My mom has a discharge date! 18 November. That's when the fun begins!
Thank you, Kim and KJ and others for your thoughts on the monitors. I'm still considering the options.

Karen - so very sorry about your brother. Loved his artwork.
KJ - one year we had a Halloween blizzard in Sioux Falls. No one made it out to trick or treat. Good to see you posting.
Cloudy and in the 50s here. Planning to get groceries this afternoon. Have my menus done for the week and list made.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA3 -
Zentangles-
I'm probably late to the party - I believe one or more of you have mentioned Zentangles - Machka maybe? Rita? I just talked to my next door neighbor who said she does these every morning. They are very calming, help relieve her stress. I remember doing something like this when I was in high school. Here are a few videos:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4WEXnpN2Sw

Joy - I bet your pie crust will be just fine. Good job baking the pumpkin.
Annie - it's good that you now have a date for your mom coming home and gives you time to prepare.
The culvert replacement is done. Interesting watching them remove the old rusted pipe and putting in a brand new heavy duty poly pipe that should last as long as I live here...another 25 years? Who knows, lol.
I walked down the road several times this morning to check the progress and got to meet up and chat with several of my neighbors, which is always a treat.

Would not have been me. I don't know what zentangles are. First thing that leapt to my mind was my spray in conditioner to help me untangle my hair!
When it comes to colouring, I actually prefer colouring "real" things rather than just patterns. The patterns are OK sometimes, but I get bored with them fairly quickly.

Karen, My sympathy to you on the loss of your brother. He was quite a talented artist. I had just joined the group around the time you were working so diligently to have him leave his group home and live independently. Something that with your effort he was able to do.

Katherine: Welcome, Great that you were able to lose so much with WW. I joined for 6 months but have only lost a few pounds. Everyday I am over the point limit by a little bit but it really makes a difference.
Heather: Good luck with the geraniums! I hope the antibiotics work and you feel better!
KJLamore: During COVID my gas expenses really dropped. Now I am filling up 2x a month.
Lisa: Glad you got a good medical report.
RVRita: Sorry about the flare up of colitis.
Annie: So November 18 is your Mom's d/c date. I hope you are able to do something specific for yourself between now and then. Because respite might not be so easy once your Mom is home.
I don't know if your Dad can stay by himself. My son came in April 2021 and stayed with my husband for an evening and a night. I went to a Bed and Breakfast right in town and had a friend join me for breakfast there the next morning. After my husband passed I did the same thing again.
The boil advisory is still on. One of the samples came back inconclusive so they are re-testing. I am still doing the dishes in the dishwasher. I didn't purchase any water today. I will tomorrow. So I am having to boil water to give to the puppies. This afternoon I was able to stop and listen to an audio book for awhile. This gave me the feeling I was accomplishing something rather than going from one chore to the next chore.
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia

Hi Gals,
Allie – that insurance number doesn’t surprise me, but knowing the car payment and the insurance, is good knowledge. I don’t know in Connecticut but in CA our yearly registration (tags) is based on how much you spend, on my 2006 car the registration cost me almost $200. You may want to check on that number too.
I remember there was a conversation about folks who were personal trainers in their past, this question is to you all. I got a bone density test done, and to read the email the sky was falling, but when I looked at the actual results it is barely below normal for my age in 2 measurments and in the middle normal range on the 3rd. I sorta think these emails are computer generated. So my question – Is swimming laps good for bone health? I am struggling to find time for exercise in my life, and cut out a few things to add in swimming 64 laps (about 1 mile) 2 times a week. Which I like enough to keep it up even though that is a 6 hour commitment each week (drive, check in, swim, shower, drive) And honestly there are very few exercises I like – this is also free it is part of my new insurance. So I am wondering if it counts as both aerobic and bone health.
Love ya all,

Is swimming laps good for bone health? No, sorry.
The best exercises for your bones are weight bearing, and especially impact weight bearing exercises.
The best exercises for your bones
September 12, 2023
https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/the-best-exercises-for-your-bones
All exercises for bone strength have one or more of the following attributes:
Provide resistance. In these forms of exercise, you challenge your muscles by working against some type of resistance, such as dumbbells, elastic bands, or even your own body weight. Resistance exercises, including classic strength training, rely on muscle contractions that tug on bones to stimulate them to bulk up.
Weight-bearing. Weight-bearing exercise is any activity, such as running, walking, dancing, hiking, climbing stairs, or playing tennis, golf, or basketball, in which you carry your body weight and work against gravity. This contrasts with non-weight-bearing activities such as swimming or cycling, where the water or bicycle supports your body weight. The force you exert to counteract gravity when you do weight-bearing activities is what stimulates bones to get stronger.
Provide impact. When you land a jump or pound the ground with each step as you run, you multiply the weight-bearing effect of gravity. That's why higher-impact activities generally have a more pronounced effect on bone than lower-impact exercises.
Higher velocity. Impact can be increased even more as your speed increases. For example, jogging or fast-paced aerobics will do more to strengthen your bones than a leisurely stroll or slow calisthenics exercises.
Involve sudden changes of direction. Changing direction while you're moving also appears to benefit bones. When researchers reviewed bone strength in the hips of a variety of athletes, they found that those who played sports such as soccer and squash, which involve rapid turns and start-and-stop actions, had bone strength similar to those who did high-impact sports, like triple jumpers and high jumpers—and they all had greater bone density than long-distance runners.
Improve balance. Exercises that target balance may not be the best for building bone, but they will help keep you from falling, so they also serve a bone-protecting function.
Unfortunately, like swimming, cycling is not good for bones, and cyclists who focus solely on cycling have issues with their bone density. Knowing that, I added walking, running and weightlifting into my routine.

Kim - swimming does provide resistance due to the resistance of the water as you move through it. You work against bouancy rather than gravity. You can increase the resistance by moving faster or using fins or hand paddles. Changes of direction are done at the ends of the pool and impact is provided by pushing off the side. It is much easier on joints. I have worked in aquatics for most of my life and swam as exercise, and I have had no bone issues. Balance however can be an issue which I remedied with horseback riding. My advice is keep swimming, the best exercise is one you enjoy and will do.

Rosemarie- I didn’t know water would have an expiration date either.
I need to get some shopping done. I have a little bit but I have 7 people in my family. My stuff for NB is done, I sent it all a couple weeks ago with my daughter. Just my Mom left, I think a pretty card and then I’m not sure. I’ll have to contact the nursing home.
Lanette - when we first moved here we didn’t have a washer and dryer, I used the laundromat and loved it. Everything got done faster, they had a high table for folding, and I had alone time to read.
My mother hung her clothes out on a clothesline year round, for most of my life living at home. Her hands would crack and bleed in the winter from the cold. She also helped the men stack wood and ran the wood splitter.
Mom had a terrible time with her weight though always. I understand it more now.
Beth - I was thinking today that I should make some Christmas cards. I have some friends that are alone. I always send to my Mom and Rodger’s mom.
Kelly - As much as I would hate to see the snow, that must have been something to witness the three year olds amazement at the snow and waking up to Christmas.
Heather - DH and I have this problem frequently. I have learned though, that he usually has a good vision and I should be patient to see where it goes.
We have broken out paper and pens when needed too. It’s stopped a lot of grief.
I have a new project in my head, with lots of ideas swirling. I watched a YouTube video a couple of weeks ago with this woman that does thrifty crafts, and uses her scrap wood to make items.
We had two totes of scrap wood pieces, today I went through them and I found little triangles.
I have this as a concept, I just need to hone in on it. Hopefully tomorrow or Sunday.
I went out to the shop to cut a couple of pieces and DH comes out and points out a whole bunch of scrap wood I can get at.
Now I have even more ideas swirling.
I just need more hours in the day.
Today I helped my friend do some of her packing and arranging to get her house on the market. She plans on living in a camper, but she hasn’t bought the camper so doesn’t know what she’ll have for space. I think she’s keeping too much, but she’ll have to figure that out on her own.
It is past midnight, so I should head to bed.

Pet sitter came to meet the dogs. Joe seems comfortable having her in our home. Dogs barked at first but Tumble quickly accepted treats and pats. It took Shadow longer and she has a bigger scarier bark but sitter handled it well.
