trio? So far I am more suspicious than impressed. He hasn't finished a couple meals lately.
Hmmm. Poor baby.

Got my haircut yesterday at the beauty school locally. Only $7 but it helps the students learn. The one I had needs a lot more practice. I helped her shape around my face and showed her how to make it even, and showed her a different way to dry hair to give it some lift. Both I learned from hair dressers I went to in the past. She was grateful and her instructor liked what she/me did. LOL I hadn’t had my hair cut for a year and wanted a ‘long shag’ because of the curls in my hair. It sorta came out right but I now have ‘feathers’ here and there. Oh, well. I helped someone learn something new. I’m happy with that, and hair grows back!
On Husbands, my therapist told me that the spouses we pick somehow reflect our father or mother figures as children. Mine is a lot like my father. Actually, both my first and this one were somewhat like him in a lot of ways.
I have most of our taxes done. Just need to verify last year’s income then I can send it in. No reason I haven’t finished it, other than procrastination,
Tomorrow morning DH and I both get blood drawn for quarterly check up. Yearly physicals and blood work review next week.
Time to go walking, get my yoga in and arm weights done. I’m going to up my arm weights from 2 lbs. to 3. I’ve also been putting that off lately. But, DH has been hanging around at home with yucky weather so not much room in RV to exercise. I won’t do it outside, embarrassed for anyone to see me.

So...
Overall the cardiologist really isn't overly concerned. She said my bp looks good, recovers quickly when high. Pulses all seem to be okay. A little leery of LDL, but holding any decisions on that until a few other tests are done. I explained that my total cholesterol was 213 from 30 until about 45. Then it crept up. I range between 230-250. She was more than pleased with my hdl. Seems to think LDL may be hereditary. Anyway, I will have a stress test and an echo done. If necessary a newer cat scan thing to check for potential blockages. I go back to see her in 4-6 weeks just to follow up. I did tell her that I was only doing any of this to give my DH some peace of mind. I dont think anything is wrong. She did say not to start any intense exercise routines until after tests‐lol!
Anyway, just keeping you in the loop.
❤

Tracey - Welcome home. I bet it was wonderful to sleep in your own bed. Trips like that keep me wired for a while, but getting back into the normal everyday pattern really seems to help.
Barbie - I like your priority list. It's working great for you and keeping you healthy and well-rounded. That's what it's all about!
Rosemarie - I've decided if I concentrate on eating more healthy foods - fruits and veggies, and cut out junk food like donuts, candy, chips, etc., I'll stay way ahead of the game and a WW or similar frozen meal or fast food burger will be fine from time to time. I will say I was surprised when I read the ingredients on my favorite Litehouse salad dressing. I make a very tasty vinaigrette salad dressing with olive oil, vinegar, a little lemon juice, and maple syrup. that I know is much healthier. I was just too lazy to make it before. Now I make that all the time and avoid mystery stuff, and like it better.
Ultra Processed foods and my DH's health: I've posted this before, feel free to skip.During the last year of my DH's life, it seemed all he wanted to eat was what I consider Ultra - processed or high sugar food. Every day a hot dog for lunch on a Safeway white bun. Most days for supper, it would be Tyson's chicken strips and Ore Ida french fries. Three or four Pepsi's a day. Two big spoonfuls of sugar in his coffee. Fruit? Veg? Milk? No, it was a daily struggle to get over 1200 calories and 30 gm of protein in him, and he was wasting away. I said to heck with it and would stop at McDonalds's for a quarter pounder, encouraging him to eat the whole thing.
His doc thought for sure he had cancer since he was losing weight at about a pound a week, he was nearly skeletal. He should have been getting at least three times the protein he was taking in to maintain muscle mass.
He finally died of not cancer, but organ failure, sepsis, accompanied by dementia - who knows, that could have been caused by lack of nutrition as well. He was also very depressed. Again, nutritional deficit? Perhaps.
I'm no doctor or nutritionist, but I think if he'd have eaten fresh fruit and vegetables and ample protein, he could have still had his hot dog for lunch and occasional McD's and maintained his health for longer.
So, if I have the choice to eat processed and junk food OR more fruits and veggies, things I can take the time to cook at home, I feel it's better for me to choose the latter.
I'm in the mood to get some chickens. Maybe 3. So I've put on my thinking cap and am looking at possibilities for utilizing sheds and structures I already have or getting/building something new. DH has some nice wood in the shop and fencing. In the past our hens always had the run of the barnyard and were locked up securely at night. Lots to figure out.
Make it a fabulous day, ladies!

Rebecca--Sorry to hear DH blood sugar was so high. It could be caused by carbs, or stress, or an infection. I know when mine is up I have to go over a list of things to see if I can figure out why. It seems they should of scheduled the phone appointment sooner.
Katla--Hope you are feeling better. There is a lot of crud going around, but it is that time of year I guess.
Tracey--Good to hear you are home. You have had a lot to deal with this last couple weeks. Hope you both can relax and regroup.
Add me to the group that have a great man. It has not always been that way. But we both have grown and realized what is important. We are in a good place now. Thank the Good Lord.
I also like to get home a day or two before having to return to work. Gives me time to catch up and get my mind set to return to work.
We are invited to a couple from church house tonight for supper. I always get myself worked up and then end up most the time enjoying myself. I just feel really off the last couple days. I know my eating is all over the place and way to much. Need to get a handle on this again.

We have always used Revolution for our cat. The last time I went in to pick some up, the receptionist suggested Revolt, which is the same main ingredient but half the price. We have noticed that our cat loses his appetite for a couple of days after treatment and tends to not be his usual playful self. I don't know if it's the Revolt or the fact that he passed the 6 lb mark so now gets the bigger dosage and he is at the bottom range of the weights for it. I'm going to mention it to the vet when I go back to buy more. I am not familiar with Simparica Trio, but it's possible that it has the same anorexic effect on your dog. I was ready to go back to paying the higher price for Revolution until I googled and learned that loss of appetite is a side effect of both.1 -

Hi Annie.
Our vet gave our dog Hobe the Simparica Trio and he was very hyper for days afterwards. He kept whining and barking and didn't want to eat or go outside. He even snapped and growled at my husband, which he never does.
Long story short, the vet said it's not common but does happen and will give him something else next time.
You might want to call your vet and let them know how your little one is acting. He might not be able to take that medication.

Barbara Yay for CI<CO !
I rode Henry today, and we did weaving poles at a trot for the first time together. He was great fun, he understands the pattern so I hardly have to guide him at all. It's awesome when the communication is good.
I'm keeping a close eye on Teddy. I went out in the yard with him and didn't see anything unusual.
I have to think of a way to serve leftover thick pork chops to my parents that is easy to chew. Maybe if I just slice them really thin. Hmm. Off to consult Chef Google.
