@Teresa502 - Your hike sounds like like a huge and interesting adventure!2 -
@Teresa502 That sounds like an awesome hike. You guys did so many miles in such a short time too! I really enjoyed the pictures! I am glad you didn’t encounter the bears yourself. I have read many articles lately about the bears being more active on the AT. Did you guys bring bear canisters in your packs or just food bags?
About the mantra thing- I sometimes notice my brain placing little seeds of doubt or negative thinking- for example during a hard workout or a long run- so I figure using a mantra might help me banish those kind of thoughts to help me stay in the moment and not “worry” about future miles, or future yet-to-be-attempted intervals. I found the suggestions so far to be helpful to try out. This morning I found myself examining my surroundings more. Sure, I was on high slug and snail alert (it rained last night, so a definite necessity ) but I also enjoyed the flowers, rivers, castle, and grasses . I got 11.1km in.
So far for May I have 166.8/200km.
We used bear canisters. Adds a few more ounces of weight to your backpack but I find it easier than finding a tree with a limb at just the right height, just far enough away from camp, and then hanging my food bag. The shelter where we camped had bear cables and most of the people staying there used those to hang their bags. One other couple shared a large canister. One man camping at the shelter used a UR Sack which is supposed to be bear proof. A couple of weeks prior, he had a bear try to get into it one night. The bear failed to get to the food but he did some damage to the sack.
The U.S. Forest Service issued an order a couple of weeks ago that all food bags had to be hung (even the UR sacks) or you had to use a bear canister. Common sense it would seem but some people have to be told. I know of some hikers who keep their food bags in their tents and one who used her food bag as a pillow!
Glad you were able to enjoy your surroundings this morning! I don't enjoy my "city" runs nearly as much as when I run at home and have the fields, mountains and animals to watch. Unfortunately, there are no castles in my area!

I'm so excitified I don't know what to do with myself. I think I mentioned trying to get a place for the relay version of an awesome ultra in November and not winning that lottery? Well... we have a place! Those with winning numbers were given a week to pay and we were high up on the waiting list.
I was down in the dumps this morning because I saw the first race photos from Sunday and oh boy was my vest unflattering when wet. Reminded me how dismally I'm failing to ditch the few extra pounds marathon training caused. We headed out to do this month's club challenge, which was novel... they gave us a bunch of coordinates and we had to create our own route. My friend told me on the way there that her boyfriend had received the 'you're in' email, and he was 10 numbers ahead of one of ours, so I messaged the girl who had that number expecting her to say no mail. Turned out she hadn't seen it yet but it was there. My phone started blowing up with messages as we were out on the trail so I kind of guessed why but didn't stop to read them until we were back at the car. So exciting!
Not sure my legs will work tomorrow, I am super sore now, doing the challenge 2 days after the race was probably a bad idea but it was the only day we could go. Photos on strava of what was at the coordinates. Map hidden so others can't copy our route lol10 -

I ran 6 miles this morning. We had thunderstorms last night and I didn't sleep well. The weather was great this morning though, but I was tired starting out. I did end up getting into the run and enjoying it. I feel tired now and my feet are achy. I really need to get new shoes. I have 538 miles on my current pair.
We have more rain and possible thunderstorms in the forecast so tomorrow I will just run a short run for my streak. I have met my goal for May already, so I won't be too worried about running if the weather is bad. I am sure I can at least get a mile done. I do hope we only get rain and no storms. One of my dogs really hates storms and she will keep us up at night if it is thundering.

@eleanorhawkins How exciting! Congratulations!1
-
@eleanorhawkins Excited for you! Congrats!
@chris_in_cal that was a good one about the @quilteryoyo bus But glad it turned out it wasn't really serious.
Did my 7 miles on the TM after work.

Good morning everyone!
I got in 9k this morning. The weather went from tank top shorts weather 2 days ago, to long pants, shirt, and I-wish-I-had-brought-gloves weather this morning . It was quite funny, and, on the bright side, it’s easier to run faster.
@eleanorhawkins Congrats on getting a spot in the race. Also, I don’t think race pictures are meant to be flattering. And wet race pictures.., perhaps even less flattering. I always look awful in any and all of my race pictures- unless it’s a before/after. And hey, your marathon pictures looked great!.
So far for May 175.8/200km6 -
Also, I don’t think race pictures are meant to be flattering. And wet race pictures.., perhaps even less flattering. I always look awful in any and all of my race pictures
I am not particularly photogenic, but there is a particular cruelty to just how bad nearly all my race photos look. I don't think I can contribute to it from mortification, but I would love to see everyone else's top five worse race photos.

Logging 2 runs. Neither were much of note. More of the same. Decent runs, no real issues. I did manage to find a sprinkler during today’s run, which was amazing. It was even the misty ones that get you the right amount of wet without soaking you through.9 -
@eleanorhawkins You did great on your race. I would also have been happy about the cooler temps and rain. It sounds like you guys had a good time!
Congrats on getting a spot in the relay. Something to look forward too.
@chris_in_cal I never save my race photos. Finding one that isn’t terrible is basically impossible. I always look like I’m suffering even when things are going well.5 -

This caused quite a start, I thought I'd miss something big. @polskagirl01 conveniently left out the "toy" part. Get well soon @quilteryoyo
Sorry for the scare! I thought my laughing 😆 face would hint at it being a joke. But maybe it looked like I was laughing at a serious accident. Anyway, I hope the kid improves his driving skills before anyone lets him get behind the wheel of a real bus out on the road!
I'm feeling sorta ok today, but not really sure, (head feels different-funny, might be regular symptoms or might be side effects from a new medication), so I played it safe and didn't do too much today. Stood up long enough to make spaghetti, and made some progress on the quilt. The birds are singing happily outside and there's a lot of lovely greenery outside the window.11 -
@eleanorhawkins CONGRATULATIONS on the place in the race! That IS exciting!1
-
Not the worst, but one of the three runners in this shot, from my recent 5k, definitely isn't photogenic.
[\spoiler]8 -
Maybe it's the power of sluggestion from the slug-watchers in this group, but I've been feeling very sluggish on my wuns, despite the new shoes which are very comfy. I hope it's just a temporary phase as I try to be consistent after my knee bruise break.
Run photos of me always look bad. My response is always, "Is my running form really that bad?" I love your photo, @chris_in_cal. You're focused and upright!6 -
Woke up to thunderstorms this morning so had to run after work. Cut it short because I was running late, and Mama gets testy if dinner isn't ready when she gets home 😉

May 23: Walk1.15 miles, Run 1.35 miles (accidently)
May 24: Walk1.50 miles, Run 1.50 miles
I got my run done early today. I did the wun/intervals again, but today did 5x(0.3miles) with about 0.15 walks in between. It's easier to accidently run further. (Yesterday I meant to run 1.00 miles, but accidently ran an extra interval and didn't realize it until I checked Garmin connect.) LOL Anyway, I'm pretty sure that Garmin was losing the satellites during my workout today because I know I ran further a couple of times before reaching the 0.3 mile mark and the walking appears to be really slow....I know I wasn't that slow. So, in reality, I'm pretty sure that I ran/walked further and faster, but I'll go with Garmin's data. I ran a total of 1.5 miles in 18:30 min for an avg pace of 12:20 min/mile. Split paces were 12:40, 12:17, 12:13, 12:23 and 12:06. Not quite negative splits, but close. I also walked 1.5 miles in 25:55 for an avg pace of 17:17 min/mile. For the entire wun, my avg HR was 131 with a max of 155 bpm. The weather was perfect today.... 55F (12.8C) and clear, no breeze, 63% humidity.
I still can't get the ticker factory to work. It just keeps refreshing the tickers so can't select one. Anyone else having that issues?
MTD: 62.25/80 miles3 -
Hahaha and thanks @polskagirl01, @Laurz9191 and @chris_in_cal . When I wrote the "report" of my accident, I started to say that I got hit by a bus, but changed my mind. That little 3 letter word does make a big difference. My toe was black and blue and swollen for a couple of days, but seems to be back to normal today. @polskagirl01 He had 15 years to figure it out.
@eleanorhawkins I'm excitified for you! I'm sure the pictures aren't as bad as you think they are. We are all super critical of ourselves, I think. The challenge sounds interesting. I guess I need to sign up for Strava so I can see the photo.
Great running @kgirlhart . Congrats on already making your mileage goal for the month. I hope you didn't get storms and were able to sleep better last night.
Great TM running @Scott6255 . I find it hard to do much over 3 miles after work...but then again, you probably do 6 miles in the same time it takes me to do 3.
That's crazy weather @Laurz9191 .
Hahaha @AlphaHowls .
Great running @martaindale . Glad you found a nice sprinkler today.
@polskagirl01 You are doing so good and keeping such a great attitude, even when you can't do much. It's inspiring.
Love the photo @chris_in_cal .
@spl8 I hope you have a good run soon. At least you are out there and being consistent.3 -

I chose a different route this morning I don’t usually take because it has some hills and it was really fun- like a rollercoaster. About half the run was what you would expect a mountain bike path in the forest to look like. Great fun! I’m definitely going to take the route again! The weather is still really cold in the morning - long pants and shirt again. I am enjoying the cold weather. This weekend it should warm up again and I will have to start reacclimating to the heat .
I got 8.4km in.
So far for May 184.2/200km.9 -
Morning everyone!
Got in a 2Miler to the gym!8 -
Had a really good run yesterday evening with Dakota. The weather was mild and not too windy. My 50 mile target is within my grasp now. I'm not sure why but I've been stressing about reaching it all month. It's not like the sky will fall in if I don't make it, mind you with all the crazy stuff that happen nothing would surprise me. Plan to get another run today and then a friend's wedding tomorrow and afterparty on Saturday.

Great streaking @kgirlhart .
@chris_in_cal How did it feel to run two days in a row? You are doing great!
@Laurz9191 That sounds like a wonderful run!
@tarun_yadavA You are doing great and that pace is speedy to me. I know you aren't, but don't try to push it too hard right now.
@Mari33a You are doing great and can definitely make the 50 mile goal.
2 -
When I read your post this morning I was going to say way to be patient @tarun_yadavA, then I get to work and see you did a double today tsk tsk
@quilteryoyo yes, the ticker factory was acting really strange the last couple days, but seems to be back to normal today.
Got to go back outside this morning for 7.3 miles. Felt good.
5 -
@Scott6255 - I know. Tsk tsk indeed.
@quilteryoyo - thank you! Just going to continue to take it easy for now... Next run on the weekend!3 -

I have a bunch of awful race photos, and a few awesome ones. I made a little collage for you with a sampling of the bad ones 🤣🤣🤣 Enjoy.
Not necessarily bad but more like my beginner gait from an early race. https://youtu.be/cHEjfVYiXHo (Hopefully the link will work!)
These two guys wrote a song about running in Lublin, where I used to live. I appear around 0:19 dressed in pink and excited to see I was about to improve my 10k PR. Races there have gone downhill, I don't recommend races in that city anymore. I hope it never happens, but getting hit by a bus is a very real possibility with the way they direct their race courses. They let city busses come in and out of the courses and I've experienced personally and seen pictures where busses are riding right behind runners like they're trying to push them off the road (in my case, we moved to the sidewalk).
Today I took the kids to visit some friends who ended up in a children's home. It's another hidden struggle for Ukrainian refugees - many moms got their kids away from the war, but left behind their entire support structure and didn't leave behind their personal problems. I'm so thankful for whoever realized what was going on (a neighbor probably) and called the authorities, even though that means the kids are leaving. A family member traveled here and is working on getting custody, to take them back.Turns out I knew a bunch of the other kids at that facility as well, because they had been at our camp last year.
More non-running stuff:When I came home, I did a "10 minute deep relaxation" video and promptly fell asleep. Ha! I guess it worked! But when I woke up, I was thinking about the camp kids, and realized there's no fundraiser page in English, because I'm the translator and haven't been working. Hmmm... so I did it - without any struggles with thinking! A good day!10
