My plan had been to do a tempo run before work today. I did get up early enough to do the planned run, but had forgotten I needed to feed the neighbor's animals. I also needed to go see mom for a few minutes and when I got back, Tippy ran into a plant and knocked it over, so I had to clean that up. By then, I only had 1.5 hours left before needing to leave for work/errands and I hadn't eaten my normal breakfast yet. So, I punted and shortened the run. I counted my warm up and cool down walks as the Zone one part of the work out. I then ran 5/12/3:05 min at 4.5/5.0/4.5 mph pace. Was supposed to do 5/5/15/5/5 min at 4.2/4.5/5.0/4.5/4.2. As it was, I finished at just the right time and didn't have to rush too much to get a shower, eat, and leave. I was pleased with what I did.7 -
Morning everyone!
Got in another 6K (09"18).
Gonna use this week to try and get some kind of routine and health-IER eating (from a very low bar!)... Before wife+kids turn up on Sat7 -
Was yet out of the running due to reflux from hell. Not a good idea to exercise when there's the risk of getting stomach acid into your airways. Meh!
01.10 Sun x°C 0.0km 00min 0:00/km horizontal rain
02.10 Mon x°C 0.0km 00min 0:00/km not at home
03.10 Tue x°C 0.0km 00min 0:00/km horizontal rain
04.10 Wed 15°C 4.0km 34min 8:25/km
08.10 Sun 15°C 3.1km 25min 8:15/km
17.10 Tue 8°C 1.2km 10min 8:14/km
9.24km/80.5km
Tried it again today but I'm not sure yet whether I'm fine. The run was at least very nice. Kept it short though.7 -
You're doing much better with the exercise than you thought you would @tarun_yadavA .
@yirara Sorry you are having stomach issues. I've had serious acid reflux before and it can be so painful. I hope it gets better soon. Are you taking anything for it?

Thanks a lot @quilteryoyo I only ever feel reflux around my vocal chords, throat, mouth and nose. And in my airways if I exercise or speak a lot. Not much helps, really. PPI and antacids do next to nothing. Thus I have to be very careful, not exercise, not speak too much. I think I'm fine again2 -

It was cold this morning at 42°F. At least that is cold for me. I wore a t-shirt with my sleeves and capri length pants and gloves. I usually wear shorts unless it is below 45°F, and even then I often wear shorts. If it had been sunny I probably would have, but since it was dark I wore the pants and I was pretty comfortable. My gloves are actually mittens that open up to fingerless gloves. I did open and close them several times, but I kept my sleeves on the whole time. Other than being the first real cold run of the year, the run was pretty uneventful. It was a pretty morning and the stars were bright so I enjoyed running and got 6.25 miles done before I had to go home and get ready for work.

@tarun_yadavA that's absolutely terrific that you found a place around the compound which you could get some miles in. I am especially thrilled to see you reining back some of the outrageous food and drink which seems to happen when you travel. You struggled SO much this year to get back to exactly where you wanted to be and it would be nice if when you get home you don't have to be a monk again. However I can see you are an all or nothing type. 🤷♀️🙃😳🤣💖 We each have a method to our madness maybe
@kgirlhart it was chilly this am but not as much as yesterday since the wind had died down. Mid 40's here and the only thing I contemplated a little bit was perhaps I should have opened a hand warmer into my gloves or worn mittens as my fingers did get a little chilled.
Yesterday I ran in my oldest pair of Nikes which so far had been holding the line as far as shin splints. Maybe it was the colder weather which effected the cushion or maybe they just hit their expiration but sometime early yesterday afternoon my shin splint reared up ugly. 🥹😳 So I had to trash them. 😞 I hate that and need to find a younger twin to donate these 6.5 women shoes to because they really still look perfectly wonderful.
This morning I wasn't sure if I would have pain or not but I put on one of my newest pairs of shoes and altho it hurt to start it did not seem to be getting worse and I ended up running a 10K. Perhaps I should take it as a sign I need another pair of shoes... (not really) The Puma shoes were fun and I think I am going to wait for Nike to refresh some of their racing styles again before going back there.
I am at 107 out of 100 goal and currently avg about 10k per day which is a lot for me. I don't think I will make 200 miles for the month but it will be probably my best one month of the year.
Looked at the forecast for the weekend and it seems like it might be warming back up again. Not going to be great for racing in that respect.
@quilteryoyo you are actually doing really well and I think your mileage is almost double that of last year. Sometimes you have to punt and pivot to the plan. It's sort of why I never really HAVE a plan until I start out. Mostly I am just glad to get out the door and past the first mile without giving up.

Didn't trust myself to run easy outside, so jumped on the TM for 5 easy miles 😄

I'm glad you are feeling better @yirara . I have found when I have a particularly bad episode, just drinking water calms it down. Weird, but it does. But, mine doesn't happen very often, thankfully.
Nice run @kgirlhart . I'm sure I would wear longer pants in those temps too. Glad it was a good one for you.
You are doing great @SummerSkier . I bet you could find a charity, or maybe even a local school that would take those shoes off your hands. I know around here a lot of the schools have shoes and essential clothes on hand for kids who don't have any. Thanks for your comment about my running. I have been thinking about my plan. I really like to have one to give me an idea as to what different types of runs I can/should do and distances, etc. But, I need to just use it more as a guide and not be tied to it too much. That is what I do anyway, but I feel "bad" (not exactly the right word) when I don't follow the schedule. So, guide it is.
@Scott6255 Treadmills ARE good for that.3 -

My mom, neighbor, and I went to a semi-local orchard this morning to buy some fresh apples and other items they have there. We had lunch out before coming home. I was tired, so took a nap and then did my run on the treadmill.
I did a recovery run, keeping my HR under 130 bpm as best as I could. I did pretty good for the first 20 min, but then went over, even with more walking. I ran at 4.2 mph and walked at 3.8 mph until my HR went down to 120 or so. Most of the time, that was one min of walking. My pace, therefore, was really slow - 14:40 min/mile. Guess that is to be expected on a recovery run.5 -
Morning everyone!
Got in 4.5M today (09"18).
As always - thanks @quilteryoyo and @SummerSkier for your kind words and encouragement 😊 ... And yes, you're right. So far: 4 runs (+1 gym elliptical) /7 days is better than what I hoped.
I'm going to run with someone local here tomorrow. So that should be good. Better than monotonous laps!
bON, RE: food...Well... As you may already know from me... When I travel (well, working this week!), I like to take in the local food+drink and culture as much as possible. Eat and drink like locals would. I'm a poor man's Anthony Bourdain tribute act. So yesterday night, after finishing work around 9.30/10... came across this guy...
Food truck. Smelt amazing. It's called a 'Kathi roll'. Kinda like a Mexican tlayuda but with a beaten egg cooked into it one side... And then they fill it up with grilled meat and onions and chillies and chilli sauce.
Soooo good
This one was a 'single egg, double mutton'. Sooo good.
I've been lucky with no 'Delhi Belly'! Worried a bit about the kids though... Eldest is especially keen to try street food. Youngest is more into what I would call 'Glocal' fusion cuisine... ie, he wants to see what McDonalds India and KFC India have to offer. Apparently KFC India has thing called a 'biryani bucket', where it's a bucket of chicken fried rice, topped with popcorn chicken and comes with various curry type dips (glocal sub for gravy I guess?).
Oh, and add to the calories... tea is huge here. Or chai even. But it's these multiple cups of milky sugary sweet tea that's laced with subtle flavours... Ginger cinnamon etc.
And then they have it with things... Sometimes fried and savoury, rather than say cookies or cake. My favourite is thing called a 'pakora'. It's basically a deep fried fritter. And you can stick allsorts of veggies in it. Onions are common. My favourite is this one called 'Paneer' - which is a type of Indian cheese.
So the end result is something kinda like a spicy Culvers Cheese curds or Mozzarella sticks but with a different batter and spiced obviously.
'paneer pakora'
Side side note-
Asked why do Starbucks and other coffee places call it 'Chai Tea'? Chai = Tea. People in the west are literally saying Tea Tea. 😂
PS: @quilteryoyo how were the apples?4 -

Tea if by sea, Chai if by land. Silk road=Chai, British East India Co.=Tea.
@tarun_yadavA I am so happy you are writing these posts and pictures. it is absolutely the best part of MFP right now. Yes, you can veer off if Delhi belly hits, we all get that, but running and eating and having family doing their thing with you in India is remarkable. Thanks again for the posting.

@tarun_yadavA you are making my mouth water with all this talk of wonderful Indian food and the photos! I thoroughly enjoy Indian food and have tried my hand at making many Indian dishes and foods over the year, including making my own paneer, pakoras, samosas, poori and so much more.
Thank you for sharing!

I went for a short walk this morning and then sat in the cold water for a couple minutes. It was actually cold this time. Only problem with that was the squash... I had covered as much as I could the past 2 nights with old sheets, and unfortunately you can tell which sections weren't covered. A good bit of the plants got frosted. The rest are wonky due to having a blanket on top of them. I expect most of it to die off soon, but am leaving the squash on the vines as long as possible/as long as they appear to have any life left in them. Going to keep covering them on nights when it will go below 0°. The initial 2 squash should be good to harvest, and most of the others look pretty iffy.My head feels like there's a blender inside of it though. Yesterday was bad. Today's a little better, not much. 🤯 I promise I'm fighting to not fall into despair and depression but it's pretty tough right now. It's been a year since I quit running, but back then I still had a list of treatments and doctors to work through, and was hopeful I'd find one that would help. Today I managed laundry and heated up the "green borscht" I made yesterday. I sat upright for a while braiding t-shirt strips to later turn into a placemat or something. And I showered and got dressed, because I was under the delusion that I would be able to go to Bible study at church. My headache and dizziness decided otherwise. I can read a little in bed.
Foot for scale, haha. These 2 are pretty green though.6 -
@tarun_yadavA I also love experiencing a city through it's food scene. Kathi rolls and paneer are both amazing! Palak paneer is probably my husband's favorite Indian dish. A paneer pakora sounds heavenly! 😂 Chai tea! Right up there with naan bread.2
