The weekend is upon us. My Dad is coming to visit which means interrupted plans and a big tidy up!
Good to know your surgery went well @katharmonic , rest well and see you back on your feet in a few weeks
I hope your daughter is well on the mend @kgirlhart
After my "triathalon" exercise yesterday I didn't feel like running this morning, a bit warm during the day, didn't feel like running in the evening. Still got out there for wk8 of C25k. I have been at this for 2.5 months now and really thought I would be enjoying at least the first 10 minutes. Instead I seems to be telling myself I have to do this right from the start. When my injury stopped me running a couple of years ago I was grumpy if I didn't run so I guess it will come around again.
Hopefully you all have a good, unsurprising weekend. Cheers!9 -
Holy hell that was a hot, humid, miserable run 🥵 Started just after 7am and Garmin said temperature was 82F and finished at 91F. I barely made it to 11 miles, and a big chunk of the last mile was walking. I am definitely not acclimated to the heat yet.

You are a wise runner!

Did a short 3 mile run this morning after a glute and ab workout. Had a family graduation party at lunch time and I used that as an excuse not to do a long run today. Planning on one for tomorrow.
@AlphaHowls - Beautiful pictures!
@katharmonic - I've been wondering about you. Glad you checked in with us and really glad you have the reconstructive surgery behind you and are on a path to healing again.
@Scott6255 - I would be struggling in those temperatures too. Good job on the 11 miles.

Hi all. Nice SHOE PORN @tarun_yadavA I am sure those will fix any twinges your knee is still giving you! (new shoes always help me) 🌟😉🌟
Wonderful morning photos @AlphaHowls
Belated happy special birthdays Chris and Scott. I have a significant one coming up in August which is driving a LOT of trash mail... 1958 was a pretty good year too.
@kgirlhart I hope the surgery was not major for your daughter. I can remember back in high school (ok in the 70's) one of our star tennis players had to have hers out and she was out for the entire season with recovery. Welcome to my town. One of these days you and Scott and I are going to have to get together. And maybe @martaindale when she's up near the hill country.
I did my first run since the first of 4 miles yesterday. I am not going to say it was fun or easy but I did enjoy the endorphins after and the feeling of accomplishment. We are headed into a really REALLY hot couple of weeks now so I am not sure my 90 miles is going to happen considering I haven't been able to avg even 2. I think because of being ill I am going to give myself a break and shoot for 60 this month. I have been trying to keep up with my walking but my resting heart rate and HRV stats are telling me that I am not recovered enough to push things yet.
So there is a nice guy at work (my age) who has always been attentive but lately he has started flirting a lot more. He is in a pretty bad marriage I think but I am not attracted to him so I have been just keeping things as "cool" as I can. Anyway he texted me on Thursday on our work IM and asked me "what do you do for fun?" I have been thinking about that ever since. Not him. But "what do I do for fun"
I honestly do not know anymore. The most fun I have had the past few months has been laughing and playing tennis with my neighbor so I think that counts. I used to really have fun playing with Bandit when he was turned out and we would chase each other around. I used to enjoy snow skiing, waterskiing a lot but now I worry too much about getting injured. I used to like going out to dinner or the movies I guess. I am not much of a travelor I don't honestly think running totally counts as fun altho I am always pumped when I am done. 😏😳😂 I don't count sitting on the couch binging netflix or playing candy crush as really fun. Playing with the kitties is fun I guess.
What do YOU do for fun?
and Tarun don't answer that because I already know you go out with the boys...... 🤣🤣

@felicityb2026 You sound like my kind of gal - prefer to sleep in and run later. I usually take sleep over getting up early for a run too. Wish I was a morning person, but I'm just not. Sounds like you have a great plan for your Aug race. Slow and steady if the way to go.
@TheMrWobbly I'm sorry you aren't enjoying your runs...dreading get out there it sounds like. I do the same sometimes. When I do, I try to focus on how great I will feel after I am done and know I would be miserable if I let myself talk myself out of at least a nice fast walk. The only run you regret is the one you don't do. Hang in there and hopefully it will get better soon.
You did great in that heat @Scott6255 ! Sounds miserable.
Love all of your pictures @AlphaHowls .
Hope you enjoy your new shoes @tarun_yadavA ! Thanks for the shoe porn.
@SummerSkier I'll have to contemplate on that question and answer later. Right after my husband passed, I had someone ask me what I liked to do (sort or the same question) and I froze. I had no idea. We had always done everything together and I wasn't sure anymore. It's a hard thing to realize.

I fell behind on posting here... Again!
I've been out camping with my parents, so lots of walking around the campground and elsewhere. I only logged a few of the walks, but I was definitely getting exercise! My mom has been really struggling with side effects from the meds she's on the keep cancer in remission (almost 3 years now!!) so I've been spending a lot of time with her.
@SummerSkier I keep joking that I have so many hobbies that I don't have enough time to go to work. I like to crochet, and often pair that with binge-watching a TV show while I stitch away at a project. I play a few instruments, and I get hired by a local symphony and local schools to play for musicals. School theater is always a blast, especially working with student musicians who are always so excited to get to play a live show. I also play board games/card games, but that's really more my husband's fun activity that I join in more to spend time with him than because it's my favorite.4 -
Thank you @quilteryoyo, @scott6255, @TheMrWobbly and @Teresa502! Good to "see" you all, and thanks for good thoughts.
I am feeling really well and I walked about 5 miles yesterday with Stella. It was a nice cool day and we strolled around the lakes with lots of breaks for wading in and drinking (her, not me). I did not feel (more) sore after that so I take it as a good sign.
@TheMrWobbly I was struggling with trying to get back to running and had the same kind of feeling that why was I still dreading it every time? I may try C5k to try to get back to it when I'm cleared to run again. I also may add in other activities than running on a more regular basis because "just running" right now doesn't seem appealing.
Hope you are all having a good Sunday.7 -
Grey and drizzling. It is not typical getting rain this time of year.
My new shoes, Asics GT-2000, are an upgrade over my last brand. Not perfect, but I like them so far.

Posting two days today.
Yesterday I had intended to do a long run early, before heading out for my great niece's second birthday party. But, I slept a little later than intended and mom wanted to do some shopping on our way through town, so I cut it short. I did quarter mile intervals on the treadmill...walk/ran at 3.8/6.0,5.0, (3 x 5.5) mph. Six mph felt too fast, five mph was too slow, so my Goldie Locks speed was 5.5 mph. It felt fairly easy.
I didn't sleep good last night, so, after lunch, I took a nap before heading out for 2 miles of driveway laps late this afternoon.4 -
@ScienceofTeaching Hugs to your mom. I know that is hard. Sounds like you got lots of activity in your days.
@katharmonic That sounds like a great walk and that Stella really enjoyed it. I might have been tempted to wade in with her.2 -

This weekend marked 10 years since I ran my first half-marathon. I wasn’t able to run the race yesterday due to a family graduation cookout so today I took myself to the Virginia Creeper Trail (a rails-to-trails) and ran 13.1. The longest that I’ve ran this year non-stop has been 12 miles and the last time I did that was in March. I’ve been hiking 14 and 20 mile days up and down these Appalachian mountains with 25 pounds on my back so I wasn’t really worried about being able to finish. My finish time wasn’t a PR but I did it. I then did some retail therapy and bought myself an overly priced but ultra light new backpack, followed by a visit to a coffee shop where I got a mocha and grilled cheese sandwich, and then to the produce store. I was planning to ride my bike this afternoon but it’s been rainy so I ditched that idea.
@Summerskier - For fun I hike and sometimes camp, ride my bike, hang out with friends, and I love to travel. I feel accomplished after a run, but can't really include that activity in the fun category.
Hope everyone has had a great Sunday!

I am back home from Austin and my daughter is doing well. I got out for a run this morning, but I only made it 8 miles. I was extra tired and it was extra hot and I decided that 8 was enough.
Thanks for the well wishes for my daughter @eleanorhawkins, @quilteryoyo, @tarun_yadava, @teresa502, @martaindale, @scott6255, @themrwobbly and @summerskier.
@katharmonic I 'm sorry you are back in recovery mode, but glad you were able to get the surgery done and behind you. Hope you feel better soon.

Morning everyone! Hope you all had a nice weekend.
New shoes - felt nice but don't think they've solved anything. Booked a session with a chiropodist. Have slight flat feet and have an orthotic insole. Could be that over time that's eroded slightly, so want to get that avenue ticked off.
Anyways. Upto 4.5 M total today5
