WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR JULY 2023

With a new month starting and "halfway day" on July 2, this is a good time to start a new practice or renew one that has been lagging. Being part of an encouraging and supportive group is what has helped me along my journey.
The name of the thread is "Women Ages 50+" but all women are welcome. Just read and respond to what interests you. I have been participating for several years and have made changes in my life as the result of the support from this thread.
Be sure to bookmark the thread so you can find it again.
It helps if you sign your post with a name or a nickname and a location, general or specific so we have a more personal connection with each other. It's easier for me to remember a name like Sally rather than xyj567v and when I know something about your general location, I understand what you mean when you say it's hot or cold where you are and I don't get so jealous that tomatoes are ready to pick in your southern yard long before they're ready at my far north location.
I read this thread every morning while I eat my breakfast. It puts me in a good mind set to begin my day.

Thanks Barbie for starting July on the right foot.🤗💖
This month will be minimizing snacking past 6 pm. After my hectic yet enjoyable June, its nice to relax a bit. My left foot still is giving me trouble from hurting it on June 16th. I will go in to doc and see if its healed ok, or what's going on. I am still limping around and there's parts of it that are still so sore.
Bought some broccoli today and have a small steak I will wok with onion, a 1/2 of a potato, and 1/2 of the broccoli bundle. The other half I want to steam and mix with pasta, and some cheesy sauce. I've got a taco night planned, and we bought a pan of lasagna so having a square of that one day. I have bananas and will slice those on a Kodiak fluffy waffle. I will have an over easy egg and bacon too. One of my days is labeled "breakfast extravaganza".
I might start counting my calories for my meals to see if I am on target.
Bought myself some new slippers. They're the kind you can throw in the washing machine. I am walking on a cloud.
I bought stamps at the post office today. I bought two sheets and a roll and it put us back $80 bucks! My pen pal hobby is expensive! But it makes me happy.
Hugs to you ladies!

Hobbies do cost money, and just like you produce wonderful blankets, I produce letters and both are necessary for our positive health.😁💖👍🏼 Cheers to us.

Right now it’s 105. The ac is on inside, I’m sitting outside so I can warm up. Tomorrow it’s supposed to be 75 at 5am and 74 at 6am. We’ll start our walk at 5 with a flashlight.5

Thank you Barbie!
Oh my, the year half over and the days, for us in the northern hemisphere, will start to shorten. Right now we are only losing 30 seconds per day but that will speed up in another month or so.
And speaking of tomatoes - I spotted some wee ones yesterday. Pleasant surprise after last year's odd gardening weather. I might actually have ripe ones before September this year.
Pip - that's HOT! Walking at 5 am sounds like a good idea - I have a hunch it might be light enough out that you won't need a flashlight unless it's foggy or other conditions. I like to walk at 5 am, it's plenty light in my neighborhood. Looks like we'll see the mid to upper 90's here on Wednesday then cool down to the 80's by the end of the week. Hope the fireworks enthusiasts take it easy this year, fire threat is high because the low humidity and winds.

Pip I start my two hour walk at 5:45 even though it doesn't get nearly as hot here as where you are. I like the solitude and quiet of the early morning and the great feeling of having so much morning left after the walk. Right now I don't need a flashlight but as the year goes on I'll need it more and more.
Rebecca there is a lot of research that shows that doing things for other people makes you happier 🌻❤

It will b dark when we start out. We won’t need the light for long but we will need it, especially to pick up the poop3 -
Debbie - you got some nice goodies from helping at the food bank! I always keep sauteed mushrooms in the freezer - I buy the white button ones on sale. They are good added to beef stews or lentil soup, yes they are chewy though. I usually just quarter them if they are small to medium, chop them if larger.
That hummus sounded great. Wish you lived on my block I'd gladly take some of it off your hands.

Worked then drove to SC to get some bisque. Even tho the ceramics place is closed, I did make this commitment before they closed so I think it only right that I buy the bisque. Then a friend stopped by with her GD. Boy, has she grown!
Annie – I use the timer on the treadmill/elliptical/whatever. I sprint for 10 seconds and then recover for 20. That seems to work for me. I know there is an app that will “buzz” or something at each interval, but I just use the timer on the piece of equipment
Tracey – so glad you got the letter
Took a walk down to the dollar store to get “Good Luck” cards for the gals at the ceramics place. Stopped into Food Lion but realized that I’d read the ad wrong so just came home. Then set up the new pedometer. Actually, Vince did it because I was getting frustrated.
Rebecca – it’s only money, you can’t take it with you. You deserve to enjoy yourself
Seems now Jerry is living in a tent behind Burger King. I think what happened is his sister said he could go to this boarding house so he gave his notice to his landlord. In the meantime the boarding house got filled up.
Allie – happy birthday
I have this sick feeling that the city of Hickory is just going to close the ceramics place. When they sold the other building, the only reason they moved was because Michelle said that she'd continue. Now that she isn't....they're going to have trouble finding someone who will do all the work she did for the salary she had. Plus, this person has to be good at painting eyes.
Off to bed.

30. Make a list of the joys in your life and keep adding to it. Joe, Tumble, Shadow, this place, line dancing, strolling, chatting with friends near and far, music, cooking, playing with plants.
Belated happy birthday Allie! the pics.
Barbie that red Tesla sounds like what Joe calls a “cop attractor” Thanks for the new thread!
Annie “better excuses” lol!
Pip your bag of Chispas!
Terri and Flea like your elephants and Mississippi. I was taught “one gorilla, two gorillas…”.
Machka I have trouble keeping the count pace slow and steady. When things get hard my gorillas get faster and compressed
Tracey rejoicing the letter came! What a relief! Agree with those who advised making copies, and if you’re mailing it to work be sure to pay extra for signature receipt/certified so you have proof of delivery.
Rita thanks for the details! So glad you’ve found something that helps you. Like you I’m going to take a break from the lists, except I’m going to write one gratitude per day.
Lanette I’d be very anxious/uncomfortable to be without wheels where we live.
Rori love hearing about the sunsets and evening lightening. A fond memory of sitting with friends on their porch swing watching heat lightning as the evening cooled.

Will do June summary and July intentions tomorrow but inclined to streamline a bit, fewer lists, targeting sugar rather than veggies, etc.1. Decide to look for what’s good every day this month. 1-Blue skies. 2-views of the ocean on way into town and on stroll chat with T. 3-sharing worries and laughter with D. 4-Pianist’s choice of offertory-congregation gave her an ovation. 5-Perfect temperature today, 70 degrees at 10 am, blue sky, sunshine, only the merest breeze to keep the air fresh. That “ahh I’m home” feeling. And then there was the birdsong. 6-cool still day perfect for burnbarreling the fernwhackings.7-Pomegranate/kombucha soothing my sore throat, thanks Lanette! 8-Zicam minimizing cold symptoms. 9-Joe volunteering to pick me up something from Freddie’s-Minestrone! 10-Jeopardy walking for the first time since got this cold. 11-vimeo-ed church but feel well enough to take dogs to powerline and play with plants on this gorgeous day. 12-Shower and clean linens after sweating for a week. 13-felt well enough for line dancing at the Grange. 14-H’s wife D’s yellow cake with buttercream frosting. Yum. 15-Joe liked his birthday book and cupcakes.16-drone was on clearance, $20 less than labeled. . 17-Blue sky, warm sun, wind held off ‘til after dog group. 18-dogs to powerline instead of Dirty Cello. 19-Joe’s feeling better. 20-Thanksgiving for serendipitous math sour cream mistake.
21-Discovered knife sharpening guy at farmers’ market. 22-Art stroll and coffee at the boardwalk with D. 23-Surprise text and visit from M, J, R, C and Cl!!! 24-dog group at HBVC. 25-admired Joe’s whack work down the cistern path. 26-email from Ki. 27-little ankle/balance blip didn’t hurt and had no effect. 28-last night, heard Tumble being sick so was able to clean it up before stepping in it barefoot ;}. 29-Joe was only 2nd in line for blood tests. 30-coast guard came quickly, found divers were not in distress ;}

Good evening ladies!
Barbie thanks for the new thread!
Today I ate a whole lot of calories. I meant to relax a little, but I overdid it. I got into the fancy cookies I bought to serve my aunt. I noticed they are due to expire so I ate a bunch. Anyway, I did my usual exercise plus an extra twenty five minutes on the bike, Yay! , And wound up with a tiny deficit of 22.
That's my second binge day out of fifteen days. I didn't realize it was that often. I got out of my routine today taking Teddy to the vet. But that's no excuse.
My usual speed on the bike is 14 or 15, depending on the music. I found out I am capable of a sprint of 20, but I can't keep that up very long. Still it could serve for a short interval.
Thanks for all the ideas about timing intervals.
You have given me a lot to work with.

Heather - What a show that must have been seeing the whales.
I love Mama Mia!
Barbie - I’m like you,I would prefer to be casual. My fussiness would probably make it so the casual dining was best. I wouldn’t have the clothes to wear to be formal except for the gown I wore at my daughter’s wedding.
I thought your friend buying the car was going to drive you to get the new one? Is that not happening now?
I weigh myself every morning. With all of this stress I have allowed my self to get only 3-4 lbs from my highest weight. I need to work on this.
Rebecca - Peanut Buster Parfait is the best! Mmmm
Simplistic is a much better word. . Gotta love the English language. That would be a lot to handle yourself I imagine, also hard to give up.
What is the name of the 3 part series on Bill Cosby and where is it streaming?
We use bagged salad too, we found lettuce so expensive and terrible, we were having to throw half out the day we bought it because it was bad.
I read an article that lettuce is going to become a rarity in Canada. 🤷♀️ who knows these things for sure?
Annie - I had it emailed to me so I have it.
You may have lots of excuses, but you’re still getting the job of losing weight done. I’m hoping for a restart in July since I’m hoping I can finally start healing from the stress.
Allie - you look wonderful! I love that you have two pictures of yourself in that swinging chair.
Rita - I hope July is much better for you. Such a relief for you with your son. Hopefully he gets far, far away.
LeeAnn - we just booked a campsite for the end of August. We were hoping for Aug 8 - 15 but there is a concert in the area we wanted to go and there are no sites available, so we are going two weeks later instead.
Rosemarie- My daughter taught me about body doubling after she was diagnosed with ADHD at age 32. Apparently this is a technique that works well with some sufferers of ADHD. This explained so much about her upbringing. The only time she was ever successful is if I was right there with her working too. So many arguments would never had happened if we had known about this.
I still go and help her organize her house from time to time.
Lanette - I always call my brother after meeting with a mechanic to see if I’m being lead down the right path. I would worry in your situation too. Glad it was not a lot of surprises though.
Pip - I love how you and Kirby are so dedicated. Nothing stops your exercise.
Welcome Jolene
Flea - what a great trip!
Michele - does the city own the ceramics shop? I hope they find someone, you will miss it.
Our shop owner does eyes too.
Hobbies are what keeps me going sometimes. I probably spend on average $30-$50 every two weeks on my various hobbies. DH’s hobbies are much more expensive. We have to calculate the cost of the sheds, they were started to use up wood and ended up having to buy a bunch more. I think it’s close to $1000 😮
Barbie - thank you again for a new month.
The Grands are coming tomorrow so we can attend some free Canada Day Festivities. 🍁🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦
I know pets don’t like them, but I love fireworks and I hope they aren’t going to be cancelled. It’s supposed to shower in the afternoon so it should be good.

Barbie in NW WA
It's funny ... I often remember numbers better than names. I have a terrible time remembering people's names. For a while, I figured everyone should just be given a number, it would be easier to remember.
Meanwhile, my husband was really good at remembering names until his accident. Since my husband's accident, I've worked much harder at remembering people's names so I could help him. It can be done ... memory can improve. But it is an uphill battle.
As an aside ... do you remember the Seinfeld episode where George thought the name Seven would be a good one for a girl?
We have a large Asian population here, so as far as I'm concerned, I'll attempt to remember all sorts of names including Quynh, Yi, Silpa, Reshmi, Priya, Li wei, Nguyên ... and Seven.

June Highlights
June was a busy, chaotic month.
* I exercised most days, but had a few days off because of travel and injury. On the days I exercised, I cycled, walked, ran, gardened, rowed, lifted weights and climbed lots of stairs.
* We did manage to cycle a 50 km ride, but it took two tries this month.
* Injured left arm
* I lost another kg which isn't bad given that we were travelling and I usually gain weight during travel! So I'm 4 kg down from my high point in mid-April.
* Finished planting the native bushes in the garden bed I'm currently working on. And dug up about half the bulbs. I would be out there today digging up the rest, but I'm resting my arm.
* Attended 2 bee webinars.
* Attended a brain injury peer group meeting.
* Attended a cycling conference in Melbourne, Australia
* Visited an area we haven't been to in over 5 years.
* Flew for the first time in over 4 years.
* Lots of colouring and reading for pleasure.
* Reading the Bible every day.
* Did a little bit of work on the online course I'm taking from a university in Melbourne.
* So many meetings and webinars at work.
* Lots of medical appointments.
It was a month of running from one thing to the next.
