Machka-I love the bee photos! I am fascinated with bees. Insects generally, but bees and ants are really amazing.
Hugs to those in need!
Tina in CA where we are about to blow away in the wind.
Thank you, I think the bees are fascinating too.It will be a while before our son & daughter are able to pack things in our Oregon home and bring them here. Meanwhile the home is safe. The couple who want to buy it are watching it until the title can be transferred. I hope all goes well. ⭐️ ❤️ ⭐️
That's good ... I'm glad people are taking care of you.Today I took a friend to our closest mineral hot springs and vapor caves. We had a very relaxing time, followed by a delicious pizza on the best cauliflower crust I've ever found.

That sounds wonderful! I've enjoyed hot springs in Canada several times.

Good morning all:
Didn't sleep overly well last night, got up at 4. Cold feeling a bit worse than yesterday. Took Covid test to make sure it is clear before going into office-it's positive. So-no office for me! Will call my doctor this morning to see if he recommends any treatment. Meanwhile I will work from home as I feel like it and rest in between. Gets me out of a community business dinner tomorrow night that I really didn't want to attend
Oh well, I said from the start I wanted to avoid it until it mutated down and they had treatments. Since I have had all vaccines hopefully won't be too bad-I am pretty achy this morning.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio
Sorry!
Just read an article today where they're predicting another surge of COVID this coming winter.
And I saw that Vax Number 5 is coming available.
Touching my Toes - Even at 6 years old, when we were supposed to touch our toes in gym class, I was able to reach about mid-shin.
"It turns out that the ability to touch your toes is the summation of a number of different physiological factors, many of which we have no control over. “The two biggest factors are the flexibility of your hamstrings and and the range of motion of your hip joints,” says Jeffrey Jenkins, a physiologist at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. “But the other big factor is the relative length of your arms and your torso to your legs.”"
https://www.popsci.com/why-cant-i-touch-my-toes/
I always thought it was because my hamstrings were too tight, and they are a little bit tight, but according to my most recent physiotherapist they aren't overly tight.
However, my most recent physiotherapist informed me, my hips have limited range of motion.
I saw my most recent physiotherapist for my numb leg issue a few months ago, and he was checking the range of motion of my legs, hips and back ... and asked me what was stopping me from moving my leg further and I said, "It simply doesn't GO further!!" Turns out that's just the way my hips are built.
Fibre -
https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health/healthyliving/fibre-in-food
https://www.med.umich.edu/mott/pdf/mott-fiber-chart.pdf
The recommended daily fibre intake is:
men = 30g of fibre each day
women = 25g of fibre each day.
1 cup frozen mixed vegetables - 8.6 grams. I eat 2-3 cups of veggies a day which is 17.2 to 25.8 grams
Add a piece of fruit, rice, some pasta, and a couple crackers and I'm in the range.dlfk202000 wrote: »Dh had a major, really major fit last night. ... He was cussing and throwing stuff. I hope he didn't throw anything at you!

I can't imagine that many hot flashes. I only had them for a few months and it was during the winter so wasn't too bad. Did dress in layers and was funny walking around in a tank top for the few minutes but then had to put sweatshirt back on after that.
I woke up with a really strange headache today. I was super hot too. It felt like my BP was really high. I checked it and it was fine, but I really felt like I was going to pass out a couple of times. I had to cut my workout a bit short. I'm not sure what that was about. I still don't feel great, but I'm better.
Tina in CA where we are about to blow away in the wind.
Headache, feeling hot, dizzy, nauseated etc.?
That's describes a hot flash for me. I have 5 to 10 of those a day ... down now from 20+ each day thank goodness.
What kind of Headache?
M in Oz
It was kind of dull all across my forehead. I suspect it had something to do with the weather. A storm came in yesterday and winds are screaming through. Probably was messing with my allergies and asthma.
I haven't had hot flashes for nearly a year, thankfully. I'd really hate for them to start up again though.
Tina in CA
I started having hot flashes about 11 or 12 years ago. It started gradually, with going through weird symptoms on the couple days before my periods started. The weird symptoms included being nauseated and so dizzy I could hardly walk.
After a couple years of that, the dizziness eased up, thank goodness.
But I started having the hot flashes I still have.
1. I start feeling like I'm coming down with the flu - nauseated, achy and generally unwell.
2. My skin goes all prickly. It feels like a combination of a bad sunburn and the pins and needles you get if you sit with your leg curled up under you. It runs from the back of my head all over my torso and arms.
3. And then I heat up!! But at least the nausea is gone by this point.
It wasn't too bad for a while ... maybe a half-dozen a day.
Then my husband had his accident, and my hot flashes shot up to about every 15 minutes. Stress, I'm sure.
After a couple months, I couldn't handle it and went on Effexor which brought the number down to about once an hour.
Now I'm down to about 5-10 hot flashes a day.

Headaches ... I have had a wicked one like the front left quarter of my head is being hammered. It's been there since late January.
New glasses helped a bit.
Pretty sure it's stress.
Funny thing is that I was working on a work project all evening yesterday and about midnight I decided to go to bed "because I was getting a headache" ... meaning that other parts of my head were starting to hurt as well as the usual part!
M in OzMachka that is too long for the same headache to linger. What does your new pcp say?
Barbara
I've had headaches most of my life. I just assumed that everyone did. Then one day, I made some comment somewhere about headaches, and people told me that they went significant periods of time without a headache. I could hardly believe it.
Most of mine are low-level headaches that can be tolerated. Like right now, mine has eased off to what I would call mild pain in the left front quarter of my head, especially my forehead.
When I complain about a headache, it has reached the point where it is barely tolerable.
I read that using painkillers frequently can cause rebound headaches, so from time to time I go off them for a while. With the exception of my skin cancer surgeries, in the last several months I have rarely used painkillers.
So it has to get pretty bad before I'll break out the Panadol. I used a couple last night.
I was diagnosed with migraines in my early 20s, but the medication for that was worse than the migraines.
I don't know if my headaches are migraines or not, but I've opted for other techniques to ease them ... making sure I am well hydrated, stretching my neck and shoulders, closing my eyes with the heels of my hands pressing over my eyes, breathing techniques, making sure my glasses are up to date, changing the colour/light on my computer, etc.

Morning all-I have skimmed through but don't know how much I am retaining.
Welcome to new people and returnees
Kylia-prayers for Aubrey. It is so sad when young children have to go through so much. Hope prep for testing went well. At least it isn't as bad as it used to be (which means it still isn't pleasant.)
Lisa-Perhaps Corey is right and your testing in July may give your system a reset. The two of you seem to balance each other out well.
Karen-you are right about increased exposure being possible in senior communities. I know a lot of our nursing homes are currently seeing and increase. Just seems to be a cycle.
Doctor ordered paxlovid for me yesterday (one of the antivirals that is supposed to help keep you out of hospital). I was able to drive to drug store in late morning and pick it up at drive through. Then went through drive through to get some lunch. Came home, ate, worked on a couple of emails for work I needed to get out. After an hour, I was done! I was talking to staff member and told her I felt like my face was falling off! Spent rest of day on couch binge watching season 2 of Bridgerton.
I was able to sleep fairly well last night-body aches subsided. Today I notice dizziness at times when waking. Going to try to do one letter for work but need to rest up-breakfast took it out of me! I must say-Covid is a bit interesting. Staff member (who has had Covid early on and has had all vaccines) also tested positive yesterday (her husband tested over the weekend). She has different, and I would say more severe symptoms. She is going to doctor later this am.
Enough whining on my part! Have a good day all.

Good morning, all!
Fiber, I do track mine with MFP. I always exceed my MDR. I should probably say almost always, but I do a pretty good job of adding fiber.
touching toes I can touch my toes, but I need to bounce a little to be able to do it. I could not do it when I was younger. So, I call that progress.
sleep I have not been sleeping well. Last night I ached all over. Even after taking Aleve, I could not get comfortable. Dave has been complaining for a while that he thought our mattresses were shot, so we are going mattress shopping this morning.
This is going to be the year that we work on our lawn. I just signed us up with a service that treats the lawn with preemergent, fertilizer, etc. about every 6 weeks throughout the year. We shall see if we like it. We are also going to work on filling up the chipmunk holes. Hopefully, if we get the holes plugged, having a cat now will keep them further away from the house. They can build all the tunnels they want in the woods!3 -

Ash Wednesday's services were cancelled here because of our storm. Shoveled/snow blower morning and afternoon. DH used a snowblower at about 9 last night. Still have 7 inches to clean up this morning. At least 15 inches total. I was here for our 36 inch total we got in the 90's with no snow blower so this is much more manageable. I think of you Beth and the 50 inches you had to contend with earlier this winter.
I am pausing In The Body Block Course until snow clean up is complete.
I learned I have to be more diligent with DrewB's paws after a walk. Many are using salt to make sidewalks safe for walks. The salt did upset here digestive track. Even the use of safe paws is not totally safe for dogs or the environment.2 -
Touching Toes ... My arms are disproportionately longer than my torso, but I also have very long legs. Still, I can not only touch my toes, but stand on my hands. Think of a monkey dragging his arms! My family has had a good time making fun of me over the years.
Fiber ... I go in cycles of doing really well with fiber intake and then eating nothing but carbs and fat ...
Ginny ... I found Paxlovid to be worse than my covid symptoms ... blech! My husband had significant digestive issues from Paxlovid; I just had a horrible taste in my mouth for 5 days.
We had a significant layering of ice last night. Took 45 minutes with the car running before my son could get his doors open. Thankful for remote vehicle starters! I was planning on visiting with my mom today but will put that off until tomorrow. Too messy out there and too much ice on the driveway!

I recommend a book called "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" by Lundy Bancroft or the same title by Theresa Covert. It helps you tell the difference between fixable problems vs time to leave. Sometimes it helps to have an expert opinion back you up.
I left when my ex started yelling at me. He was furious when I stopped for groceries without telling him where I was. I was afraid he would escalate, partly due to his family history.
Good luck to you. It's a hard road either way.

My mom could flat hand her hands on the floor ,and me im lucky if I can get to my shins ..
Since my dear friends have cooked and had me over so much and I haven't done anything.. I have signed the 4 of us up for a Sunday Brunch cruise on Lake George... it is a day trip a bus takes us up and back.. and its July 30th.. so I think it will be fun..6 -
LisaInArkansas wrote: »Debbie - I keep a pair of kid's football gloves to use when I'm lifting dumbbells. They're just like regular gloves, but have non-slip grip surfaces. My hands are always so dry that my grip is not good on anything like that, and the gloves work for the elliptical and the rower as well. Keeps from clenching my hands so hard just to keep hold of the grips and keeps me working on my form. Much more secure, much less likely to drop weights.
Debbie - Sorry, that was meant for Annie! No excuse, just sleepy... As others have said, I really hate it that your DH is yelling and throwing things. It's a horrible way for you to live, no matter how many excuses you give him. He needs to act like an adult, not a child whose toy has been broken, but you genuinely need to be careful. He's apparently got no outlets for his anger but you now, and that is dangerous, Allie was spot on. Be safe, dear heart.
Ginny wrote:Lisa-Perhaps Corey is right and your testing in July may give your system a reset. The two of you seem to balance each other out well.
We do balance, and in all honesty, he's the only man I've known who truly sees me for who I am, and not only listens to me, but actually hears me and remembers. I told him quite early on, while we were still dating, that I never liked getting cut flowers, because it was like someone saying, "Happy Valentine's Day, I killed these plants for you." We were watching the Tinder Swindler on Netflix last night, and I said, "How come you've never given me flowers?" He quoted my statement back to me. Mixed blessing sometimes , but knowing he loves me as well as understanding me is a priceless gift. It does, however, also mean that I don't get away with ANYthing. My lowest weight was 155.7, but of course I got lazy, also let my pain get the best of me, and am now 166.2. I’m fighting the neuropathy that I inherited from Covid and the vaccine. So, to make a long story short I’m rehabbing from being paralyzed. I have enjoyed reading the group posts. They gave me a feeling of belonging. Hope it is okay to join in with you ladies. Belinda, BFE, Nevada
Hello, Belinda, and welcome! You do belong here. There are women here from 50 to well over 70, all focused on our journey to better lives and supporting each other. Your progression weight-wise is wonderful, hope the neuropathy is loosening its grip on you! Glad you're here.
Heather - Love the fact that you're enjoying creating your art pieces so much. I'm hung up for now, not happy with the media I'm working in, whether watercolor or oil pastels or pencils... May have to drag my acrylics back out...
It's 34 degrees here, about 15 degrees lower than the forecast, but slung my big coat on and went down and propped the gate open. Supposedly getting our bathtub and tub surround delivered today. As soon as they're here, I can call the plumbing contractor. His team will remove the old one and get the new one put in and plumbed for us. Supposedly in half a day. We'll see...
I've always been able to put my hands flat on the floor, and even touch one step below the one I was standing on. Don't do THAT anymore, because my balance is shot, and I'd end up *kitten* over teakettle. Basically, long arms, short legs. My mother could do the same thing at 70 years old, and I'm built just like her.
Our weather is supposed to be chilly, but none of the snow and ice that the north is getting. Sunny and cold is more than fine with me...
Later y'all,
Love,
Lisa

Word of the year: APPRECIATE; today I appreciate my new mattress topper.#2 Practice fairness today by putting yourself in someone else’s shoes: I did this with a camper who I received complaints about. I put myself in his shoes when speaking with him. He was a very lonely man who only had his dogs (one barking, one loose) and the people he meets at campgrounds. Made me more compassionate when talking to him about the dogs.#22. Ask for help. That’s a simple way to express bravery. Sometime today.
#3 Watch a movie that reminds you of kindness. I watched the Adam Project.
#4 Take a picture of 3 things that make you happy. Send them to a friend. Done!
#5 Be kind to yourself. Self-compassion is equally important. Will do today.
#6 Start a conversation with someone new. I do this every day with the campers!
#7 Consider a current struggle. Write down 2 thoughts that give you comfort. My dog Brownie’s heart trouble. Her spells are getting worse and there is nothing the vet can do. Comforting thoughts—She lived a good life with us. She brought us many days of comfort and enjoyment with her loving attitude.
#8. Consider and celebrate diversity today. I am a white girl living among darker Mexicans and native Americans. Campers come from around the world and love to hear the accents and learn about the different cultures i come into contact with. Do this every day!
#9. Identify a role model who embodies perseverance. Can you find two ways to emulate them? My 30 year old autistic nephew. He never gives up no matter what health challenge he faces. I can emulate him by not complaining about every little ache and pain, and by doing what needs to be done to get through any health issues that may come up.
#10. Check an item off your to-do list this weekend. Working on my taxes.
#11. Make twice as much for dinner and either invite guests or deliver the meal to a friend. We give food to people all the time. My DH cooks and we give food to different campers and workers here at the park almost every day!
#12. Make a list for the week ahead so you stay focused. Done
#13. Consider a recent disagreement. Did you extend forgiveness? After I bough myself a Sonic blast to ‘cool down’.
#14. Express creativity by making art or cooking a new meal. I write in a journal that has writing prompts I have to make up stories for. Yesterday I wrote a short story about a dog leash!
#15. If you are waiting in line today, let someone get in front of you. May not be today, but i did do it on Sunday!
#16. The next time someone does something you appreciate, be sure to let them know. Will do! Didn’t have the opportunity but will watch for a chance today!
17. Offer a helping hand to someone, such as holding a door for a stranger. I may have a chance today.
#18. Share about a recent book you read and what you learned. I just finished reading ‘Everything You Are’ by Kerry Anne King. It dealt with alcoholism, recovery, death, and grieving. I learned that no matter where you are in life, never give up and find a way to celebrate life.
#19. Show sincere appreciation when someone serves you food or drink. Did this today. DH made me pancakes and served me coffee this morning.
#20. Complement someone today. Ideas include recognizing a great smile or earrings. Did this to a lady who looked angry and tired at Walmart today. Made her happy and smile.
#21. When you recognize someone is struggling, offer words of support. I did that yesterday!
#23. Encourage your teammates to utilize their unique strengths. Do this with my co-hosts every day. I thank them and tell them they have done a good job, and really are working too hard.#24. Reflect on the steps you have taken to achieve your past goals.
#25. Express gratitude today by thanking someone.
#26. Think about the upcoming work week. How can you apply teamwork?
#27. Send or leave a handwritten thank you note to someone.
#28. Giving constructive feedback is one way to ignite honesty.

Hi all! My journey to London went as planned, but I went a long way around to the restaurant and ended up walking 45 minutes to get there. 🙃 Enjoyed the delicious lunch and managed not to let my difficult friend annoy me too much. Having such a limited time helped. Here we are at the Garden Cafe in Lambeth Palace.
B had to leave to catch her plane, but I stayed on with the others until I had to catch my train.
I walked a different way, but it took ages and I was worried I would miss my train, so I found a taxi loitering outside a hotel and he took me to the station.
I gave two friends the cards I made for them and P sent me this photo of it resting against some tulips the other girls had given her! Coincidence!
Trains home uneventful. I watched Couples Therapy. :-) on my phone.
Then picked up a pizza from round the corner for DH and me. The kids were already here when I got in. They are now watching 'The Incredibles' that I recorded for them. Phew! Hope the parents are not too late.

Tina ... $4500 for a new water heater? That price caught me off guard so I looked up both electric and gas water heaters/tanks. I'm assuming the bulk of that fee is for the plumber's installation because everything a looked at was under $1000.
Unexpected expenses are always worrisome to me and now that my husband and I are on a fixed income, I need to think ahead. We have several "savings funds" that would cover a bill of that nature, but I decided to up the amount of our home maintenance fund based on your post. Thanks!

I found something called yoga gloves - thin fingerless gloves with little non-slip dots. I've done yoga for many years and never heard of them before. Worth a try. I also looked up some exercises. I do wrist curls, and reverse wrist curls, but I need more weight to progress.
Well off to my horseback riding. It's a really warm and mostly sunny day here.

We are getting a better quality electric tankless water heater. And yes, labor here is through the roof. If we get the "regular" tank, it's a flat $1800 here.

Welcome newbies and returnees! (((hugs))) to those who need them.
Love those Miles-smiles, Allie! Thanks!
Very cool, Heather. Looks somewhat like batik and I love that. Who cares if it's not original, it's your original and it's lovely.
Beautiful shade, Pip. I can't wait until we can build a deck again. We ran out of funds when we resided & windowed the house a couple years ago and then lumber went through the roof. Now we're waiting, impatiently for it to go down, even a little so we can enjoy the backyard at night again.
Well Margaret, Freddy said the snow, in places, was above the plow so we did get close to that two-foot mark too. Wasn't quite the Snowmaggedon that they were predicting though. I think we could have gone to school yesterday. Today, not so much.
So, let's see Barbara...I finished the book and I have to tell you, if you like a lot a swings and twists and mixed up, ecclectic people, living together intertwined in the end, jumping back and forth between a little bit of fantasy and reality, you'll love it. If not, yeah, stay away. Again, it's called My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry, by Fredrik Backman (A Man Called Ove). It's just a wonderful story of this young girl's relationship with her Granny and how she deals with her parent's divorce. And you think it's going in one direction, but it immediately takes a turn within the first chapters and it gets odd and dark and interesting/fascinating IF you like that kind of thing. BUT, it jumps A LOT due to this "side story within the story" of the Land-of-Almost-Awake, which is how Elsa (the protagonist) figures out that Granny has been prepraring her to understand life and her neighbors/friends/family. I did like it, but it won't be one of those books that I'll immediately recommend to my friends.
23-Encourage your teammates to utilize their unique strengths...
