Changing of the clocks is another one of those times that can signal a new beginning to goals and resolutions and plans. It is another time to see a clean slate. At our house we have a new puppy and it is a time for great learning for all of us and the changing of routines for me.
Doing new things with the support of an encouraging community has worked for me before and I expect it will work for me again with this new challenge.

Thank you Barbie!. We appreciate you!
This is the month for my bilateral knee replacements! I am so beyond ready. While recovery will be tough, I will be thrilled to be able to walk again.

Thanks Barbie for starting us off for November.👍🏼💖.
Until the time change this weekend, husband admitted this morning that he won't be driving in the morning to the gym. He said its just too dark, and on base everyone is wearing black uniforms/jackets, and he is afraid he's gonna hit someone! Not great lighting either. Being that his job in the Navy was in CIC (combat information center) and he was staring at radar screens in the dark, his night vision isn't what it used to be. Over stressing his vision most likely. So I am relieved and also surprised he admitted that to me, and was open about it.
Chatted with husband about Christmas. All I want to be doing is boxes for the Navy sons, a box for grandkids and middle son and wife, a box of nice cards for family, and a family letter this year. Husband and I won't be exchanging gifts. Maybe some treats here and there. Its kind of liberating. 💖
We won't be having family home for Christmas, middle son said that they (meaning wife) are visiting her family in California for Thanksgiving, then spending Christmas at home being its baby's first Christmas. That makes sense. The fact that she had her Mom a month and a half from mid August to end of September, yet needs to travel down in November seems weird. They have yet to visit here, and we've been here 5 years, but I don't say anything. So driving down to CA takes almost 8 hrs, (10 hours because they have to stop to eat, walk the dogs etc), but 4 hours to drive here. It is what it is.🙄💖. They might come up here in February, when Navy brothers have leave. Course I only have the one extra bed, so they have to bring their air mattress, and what Athena could sleep on. Eli has his playcrib. It should be interesting. I think my daughter in law has her maternity leave end in February though. So not sure if they can come up. We might have to drive down to visit them. The Navy sons can help rental a car, plus help pay for hotel, and of course Athena loves swimming at the pool there.💖😁
Can't believe its November already!

Kylia-you can pick up strips at any drug store/pharmacy location. You can also oder off Amazon. Find them with women's health area typically. Azo is big brand name, but most stores also have their own. And it was spitting snow over during my walk-stronger flurries now.
Heather-glad you have figured out visit.
Lisa-I did get a chuckle out of your VW heater-not because you are cold-when I was in college (back in the 770's) he VW Beetles were notorious for heaters going out! Yourstory brought back an image from a college parking lot and us cursing the cold! Congrats on new car!!!!! I love the color,
Lanette-thanks for the weather! What a pal!
Annie-resisting candy was not my strong suit today-but think I got it out of my system.
Margaret-how scary. You are right-we should never assume someone else will call. We also need to stay alert.
Machka-I know people who lease like that-they always want to have a new car.
Okie-I bet the bilateral will be tough-but it will all be over. My hips were done one at a time (1 1/2 years in between). I know some people who have had both done at once.
Busy day-tired after meetings-they take a lot of energy on my part. Came home, got internet issue settled. New service I was testing cancelled. Received email for return of equipment. Will take to UPS store Friday at lunch time. Old service still here-got price reduced to match Spectrum (it's almost like they knew I had a spectrum tab open on computer). So-will leave as is. I have an email address through ATT that many folks have and I don't know if I would lose that if I cancel the internet and email. I am working on transitioning away from it (it is actually an old Yahoo) and I get so much spam/junk from it. Maybe this will motivate me to follow up on cleaning up and separating email accounts before I move.
Need to go get kitchen cleaned up-it is a wreck. Had a good walk. Ate dinenr and caught up with you all.
Take care all,

Thank you Barbie, Happy November to all and sundry,
Debbie - So sorry you had a bad time with your car dealer.
Carol - Thanks! I've never had a red vehicle before. It's kind of cool... And it's a great size for us short people. Don't have to jump up to get in it. Enjoyed the drive home, not least because the heater's working.
Allie - You do you, girl, that was just my experience with a car lease. My only choice was to give it back to the dealer at the end of the year or pay a huge balloon payment to keep it. There may well be better options now.
Okie - Looks like Hee Haw to me! Wasn't the blonde's name Gunilla Hutton? I think she played "Nurse Goodbody." Love the look... Hope the surgeries are successful, and the recovery is swift and pain-free.
Heather - So glad you've got the antibiotics. I may have to get some of those UTI strips. I've been lucky that I've had so few these last couple of years. That change in mood and mien from an infection that's nowhere near your brain in the geographical sense is just terrifying.
Ginny - That dang heater was the first glitchy thing with the VW Passat too! When Levi was born and we drove up to Kansas in early January, I froze to death on the passenger side, there was just no way to get any heat to my feet ever. Our winters are generally mild, and we did few long trips in the winter, so it wasn't a big deal until it just gave up completely. Glad you got the internet supplier sorted.
I have to go in tomorrow and get a full set of lab tests done, my annual meeting with my doc is Friday. Busy week this week, as I'm supposed to be at the pottery classroom as well on Thursday. Busy week for me!
Quick comment on goals:
✅Be lighter - Trying to gently get back down under 150 to get back to 145-150 maintenance weight. Was at 154.8 on Oct. 1, and 153 this morning, so I'll take that as a win.
✖️Stick to budget - Not even close. Might as well have taken that budget outside and set it on fire. I have to redo our budget anyway to accommodate a car payment.
✅Be healthy - I continue to feel better, it's slow and incremental, but I do feel better all the time.
Here we go my dearlings, as we make our way together into the dark of the year, it's the best time of all to let your lights shine.
Love y'all,

In Australia, we hand out 0 candy. It's not popular.
In my entire adult life, I don't think I've handed out more than about 50 bags of candy in total.

Machka - I think it depends on the woman as to whether she offers to help with the finishing touches of a meal. I do it and a lot of my friends do as well. However, my eldest daughter never offers or just does it on her own, but if given a specific task she does it with no complaint. She was raised the same as my youngest who just knows what to do and offers.
Our eldest daughter was diagnosed with ADHD a couple years ago and I think that some of her reluctance to jump in comes from that. If we had known what we know now we probably could have prepared her better for life.
Barbara - it makes us feel so special when our hubby’s do something because they know we would like it. Glad you felt 19 again.
Terri - I so enjoy reading about your activities and daily life. I think staying busy with groups and our families helps keep us young.
I am keeping my friends dog tomorrow night. I just got the hair cleaned up from our daughter’s dog we kept for a week on Friday. This dog is adorable and sweet, but I find him too needy in the petting department.
Heather - I’m so glad you are getting some medication for your UTI. Some things just require a visit and meds.
Hope you feel better fast.
I didn’t post this last night, I went to bed early.
Lisa and Allie - I love driving a SUV, I don’t know that I would ever go back to a car.
Lanette - my cousin used to say it didn’t matter the size or breed of a dog, just the barking was a deterrent. Good on Rosie for doing her job.
Margaret - you are so observant and notice the small things. Good for you calling 911.
There have been years we haven’t had a vehicle, years that we only had one and years where we’ve had two. Nowadays the two is a necessity. DH and I work in different areas at overlapping times. I mean right now I don’t need one, as he’s working nights and I’m home but I’m not selling it when I know I’ll need it in just a few months.
Heather - when I worked at the home any time a resident started acting differently than their normal behaviour they tested for UTI.
Allie - Miles is adorable in his Halloween costume
Vicki - funnily enough, DH had to shave today to wear a respirator at work tonight. I’ll take the wins where I can get them.
Lanette - we have two big bins of wood pieces I’m going to try to craft with.
Machka - those pages look like kaleidoscopes. I saw a thing on tv last night that was a kaleidoscope screen saver type thing on a show. It made me want to go buy one. I just loved them.
I know I’ve missed some things but know I’ve thought of you all.
Barbie, thank you as always for a new month. This year has just flown by.
I signed up for three craft shows for this year. I was hoping to get one for this weekend but that’s not happening. DH’s pay was a lot smaller than expected this week. The summer/winter switch over occurred over one pay period instead of two like it usually does so instead of being short 20 hours it was short 40. Plus he took the last day off of summer because he thought he had one personal day to use, but they had used it when his Dad passed and he had forgotten. It will be a very tight two weeks.
Oh well… it happens.
I’m off to bed.

How do bachelors do this? Is it because we took control of our kitchens and they just stood back and let us? My cousin and I had this conversation while she was here. We decided we just stepped up and never demanded anything of them.
Tracey in Edmonton
I never took control of the kitchen wither either of my marriages. I left the kitchen up to my husbands and try to avoid kitchens in general. The only time I took control of the kitchen was when I was on my own.
It occurred to me recently that I wouldn't have the faintest idea what to do if we visited someone and if I did the traditional woman thing of offering to help with the finishing touches on a meal in the kitchen. Do women still do that??

Regarding helping the host with dinner prep ... I never learned to cook, so if I wandered into the kitchen of someone who did know how to cook, and if that person told me to do something, I'd be lost. That person would have to show me what to do. Even grating cheese or something, I'd probably run my fingers into the grater and need bandaging.
So the reason I don't volunteer is that I would be too embarrassed.
I can sort of assemble food and I've figured out how to make a few things to my taste. Given time, I can bake but even with that, I am too self-conscious to serve what I've baked to anyone other than my husband, because although what I make tastes all right, it's usually not pretty. Oh, except for pavlova. I have actually made and served a pavlova to another couple ... once.
You're right, the pages do like kaleidoscopes. I've enjoyed colouring them.

Happy November to all.
Thank you Barbie!
The wind is getting up, and the next two days are going to be rough. We are expecting rain, and winds of up to 80 mph. I hope our tv aerial stays up. Definitely not going anywhere, except that Max is scheduled to come over on Thursday to hang out. Last evening, I told him he needed a sou'wester. Had fun explaining and finding pictures on Google.
Phoned G while Bea was climbing in the park. She was worried about me, so I was able to reassure her. Phew! She has had a lot of mental illness and she was worried I was going down.
We are all meeting up next week, with B flying down from Glasgow. I'm only doing one night, for my patience's sake. And my wallet. We are all at the same hotel, apart from G who lives there. I have a nice, sea-view room. The others are all going to the Historic Dockyard, before i arrive, because I have been 2 or 3 times. We are booked in for a French-style dinner in town. I think I will have to raid my dwindling savings.
G does car leasing, and has just got a brand new car. She drives a huge amount. It's pricey.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx6 -
Oops, the storm is beginning!
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx3 -
Heather - I just checked your weather. ICK! Looks like a couple days of sustained winds at least 30 MPH with much higher gusts. Is this normal fall/winter weather for the UK? By the way, if you mention at some point you think you might be getting a UTI, you can guarantee we'll be dropping broad hints about testing, lol. I bet you'll be right on it.
Tracey - when I picked up the wood pieces yesterday, the manager told me no one seems interested in them until the fall when the weather starts to turn then they realize they need firewood, but I immediately thought what a treasure trove for crafters, never mind firewood. Maybe the crafters got some really nice pieces in the summer.
Okie - I could tell right away you were Ellie Mae. You hang around with a fun bunch! Good luck on the knee replacements. I'm sure you'll be glad to get this done.
Rebecca - good for Lee deciding not to drive when it's dark anymore. Smart move. My walking neighbor told me about a mini vacation they went on a few weeks ago, decided to drive their motor home in the dark. Her DH's vision is poor and they were on 2-lane Hwy 12 over the pass. He was weaving a lot and often crossing the center line and swerving into the fog line. YIKES. They got stopped by a state trooper who thought he must have been drunk. That right there's another reason I curtail my own driving after dark - too many OTHER old people in the road, lol.
Karen - Hope everything is going well at your end and your grands, brother, and spouse are doing well. I think you were in the process of selling a house and that was going to be a big job. You've had a lot of changes in your life the past couple years with the move to the fun and interesting new residence, your spouse's health, re-connecting with your brother.
I was up WAY too early, am working on my budget and the grocery list for this morning.
Have a great day, ladies.

Okie Loved the costume...Looked like you were having a great time!
Had about 50 for trick or treat. I was about the only one on our block handing out treats. It was all people driving in with cars. It was cold last night. I only did it between 6-8 and bought 90 pieces of candy. I figured the time or the amount of candy was the limit. If I do this next year I will do it the same way. Much better than past years where I went from 6-9 and over 100 sometimes.
From Facebook...Loved this...Great way to start the day! HAPPY PILLS!

Good morning ladies!
Thank you Barbie!
Margaret I love those Happy pills! So cute and so true!
Lisa congratulations on your new ride! I have a subcompact SUV, a Kia Soul. Much easier to drive and park, because it's smaller, and yet tall enough to see out. There is some flipping risk with a tall car but I don't drive like that anymore.
Heather glad you are feeling better. Stay safe indoors!
Pip so proud of you and your training!
We have several pounds of cheap candy leftovers. I let my Dad hand it out while I stayed upstairs with Teddy. My little dog barks wildly every time the front door opens. He gets underfoot and often dashes out onto the porch. I really ought to train him better, but it's easier to keep him upstairs.
It's a pretty day but chilly. Another trip to see Mom in rehab today. I only missed two days out of five weeks. She was unhappy yesterday but she waited for me instead of asking the staff for help. Her memory is so poor she is lucky she isn't in a memory care facility. We rely on her roommate to tell us what is going on. We have a meeting Friday and hopefully will get a discharge date then.

Machka - Love the coloring patterns! I loved kaleidoscopes so much as a child and was so fascinated by how they changed. As an adult, I've always been attracted to mandalas, especially the hugely colorful ones. I like the symbolism of them, as well: "A mandala is a symbol of the universe in its ideal form, and its creation signifies the transformation of a universe of suffering into one of joy." How apt for our current world. Also, as someone who cooked professionally and personally for more than three decades, I would much rather get help with the dishes after the meal than have someone help me with the cooking. It's a good excuse to give them if someone says, "Would you like to help?" just tell them you're useless as a cook, but more than happy to do the dishes...
Allie - It's always good to sleep on those kinds of large decisions. Mine in buying the Kicks may have seemed impulsive, but we discussed for about a year whether to buy a vehicle, which vehicle type to buy, and so on. I was ready to pull the trigger on it, so I discussed it one last time with Corey on his call to say good morning at 8 a.m. yesterday. First time I've shopped for a vehicle by myself since I was single, more than 40 years ago! He loved it that he didn't have to shop for a vehicle, he just let me do that and brought one that I thought was a good idea to him to look it over. If I wasn't married to him, I would take it to a mechanic anyway... I will admit that, as Tracey says, I don't think I'll go back to a car again. SUVs, even the smallest ones, give you better visibility in traffic, they're more comfortable, and you don't have to worry if things don't fit in your trunk.
Margaret - Those happy pills are hilarious.
Rebecca - I'm waiting until sunrise to go in and get my lab tests done, because of my aversion to driving in the dark. Well done to Lee for recognizing it's an issue for him.
And, speaking of which, the land is brighter than it was and I can get on my way. It's only 22 degrees here, there's frost all over the grass, and I will be wearing my big heavy coat! Will probably stop at Walmart on the way back. Time to get moving!
Later y'all,
Love from the frosty River Valley of Arkansas

Thx, I haven’t trained nearly as much as I should’ve. Kirby on the other hand has. Since he’s not doing the MS ride, he’s been running a lot longer while I was still riding. I’ll be happy if I can finish it in 2-1/2 hours. (Usually finish in about 2 hours). Since I’ll be carrying the backpack, I’m going to weigh it today to see how much extra weight I’ll be carrying. If I finish in 2-1/2 hours that will be about an 11.26min mi. I usually do about a 9.40 min mi but that’s with good training and no backpack. We will see6 -
Happy November friends. I have been working hard and lost nearly 30 pounds so far. I still have a long way to go but I am sticking to the plan. I had my knee repair surgery last week and it has really been rough. I am completely non weight bearing and stuck on the couch for on 2 months. I was worried About eating too much but it - turns out that the pain meds make me so sick that I can't eat. I normally weigh in once a week but will not be able to do it for at least six weeks while I am in this giant ankle- to- thigh immobilizer. I just hope that when I do weigh in I will see a big loss. I am having to go up and down my stairs on my bottom several times a day. It definitely counts as exercise. Just wanted to say hello and request support to stay the course throughout this recovery.
