Good evening ladies.
Had a dental appointment this morning. Just a cleaning and checkup with no issues so happy about that. Did chicken drumsticks in the air fryer for supper today and they were so good. I don’t use my air fryer very often but think I’m going to start. Storing it in my kitchen pantry now so will be easy to get at.
Allie so sorry to read about the scammer. So easy to fall for this stuff and very time consuming to get everything resolved. I don’t answer the phone unless I know the person calling. Have an answering machine and if someone leaves a message I’ll decide if I call back. We get a lot of nonsense phone calls.
Joy
Yes, I get 3 or 4 calls a day that are well worth ignoring.
And about 1 call a week that I will ring back because it is something I am expecting.
In the old days of rotary dial phones, we answered everything! Now we ignore everything.

Your friendship means so much to me. I read everything you write and think about it during the day. I don't have much to share but I want you all to know how much you add to my life. My life is peaceful with a lot of knitting, exercise bike riding, and TV watching. Today is Jake's birthday so we ate what he wanted, watched the TV he wanted to watch, and good friends came over for a visit. Life doesn't get any better than this.

Michele - I hope your hand is better today.
I agree about the kids living in a bubble now. Based on my Grandkids and some discussions with their mother one problem is the neighbours.
She said, that unlike the neighbourhood when they were growing up, people are too busy making sure you don’t allow your child to be alone outside for two seconds. If you do, they call CPS instead of offering to keep an eye on the kids for a minute or two. She lives in the same neighbourhood she grew up in. It’s sad really, kids can’t make mistakes and parents don’t get that sense of community.
The “it’s a village” seems to be gone in most communities now.
No, but much closer than Denise.
Allie - these scams are getting to be too much. I don’t trust anything or anyone. I never answer my phone and any emails I delete and go check my actual accounts for messages. It’s awful I hope you get it resolved quickly. You aren’t dumb though, you shouldn’t speak about my friend that way.
Ginny - I think our Thanksgiving is very similar to American, food wise. Turkey, pumpkin pie, in my house usually apple too.
There were 10 of us for dinner last night. A friend of ours posted on Saturday that he was going to be alone so we invited him. Another friend was already coming.
We don’t have all the football and the start of the Christmas season right afterwards.
Lisa - I guess that’s good news at the cardiologist? Anything that can’t be fixed isn’t the best news but a minimally invasive fix is always welcome.
Vicks under the nose is something I learned from my SIL for stinky smells.
Rebecca - I literally laughed out loud at your Mom’s “cure”. The things that used to be considered good first aid usually make me laugh.
I remember my grandmother having mercurochrome in the cupboard, wasn’t it for cuts though? Salt water was for sore throats in our household. Gargle Gargle.
Does anyone remember put butter on burns?
Machka - I find when I have a hobby I love “to make money”, I end up not liking the hobby anymore.
Barbara - I have trouble not giving advice too. It’s hard when we love someone and just want to help.
Heather - Bea is a brave girl. I’m not afraid of them, but certainly don’t like them.
Scammers - I am part of a couple of vendor groups on FB, it’s a place where organizers for craft shows can post that they are searching for vendors to participate. The scammers have been terrible on there this year. I’m almost afraid to send the money to reserve the table. It’s quite discouraging.
I worked for 20+ years in the security industry. During times like this when money was tight, there was always a jump in the need for security guards. People become desperate I guess and the innocent get preyed upon.
Barbie - I missed your post about Jake’s advice. I agree with others, that’s me telling them I love them. Our family does not leave the house without a “Text me when you get home. Drive safe.”
We don’t give advice unless it’s asked for usually.
Terri - You’ll have to show us your floral arrangement. It sounds cute!
I didn’t have class today but have in school class the next three days. I did three loads of laundry today, returned bottles, and sold two chairs I’ve had on Marketplace since June.
This evening I caught up with The Voice and started another stocking.
I also forgot to post this. I made it for my MIL for Christmas. I just need to put a bow on it.
It was looking for different bow making techniques that I fell down a rabbit hole and ended up watching a 3 hour compilation video on inexpensive Christmas Crafts Saturday night. I have so many ideas swirling in my brain.
I think I’ll head to bed now. It’s been a long time since I’ve been around people during the day, I’m looking forward to is.

Today’s gratitude: while I’m frustrated to be bouncing around in the 130s again, I’m grateful it’s not the 140s that it was for decades. Woke up this morning to warm house thanks to the fire Joe started in the woodstove. We’ve already had two power glitches so really thankful for consistently warm and dry shelter.
Lisa, caught myself giving my friend T some unsolicited advice about treating her “cold”. Backpedaled, apologized for being so bossy and asked for forgiveness. Baby steps.
Betsy prayers for your sister and you continue.
Rita brava for trying new calming actions.
Heather ‘spider therapy’ [shudder]. Thanks for the Penny update.
Tracey thanks for explaining about the hospitals and when they have to shut down their ERs. Do the doctors have waiting lists for new patients? your Thanksgiving pic. Yes, Mama used to put butter on burns and gave hot salt water to gargle for sore throats. Ginger ale and heating pads for upset stomachs. Pepto for the poops. Vinegar on sunburns. Baking soda on insect bites. Iodine on cuts. Cool dishrag on the back of the neck for nausea. Our kitchen was a regular medicine chest.
Lanette that “studies show…” meme made me laugh so loud I woke Joe! Thanks!
Machka raw local honey at our farmers’ market cost $18/pint the last time I bought, could be more this season.
Barbie warm birthday wishes to Jake. “our friendship means so much to me. I read everything you write and think about it during the day.” Ditto.

Kylia-your experience with husband hit home! I currently have someone like that at work. After given opportunity to step up and not doing so, likes to jump in to be savior when I step in to handle. Was driving me crazy for awhile (of course I thought I was the problem). Nope-I don't need the "there, they're dear" behavior.
Scammers-years ago we got rid of home phone. Surprisingly it was my husband's idea-he was sick of all the random calls. Of course, they now have cell phone numbers but the call filters do help.
Tracey-very nice gathering! We often invited those alone over. My children are continuing that tradition. I would like to have more of a break between Thanksgiving and Christmas-makes November and December much too rushed.
Karen-hello! Good to see you dropping in!
Barbie-Jake's birthday sounds perfect!
Not giving advice is hard and it is a delicate balance.I did give some yesterday-staff member reported they were feeling very bad with cold, migraine etc. I didn't tell her to test for Covid-I just said to take care of herself and I hoped it wasn't Big C. Later that morning she reported she tested positive. At that point I did suggest she talk to her doctor about one of the medicines out for treatment (she has several co morbidities). This is her second or third case and she seems to feel worse with this one that the others. I didn't feel as bad about giving her the suggestion since I have used it with both of my cases and have had good experience (except for nasty taste. I haven't bothered her about it since initial text.
Meeting I was rather dreading yesterday ended up being interesting. Also got to have side bar discussions with a couple of issues I needed advice on. Will run in to office for brief meeting with staff this am (new United Way Committee) then home-hopefully they come to fix tv between 10:30-2:30. I have a podiatry appointment at 3 I really don't want to reschedule. Right after that I head to Columbus for a farewell dinner for long time colleague and stay overnight for Executive committee meeting Thursday. I have checked out the menu at the restaurant and am pretty sure it will be the salmon (typically one of the lowest calorie choices with tons of nutrition).
Off to get in my morning work out and pack a bag.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio5 -
Had a very nervy night. Did get some sleep, but did some reading and lots of meditation. I'm now feeling a lot better as I'm more or less packed, and have sorted my liquids etc. I won't be able to take extra shoes, so will be in my black trainers the whole time, but that's OK. I've made a list of last minute tasks.
Easyjet, our carrier has very strict baggage limits. And every scrap of liquid, or paste, has to fit into a small plastic bag.
I went out this morning to buy DH a birthday card. Haven't got the bandwidth to paint one. It's his birthday while we are away. I've already given him his favourite posh ginger biscuits, and will get him some posh chocolates in France. His main present will be a replacement tweed peaked cap, but he will choose that when we get back. He has managed to lose two of them in recent years.
So, I am making progress.

Heather wonderful picture of Bea. It just made me smile and wonderful she took the spider therapy. I can face lots of things but spiders make my legs wobbly and I have an ungodly fear of them. When I was young my bully cousin locked me in the root cellar and I got lots of spider bites. I was in there until mealtime when my folks realized I was missing.

Thank you Ginny 😊
Machka Love your honey pictures. I definitely taste the differences in my early or late year honeys that I purchase. I just bought 5 three pound jars ( sold by weight looks like a quart) They are $30 each. I go through one about a month. Cheaper than antihistamines. My house is cold for the honey though so it does tend to crystallize quickly. I try to plant for the health of bees. They ate hard workers.
Here's to a better day mentally and physically for all!

I forgot to post this here yesterday-
Wow, 28years have passed since I lost Lenny. it’s really hard to believe especially since he is always so fresh in my mind. I’m sure he would really be happy for me and how my life has turned out.
I have this framed saying in our bedroom wall:
Did I find you or did you find me, or were we given to each other.
I really feel he gave me kirby. Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes it takes time to realize what that is.8 -

Barbie - This one almost made me cry. You have a gift for making people feel as if you are writing directly to them. You add so much to all our lives by the fact that we know you're here... and I try to find your calm and tranquility in my life more often than you know. Thank you for that. Many happy returns of the day to Jake!
Allie - Glad you woke up rested, dear heart. Whatever it was you did to get there, keep doing it!
Advice - solicited and otherwise - What Ginny noted in her co-worker's bout with covid is what drives this comment, because that's my style of communication. Something I always try to offer is experience, rather than advice. (Which would be unsolicited advice about advice, since no one asked me... )
"When it happened to me, this is what I did..." rather than "you should" or "you shouldn't" helps to remove any feeling of judgment and allows folks to see it as a story, if they choose. Even if you say, "Well I would have..." it still can be taken as a judgment. I will admit that it leaves me at a loss when others are going through something I've never experienced, but I simply tell them that--I've not had that experience, but I can certainly offer my support.
Tracey - I'm in squirrel mode on crafting, too... This is where the internet is too much of a temptation. Tripped down a different rabbit hole, landing on clay millefiori and polymer-clay covered glass items. I resisted as long as I could, but ordered a reasonably-priced set of colored polymer clays... because good grief, I need another craft. Pottery class has a lot to answer for... and I probably need Lanette's sign on my wall... It is definitely a mental health thing for me... Hopefully good mental health.
Pip - I'm so glad Lenny gave you Kirby. You deserved that kind of love, and I'm glad he found you.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR5 -
This meme made me smile as I sipped my coffee today. Thanks, Lisa.
I'm slowly catching up with all of your wonderful posts. Meanwhile all is good here. Enjoying being outside with Mars the Leash Loving Cat during these spectacular fall days. Hugs to you all. Time to visit the gym.

Moving that out opened up quite a bit of room in storage, so I should be able to get the shelf units in there one by one and get them assembled and then filled. I'll need Corey's help on some of it that's just too heavy for me to shift, so as usual, I'll be winging it, figuring it out as I go along... More than one thing may go out to my trunk and off to the Goodwill.
