Good Wednesday,
Barbie Prayers for you and Jake! What an unexpected outcome,
Heather UK adding you to my healing thoughts. Those vivobarefoot shoes look wonderful!
Macka My DH is only barefoot in the shower. He always has shoes or slippers on. I on the other hand am like you. Barefoot as much as possible. DH made some comment about my little white tennis shoes offering no support when walking. I had to explain that it was as close as I could get to barefoot in public. In the winter, I wear clogs with socks so that I can kick them off and on behind the counter at work. Your comment about use it or lose it hit home. I have a friend that constantly complains about her hands and feet. She has arthritis. Her doctors told her to use more to help ease pain. Well.....you can lead a horse to water, but can't make it drink.
Yesterday was weird. I was just quiet. We washed truck and picked up a couple of large item purchases before traffic gets stupid. DH asked if we needed to walk. I said sure. I really wanted a nap, but we went walking. There was only a 30% chance of rain at 6. So we parked and walked. We walked about 2 miles from car and realized the sky's were getting dark up ahead. It wasn't 5 pm yet. We turned back towards car and booked it as fast as DH would let us go due to my heart. He listened to me breathing and paid attention to my body language and would slow down if he felt something off. My HR only got to 120, so all good. We were about 1 mile from car when it started lightening and thundering loudly. About 1/2 mile left and it started sprinkling. One of the shop owners (we bought a gas pump from that morning) was leaving his shop and drove past us. I said out loud, Hey Gus , you could have stopped and offered a ride. Now he didn't hear me. His windows were up and I didn't shout. All of a sudden, his brake lights go on and he backed up. He gave us a ride to our car. We got there and in just before the skies opened up! So thankful. So much for 6 pm. It was only around 5. At least we were dry. Dinner after that, then visited our pinstriper down here. Just sat, talked and watched cars going by. Came back to cabin around 8. Got my steps in and made stair goal.
Not sure plans for the day. I know I need to do a little work.
TTFN,

Margaret I love that! I screen shot it.
Machka So true! Even my conversations go that way. My DH says my squirrels get the best of me.

Barbie - Thinking about Jake, so glad he went to get the knee seen to! Thinking of you, as well. Glad, too, that the kept an eye on him for the night. Hope there is no joint damage from the infection.
Ginny - Hope you enjoy the dinner with your YS and DIL!
Tina - First, welcome back! The pictures were just wonderful. Second, I'm with Machka - 78 degrees would drive me right round the bend for in-home temperatures. I get horribly cranky when I'm too hot for too long.
Heather - Glad the results were negative, and hope you feel better soon! I'm going to have to look into my next booster as well, now that the FDA has approved them here. Jessamy is such a lovely woman - and all three of your grands have such great combinations of her features and Jack's. Handsome family.
I've gained four and a half pounds in the last four days, and I've been tracking my food. I'm not eating nearly enough to account for the gain, and I've been moving, not being sedentary. I'm well aware that a large chunk of it is water weight, but I don't care how far we get past our "dieting" days, it's disconcerting.
It has me seriously contemplating a two- to three-day bone fast at the beginning of next week. Corey was totally fascinated by the complete reset my system went through from the clear liquid fast prior to the colonoscopy. While he usually doesn't weigh in on my food choices, he has urged me to try a two- to three-day liquid fast (without, of course the complete laxative purge after!) to see if it would help me reset my system once more. I still haven't decided whether I'm doing it, but am going to go ahead and get a chicken in today to roast and then re-cook for bone broth, with the thought of attempting a bone broth fast. Has anyone tried this kind of fasting (or any voluntary 24- to 48-hour fasting), and if so, any advice or suggestions?
Hope it is or has been a lovely day for all,
Love,
Lisa in AR

Rita ... thinking of you and your son this morning
Heather... hope your sore throat is just the run of the mill crud and is soon much better ...
Margaret ... love the flashlight analogy! Loosely using The Parable of the Pencil, I used a pencil analogy for my children's sermon this past Sunday
Karen VA ... I see you're here ... hope all is well
Pip ... congrats on your race and the new bike
Barefeet .... can't do it. I'm like Princess Pea with my feet ... a single thread or pine needle or tiny, tiny speck of dirt in my shoe sends me into a tizzy. I have something on my feet the minute they hit the floor in the morning
Lisa ... I'm hitting the reset button myself today. Way, way too many carbs the last few weeks coupled with insomnia have created a temporary weight gain. I will be be back on 19:5 fasting with really only one meal. I have done longer fasts of 24-36 hours, but don't have any good advice.
Kelly ... I'll be praying that your open childcare spots fill soon!

Ooooh Rebecca- Eli! I can almost smell that wonderful new baby smell! I am sure Athena will warm up to him in no time. I remember sitting with Joaquin after Miguel was born and Joaquin was not happy about a new baby. I told him that Miguel came into the world with nothing; and we have to give him everything. Even love. Then as Miguel gets older, he will give us love back because we gave him love and we are his first carers and teachers. After that, Joaquin was a bit more interested in Miguel.
Tina- I love the pics from the Honduras! Too bad the missionary family were so "down" on the honduran people. Perhaps 15 years was too long for them to be there?
Barbie- Wow! Nice catch on the infection in Jake's leg! Glad he went in to have the leg checked. Sending good thoughts/prayers of healing his way! Hugs to you and glad you have helpful neighbors and loving pups to keep you company.
Rita- What a cute little scale! I need to get a new one. I let my childcare kids use it for math activities. I don't think I can trust the accuracy of it anymore! lol
My daughter bought an Infinity Hoop to get her started on working out again. She is shorter than I am at 5'6, but over the past seven years (and three pregnancies) has put on well over 100 pounds and now weighs more than I do. My heart just aches for her with this weight gain. She works at a desk 40 hours a week, then her "at home" time is filled with three little boys, keeping house, and keeping things moving forward. I am sure if I had had a desk job, I would have gained a lot of weight after having my kids. But my jobs (restaurant and then childcare) have always been very active. So, my weight issues didn't hit until my 40s. Anyway, she has been able to get up early every day this past week and has been working out for 30 minutes each morning with the hoop. She says she can feel it in her legs, butt, and waist. All good.
I have been talking with my SIL (DD's husband). He is very excited about the move here. That makes me so happy. He is not a very chatty guy (unless it is about books or movies that he enjoys), but he said that he is just ready to have family around and have the boys doing things and celebrating holidays and birthdays with family. He is also excited to have the boys in an environment where they can be outside anytime they want and not worry about heatstroke or fire ants. He sees my posts about things I do with the childcare kiddos and knows that the boys would love all of the activities. I told them I would have room for them when they move up here in my childcare, if they need it. My plan would be to get Joaquin and Miguel signed up for some camps at the Y; so that they can meet some kids their age before school starts next fall. Javi could just stay with me and the childcare kiddos and meet/make friends that way. Ahhhh! I get so excited thinking about it. Only a few months away.
I have been on vacation this week. I have spent most of my time, so far, resting/sleeping. The cold is slowly getting better; but the gunky feeling in my throat/sinuses hangs in there, still. BUT...I have gotten basic daily chores done. Laundry, cooking, shopping, paperwork, etc. Today, I will be venturing into the yard and doing some trimming, weeding, and possibly burning of wood. I also need to count up how many egg cartons I have collected so far to see how far I have to go to get another spaceship made. I am guessing I have about 300 egg cartons; only 150-200 more needed. We will see how close I am. Anyway, I better sign off and get busy. Too easy to stay in and puttering on the computer as it is a cool 60F outside. Love and hugs to all ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)7 -
Sodium is something I pay attention to. My meals are generally low sodium but when I veer from that path (packaged foods or restaurant foods) I see the difference on the scale immediately and it takes days to reset when I go back to my regular foods. I don't take the scale too seriously one day at a time and look for trends.
Jake is lonely in the hospital and sent his first text to see if I was awake at 3:15. When I got up at 4:20 I had so much to do getting dressed, taking dogs out, feeding them, taking them out again that it was 5:30 before I could talk or text to him. They are coming in this morning to see Jake for physical therapy and other treatment so I was able to postpone bringing things to him until later. I host a Zoom meeting at 8:45 AM so my visit would have had to be very early or wait to leave the house until after 10. It is about a 30 minute drive to the hospital. Instead, I was able to have quality time in the yard with the dogs and still take my 90 minute 10,000 step walk.
Kelly, what a great plan to have your grandsons included in your day care group.
I wear shoes and socks almost all the time so I'm ready to go out with the dogs. I wear socks to bed. I am barefoot only in the shower.
We keep the thermostat at 69 in the winter and 74 in the summer with programming to go down to 60 at night in the winter and 70 in the summer. We wear lots of layers when it is cold and have small blankets available, as needed.

1. Find time for self-care. It’s not selfish. It’s essential. Making time!
2. Notice the things you do well, however small. I will. Talking to campers, meeting dogs, electronics.
3. Let go of self-criticism and speak to yourself kindly. I will try!
4. Plan a fun or relaxing activity and make time for it. Did this already! Went for a long walk this morning.
5. Forgive yourself when things go wrong. Everyone makes mistakes. This will be hard because I tend to blame myself for everything.
6. Focus on the basics: eat well, exercise, and go to bed on time. Will Do!
7. Give yourself permission to say ‘no’.. I’m doing this more often now.
8. Be willing to share how you feel and and ask for help when needed. I will try to remember to ask for help when I need it rather than struggle and get frustrated.
9. Aim to be good enough, rather than perfect. This needs to be a mind change for me. Whenever I do something, I get upset if it is not perfect. I need to make it a point to accept what the result is while doing my best.
10. When you find things hard, remember it’s ok to not be ok. This is apt for today.
12. Get active outside and give your mind and body a natural boost. Went for a 20 minute walk then the rain started.
13. Be as kind to yourself as you would to a loved one.14. If you’re busy, allow yourself to pause and take a break.
15. Find a caring calming phrase to use when you feel low.
16. Leave positive messages for yourself to see regularly.
17. No plans day. Make time to slow down and be kind to yourself.
18. Ask a trusted friends to tell you what strengths they see in you.
19. Notice what you are feeling without any judgement.
20. Enjoy photos from a time with happy memories.
21. Don’t compare how you feel inside to how others appear outside.
22. Take your time. Make space to just breathe and be still.
23. Let go of other people’s expectations of you.
24. Accept yourself and remember that your are worthy of love.
25. Avoid saying ‘I should’ and make time to do nothing.
26. Find a new way to use one of your strengths or talents.
27. Free up time by canceling any unnecessary plans.
28. Choose to see your mistakes as steps to help you learn.
29. Write down 3 things you appreciate about yourself.
30. Remind yourself you are enough, just as you are.

Jake is in the hospital. What he thought was a badly twisted or sprained knee turned out to be a big infection. His primary care doctor ordered blood tests and an ultrasound of the area and had him go to the emergency room late yesterday afternoon. I left him there to come home and take care of the dogs. I went to bed fully dressed expecting to get a call in the middle of the night to come get him, but he texted at midnight that they were keeping him. He had good doctors, a comfortable bed, and I'll be bringing him some clean undies and jammies and personal care products early in the morning so he can get cleaned up. There is no projection about when he'll be coming home. I just borrowed a walker from my neighbor who is a former line dance student from my class.

WOW another with a really bad infection! What is causing all these infections?
My son was cleared of TB and they removed his IVs yesterday. Not sure but he may be getting out soon. We spoke for a while last night and he sounds more like himself. I just hope and pray he doesn’t get back into the bad situation he was in before he was hospitalized. Even though we worry and care, parents can’t make decisions for their grown children. We can only hope the make the right ones.

Barbie and Jake ~ Thinking about you and hope Jake will make a quick recovery.
Kelly ~ How exciting to have the family closer!
Lisa ~ The sudden weight gain has to be water weight. Just keep doing all the good things for your health that you have been doing.
Rita ~ Add my good thoughts that your son will recover quickly.
Rebecca ~ Love Eli's hair.
I have been wearing a knee brace when I go out to the grocery store and today discovered I have a huge purple area on the outside of my knee that must be broken blood vessels. I don't know if it is the brace or another problem.

Barbie-how horrible about the infection. I assume it is all internal (or you would have noticed outside signs). Hope it heals thoroughly and they determine the cause. Take care of yourself.
Heather-hope it isn't Covid. Sore throats can come from many sources but I think you are smart to test when you have the generalized symptoms. Latest booster just got FDA approval here. I will try to schedule close to long weekend next month. I have learned with all vaccines to give myself rest/recovery time since I seem to have definite reactions to them.
Rebecca-Eli is gorgeous! An amazing amount of hair. Since I had 6 and 7 lb. babies he doesn't look tiny to me at all.
Need to get stuff together to leave town for a couple of days. I plan to stop by house and change into jeans for drive and evening, but want it all ready to go. YS and DIL coming to hotel to meet for dinner.
Take care all,

His father was 7.7 oz so he looked utterly beautiful. He was wearing the onesies we bought him. They had bulldozers etc on them.🤗💖

I have done a couple of 48 hour fasts. 🙃😁. I ate a good dinner at 6 pm and then fasted the whole next day. It helps to line up some projects so food isn't even "in the wheelhouse". If Cory isn't fasting just let him fix his own meals that day. It is hard to play chef when you want to eat. Water and or black coffee or plain tea. Eat nothing that will prompt your body into thinking food is coming. Even herbal teas can start the process. Usually that first night (at 26 or so hrs mark) I get super cold. Its just that all my energy is going to organs to keep them happy, so hands and feet you're on your own. I take baths or showers. Remember it is not just fasting that you're doing, but you're giving your body a rest, its cleaning house, and its a great reset. If you need to call me, tag me on Facebook and we can giggle at each other on Messenger.🤗. My face is my profile pic.🙃

In bed- it is wear as little as possible but have extra blankets if I need them. Tank top, even in the winter, can't stand feeling the sleeves(very restrictive). Dh, on the other hand can sleep in a sweater and sweat pants and socks on(but sleeps on top of the bed).
The heater is set at 62 at night and at the most 68 during the day in the winter. Grab a jacket if I am cold. I stay in the living room most of the time(no one else is in here hardly at all) and for some reason, this room is always cold which is great this time of the year but not so much in the winter. If I am the only one home, I usually keep the heater down, don't want to warm up the whole house just for me. The guys stay in their rooms most of the time- the rooms are small with lots of electronics on that heat up their rooms quickly. I have a few electric throw size blankets I keep in the living room on the couch if I want to use them. Usually I am at my desk on my computer. I also have an electric foot warmer under my desk- don't use it often but nice to have it when my feet are too cold and start aching.
Need to pull it out and clean it before I need to use it- has been under my desk since last winter, time to pull it out.
I hope your hubby starts feeling better soon. It is crazy thinking it was something pretty simple to finding out it is something totally different.
Years ago, my dh went to the dr. thinking he had something wrong with his knees. He works full time on his feet on concrete floors in the store- at first the doctor thought he was pulling something to get out of work, even sent him to psych- actually wanted help so he could continue to work. Had a hard time even getting him an appointment(then one of my daycare parents pulled some strings and got him in beings she worked in that department)- decided to xray and at the last minute added his hips to be checked too. Results came back and the doctor really changed the way he talked to dh. Good news was, knees were fine, bad news was he needed double hip replacement. The pain he was having was from his hips, radiating to his knees. Had them replaced, four years later, they failed big time with metal poisoning and had to have major reconstruction done to repair the damage and have new hips a second time. They are still not right but better than he was.
Rita- glad your son is doing better and pray he makes better choices in the future.
Kelly- Hope you get more kids enrolled. I remember that happening a few times over the years. I never had the big daycare. I was only licensed for 6(8 if two were school agers) and had a few times where I was down to 0 and was stressful. Always seemed to happen right around the holidays.
Pip- nice Cannondale- we picked one up at a garage sale a few years ago- hoping our son would ride it- he didn't like it- now it sits in the garage- I think we paid $150 for it. It sits with our other bikes- would love to ride again but not by myself, at least not at first. May have to just do it if I want to ever ride again. Thinking of getting a bike rack for my car so I can take it to the wetlands.
Second cup of tea done, need to get up and get something done- need to do an hour of decluttering in the living room and then go out in the garden.
Still not used to not having Ezie every day.
Only real thing planned today is class tonight.
Debbie

Machka-I can relate on the heat issue. I seem to be warm all the time now and have random overly-hot periods of a few minutes. Not like hot flashes. Those came from inside and radiated out. This is just an overwhelming heat all over, mostly on my head. However, the mister is always cold (I think a side effect of some medication he's taking), so we have a battle with the thermostat. He keeps it at or over 78F/25.5C. I want it well below that in the daytime and I'd love it around your temp at night. He likes to sleep in a sauna (always has). When he's at work, I crank the A/C down and I'm comfortable. At night, I toss and turn and sweat. Then he complains that I have health risks for not getting enough sleep. Well, he can just wear a sweater and get another blanket! It's so frustrating.
Have a good day!
Tina in CA
The temp simply wouldn't be that high in my house!!
I'd either burst into flame or melt like the Wicked Witch of the West.
My husband and I sleep in separate beds, but same room. One of the benefits of that is he can sleep under a large warm down duvet ... and I can sleep under a sheet and light blanket.
I have a friend who lives in Honduras. She seems to like it.
M in Oz
I have mentioned the separate beds idea and he won't go for it. So, when I get too hot, I go into the guest room and sleep with the fan blasting. This will happen more and more often for the next few weeks because it's just stinking hot here and we no longer have house guests. I generally sleep much better when I'm alone in a bed.
I frequently feel like I'm bursting into flames. I know it's the house temp because I'm generally just fine when we are elsewhere.
