Morning ladies
Had to drop Alfie off early at the groomers,so stopped at Tracy's before they left for work and miss Josies
I gave Miles an early Christmas present its called Tonies ,its a box and you buy little figures that go on top and the figures tell a story.. I got Wild Kratts, Daniel Tiger
And carry bag for it all..
And he loves it..so When I stopped they were upstairs and I stopped and went up the stairs and he starts babbling away about wild coots ( wild kratts) he loves it all and then he wanted me to pick him up for hugs and kisses..( my favorite 😍) and then takes my hand hauls me to the bathroom closes the doorand sits on his potty and then flushes it lol
At least he is getting the hang on that ..
Kyle is taking apart Carmines room. Taking the bed down etc...
I said why,she will be back .
He just doesn't want to deal with it..
Which is sad.6 -

I waited all day yesterday for the electrician for smoke detectors, finally called and they said the appointment was today. Very annoying.

Annie - so did the dishwasher detergent get your dad's clothes clean when used as laundry soap? We talked about using Dawn in the washing machine a week or two ago in this thread. It just occurred to me that adding a bit of dishwashing detergent to the laundry now and then might help to clean my washer. Worth a try I think.
Hope the electrician arrives on time and gets the job done efficiently.

Interesting - my mother used to use dishwasher soap in super hot water to soak her flour sack dishcloths and other white items for a few hours before she put them in the washer. Most dishwasher soaps have bleach in them. I use dishwasher soap to clean the one enameled pan I've got, if things stick on it and cause stains, which they often do. An overnight soak with one pod of dishwasher soap and hot water, and the enamel looks like new.
I find myself being creatively domesticated these days. Creativity expresses itself in so many ways when allowed free rein...

I looked grenaille potatoes and it just means what we call 'new potatoes '. I think the variety must be 'La Ratte', by the look and taste of them. I have ordered ten tubers, to be delivered in December. You can plant them from February until May. I will grow them in a container, probably a large pot. Must consult YouTube.

1.Write down three things you can look forward to this month. 1. Another month of sobriety 2. Cooler weather 3. Decorating for Halloween15. Thank yourself for achieving the things you often take for granted. I got up in a thankful mood today so I should be able to do this. The eclipse yesterday couldn’t have gone better.
2. Find something to be optimistic about (even if it’s a difficult time). I am optimistic about cooler weather.
3. Take a small step to a goal that really matters to you. I need to call my uncle.
4. Start the day with the most important thing on your to-do-list. Updating this list and My Fitness Pal.
5. Be a realistic optimist. See life as it is but focus on what’s good. I usually hope for the best but prepare for the worst. I think this counts!
6. Remind yourself that things can change for the better. No matter how bad you think it is, it can always get worse. So enjoy life no matter where you are, or what you are doing, or your circumstances.
7. Look for the good in people around you today. I can do this if I try. This was not difficult to do with visitors. Employees were a different matter!
8. Make some progress on a project or task you’ve been avoiding. I need to clean the cabinets out. I am planning to start today. Didn’t happen.
9. Share an important goal with someone you trust. did not do this.
10. Take time to reflect on what you have accomplished recently. I have accomplished coloring pages, making doctor appointments, calming my nerves by taking some actions I never tried before, and more.
11. Avoid blaming yourself or others. Find a helpful way forward. This is hard for me.
12. Look out for positive news and reasons to be cheerful today. With everything going on around me and in me this will be hard, but I will pay attention to good news.
13. Ask for help to overcome an obstacle you are facing. The obstacles I have cannot be solved by me, but by family members.
14. Do something constructive to improve a difficult situation. I will have to think on this. I posted pictures of the eclipse that happened here on the Friends Group FB page, and sent some pics to my son and grandson.
16. Put down your to-list and do something fun or uplifting. I will color, walk, and meditate-all things that are fun and uplifting to me.
17. Take a small step toward a positive change you want to see in society. Teaching adults computer use provides a positive change in my community.18. Set hopeful, but realistic goals for the days ahead.
19. Identify one of your positive qualities that will be helpful in the future.
20. Find joy in tackling a task you’ve put off for some time.
21. Let go of the expectations of others and focus on what matters to you.
22. Share a hopeful quote, picture, or video with a friend or colleague
23. Recognize that you have a choice of what to prioritize.
24. Write down three specific things that have gone well recently.
25. You can’t do everything! What are three priorities right now?
26. Find a new prospective on a problem you face.
27. Be kind to yourself today. Remember progress takes time.
28. Ask yourself ‘will this still matter a year from now?’
29. Plan a fun or exciting activity to look forward to.
30. Identify three things that give you hope for the future.
31. Set a goal that brings a sense of purpose for the coming month.

M – I’ve experienced first hand how a doctor will “diagnose” something and it not being what they “diagnosed”. For example, many years ago I had a rash around my middle. I kept telling the MD that it was a heat rash. She insisted it was a food allergy. She prescribed prednisone. The next day we went camping where it was cooler. The rash went away. Don’t tell me it was a food allergy! Also, I KNEW something was wrong and I insisted on a BDT. She kept telling me “we don’t prescribe it for someone who hasn’t gone thru menopause”. I kept after her. Finally she prescribed the BDT, I think more to shut me up than anything else. Was she ever surprised that it came back that I had osteoporosis! I just question when the MD looks at you and “diagnoses” Vince hasn’t taken any more of the medicine. If it was truly a side effect of the “infection”, it would still be occurring. But it isn’t.
Idelia – welcome back! This is a great group. As a side note: my daughter graduated from Iowa State.
I wonder how katla is doing? Haven’t heard from her in a while
Walking: I just today was thinking “I wish we had more sidewalks”. That’s one of the things I like about FL, there are lots of sidewalks. I don’t like to walk in the street. Well, in my neighborhood I will because there isn’t much traffic. If you go out to eat in a French restaurant, you don’t get this massive portion. With it getting dark so early, it’s hard to walk after dinner. I used to like to do it since I feel a walk after dinner helped digest the food
No work tomorrow so I get to exercise! The plan is to do the stairstepper.
Margaret – thank you for the confirmation that trusting my instincts is most beneficial. I truly believe that we know ourselves better than any MD. Vince said he’s still achey, but not as achey as he was yesterday. I feel his body is healing itself, he insists on an antibiotic. Well, if it helps him mentally, then it’s certainly worth it.
Allie – love reading all about Miles. But it is so sad how Kyle is dealing with Carmine. Of course she’ll be back! And then she’ll feel like she isn’t wanted because her room is gone.
Off to take my walk around the block.
Later everyone.
Michele NC5 -
Lanette - It's called the 'French Paradox'! How they can be obsessed with food and still, on the whole stay slim. As Michele said, portions are sensible. The French don't snack. They eat socially, at a table, and take their time. They eat a lot of salad. They walk. Promenading is a big part of life. All ages out on the street. Of course, the weather helps. But they would walk up and down before a meal, and probably after, before stopping for a coffee. At home, the meals are probably more modest, but still served properly, and with style. Children are taught to behave in restaurants and eat anything..
When I used to go camping with my parents in the early 60s, I could not believe that they got out tablecloths, wine, bottles of Evian, even flowers, at the camping site. It was amazing to me. And they cooked properly, not the convenience food that my mother provided.
It is a culture that is still strong.
There was a scare a few years ago with childhood obesity increasing. Kids and fast food! The government made a concerted effort to reverse the trend, and it worked! All schoolchildren get a three course meal for lunch of good, healthy food. Salad, fruit etc. More exercise.
I was feeling very bloated after my meal. Should not have had dessert, which I rarely eat, but it was a special occasion. Oh well. I had a nap and then we went out for a walk in the rain. I didn’t feel too good, so I let DH walk on and I went back and sat under an umbrella at a café. Had a coffee, (espresso), and a glass of water. It started pouring, and DH joined me. We decided to visit the cathedral, and then made our way back.
Now recovering. Don't feel like eating yet!!

Heather - Sorry the rain set in just in time for your DH's birthday, but it is October... Not sure when you head home, but it appears there's rain for the next few days as well. Kind of fun checking the weather in France. Loved the birthday videos! And the picture of Johnnie and his daughter is absolutely wonderful. So pleased you took the trip, and it sounds like your French club meetings have paid off, as well. Lots of stories to tell on your return.
I've got my feet up, trying to get the pain to resolve somewhat. Haven't done much today, not sure what triggered it--possibly the hard chair (even with chair cushions) that I'm sitting on while I work on the piece I'm doing now. I might actually have to take a warm bath and try to get to feeling better. I don't take baths much, it makes me think I'm sitting in people soup. The pain is just annoying, but I've learned better than to "push through the pain." It doesn't work, just escalates. I do have my noon meds taken, hopefully they'll cut in soon.
Had such a hard time going to sleep last night, had an idea in hand for the glass vase that I'm working on doing some 3D work with polymer clay. The vividness of my own images was keeping me awake! Did, in the end, sleep nearly nine hours, which is has become a frequent miracle, but I still marvel. This morning, I've gotten a long way toward making the images from my head real. Should be interesting if it works. Then we'll have to see if it will actually bake onto the glass vase. It's at a stage now where I can start taking pictures, and I will.
Later, my dears,
Love y'all!

This is where you may need to step in and take charge. He may be smart and an adult, but if he is heading into dementia, his brain may not be operating the way it once did, and you'll need to be his brain.
In this case, the soap he uses probably doesn't matter but ...
You may have to show him what to use. You may need to hide the dishwashing soap and make the laundry detergent really visible. You may need to start labelling things.
That said, when I've been on long cycling tours, I would bring a small bottle of dish soap and use it for my dishes, laundry and sometimes me as well. Soap is soap.

On walking ...
This site has been around for a while and measures (to some degree) the walkability score of places in several countries. In other words, if you put your address in, it will tell you how good your area is for walking.
https://www.walkscore.com/
My place has a walk score of 53 out of 100, meaning that some things can be accomplished by walking.
Hobart, where I work, has a walk score of 92 our of 100!!
They've also ranked US and Canadian cities by their walkability ... with a walk score, transit score, and bike score.
https://www.walkscore.com/cities-and-neighborhoods/
So, I walk to the bus and home again from the bus every day. That's 0.8 km.
Then, at lunch, I walk around Hobart. Walking is probably the most efficient way to run errands in the city. Plus I can walk further if I'm out for a recreational walk.
Strava (app that tracks exercise) has a monthly challenge to walk 50 km/month ... and I aim to do that.

Machka ... my home has a walk score of zero!! This undoubtedly contributes to my weight issues. When I was growing up, I lived in a neighborhood where we walked to school and to a small grocery store or to the bus stop. I used to walk a couple of miles to work with no problem. I was skinny then.
Lisa ... "people soup" ...
Heather ... Happy Birthday to Johnnie!

Good evening, ladies.
Just got on here and reading through the many posts.
Tracey so sorry to read about your cousin’s family. Hopefully everyone makes a full recovery. Every year there seem to be accidents with atv and side by sides. We each have an atv but just ride them on our property mainly for farm purposes but occasionally for enjoyment. Hope you find out what is causing your vertigo. I experienced that condition a few years ago and it ended up being from a cholesterol lowering drug. Stopped the drug and vertigo went away. I take synthroid for hashimoto’s and if I am on the correct dosage, my cholesterol levels are fine.
Allie dismantling Carmine’s bedroom is just so sad.
Heather enjoying your pics. Looks like a wonderful holiday.
Well, the floor sanding is now complete. Lots of sanding….lots of dust. DH and I worked very well together. Picked up the sander on Monday and started sanding at about 12:30 and finished at 6:00 in the evening. We took turns on the machine. Had a shop vac in the living room so one was sanding and one was vacuuming. Took the machine back this morning and we hand sanded all the areas close to the walls that we couldn’t get with the sander. Tomorrow morning I’m going to damp mop the floor and run a damp cloth over all the baseboards before applying the polyurethane. Hopefully will be able to get two coats on and then the last coat on Thursday. Have to wait 3 days until we can move the furniture back in….so probably Sunday.
This was a big project and I will be glad when it is done. I think I will like the end result with the oak boards left unstained and just with the clear coat. Next week will be wall washing time!

Walking-Great topic of the day Lanette! When I was going for physical therapy after my second hop replacement the therapist asked my goal. I told him I wanted to get back to being able to do and hour long walk. He looked at me and said "Why would anyone want to do that?" I looked at him and said "Why would you not want to?" I figure I can't do many of the things I did when younger, but walking is free and overall good exercise. My neighborhood has a walk score of 46, but I am not surprised since it is basically a 1950s suburb. While it is a 12 minute drive to work and there aren't a lot of stores nearby-there are lots of sidewalks so I can walk all I want. I have 2, 3, 4, and 5 mile walks mapped out and can change them up.
Annie-I think it's great your Dad is trying to do laundry. Maybe just gently let him know that the new detergent you have does a bit better job. Maybe tell him it's what mom always told you to use and she likes the other for dishes.
Heather-what a beautiful picture of Johnnie and daughter. And the three of you look do happy at dinner. Glad you were able to take the trip for his birthday. And I couldn't figure out the picture of the candles. No offense meant-but you don't strike me as the overly religious person but then the St. Rita explanation made so much sense and was so nice.
Allie-hugs to you. So sad to take a room apart.
Trusting doctors-I have trusted a good many doctors, but I do know my own body and when something is wrong. If one doesn't listen to me I will look for new one.
The good news is the gentleman came and my tv has been repaired and seems to be better than new. I did help him a bit with lifting and moving. With the size of the tv it was a bit awkward for him (he was fairly short-probably not even 5'. But he was polite, efficient but not rushed. Am doing his ratings and will score him highly.
Get hair cut tomorrow and may stop and get some bloodwork done after an early afternoon meeting. I have to time this particular blood test in between taking two of my thyroid doses and the lab is just a few minutes from meeting location and on my way home so I will finish work up at home tomorrow.
Take care all,
