@shanaber I like the question.
.. but the toe nail next to my big toe (which is actually longer than my big toe) has been infected for like almost two months now (I know I should see a doctor but a. it is not always that bad, b. I have had several doctor friends look at it and give me treatment advice, and, in my opinion most importantly, c. I don't want to take any antibiotics or have anybody fiddle with it until after my race!).
I'm so happy I found a safe place to talk about feet and infected toes.
I have, and I've heard it is called, Morton's Toe, where the second toe sticks out more than the great toe. It's not much of an issue for me, but I understand for some runners the toe off motion unduly stresses that second toe and the whole foot, whereas most others, non-Morton Toe runners, have their toe off go on the much larger and stronger great toe.
I ran a very hilly 10K last July, in newish and too smallish shoes. Running down that mountain destroyed my left big toe. Though it really hurt and got really infected, I'm proudly now in the runners who have lost a toenail team. Go Team!
8 months later, and it is about 90% of the way back.7 -
@Scott6255 Great job with your sneasy run. I find those to be the hardest - when it should be easy, but it's not.
@kgirlhart I've been doing that for 2 years now, so won't be an issues. Is it a separate sign up or just something to try to get you to be consistent? Sorry, I guess I could go look it up instead of asking you. LOL Great run. Racoons are cute. Glad this one was smart enough to not get in the road.
@Laurz9191 You did great. I usually will eat a little a few minutes before heading out and then eat the actual meal after I am done.
You are doing great @ScienceofTeaching !
Hahaha @chris_in_cal . I hear you. Most of my friends aren't runners, so anything running related goes in one ear and out the other, or they just don't want to hear about it.
I had my aneurysm repair surgery follow up today. The CT scan showed that everything is good. I'll have another every year, just to make sure that the aorta doesn't decide to get bigger "down the line." Hopefully, that will not be the case.
Afterwards, mom and I ran some errands and had lunch at Freddy's - steakburgers. It was the first time either of us had eaten there and the burgers were really good. Had a few more errands to run and didn't get home until after 5:30! Geeze, that was a longer day than I expected. Anyway, I was tried, so went down and did a wun on the treadmill. I wun 2.50 miles in 38:08 min for a 15:15 min/mile pace. So, you can tell that it was mostly walking. My Avg HR was 113, with a max of 129, about what I was aiming for.

@quilteryoyo There is a separate sign up for the Streaker Challenges. I think you can sign up on the RTE tracker.1

Morning everyone ☺️
Got in a 5.
@quilteryoyo - glad to hear CT scan went well.
And shoulda taken/uploaded a pic of that Freddy's burger 🤤
@Laurz9191 - 🤣😂 laughing at aged 12 'pretty' and 80yr old feet bit 😂5 -
So sad, planned to run after lunch today nearby the kids’ daycare so I could pick them up after - got stuck in car behind Friday for Future protest for over 45 minutes = no time to run and late to pick kids up!!! Next Friday I will definitely choose a different route!!!!4

I had one completely removed in my teens, not a pleasant experience but they killed the sides of the roots and stopped it ever happening again. For years I've had to be very careful with the other one, cutting v's in the middle and stuff, but since I got into long trails and basically lost all my naols that hasn't been a problem. Silver lining and all that lololol.
@tarun_yadavA if you think it's because we're women, we need to initiate you in trails and ultras :-p
@eleanorhawkins Noooo... Didn't mean that at all. lol
I meant, men aren't bothered if they have ugly man feet is what I meant
Hahaha I see! True, I'm probably the odd one out there in not giving a flying toenail about that 🤣
We're actually proud of our black and falling off toenails.4 -
I have Morton's Toes, too. I get running shoes a half size larger to accommodate them. My main foot problems were recurring plantar fasciitis whenever I regularly ran longer distances, although now I am more diligent about stretching so hopefully as I ramp up my distances again it won't reoccur. My other weird toe problem is that when I walk or run I apparently lift my big toes, so I always get holes at that spot in my shoes. I strangely like being hearing about and being able to talk about odd foot issues. Feels like being in a not-so-secret club.

Thanks @kgirlhart .
Thanks @tarun_yadavA . I should have taken a picture. Great job on your run this morning.
Sorry @Laurz9191 . At least you had good intentions. I'll have to look up that protest... never heard of that cause before.

March Goal: 115 Miles
3/1: 5.06 miles
3/2: 5.51 miles
3/3: 2.15 miles
12.72/115 miles completed for March
I ran 2 miles for my streak this morning. It was a really good run. It was kind of cold, but since it was a short run I didn't mind. And I ran fast. Both of my miles were at a 9:34 pace. It was fun to run fast. I also saw a skunk this morning.

Nice speedy run @kgirlhart ! I would worry if I saw a skunk on my run.
I didn't have to leave for work until 10:30, so got up early enough to get in a short run on the treadmill. The plan called for 45 min low intensity. If I try hard enough, I can make it fit. I walked one mile total for warm up and cool down, and ran 2.25 miles in 31:24 min. I ran various amounts at 4.2 - 4.5 mph and only walked 4 minutes, I think. But, I did stop twice to talk to mom on the phone, so that helped me run "longer." Anyway, the average pace was 13:57 min/mile. Avg HR was 124 with a max of 138 bpm.
I've had a hard time getting in the runs I wanted so far this week, but I'm okay with my total only 3 days in. Plus, I reached my 200 mile mark with RTY today!

I needed a little PT today after yesterday's not-so-great run, so did 4 miles on the treadmill. Felt better afterwards.

*marked safe*
Long day of high winds, storms, tornado watches. I have 3 trees I can see down, debris, trash. Lost power and service. I will have to assess damages tomorrow in the light and much less wind.
This was posted a bit ago:7 -

I had this on one side of one great toe. No ingrowns ever since. It isn't perfect, but it did the trick preventing a recurrence.

@AlphaHowls I'm glad you are safe and hope you didn't have too much damage. The storms all went around us here, but we did have some high winds, briefly.
Nice before breakfast/brunch run @tarun_yadavA ! If you HATE it so much, why are you going?
@martaindale I hope you have a great HM! Look forward to hearing all about it!3 -
